Although Marvel has not yet announced plans for Ant-Man 3, Scott Long actor, Paul Rudd, has a few ideas of where the story can take his character next. With the release of Ant-Man & The Wasp just around the corner, it makes sense that Marvel fans are already thinking ahead to what comes next in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for those characters.

Ant-Man & The Wasp takes place after Captain America: Civil War, setting it just before the happenings of Avengers: Infinity War, from which Ant-Man was noticeably absent. The movie will see Rudd's character dealing with balancing life as a superhero and life as a father. However, Lang decides to join Hope van Dyne, aka Wasp (Evangeline Lilly), and her father, Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), when the two come to him for help with an urgent mission that will have the team going up against a mysterious villain known as Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen).

In an exclusive interview with us, Rudd talks about his hopes for Ant-Man beyond this movie and into a sequel, if Marvel decides to continue forward with the franchise. At first, he seemed hesitant to speak about a movie that may or may not happen:

"I don't know. I've had some thoughts. You know, if they were, I have no idea whether or not if they'll do anything else with this. I really don't. Marvel's very good at keeping their cards close to their chest, not just with the public. But I've thought about things, like if we ever did another one what could it be? And I've had some thoughts, but I hesitate to say what they are in case we do wind up going in that direction and some of those things that Scott is dealing with are things that I'm thinking of now."

But then he opened up about what he feels could serve as an important plot point for Ant-Man 3: Scott's relationship with his daughter, Cassie, and her future as a potential superhero. In Marvel Comics, Cassie goes on to become Stature. So will the Langs and Pyms turn into an Incredibles type of superhero family? Rudd said:

"That's an interesting thing. I don't know. One of the things I think does separate this is this whole thing about family, and parents, and kids, and certainly my relationship with Cassie is a huge component of it. But it's also a father-daughter relationship with Hope and Hank and this, it does seem like it's their family business. I don't know. That's a good idea, yeah."

One thing is for certain: Ant-Man & The Wasp will offer a lot of thrills for fans of Marvel comics. Not only will it feature a good look at a rescue attempt of Hope's mother, Janet van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer), but it will also shed some light on the mysterious quantum realm where she is currently trapped, which may offer an important plot point for the upcoming Avengers 4. The film will also highlight the big differences between Ant-Man and the Wasp as superheroes.

As another entry into the MCU, Ant-Man & The Wasp will certainly prove popular enough for a third movie focusing on these characters, but the only question remaining is if Marvel wants to include that sequel in Phase 4 of the MCU. Fans will have to wait to find out, since Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige said they won't reveal their Phase 4 plans until after Avengers 4.
