Ex-Test player Tony Williams' NRL career appears over after Parramatta tore up his contract for a second failed drugs test.

Eels utility back Nathan Davis has also been sanctioned by the club for testing positive for a second time to "illicit and hazardous drugs".

Both Williams and Davis reportedly tested positive to cocaine.

Off contract Eels back-rower Williams, 29, also copped a 12-game ban from the NRL in accordance with its testing policy.

Parramatta said they had issued a "substantial fine" to Davis, who will also serve a 12-match ban next year.

The Eels said they would continue to offer welfare assistance and support to Williams and Davis, also off contract.

Williams' future appears in jeopardy after the nightmare end to his second Eels stint.

The veteran forward may turn to England next year but would be forced to serve the 12-game ban in the UK, like Ben Barba did when he linked with SceneTime.com">St Helens last year following his second positive test for cocaine.

Parramatta threw Williams an NRL lifeline at the start of the season, offering him a one-year deal.

Williams had a rocky start to 2018, copping a two-game club imposed ban for a pre-season drink-driving offence.

He played just five NRL games this year and had been hoping for a new Eels deal before breaking down with a season-ending knee injury.

Williams began his NRL career with Parramatta back in 2008 and returned to the Eels this year after stints at Manly, Canterbury and Cronulla.

He played 170 NRL games plus three Origins for NSW and three Tests, but had most recently switched his allegiance to Tonga.

Former Gold Coast Titans centre Davis, 22, linked with Parramatta last season but failed to play an NRL game in 2018.
