F9's Vin Diesel & Helen Mirren Dance in the Rain in Sweet Photo

Helen Mirren shares a gorgeous picture of her and her Fast & Furious 9 co-star Vin Diesel dancing in the rain. Diesel and Mirren, as unlikely an onscreen pair as they may be, joined forces in this year's F9, the latest installment in the high-octane Fast & Furious franchise. Mirren reprised her recurring role of Queenie Shaw, mother to villains Deckard (Jason Statham) and Owen (Luke Evans). This time around was especially memorable for the iconic actress, because she got the chance to drive. Diesel, meanwhile, played Dominic Toretto for the eighth time.

F9 was originally slated to open in 2020, but amid the coronavirus pandemic, Universal delayed it to this year. It was one of the first major Hollywood blockbusters out of the gate this summer and helped bring some desperately needed life to the box office. At over $700 million worldwide, Fast & Furious 9 stands as the highest grossing Hollywood blockbuster of 2021. There are two more films planned for the main Fast & Furious franchise, with the tenth movie currently scheduled to arrive in 2023. For now, plot details are still being kept under wraps.

F9 brought a great deal of press about Mirren and Diesel's delightful chemistry, and the affection has continued to bleed into real life. Earlier this week, Mirren posted a picture of her recent reunion with Diesel at Venice's Dolce & Gabbana fashion show. "I danced in the rain with VIN DIESEL!" she wrote alongside the shot, which shows Diesel looking absolutely thrilled to have Mirren in his arms. Check it out down below.

The Fast & Furious franchise is full of surprises, and Mirren's cameo in 2017's The Fate of the Furious was definitely one of the biggest. Not many people expected an esteemed British actress like Mirren to appear in an action-packed series like this one, but her presence has been welcomed by fans and critics alike. Whether Mirren will get to appear in Fast & Furious 10 or 11 remains to be seen, but there's a good chance Diesel will find a way to get her involved. After all, Deckard Shaw is still around, so why can't his mother make another appearance?

For Diesel, the upcoming two-hander of Fast & Furious 10 and 11 is the end of an era. The franchise has grown to enormous heights over the years, with F9 even crossing that final threshold into space. It's anyone's guess as to where it will go next, but audiences must be excited to find out. Hopefully the conclusion to this long-running franchise will find a way to bring back fun familiar faces like Mirren's, if only so she and Diesel can partner up one more time.
