  4. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) has long been a dominant player in the chip making market, but it has been struggling as the market has shifted from PCs to mobile devices. Now the company could be in even bigger trouble. According to Bloomberg, Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) is considering a move into the chip making market. Google weighs moving into ARM chips Currently Intel holds over 95% of the chip market for PCs, and if Google enters the market, it would be at least a partial shift away from Intel. Google is said to be considering making its own chips using ARM-based technology. Entering into the chip making market would be a major move for Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG), mainly because of how expensive endeavor it would be. The company makes most of its money through Internet advertising and online services. However, Google might be able to offer better pricing by making its own chips, and it could push competitors like Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) and Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) into doing the same, Evercore Partners analyst Patrick Wang told Bloomberg. Why Google might want to make chips The analyst also noted that Google doesn’t necessarily have to get into the chip market. It just has to talk about it in order to squeeze better prices out of suppliers. However, Bloomberg’s source said the search giant would be able to have more control over the interactions between software and hardware if it did use its own chip designs. The source also said that Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG), which is one of the biggest purchasers of server chips, hasn’t made a final decision and that the plans could change. Problems for Intel Shares of Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) fell 3% in after-hours trading after the report about Google. Several analysts have begun to be more positive on Intel lately because of the company’s more realistic forecast for 2014 and signs that the PC market may be bottoming out. However, if Google would shift away from Intel, that would spell trouble for the company. Bloomberg’s supply chain analysis indicates that Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) is Intel’s fifth biggest customer, spending at $500 million or more on chips from Intel every year. On the other hand, however, analysts estimate that it could take up to three years for Google to design and build its own server chips from scratch.
  5. Google has never revealed the scale of profits YouTube makes since acquiring the video streaming service for $1.65 billion seven years ago. However, the analysts and researchers still can take guesses. The latest estimates were made by eMarketer – it predicts that the gross ad revenues of the service will increase over 50% to $5.6 billion this year, which is more than 10% of Google’s total revenue. Even after the company has paid ad partners and video creators their percentage, its net ad revenues are still predicted to reach almost $2 billion in 2013, up 65% compared to last year’s $1.18 billion. The researchers have also broken out YouTube’s net ad revenues in the United States, estimating that the figure will reach $1.08 billion, $850 million of it coming from video ads. Thus, YouTube gets 1/5 of all US video advertising revenues for 2013. Of course, all these estimations are all guesswork, but eMarketer claims that it is based on “hundreds of datapoints and studies about YouTube revenues, ad impressions, rates, usage and other information received from research companies, investment banks, Google reports and interviews with industry executives. Those interested can compare eMarketer’s analysis to other numbers: for example, in May 2013, Morgan Stanley predicted that the company’s gross revenues would reach $4 billion this year, while Barclays thought it would be $3.6 billion. Recent report by analyst firm Wedge Partners also suggested that YouTube accounts for about 10% of Google’s revenues (which corresponds with eMarketer’s analysis), which if the Google’s 4th quarter matched the average revenues across the previous quarters would result in approximately $5.7 billion of YouTube revenues for the year as a whole. Still, it all remains guesswork, and Google is very unlikely to announce the real figures anytime soon. It is worth noting that the $1.65bn Google paid for YouTube seven years ago (a sum which shocked many people at the time) looks like something of a bargain today. The company’s public statistics for YouTube reveal that the service attracts 1bn people watching over 6bn hours of video per month, and 80% of its traffic is coming from abroad. 40% of its viewing time is consumed by mobile devices.
