Elden Ring Offering a Few Features to Make Game Easier

There has been a niche trend in the industry for a while to make some video games as soul-crushingly difficult as possible, which has carried into today's video games, like Dark Souls and the upcoming Elden Ring. FromSoftware, the studio behind the game, has a reputation for making some challenging titles, so many fans expect extreme difficulty in Elden Rings.

Today, gamers are in luck since it seems that the studio will add features to make the game more accessible. During yesterday's Famitsu x Denegeki TGS 2021 stream, which has been translated by workers at DualShockers, a member of FromSoftware named Yasuhiro Kitao described how the company plans to make the game more accessible to everyone.

During the stream, Kitao explained that features such as different maps and the ghost horse are implemented into the game to assist in combat and instructing the players which objective to go after next. On top of that, FromSoftware has copied different elements from its previous titles into Elden Ring to give players extra options to approach combat, all while throwing in some new gameplay elements as well.

Additional features from previous titles include a backstabbing mechanic from Demon Souls which can be used to one-hit kill enemies. The backstab is helpful for gamers who want to avoid a brutal frontal assault on a dungeon. Not only that, but gamers can utilize a stealth mode in Elden Rings like in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice to quietly take care of enemies or summon allies to help players in battle. And if the current dungeon is still too hard for fans, then they have the option to go back to a previous dungeon to level up and try again.

One of the new features the studio is trying out is a more expansive open-world map that gamers can explore. This instance is when the Ghost Horse comes in handy, which is excellent for traversing long distances and can help in the battle against foes in the wild. Kitao explains that while these systems are made to help the player, the overall experience is still not going to make for an easy game. FromSoftware makes its games difficult to give fans a sense of accomplishment when defeating a demanding boss or discovering something new.

Kitao ends his segment by thanking fans for bearing with FromSoftware for the lack of Elden Ring news these past two years. However, he reassures the fans that game development has gone incredibly well, and the studio is working hard to meet their expectations for its next title.

Elden Ring releases on January 21, 2022 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
