The Rock Confirms He’s Wrapped On DC League of Super-Pets With BTS Video

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson announces he’s wrapped voice-over sessions on the upcoming DC Extended Universe film, DC League of Super-Pets. While eyes are on Matt Reeves’ The Batman, the multiversal Flash movie, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, and Johnson’s long-awaited debut as Black Adam, Johnson will also voice Superman’s dog, Krypto, in DC League of Super-Pets slated for a release on May 20, 2022. As its title implies, the animated film will focus on the pets of famous DC superheroes. In addition to Johnson, its star-studded cast includes Marc Maron as Lex Luthor, Kevin Hart as Ace the Bat-Hound, Keanu Reeves, John Krasinski, Vanessa Bayer, Kate McKinnon, Natasha Lyonne, and Diego Luna.

Directors Jared Stern (also writer) and Sam Levine’s DC League of Super-Pets is based on the DC Comics title, Legion of Super-Pets, which originally appeared in Adventure Comics #293 in February 1962. Team members in the source material include Krypto, Beppo, Comet the Super-Horse, Proty, and Streaky the Squirrel. That being said, aside from Johnson’s Krypto, Hart’s Ace, and Maron’s Lex Luthor, no other characters in the film have been confirmed. Facilitated by its animated nature, plot details have been kept under wraps and have stayed that way—all that’s been said is that its storyline will be a “charming” one.

Johnson recently took to Instagram to announce a wrap on his voice-over sessions for the Seven Bucks Productions-produced DC League of Super-Pets. In the behind-the-scenes video, Johnson lists some of the other super-pets who will appear in the film, including Flash’s turtle, Green Lantern’s squirrel, and Wonder Woman’s pig before, again, hyping how Black Adam will change the hierarchy of power in the DCEU. It’s worth mentioning that the film’s official synopsis mentions Krypto teaming up with a flying cat, so Streaky the Supercat (Supergirl’s pet feline) will presumably appear as well. Both DC League of Super-Pets and Black Adam—which wrapped filming back in July of this year—will release next summer. After being attached to the anti-hero Teth-Adam/Black Adam for almost a decade, Johnson will finally appear in an origin film set to premiere on July 20, 2022. Black Adam will also star Pierce Brosnan, Aldis Hodge, Noah Centineo, and Quintessa Swindell as members of the Justice Society of America.

While DC League of Super-Pets is geared towards younger audiences, Black Adam is said to put its titular character’s brutality on display. Jaume Collet-Serra has compared Johnson’s Black Adam performance to Clint Eastwood in Dirty Harry. Ironically, reports point to Johnson's desire to see his DC anti-hero go toe-to-toe with Henry Cavill’s Superman, and now he’s set to play the Man of Steel/Super Boy’s dog. It’s not a stretch to say that Johnson’s foray into the DCEU will have as big an impact as James Gunn’s ala The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker; spearheading a new chapter for Warner Bros./DC Film’s universe. Hopefully, fans will get actual trailers for DC League of Super-Pets and Black Adam within the next couple of months.
