Peter Jackson debunks rumors that he may direct a DC movie, saying he's never read a comic. One of the early mantras for Warner Bros. and their DC Universe was that they would be director driven movies. That model has so far brought Zack Snyder, David Ayer, Patty Jenkins, and partially Joss Whedon movies to the big screen since 2013 and they have the likes of James Wan, David F. Sandberg, Jenkins again, and more lined up for the future. They even somehow managed to get Steven Spielberg attached to a project.

The studio is clearly going after a mixture of names both big and on the rise, but there's been rumors that several other major directors could join their team soon. One of these potential directors was rumored to be Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson. Projects such as Green Lantern Corps or Justice League Dark seemed like perfect fits, but neither will ever happen.

French outlet Allocine asked Jackson about the rumors that he's possibly going to direct a DC movie. While fans may have been excited to see Jackson take on a major comic book property, Jackson isn't interested at all. He says he's never even read a comic before and has had no discussions about directing a big screen adaptation of one. Here's his quote translated from French.

That’s not true. I had no discussions about that. I’m not a fan of comics, I’ve never read any, so I’m not particularly interested in adapting one for cinema. That’s not true at all.

Jackson would've been an incredible get for Warner Bros. and DC, but he's clearly not interested in doing such a project. He is currently busy helping bring Mortal Engines to the big screen after all and isn't even going to do Amazon's Lord of the Rings series either. It appears Jackson is more interested in doing a variety of other projects at this point instead of diving back into major pre-established franchises.

However, just because Jackson isn't interested right now or hasn't met about such a film at this time doesn't mean it won't ever happen. All it could take is the perfect pitch and pairing to get Jackson interested in this genre. That said, if Jackson truly isn't interested in comic books at this point, he may never be and that's okay. There's no shortage of directors both established and new that can take on any project WB and DC could throw Jackson's way. Walter Hamada has hired people like Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley for The Flash and Cathy Yan for Birds of Prey so far, so maybe he's got equally promising and exciting choices lined up for the projects fans currently think Jackson would be perfect for.
