Katy Perry - Roar

Katy Perry has a message for schools: make "Roar" happen.
The pop superstar teamed up with Staples recently for a twist on the back-to-school ad campaign to raise awareness for under-funded classrooms and encourage school-supplies donations nationwide. Staples is also a presenting sponsors of the North American leg of her Prismatic Tour, and has pledged a $1 million donation to DonorsChoose.org, a charity that has helped fund more than 450,000 classroom projects for teachers and made an impact on more than 11 million students. In a new public-service ad that debuted Thursday (July 24), Perry appears on a concert stage surrounded by instruments that begin to disappear. "Imagine going onstage without any guitars, or keyboards, drums, or a microphone," Perry says, "and being expected to ‘Roar.’ Tough, right? It’s the same with our teachers, who are using their own money so students can learn."

A recent survey conducted by Staples found that most teachers spend an average of $408.71 of their own money to provide supplies and materials for their classrooms. In its first two months, the "Make Roar Happen" campaign has funded 287 classroom projects, benefitting 23,679 students heading into the new school year. The Perry PSA will encourage more involvement in the cause to support teachers’ DonorsChoose.org projects and raise additional funds beyond Staples’ $1 million commitment.
