George Lazenby, the second actor to portray Ian Fleming’s James Bond after Sean Connery, has reacted to the latest installment in the super-spy franchise, No Time to Die. With just a matter of days to go before the film’s official release, fans are more excited than ever to see what will be Daniel Craig’s final outing as 007. The film has faced a lengthy list of setbacks and delays, but at long last, the finished product is ready to be revealed.

Though Lazenby’s Bond was widely discussed and even controversial when he first arrived in 1969’s On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, it’s hard to recall a more talked about Bond film than No Time to Die. This is likely due to the fact that it’s Craig’s last, but also because its release was consistently delayed as a result of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. Add to that all the persistent rumors and demands with regard to who should be next to play Bond, and hectic doesn’t even begin to describe everything that No Time to Die has been through so far. The bright side of all this chaos and confusion, however, is that the film found a solid director in Cary Joji Fukunaga, and Craig’s insistence back in 2019 that Fleabag and Killing Eve creator, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, rework the script has been rumored to have helped create a Bond film that truly sets the franchise off in a new direction.

While the majority of the world waits for the eventual release of No Time to Die, some people have been fortunate enough to get an early look at the film's world premiere. Lazenby happens to be one such person, and not only has the former Bond seen the film, but special arrangements were even made in order for him to attend a screening in Los Angeles. Although it’s tough to get an absolute verdict from Lazenby’s statement and photo via his official Twitter account, Bond fans will certainly appreciate hearing from the man who tried his best to fill Connery’s shoes. Check out Lazenby's statement below:

It’s likely that not many Bond fans would have expected Lazenby’s reaction to first and foremost mention the film’s music. What’s more, it’s unclear whether he was referring specifically to Billie Eilish’s title track or the film’s soundtrack in general when he stated that No Time to Die offered “interesting choices of music.” After so much reconfiguring and stress in getting the film off the ground, the fact that Lazenby’s sole comment was in regard to the musical choices almost seems intentional – as if the 82-year-old wished to comment but was prevented from doing so by a legal embargo. This could very well be the case, or Lazenby might simply be more focused on the music of Bond than anything else – after all, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service arguably still has the best soundtrack of all the Bond films.

The conflicting opinions regarding OHMSS have persisted for decades and some couldn’t care less what Lazenby has to say about No Time to Die. OHMSS is a favorite of Fukunaga, however, making Lazenby’s opinion of definite value to the director. Surely, when No Time to Die does get its wide release, the last thing that audiences and critics will be talking about is the film’s soundtrack. Ideally, the biggest topic of conversation then, is how the film holds up after such a prolonged and chaotic wait
