Titanfall 3 Fans Shouldn't Get Their Hopes Up, Says Respawn

A Respawn dev has confirmed that Titanfall 3 is not happening, despite the many rumors and wishes of fans. Both of the Titanfall titles were critically acclaimed, but unfortunately, EA and developer Respawn never officially pursued Titanfall 3. Respawn has since shifted focus to VR titles, Apex Legends, and Star Wars games, meaning Titanfall as a proper series is essentially on the backburner.

Last year, a rumor began circulating that Titanfall 3 was in development at Respawn, but nothing has really come of it. Multiple sources corroborated this rumor on Twitter, but they all deleted their tweets. There's no telling why they deleted their tweets, as maybe they were told by Respawn, EA, or an internal source to remove the posts or they got conflicting information that caused doubt in their reporting. Either way, people got hyped up yet again after the recent GeForce Now leak, which saw a list of unannounced games surface online. Among the many titles was Titanfall 3, though a developer says fans should temper expectations.

During a live stream (via Dexerto), Respawn community coordinator Jason Garza told a fan that there are currently no plans for Titanfall 3. This isn't the first time Respawn has said that Titanfall 3 isn't in development, but some time has passed since the last denial. There's no word as to what Respawn is up to right now, but it seems like the developer has its hands full and any chance at a proper sequel will probably have to wait a while.

“Don’t get your hopes up, man. I’ve said this before. We don’t have anything in [the] works. There’s nothing. There’s nothing there. We’ve got too many other games in the works right now.”

Although this denial isn't the first time Respawn has shattered Titanfall 3 hopes, it's still a disappointment. Titanfall 2 is one of the most acclaimed first-person shooters of the last generation, both for its fun multiplayer, but also its incredibly inventive campaign that offered a much-needed shake-up to the FPS genre. The success of Apex Legends has probably prevented Titanfall 3 from happening, but at the very least, Respawn seems committed to making more single-player games.

With Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order being a huge hit, it seems likely the series will continue in some way. EA probably could've turned Respawn into a studio exclusively focused on Apex Legends, but the publisher seems to value the company as a true AAA game developer. It likely won't be too long until Respawn reveals its next game since Fallen Order was released in 2019, but there's no indication as to what's next for the team, save that it probably won't be Titanfall 3.
