Lucifer's Unaired Season 3 Episodes Will Make Their Way To Fans Soon

Recommended Posts

Lucifer fans have had a rough month thanks to the cancellation of the show on Fox and the subsequent #RenewLucifer campaign on social media not (at this point) resulting in news of a renewal or rescue a la Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Now, Fox finally has some good news for fans: the Devil will have one more day on the network. The two unaired episodes of Lucifer will air as a two-hour event in primetime later this month. Here's what you need to know.

The two-hour primetime events will air on Monday, May 28 starting at 8 p.m. ET on Fox. It will debut two weeks after the Season 3 finale that turned out to be the series finale following Fox's decision to cancel the series back on May 11. Although Fox is billing this as one big bonus episode, it will actually be comprised of two standalone episodes that were filmed earlier this year, with the intention that they would air at some point during Season 4. With Season 4 now not happening, there were two spare episodes that weren't going anywhere. Fortunately for viewers who want a bit more Lucifer before it's gone for good, those two episodes will see the light of day.

The first of the two episodes is called "Boo Normal," according to TVLine. Lucifer and Co. are on the cast of a murdered child psychologist, and the investigation coincides with Ella's ruminations on a childhood secret that she's worked to hide for many years. Charlyne Yi will guest-star was Ray-Ray/Azreal. "Boo Normal" sounds like winner of an episode for fans who were hoping for more Ella.

The second episode sounds like it will put a lot of the focus back on Lucifer himself. Called "Once Upon a Time" -- and almost certainly like the other Once Upon a Time recently on the airwaves -- the episode will see Lucifer's mom constructing an alternate dimension that puts her son in some very bizarre circumstances. In this alternate dimension, he is granted a freedom never entirely available to him before: choice. He also never met Chloe in this dimension, so things should be quite different. Kevin Alejandro, who plays Dan Espinoza on the show, directed "Once Upon a Time." The episode has cast a pretty fabulous person to play the role of God: Neil Gaiman himself will tackle the role.

Since these two episodes were designed as standalones to air in a fourth season, fans shouldn't expect either of them to pay off on the frustrating series finale cliffhanger. That said, perhaps these two episodes could result in an intense enough fan reaction that motivates Fox or another outlet to pick the series back up. Lucifer star Tom Ellis hasn't given up, and the ratings for the two-hour event could be some of the best the show has ever seen. Could these leftover episodes be the key to getting the show back in production?

We'll have to wait and see. You can watch the last two existing episodes of Luciferon May 28 at 8 p.m. ET on Fox. For more viewing options now and in the not-too-distant future, swing by our summer TV premiere guide.
