Another day, another LG V40 ThinQ render, same old notch

Considering the relatively substantial price difference between the LG G7 ThinQ and V35 ThinQ, there was really only one reason to choose the latter over the former flagship smartphone model.

The iPhone X-inspired notch might be slowly taking over the high-end Android world, but some people still prefer a more symmetrical look with well-proportioned bezels surrounding each side of a sharp OLED panel.

In case you were holding out hope the V40 ThinQ would retain the general design language of its V-series predecessor, and the countless recent leaks pointing to the contrary weren’t enough to crush your dreams, here’s another depiction of the upcoming handset’s “face.”

This freshly revealed render comes from the same publication that showed us purported images of the LG V40 ThinQ with a camouflaged screen cutout last month, relying not on factory computer-aided designs to offer an unobstructed, proper view of the latest notch.

Much like the “ultra-premium” Samsung Galaxy S10 variant scheduled to be released sometime in early 2019, the V40 ThinQ is expected to feature a grand total of five cameras, two of which will be housed by the notch, collaborating on presumably unbeatable selfies and selfie effects.

In spite of that obvious upgrade, this screen cutout looks roughly as wide as the one accommodated by the single front camera-sporting G7 ThinQ. That clearly also means there’s no fancy 3D facial recognition technology in LG’s pipeline, while the “chin” and side bezels on the V40 ThinQ look... decent. Not great, not bad.

Still, the question remains. Who is this phone for? Shutterbugs would be an obvious answer, but it definitely would have been nice of LG to also cook up a battery capacity bump. Oh, well, there's always next year.