  6. Two months after being forced to shut down his website, isoHunt founder Gary Fung has launched a Kickstarter campaign for his new P2P clothing line Viva 10.23. With this new venture he continues to promote file-sharing and Internet freedom but while his battle with Hollywood is now concluded, Fung does have a final word of advice for his former adversaries. “Give customers what they want, at high quality, with the most convenience, at the right price, at the right time,” he says. garyobamaAfter a legal battle lasting nearly eight years, isoHunt founder Gary Fung announced the site’s closure last month. The Canada-based Internet entrepreneur signed a $110 million settlement with the MPAA and shut down isoHunt.com, the site which he had worked on for more than a decade. IsoHunt’s closing marked the end of an era, but despite the setback Fung is not giving up his ideals. Last month we reported that he had teamed up with an old friend, Clifford Joe, to start a new clothing line titled ‘Viva 10.23′, a reference to the date isoHunt was officially shut down. Today the duo have launched their Kickstarter campaign, hoping to raise $10,230 through crowdsourcing to get the project started. People who back the project will get a T-shirt or hoodie of their choice, depending on the pledge amount. Fung describes the concept as “political fashion” and the designs carry statements such as “Stop Watching Us” and “Freedom to Share.” “For 11 years while I worked on isoHunt I’ve witnessed one thing: the Internet is about sharing, and file-sharing is a movement that is about more than mere files or copyright. It’s about the Freedom to share, the Freedom to create. And relatedly nowadays, the Freedom to not be spied on,” Fung told us. “It is these freedoms, at the intersection of isoHunt closing and the erosion of privacy and other information freedoms, that gave me the idea for a clothing line. One that carries social statements with ironic twists, statements and designs in the form of t-shirts, sweaters and hoodies.” https://d2pq0u4uni88oo.cloudfront.ne...-h264_high.mp4 Viva 10.23 promises to be more than the average clothing line. True to the “sharing” spirit the founders believe in, the brand will also accept input from the public. They will create a sub-Reddit where people can submit and vote on designs and slogans for the next “P2P clothing” designs. The majority of profits Viva 10.23 makes will be donated to organizations that support Internet freedom issues, such as EFF, Wikimedia and Openmedia.ca. Hollywood shouldn’t expect a cut, but Fung does have a word of advice for his former adversaries. If they really want to stop piracy they should do it through innovation, and not by suing people left and right. “Give customers what they want, at high quality, with the most convenience, at the right price, at the right time. If not, battles are won but the war maybe already lost,” Fung says. For isoHunt’s founder the clothing line is not going to be a major revenue source. He receives a one time consulting fee of $110 and continues to look for new ways to challenge the status quo. “The Internet is a big place. I’ll continue using it to come up with new and better ways of upsetting the status quo where it’s stupid. Viva 10.23, what I envision to be a massively localized and crowdsourced political fashion platform, is one such way,” Fung says. source http://torrentfreak.com/
  7. An expert on digital currencies from Ernst & Young claimed that Bitcoin doesn’t have to replace normal currency to have a future. The expert described a number of myths around the currency, one of which was its position as a replacement for “fiat” money. Fiat currency is essentially currency the government decrees to be legal tender. And Bitcoin was obviously not created as a replacement for fiat currency. There are many people talking about how Bitcoin is going to take over, or how it doesn’t have the properties lending to it being used widely. The currency was really created to be used in electronic commerce and for micro transactions. If you remember this, the future risks for the currency take on a different shape. At the moment, many experts are concerned with such problems as price volatility and the deflationary nature of Bitcoin. Since there will only ever be 21 million Bitcoins, it has led some to fear that the currency will have a “deflationary” element, leading to each unit getting more valuable over time. Deflation is usually blamed for the “lost decade” in Japan, and Ernst & Young emphasized that it adheres to the mainstream economic view that mild positive inflation is healthy for a national currency. However, when talking about using Bitcoin as an ecommerce tool, deflation seems to be not necessarily problematic. Instead, the experts highlighted problems of speed and fraud control as the most pressing priorities for the virtual currency. To prevent fraud, the Bitcoin network has to “confirm” transactions every ten minutes. This is one of the weaknesses with Bitcoin – the problem is that you generally have to wait for 5 to 6 transaction confirmations before making sure that your money hasn’t been spent twice, which can take up to 40 or 50 minutes. Some businesses have decided that speed is worth the risk. One pub in London takes Bitcoin and accepts unconfirmed transactions as payment, for example. However, not every retailer is able to that – especially if they are selling goods more expensive than beer. Ernst & Young believes that there are definite possible gains in Bitcoin, in terms of lowered transaction costs. On the other side, there are also some significant negatives, in terms of accountability and how to deal with anonymous users and how to regulate in the market.
