Minecraft Player Shows Off A Gorgeous Dark Void-Themed Bridge

In Minecraft's creative mode, a skilled player has created a Gothic bridge over an amethyst void, and the effect is impressive when seen in action. With Minecraft's Caves & Cliffs Part II update coming sometime in the year, players are seeking out new and inventive ways to utilize what they already have access to. The first half of the update released new items and mobs, but many of them can be difficult to find in the randomly generated worlds. The second half of the update will rework the world seed generation and introduce brand new biomes.

By building first on smaller scales, Minecraft builders innovate their techniques for larger, more complex builds further down the line. It isn't as often that players show off these smaller scale tests prior to creating the final masterpiece for the internet to see, but from time to time creators seek out feedback from other players first. Medieval castles, roller-coasters, scenes from blockbuster films, real-life locations that shatter the fourth wall, fully-functioning Redstone calculators - the sky remains the limit in Minecraft.

Today's build was showcased by XxChawskixX in a short clip on Reddit's Minecraft subreddit. The player first hovered around the gothic bridge and then lands before walking up close to showcase the amethyst-hued void. In a comment, XxChawskixX explained that "alternating glass blocks with air gaps creates a fading effect that can make for some pretty cool builds," likely in response to the many commenters asking how they pulled the effect. XxChawskixX added that this build was only the beginning, a test of sorts as they experiment prior to creating a much larger-scale bridge-and-void combo.

This void effect could add an otherworldly air to players' fantasy builds, or even as an alternate take to real-world location Minecraft builds. A few players suggest a texture pack like Optifine could increase the void's fading effect, which makes it seem as though an endless, purple abyss exists beneath the bridge. This is likely a nod to some combination of the End and the Nether, as there is nothing but darkness below the moon-cheese of the End Dragon's home and another void of purple when looking into the Nether portal. For those seeking voids of different hues, the poster says to look no further than glass alternating about gaps of air. That means this effect could easily be replicated with all glass variations within the game, and XxChawskixX added that using green glass could look "like a toxic gas."

This is only the prototype, so what may come later will likely be even more unique in appearance. Whether XxChawskixX sticks with purple or swaps for another color is purely speculative, but it would be interesting to see the same effect in a combination of colors. Glass has been used in some prominently of the game's most stand-out builds (with a recent example being a giant Minecraft ocean base), and there's no telling how far builders will take this technique in the future.
