Rami Malek jokes that his Bond villain in No Time To Die is scarred due to allergies. In the latest film, which will be Daniel Craig's final outing as James Bond, Malek plays the leading antagonist Lyutsifer Safin. No Time To Die marks the 25th addition to the iconic Bond franchise and is set to debut in US cinemas on Friday, October 8.

The film is directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga, who is the first American to helm a James Bond film. Joining him in the project is an impressive ensemble, with returning cast members Ralph Fiennes, Léa Seydoux, Ben Whishaw, Jeffrey Wright, Christoph Waltz, Naomi Harris, and Rory Kinnear. New additions include the upcoming 007-star Lashana Lynch, as well as Ana de Armas, Billy Magnussen, and David Dencik. Bond's latest mission finds the spy pulled from retirement with Madeline Swan (Seydoux) to rescue a kidnapped scientist, which quickly finds him on the tail of a mysterious new villain with access to a dangerous technology.

Now, in a recent appearance on the Graham Norton Show, Malek teased fans over the reason behind his character's facial scarring. Pointing out that many former Bond villains have boasted some unique facial characteristics over the years, Norton quizzed Malek on what might have caused his own baddie's scarring. "There's a major plot point about the way he looks," supplied Craig, coming to his co-star's rescue. Norton jokingly asked if the character was allergic to deodorant before Malek agreed, "He's got allergies!" Check out the funny exchange below:

The origins of Malek's new Bond villain have remained a well-hidden secret, despite the long wait for the film's release. No Time To Die was plagued by release delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic and was initially scheduled to arrive in November of 2019. After repeatedly being pushed back, the final release date was at last set in stone at the beginning of 2021 and will now debut on October 8. The fact that Malek's character Safin has successfully retained his shroud of mystery through this time is impressive.

Having already premiered in the UK, reviews for the newest film have steadily begun pouring in and the initial assessment suggests that US cinemagoers are in for a treat this week. After playing the titular spy for over a decade, this final installment will no doubt come as a bittersweet end to this chapter in Craig's acting career. No Time To Die promises to be a worthy final hurrah for Craig and a fitting entry to Malek's increasingly glowing film repertoire. Though minds inevitably drift to the next iteration of the British spy, audiences should take the time to relish this last performance by Craig, especially since producer Barbara Broccoli claims Bond replacement talks won't be discussed until 2022.
