Recently we have experienced two issues with our host.

The first was a total hard drive failure on our main web-server. This resulted in loss of site data since the last backup, meaning we had to roll-back just a few hours of activity. We had previously understood our hosts were implementing RAID, meaning an event such as this should never have occurred. However that turned out not to be the case, and so it was fortunate that we kept a continuous backup system in place.

The second which we have just now recovered from seems to be eluding even the 'experts' at our data center (Carat Networks). On the same node as the one that previously had the hard drive failure, last night it was discovered the node had powered off and would not boot up again. This of course resulted in the entire site being unavailable for several hours today.

All around this week we have come to the conclusion that the incompetence of our hosts is rather unacceptable, hence we are migrating to a cloud-based platform with multiple redundancy so as to prevent anything like what has happened this week from happening again. Work has already begun in this direction and we hope to migrate to the new infrastructure by the end of February.

We'd like to apologize for any inconvenience site unavailability has caused you this week, but rest assured best efforts are being made already and shortly we'll be running a rock-solid setup that will even survive nuclear blasts and metal-eating nano bots. Okay maybe not those, but at least any further incompetence on behalf of future hosts we choose from. Bye bye Carat.

Watch this space for future updates on this matter!
