"Mother and Son" by Alexander Sokurov, a must see in my opinion.

Tony Manero (2008) by Pablo Larrain

An unusual angle on Chile's Pinochet dictatorship - the repressive police-state is shown as a social atomisation which makes it paradoxically straightforward for a murderous psychopath to go about his criminal business. The film, however, takes things a step further into offbeat territory by having the killer - a withdrawn, taciturn, fiftyish misanthrope - obsessed with the film Saturday Night Fever and its main character Tony Manero, to the extent of entering a TV contest showcasing Manero impersonators. The result is an unlikely but unsettling combination of moods and tones, which narrowly overcomes the gimmicky implausibility of its central conceits.

You like Larraín? Have you seen "No"? It's a great film, you should definitely look it up.

"El niño y el muro" an old but incredibly mexican movie about the Wall of Berlin. If anyone understand the spanish, I really recommend it.

Do you know who the director is?

Great topic, going to watch many of those (some are quite well known), especially thx to SklogW.

A movie that has a great Quality/Famle ratio is Der freie Wille (The Free Will).

La maman et la putain (The mother and the whore) is a freaking classic but isn't even sold in any shape or form.

Pour un oui ou pour un non .. I'm afraid there's no subtitles for this one, maybe I'll finish them someday.

Also : Kin-dza-dza !

Russian movie ?

Russian movie from the communist era ?

Russian humour/SF movie from the communist era done on a tight budget.

It's proper science fiction (Star Wars isn't SF, for pointers).

It hardly gets aliener than that, while still being great.

And dog oh dog there's a follow-up coming in april, by the same director, about 17 years after the original !

I don't know if it's famous but a great movie in my opinion is "uncle boonmee who can recall his past lives", from Thailand. Nice movie.
