Vanessa Kirby’s Production Company Signs First Look Deal With Netflix

Vanessa Kirby is developing a production company that will partner with Netflix. The British actress is best known for playing Princess Margaret on the first two seasons of The Crown. The series aired on the same streaming platform where she has now signed a multi-year production deal.

Kirby’s company, the London-based Aluna Entertainment, announced its partnership with Netflix on Tuesday, THR confirmed. The streaming giant will be the home of a number of future projects that will aim to “explore the spectrum of the female experience.” Kirby’s own work for Netflix won her an Emmy nomination, receiving the honor for The Crown in 2018, as well as an Oscar nomination for her role in 2020’s Pieces of a Woman. She released a statement on behalf of Aluna, which can be read below:

“It has long been a dream of mine to produce and I have found the perfect partners in my friends at Netflix. They have been an inspiring creative home for me from The Crown to Pieces of a Woman and I am thrilled to be on this journey alongside them.”

Aluna will add a slate of British female talent to its team, including Lauren Dark, a senior executive at Film4. Dark has worked on a number of acclaimed projects, including Florian Zeller’s The Father and Rebecca Hall’s upcoming Passing. Kirby noted, “In Lauren I’ve found a true ally and we are united in our ambition to explore stories that relate to the uncharted female experience.”

Kirby is one of the most in-demand actors working today, having shown her range in both BAFTA-winning dramatic roles as well as appearances in Mission Impossible – Fallout and Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw. She is set to reprise her role as the White Widow in the next two Mission Impossible films, and is also set to co-star in the survival thriller, Suddenly, alongside Jake Gyllenhaal. Netflix subscribers can look forward to seeing if Aluna Entertainment’s films are as varied as the ones in which Kirby stars.
