A Velvet Underground exhibition is heading to New York City and is set to feature some of the band’s best memorabilia including movies, portraits, artwork, and more.

The Velvet Underground Experience was first shown in Paris in 2016, where it debuted alongside a concert that saw John Cale perform some of the Velvet Underground’s biggest songs with groups including The Libertines and Animal Collective.

According to the band’s website, the exhibition will “contain six films, 350+ photos, 1,000+ objects, and a VR greenhouse featuring projections that recreate the atmosphere of the banana album artwork produced by Andy Warhol.”

There will also be “concerts, special events, lectures, pop-up installations, fashion collaborations, art exhibitions, screenings, performances, and masterclasses” to coincide with the exhibition.

Speaking in a statement, the exhibition co-curators Christian Fevret and Carole Mirabello said: “The exhibition portrays the creative effervescence of the ’60s NY from which the Velvet Underground emerged to achieve mythic status and change the face of pop culture.”

The Velvet Underground Experience will open on October 10 and run until December 31, at 718 Broadway, New York. You can find out more details here.

Last month, it was revealed that archive interviews with the late Lou Reed have been compiled for a new book which will be published next month.

Over 30 interviews with Reed from his solo era are being compiled for My Week Beats Your Year: Encounters With Lou Reed.

The collection has been described as “one fan’s humble attempt to move beyond the Bangs canon, and delve deeper into the distance and intimacy, cactus and mercury, that constituted Lou’s post-Velvet Underground public media image”.

The announcement of the new book follows on from the recent emergence of a collection of Reed’s unpublished poetry, which was finally published back in April. Only three of the 12 poems and short stories in the collection were published before the release of the book.