  8. Too many apps in Apple and Google app stores have been targeted for hacking. The security experts point out that financial apps on Android are the most vulnerable. In most cases, applications have been hacked and uploaded to 3rd-party stores or Google Play in a bid to capture credentials from consumers, or to operate maliciously, or to defraud the app’s creator by removing adware elements. Security experts admit that hacked apps are showing up in various storefronts, like Cydia, in a decrypted state, so by definition the software has been hacked. The specialists have seen multiple examples where there has been some tampering with the original code. In the meantime, financial apps are a particular concern, because people trust them with sensitive data, like bank account numbers and passwords. It was found that 23% of sample iOS financial apps had been hacked and reposted, as well as 53% of Android financial apps. As you know, Android users are able to download apps from 3rd-party stores through setting on their devices, while iOS users have to “jailbreak” their device to do so. In other words, they voluntarily use a hacking attack to give themselves the equivalent of “root” privileges for installing software. Thus far, iOS 7 hasn’t been jailbroken. However, even Google’s official Play store itself can be a source of malware and hacked applications. A few months ago BlackBerry had to halt the rollout of its BBM app for Android because a hacked version appeared in the Play store before the official one and had been downloaded over a million times. The experts also warn that it’s easy for people to upload a “Bank of America” app onto Google Play and use freely available data about the bank, while fooling users. It is believed that Google Play isn’t a vetted app store, having a lot of cruft, while in the Apple Store users are almost certain to see only legitimate apps. So, hacked code is not a significant problem in Apple’s App Store, as the company vets all apps before uploading them onto its App Store. As for Google, it will remove apps only after the complaints emerge or if they are detected as having malware. Both Google and Apple platforms have a “kill switch” that is able to retrospectively delete malicious installed apps from the devices.
  9. Although none of their staff and servers have moved, the infamous torrent file sharing website The Pirate Bay has moved the location of where it was based. Interestingly, the site address now reflects that it is based in a territory that is British owned and ruled. The British have been particularly active in their efforts to block people from accessing The Pirate Bay site. For the last year or so the site had been operating with an address which based it in Saint Martin, a tiny island in the Atlantic. Authorities seized the domain name earlier in the week, however, and so the owners of the site have moved to Ascension Island. Insiders say that they know they will only be able to get away with this for a short time, what with the island being under British rule, and plans are in place to fix a more long term address for the site in South America. Trying to shut down The Pirate Bay all together has been the public face of the fight against online piracy by authorities. Many are left baffled why this site in particular is the main target. It does not on its servers store any illegal or pirated material itself, instead acting as a conduit for individuals to share files through. This was much how the Napster programme worked in the late 1990s, when online piracy first appeared as a threat. As was the case with Napster, The Pirate Bay is merely one of hundreds of sites which allow users to exchange material – legal and illegal – via peer-to-peer (P2P) networking and torrent downloads. Whilst the authorities seem to hold the view that bringing an end to The Pirate Bay will end piracy, it is unlikely to be the case.
  10. Government regulators in Canada are poised to open a formal investigation into whether Google is abusing its dominance of the Internet search market to stifle competition and drive up digital advertising prices. Canada's Competition Bureau indicated in a filing made in an Ottawa federal court earlier this week that it suspects that Google has been breaking the country's antitrust laws. Regulators are seeking a court order that would require Google's Canadian subsidiary to furnish antitrust investigators with internal company records. Based on its preliminary findings, the commission "has reason to believe that the manner in which Google operates its search engine and search-advertising platforms ... amount to an abuse of a dominant position," wrote Mark MacLachlan, a senior competition law office for the agency. Among other things, Canadian regulators believe Google has been giving preferential treatment to its own services in its influential search rankings to thwart potential rivals. Investigators are also examining whether Google's partnerships with other websites and device makers are making it more difficult for rival products to compete. Those concerns mirror issues that have already been raised by regulators in other countries. "We will work cooperatively with the Competition Bureau to answer any questions they may have," said Google spokeswoman Leslie Church. The Mountain View, Calif., company has consistently defended its search rankings as a form or free speech and denied doing anything to squash competition. Canada's Competition Bureau didn't immediately respond to a request for comment late Friday. Regulatory headaches have become a recurring pain for Google during the past few years. The company has cemented its position as the Internet's main gateway while expanding into other areas such as online video, digital maps, business reviews and shopping that have gained traction with the assistance of a search engine that processes about two out of every three online queries.. The US Federal Trade Commission closed an extensive antitrust investigation into Google's methods earlier this year without finding any wrongdoing. Attorneys general in various states are still scrutinizing Google for possible anti-competitive behaviour, but none have taken action against the company. A broad investigation by European regulators remains open, though Google has offered to tweak the way to it ranks some of its search results in an attempt to resolve the inquiry without facing financial penalties. Canada opened an informal inquiry into Google's business practices in May, according to this week's filing. The probe hadn't been previously disclosed.
