In the first trailer for director Antoine Fuqua's upcoming crime-thriller, The Guilty, Jake Gyllenhaal is heard answering a chilling 911 call. The star-studded film hits Netflix on October 1st following a limited theatrical rollout and sees Riley Keough, Bill Burr, and Ethan Hawke headlining alongside Gyllenhaal. 2021's The Guilty is a remake of Den skyldige, which was released in Denmark in 2018. Directed by Gustav Möller, it was well-received by audiences, making the film apt for a Hollywood reprise. After acquiring, rights to the 2018 film, Fuqua's take on the story will likely follow along the same lines as its predecessor. Co-produced by Gyllenhaal, The Guilty will also see Möller returning to the story as executive producer.

His role in The Guilty isn't a complete 180 for the actor, who's no stranger to starring in offbeat thrillers; Gyllenhaal's role in the iconic indie classic Nightcrawler is often recognized as some of his best work. More recently, he starred in Dan Gilroy's horror drama, Velvet Buzzsaw.

The Guilty marks the second collaboration between Gyllenhaal and Fuqua. The pair worked together on the 2015 film Southpaw, a boxing drama starring Gyllenhaal as Billy "The Great" Hope. Throughout the past decade, Fuqua has established himself as a leading director across the action genre. Some of his best hits include 2013's Olympus Has Fallen and The Equalizer, all of which led to some insanely memorable movie moments. The Guilty has the chance to reaffirm Fuqua's place as a distinguished voice in Hollywood, and with an A-lister cast and script written by True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto, it mig
