Bungie Disables Destiny 2's Problematic Telesto Fusion Rifle

Destiny 2 is one of the most massive shooter games out there, and the reason for this is how Bungie constantly adds content to it with new Seasons and big expansions, like the upcoming The Witch Queen. In fact, at one point, there was so much content in the game that Bungie felt the need to create the so-called "Destiny Content Vault," which was introduced with Beyond Light and serves the purpose of allowing the game to perform better and have less clutter. While this event sparked several debates about whether it was a good call, considering how many items and quests became unavailable due to their locations being removed, Destiny 2 is still far from being free from issues.

Among these issues, new ones are often discovered towards the start of a Season, where recently introduced mods may bear unforeseen consequences during obscure interactions between different guns and abilities. Then, among the old issues that have been around for a while, is the fact that an Exotic Fusion Rifle by the name of Telesto constantly and consistently breaks the game, to the point that it became a meme, and Destiny 2 players expect something to happen every Season.

The Destiny 2 community was not disappointed when, earlier, Bungie shared a tweet on its BungieHelp profile stating that Telesto had been disabled for all Gambit and Crucible activities due to a new issue. This is tied to the Thermoclastic Blooming seasonal mod introduced in Season of the Lost, and also to how the game registers Telesto's explosive projectiles as enemies even for the players generating them. What happened is that Trials of Osiris was re-released today, and some people were using the combination of Telesto and Thermoclastic Blooming to generate an infinite supply of Orbs of Power to dominate the enemies with Supers.

Thermoclastic Blooming makes it so that defeating a combatant - meaning, any enemy in Destiny 2 - with a Solar or Stasis melee creates an Orb of Power. Because Telesto's projectiles count as enemies, stacking plenty of them in one place and making them all explode at once with a melee ability causes them to erupt into a myriad of Orbs of Power for easy Super energy. Bungie immediately took action this time, disabling Telesto and also Thermoclastic Blooming for the time being, so as to not disrupt the experience for players in Trials of Osiris and other activities.

Destiny 2 players share lots of misconceptions about the game and how they approach it, and it is also true that Bungie often creates weird and obscure interactions that are not clearly visible at first. As such, this new glitch is but the tip of the iceberg for all the times Telesto broke the game in the past, but it poses the question as to why its projectiles count as enemies.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
