Since the game's announcement back in 2019, Tango Gameworks has held its cards close to its chest regarding Ghostwire Tokyo, a supernatural action game slated to debut next year. While fans have seen some gameplay and gotten a glimpse at its world, today's PlayStation showcase provided their most significant look at the game yet, offering fresh gameplay and new story details.

The promo, which clocks in at just under two minutes long, is a fast-paced but detail-rich teaser for the game to come, confirming it'll launch next spring on PC and PlayStation 5. Much like the other trailers for the game, it showcases Ghostwire Tokyo's spirit-infested take on the titular Japanese city, although this time viewers get a little more information regarding why it's overrun by harrowing ghouls.

Storywise, the main takeaways from the clip are the confirmation of Ghostwire Tokyo's protagonist and villain, with the clash between both becoming the focal point of the trailer. The latter seems to be the masked character that appears across most of the game's key art, with the creepy figure appearing several times throughout the promo. Over on the PlayStation channel, the trailer's description provides a few extra details on the foe, describing them as a dangerous occultist called Hannya.

Meanwhile, the game's protagonist gets a short introduction, awakening in the title's nightmarish cityscape and finding themselves imbued with supernatural power. It seems they're trying to save someone from Hannya, with one section of the trailer seeing the protagonist call out to a girl in a hospital bed as the villain looms over her. Although little more is revealed about their mission in Ghostwire Tokyo, it seems the protagonist's abilities will allow the player to go toe-to-toe with the specters haunting Tokyo's streets, as the ensuing gameplay sees them blast enemies with psionic energy, use a yellow beam of light as a grappling hook, and fire projectiles from their hands.

There's no shortage of unsettling spirits to use these powers against either, with the footage highlighting a menacing rogues gallery of monsters to face off against. From faceless Slender-Man-esque creatures to towering, knife-wielding ghouls in raincoats and even a horrifying demon that charges at the player on all fours, it seems there's plenty of enemies lurking in Ghostwire Tokyo's shadowy streets.

The trailer makes it clear that Tango Gameworks is cooking up something unique with Ghostwire Tokyo, and players don't have too much longer to wait. In the meantime, they can take a look at the other PlayStation Showcase trailers, including Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Marvel's Wolverine, God of War: Ragnarok, and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake.

Ghostwire Tokyo is slated to launch next spring on PC and PlayStation 5.
