Oculus VR, the company behind the Oculus Rift virtual reality (VR) headset, has revealed the reasoning for temporarily closing its online developer centre earlier this week. The outfit issued an email to members explaining that it had discovered a ‘vulnerability’ that could have allowed for a harmful SQL injection into the site’s code. As a result, the company quickly took down the Oculus Developer Centre and now requires all users to change their passwords upon next log-in.
OculusDK2_1The company has reassured that there is no reason to worry about the security of users information. Taking the centre down was simply a precautionary measure, as is the password change.
“Please know that no credit card or address information is stored in the Developer Center database, and we don’t have any reason to believe that any personal or confidential information was taken before we discovered the issue,” the email read.
Last weekend users couldn’t access the Developer Centre section of the official Oculus VR website, which included the Oculus Share Beta where users can download new VR experiences for the Oculus Rift. VRFocus will continue to follow Oculus VR and report back with any other news.
