As Pokemon GO continues to expand and iterate on itself, becoming much more than it was on launch, players have encountered a wide variety of interesting PokeStops around the world. Now, a group of Pokemon GO fans is sharing the weirdest, most unexpected, and funniest PokeStops they've encountered on their mobile Pokemon journeys.

PokeStops are placed on top of notable real-life locations, allowing players to gather resources and confront the antagonistic Team GO Rocket. Cities often have plenty of PokeStops, but Pokemon GO players in smaller communities may have trouble finding PokeStops. However, both types of environments appear to have their fair share of unusual and downright odd PokeStops.

Reddit user StrideeFPS started the discussion by sharing a screenshot of a gift they picked up at the Spongebob Squarepants Mailbox PokeStop located in New York and asking other players about the weirdest PokeStop they'd encountered. With October begun and Pokemon GO's Halloween events approaching, many of the responses appear to be seasonal, including a list of players who all reported frequenting PokeStops attached to statues of Jesus located in graveyards. Others stated they often visited PokeStop attached to memorials, with one even commenting that sending gifts from those PokeStops felt like sending out headstones.

One German player claimed that in their city, every second PokeStop is part of a memorial to people killed in concentration camps, which may add a different kind of morbid flavor to playing Pokemon GO this October. Another user stated that their hometown has a PokeStop on a funeral home, while a second reported a PokeStop set on a building owned by a Christian family that printed "HAPPINESS IS SUBMISSION TO GOD" on the side of their house. Apparently, the image of the PokeStop in question is a shot of the wall, but altered to read "HAPPINESS IS SUBMISSION TO GODZILLA."

Another player brought up a PokeStop in North Dakota at Theodore Roosevelt National Park called "Is that bison poop," with a description that reportedly read "Yes it is." A user from the UK reported a playground device that looks like a bouncy squid head dubbed Boing Cthulhu on the app, which may encourage fans to wonder if Team GO Rocket members would appear there as cultists. Another German player claimed to have found a PokeStop in the country's North Korean embassy in Berlin. One user event reported a PokeStop placed on top of a plaque in Columbus, Ohio, that was set up to commemorate absolutely nothing happening at that site.

Pokemon GO is available right now for Android and iOS devices.
