West Virginia singer signs recording, publishing contract with music company

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Local singer Dawn Rix knew she had a deal on the horizon of some sort, but she wasn’t sure just what kind until she discovered her own good news on Facebook.

Rix recently signed a recording and publishing deal with Emanant Music.

“I saw it on social media,” she laughed. “That’s how I really found out it was a done deal. They posted it, ‘Congratulations, we just singed a recording contract and publishing deal. Welcome to Emanant Music.’ That’s how I found out what kind of offer it was. I had been speaking to them on the phone about it, but they posted it before it was really legit.”

The contract comes as the culminating moment for a lot of good that’s been coming Rix’s way in her music career.

Wednesday morning, she happily chatted over the phone from a car, on her way to the Inspirational Country Music Awards alongside her friends Billy Gaines and Amy McAllister, the group nominated in several categories.

“Just kind of, as I say, moving on up, trying to get to another level and get more exposure where my songs can reach a broader audience,” Rix said, turning the conversation back to the recent contract.

“It was cool for me, because I’ve always written, but I had never considered myself a songwriter so much as just a writer. Once COVID came along, I dug into really all of the music aspects, and the writing part, I did more of. Of course, it always helps when you surround yourself with successful people, and that has been a tremendous blessing, the fact I get to sing the song with Billy Gaines, the fact that the people I’ve been writing with and co-writing with are fabulous, and then, I have my very good friend, Amy, in my ear, telling me to keep positive energy. She is constantly inspiring me to keep going no matter what life throws at you.”
