ARSON squad detectives are investigating after a suspicious fire outside a mosque in Mirrabooka in the early hours of this morning.

Police said emergency services were called after 12.20am this morning to Boyare Avenue after smoke was seen billowing from outside the Al-Taqwa Masjid mosque.

They said the fire damaged some chairs and a tree outside and caused some smoke damage to the interior.

The fire coincided with the end of Eid al-Adha, the Islamic Festival of Sacrifice, which was celebrated in across the world last night.

Much of the community was celebrating at the Eid Festival in Herb Graham Recreation Centre in the lead up to the fire.

Police are appealing for anyone with information on the fire to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or make a report online at crimestopperswa.com.au.
