Assassin's Creed Valhalla will be getting another title update on September 7, around two months after the previous update, 1.3.0. According to Ubisoft Montreal, update 1.3.1 will include a brand new difficulty level and more content for Assassin's Creed Valhalla's River Raids, a series of replayable missions designed to reward players with unique gear and treasure. Ubisoft has also hinted that protagonist Eivor may be receiving some new abilities in 1.3.1 along with new gear for players to use while exploring the British Isles.

Update 1.3.1 will be the first of two updates between the recent Siege of Paris DLC and a future free expansion titled Discovery Tour: Viking Age coming sometime later this year. Siege of Paris has successfully provided interesting content both in-game and in real life, as Assassin's Creed Valhalla fans recently visited the Saint-Denis Basilica in France and discovered a clue related to an ARG game based on the famous church. Update 1.3.2 will arrive before the Discovery Tour expansion, though little is known right now about what it will contain.

As for the specifics on update 1.3.1, Ubisoft Montreal has indicated that the new difficulty will be called "Nightmare." This challenge will likely test Assassin's Creed Valhalla players who have managed to get through the game on the current highest difficulty setting, Master Assassin. Players enjoying River Raids will have three new maps to choose from when the update drops, and these could potentially come with new River Raid keys and items to search for as Eivor ransacks settlements.

We can’t give everything away just yet, but the upcoming game update may or may not include:

🤫 Nightmare combat difficulty

Rounding out the list of teased features in update 1.3.1 are three new abilities for Eivor and an unspecified amount of new gear which will probably include a short sword. There may also be other additions in the update, but Ubisoft isn't confirming anything else at the moment and probably won't until the update drops in a few days. Overall, update 1.3.1 may add just enough to distinguish it from other recent Assassin's Creed Valhalla title updates.

So far player reactions to the update have been mixed. While there are always those gamers looking forward to more content for the game, others are eager for more specific changes. Popular requests are a New Game+ mode and traditional assassin's hood and cloak garb. The latter has been a frequent request of Assassin's Creed series fans who are eager to relive the stealth and subterfuge elements of earlier games like the Ezio trilogy and aren't as happy with the more RPG-heavy elements of entries like Odyssey and Valhalla.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
