Nile Rodgers To Be Honored With IMS Legends Award

Nile Rodgers will next month receive the International Music Summit’s top honor – the Legends Award.

The multi-Grammy winning disco pioneer will be feted at the IMS Legends Dinner, to be held May 21 at the Sessions restaurant within Ibiza’s Hard Rock Hotel.

Rodgers will need to find room in his heaving trophy cabinet. The guitarist collected a hattrick of Grammys earlier this year for his work on Daft Punk's “Random Access Memories.”

IMS partner Ben Turner comments: “Our love affair with Nile goes on and we are delighted he will be accepting our IMS Legends Award at the now annual industry dinner. This event is becoming a major event on the electronic calendar and in the year that Nile took the top Grammy Awards with Daft Punk, this just feels like an extension of the incredible momentum year he and electronic music is having.”

Rodgers follows Pete Tong, Carl Cox and Fatboy Slim as the fourth recipient of the IMS honor.

The Chic co-founder’s contribution to dance music is so great, the summit has “unofficially committed to bringing Nile to IMS every single year going forward as he brings energy, vision, history, humor and love to the Summit setting,” Turner notes.

At last year’s IMS, Rodgers recorded and donated the event’s “Anthem” for charity (the track was remixed by Eats Everything). Earlier, he was appointed a founding ambassador to the Association For Electronic Music.

odgers recently gave Billboard an update on the upcoming Chic album, which will feature superstar collaborations from the likes of David Guetta and Avicii.

The Ibiza summit, now in its seventh year, takes place May 21-23.
