One of THQ Nordic’s promises with Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning is the potential for a new DLC for the remastered game. Now, almost a decade after the original Kingdoms of Amalur’s release, developers are finally ready to offer a first look at the next chapter of the saga.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning’s Fatesworn DLC is in the final stage of production, according to the game’s official Twitter account. THQ isn’t ready to talk about the release date just yet, but the developers offered a small preview of a new in-game location.

The preview focuses on the small town of Gale’s Crossing. Once a prosperous trading post in the Eldrith Mountains, a series of wars and changes in the region’s economy have left Gale’s Crossing a shadow of its former glory. Nevertheless, the busted boom town still clings to life, serving as a vital stopover for travelers crossing the Eldrith Mountains. However, the path is becoming increasingly dangerous as nature slowly reclaims the roads and outlying encampments.

The teaser includes a screenshot of the town in question. A few buildings, several tents, and crumbling walls give the impression of a small town on the ropes. If nothing else, it seems like a likely place for players to begin their adventure in Re-Reckoning’s Fatesworn expansion. Still, the town’s problems hardly seem like main story material, though it will likely serve as an important hub area.

THQ Nordic acquired the Kingdoms of Amalur franchise in 2018, announcing Re-Reckoning and its Fatesworn expansion last year. THQ Nordic and developer Kaiko Games released Re-Reckoning last September to overall positive reviews. However, fans still know precious little about the upcoming DLC.

According to Fatesworn’s description on the Microsoft Store, the plot involves players dealing with the aftereffects of their character’s resurrection at the beginning of the game. Players will team up with returning character Agarth to investigate disruptions in the Weave of Fate that governs the lives of most residents of Amalur. The new DLC also reportedly adds more than five hours of new content. It is also free for anyone who purchased the Fate Edition of Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning.

Unfortunately, little else is known about the upcoming DLC. It’s not even entirely clear what the title Fatesworn refers to. Still, this first look at the expansion suggests fans don’t have long to wait before beginning their next new adventure in the open-world action RPG. Hopefully, it’s just the first of many further steps into the future of the resurrected Kingdoms of Amalur franchise.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. The Fatesworn expansion releases in 2021.