  11. In common with more than two dozen other sites, popular torrent site YIFY-Torrents is blacked out in the UK by High Court order, completely unavailable by standard means. Or is it? By the time you read this article the site should be again widely available, but how was that achieved? Today TorrentFreak speaks with the site’s network gurus to learn more about their technical battle with the UK’s Internet censors. In 2010 when x264 really started to take off, an opportunity was spotted by an individual called YIFY. The codec allowed the spreading of movies in a compact filesize, something which proved popular with the masses. By August 2011 YIFY releases had become so popular they justified a platform of their own. A site bearing the same name was born and quickly grew to become a major player. By 2013 the site was receiving 700,000 visitors a day, something which placed it on Hollywood’s radar. Perhaps inevitably, on November 22, 2013, the popular torrent site was blocked by the UK’s leading ISPs following a High Court order obtained by the major Hollywood studios. Anyone wanting to access the site could now only do so by using a web proxy, reverse proxy, VPN, or other anti-censorship tool. YIFY-Torrents wanted to do something about that. “Our user base is the most important and integral part of Yify-Torrents, so having access restricted by major ISPs not only in the UK but also other places around the world was a big worry for us and we almost immediately started looking for solutions to the problem,” YIFY’s tech team told TorrentFreak. “As most of us here at Yify-Torrents are based outside the focuses of large anti-piracy groups it was difficult for us to assess what was happening. Our first step was to figure out exactly how widespread the blocking was and how they were doing it.” YIFY says their first guess was backed up a TorrentFreak report detailing findings by EZTV that ISPs were carrying out their own DNS scrapes to update their blacklists, something which later led to the accidental blocking of TorrentFreak. Time to carry out some tests. “After a day of coding up a small test application we sent it out to some UK visitors that had reached out and expressed their interests in aiding in any way possible. Within a day we had results for two major ISPs in the country, Sky and TalkTalk. This provided the first real insight into the issue and was when we hit our first milestone!” YIFY discovered that DNS lookups for YIFY-Torrents.com still responded with the site’s IP addresses meaning that they could rule out DNS tampering. Also, pings to YIFY’s infrastructure were replied to, meaning that the ISPs weren’t simply dropping traffic to blacklisted IP addresses. With no DNS tampering, YIFY had opportunity to bypass the blocks. sky“After all the testing we came to the conclusion that Sky (and others) regularly pull IPs listed on our DNS servers and add them to their block list. This block list is then used by an advanced proxy system that redirects any requests to the blacklisted IPs to a webserver that the ISP owns and returns a stock ‘blocked page’ message,” YIFY explains. “What this meant for us was that if we added new IPs behind yify-torrents.com they would work until Sky and friends updated their blacklist. This was our second edge on Sky. Because they did the blocking on an IP level and didn’t do anything related to domain names, we could do some fancy DNS trickery to keep the site online.” People attempting to access YIFY-Torrents.com during the next few hours from the leading ISPs should find out the site has been unblocked. At the time of writing Virgin Media is for some reason causing problems, but a solution to that (and any others that might appear) is just a couple of clicks away. “We have set-up a new domain name for inhibited visitors: yify-torrents.im, which should already be accessible to all. This domain was and still is running completely separately from the main site. What we were originally betting on was that in order for our new domain to be blocked, anti-piracy groups would need to get another court order to get it taken down, something that doesn’t happen overnight,” YIFY says. But what YIFY wanted was a more permanent solution and for this they are currently using