Star Wars creator, George Lucas, joins Hasbro's The Black Series line of 6-inch action figures, as part of their Lucasfilm 50th Anniversary range. The range celebrates 50 years of Lucasfilm by releasing products based on the company's large catalog of products, such as vintage style re-releases and items based on the Expanded Universe comics. Hasbro extended its pact with Disney to create merchandise based on the franchise in February 2020.

Hasbro's Star Wars: The Black Series line launched in 2013, beginning with a wave featuring Luke Skywalker in Rebel Pilot uniform, Darth Maul, R2-D2, and an Imperial Sandtrooper. Since its debut, the line has gone on to cover all corners of the Star Wars universe, from the recent film releases, video games, and series such as The Mandalorian. Hasbro's latest wave has featured a mixed selection from across the franchise, including Clone Force 99's Tech as seen in The Bad Batch. Now, the man who started the saga has joined the line.

As revealed by StarWars.com, series creator George Lucas will join The Black Series line as part of their 50th Anniversary range. The figure features Lucas' likeness, with the director clad in white Imperial Stormtrooper armor wielding a blaster and holding a helmet. The figure comes on a vintage-styled card back inspired by the packaging for Kenner's original Star Wars line, which was released alongside the original trilogy before the company was purchased by Hasbro. Hasbro's Senior director of product design, Vickie Stratford, stated, "This figure is just one of the many ways we can honor his legacy for years to come and we hope fans cherish it as much as we did!" The action figure will be available on Amazon in 2022, with pre-orders opening on September 29th at 1 PM ET. Check out more images below:

Lucas' figure comes following the announcement of a Trapper Wolf action figure, the New Republic pilot which long-time Lucasfilm member and creative, Dave Filoni, played in his The Mandalorian cameo. Filoni first began his work on the franchise alongside Lucas when he was hired to help develop Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and has since worked on series such as Star Wars Rebels and The Mandalorian. This isn't the first George Lucas action figure produced, with Hasbro having previously released 3.75-inch action figures based upon Chairman Papanoida, George Lucas's cameo in Revenge of the Sith, as well Lucas dressed as a Rebel Pilot and Stormtrooper.

Though some may feel it is a strange addition to Hasbro's Star Wars lines, it can also be seen as a nice way to pay respect and celebrate the director's impact. The company previously released a Marvel Legends figure of Stan Lee, complete with a Captain America shield bearing the comic legend's signature. As part of Lucasfilm's 50th-anniversary celebrations, it is a fun, if not unique piece of merchandise for fans to place alongside their collections as a tribute to the man who created the universe.
