SYDNEY’S most paw-fect pooches will gather this weekend for what has been aptly dubbed the “Common-Woof Games”.

The fifth annual Dog Lovers Show at Moore Park will this year include a selection of sporting competitions including canine versions of soccer, basketball, discus and javelin.

There is also the more traditional Australian Working Dog Rescue International sheepdog speed trials.

Amid the fun and games, the show is all about promoting responsible dog ownership and the importance of dog adoption.

More than 40 rescue shelters from across NSW will help unite visitors with their new fur babies.

Dog Lovers Show founder and CEO Jason Humphris said the event was committed to raising awareness about dog adoption.

“Since 2013, the Dog Lovers Adoption Zone has helped to find homes for over 3000 pooches in need around Australia,” he said.

“It’s one of the best days out in Sydney and a valuable event for anyone looking to find the right dog.”

Australian Working Dog Rescue International gives rescue dogs another chance at a loving life, ambassador Lauren Vickers said.

“We like to talk to the public about how dog rescue works and welcome everyone to give our dogs a pat and a cuddle, learn how to approach both owners and dogs and learn how to get involved,” Ms Vickers said.

The plethora of pooches will share the spotlight with a number of TV stars including Dr Katrina Warren, Dr Chris Brown, Farmer David Graham, actor Andrew Morley and Gogglebox favourites Angie and Yvie.

Each will share their best doggie tips and tricks with crowds over the two days and joining in on the Common Woof Games event.

While patrons can’t bring their own pets along, more than 500 dogs of all shapes and sizes will be at the show for everyone to enjoy.