CloudFlare “CloudFlare is an amazing CDN and security provider for small to large sites. They offer caching of services so that any static content is loaded from CloudFlare instead of the origin server,” YIFY explains. “Along with this it offers protection because instead of the IPs of your real server being public, CloudFlare’s IPs are seen instead. This offers protection from plenty of web nasties like DDoS attacks. In fact, CloudFlare have and still do harbor some notorious sites like LulzSecurity’s site. Whilst the protection isn’t perfect (people can still submit DMCA notices and get real IP addresses), this wasn’t a problem for us as we already have a setup where the only public IPs listed are those of our front-end caches.” yifyeztvAt this point, YIFY returns to the EZTV story referenced earlier and why blocking CloudFlare IP addresses to get at YIFY-Torrents would be a particularly bad idea. “Because CloudFlare provide services to something like 1,000,000 customers, any downtime would affect a large portion of the Internet. Everything from Imgur to gaming forums who use their services would go down.” But while YIFY could use CloudFlare exclusively, they are choosing not to thanks to something called Geo DNS. “GeoDNS allows us to hand out different IP addresses based on the location of the visitor. Our new system uses this to hand out CloudFlare IPs and only CloudFlare IPs to any UK visitor that hits our site, whilst the rest of the world gets to use our existing network.” Details shared with TorrentFreak this morning shows that there is a real cat and mouse game going on behind the scenes, with YIFY doing everything they can to unblock their site and measures being taken by certain ISPs to hinder them. The site acknowledges that there still might be issues over the next few days while the system is fine-tuned but they hope that by sharing some of their findings other sites will able to take similar measures to thwart censorship. In any event, they believe that overall the sites will prevail. “It’s really a giant game of cat and mouse with the supposed ‘good guys’ always playing catch up. ISPs have exhausted every single tactic in keeping sites censored and are bordering on affecting other legitimate sites like was seen with TorrentFreak and EZTV. When that sort of stuff starts happening, there really is nothing more they can do. “Don’t get me wrong, it isn’t all smooth sailing from here on out, but we are happy to have the site up and running back in the UK for now and will keep on pushing against the ever growing censorship that is happening everywhere we look,” YIFY concludes.

  23. This is a private tracker mainly for music releases, but that's not all! They have an amazing selection of E-Learning, software and comics as well. It has to be the best looking trackers I have ever used. It makes me want to login everyday and just stare at the screen lol "Founded in October of 2007, What.CD is a private BitTorrent tracker focusing largely on music. With its fast download speeds, well-seeded torrents, and wide selection of music files encoded in such lossless formats as FLAC, in addition to such lossy formats as MP3, Ogg Vorbis, AAC, and AC3, What.CD is a music-lover's paradise. For the true audiophile, What.CD offers FLAC 24-bit/96 kHz vinyl, SACD, DVD-Audio, and multi-channel DTS rips. Furthermore, What.CD offers eLearning videos, eBooks, comic books, software, and audio books." 24. Tvtorrents.com (TVT) Is One of The Old TV Tracker Since 2004, Closed For Signups But Getting Invite Is Not Difficult. The Interface n Site Design OF TVT Is Average n Most Will Not Like It, But "Dont JUDGE The BOOK By Its Cover" Same As Dont Judge TVT by its Design Bcoz d Pretimes, Seeds, Content 'n Speeds In TVT Are Awesome. Instead Of Ratio System (Download n Upload System), TVT Is Handled With Credits. Your Upload Amount Will Be Count In Credits. If You Download 1Gb, Your Gredits Go Down By 1 Gcredits. If You Have No Credits, You Cannot Download A Torrent, So Make Sure, Your Inviter Gives You Some Credits Before Inviting You! Overall TVT Is Another Underrated Tracker With Good Pretimes, Speeds n Content. Tracker Name: TVtorrents.com Tracker Type: TV Maintaining Ratio: Easy. Tracker Signup: Closed / Invite only.
