Schitt's Creek creator and star, Dan Levy, has signed a new deal with Netflix, starting with a romantic comedy that he will star in and direct. Dan Levy, who is the son of iconic comedic actor Eugene Levy, has been making the most of his time in the spotlight. In addition to his Schitt's Creek role as David Rose, he dominated the Christmas season two years running, appearing in The Kacey Musgraves Christmas Show in 2019 and the Clea DuVall rom-com, Happiest Season, in 2020. There are even rumors Dan Levy will be appearing in Ant-Man 3 after photos surfaced of him with Paul Rudd in London.

Dan Levy already has a strong relationship with Netflix. Although his sitcom Schitt's Creek, about a wealthy family that loses everything and is forced to endure life in a charming small town, was not created by Netflix, they were instrumental in its ultimate popularity. The show became more or less an instant sensation after it dropped on the streaming platform, and Levy went on to further his relationship with them by appearing in the voice cast of the Netflix animated series, Q-Force, which premiered earlier this month.

Now Netflix has announced they've inked a new deal with Dan Levy for the creation of original content in both film and TV. The first project he will be working on is an untitled romantic comedy, which will be his feature film directorial debut (he cut his teeth directing several episodes of Schitt's Creek). He will also star in the project, which is being produced by Stacey Snider (Under the Dome) and Kate Fenske (Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce).

After the film, which he will also write and produce, Levy will begin to develop projects for the television arena in July 2022. Dan Levy's mission with Netflix is to tell "specific, meaningful stories." Although no plot or casting details have been confirmed for the film, it is likely that he will continue to tell stories featuring LGBTQ+ characters, continuing off from his work on the groundbreaking Schitt's Creek.

Netflix's new deal with Dan Levy could also potentially lead to the Schitt's Creek movie fans have been craving, now that he's in more of a position to negotiate rights management between Netflix and the original production company. However, if that even has a chance of happening, it will likely still be years before audiences get to see it. Whatever he makes, hopefully it will have the same comedic and creative spark that made Schitt's Creek such an electrifying sitcom that appealed to so many viewers across the globe.
