  1. Charlie Cox is Daredevil and Krysten Ritter is Jessica Jones. Now we have the third of the four members of Marvel / Netflix's Defenders crossover event series: Mike Colter will star as Luke Cage, sometimes known as Power Man. You call him names and he sits and grins, 'cause everyone else is just a sucker to him. This is breakout role for Colter, who's been plugging away in movies and TV for a good decade. On the small screen he's been in the usual suspects like ER, the various Law & Orders, American Horror Story and The Good Wife. In the cinema you might have caught him in Million Dollar Baby,Salt, Men In Black 3 or Zero Dark Thirty. This year he's been Jameson Locke in the X-Box Live series Halo: Nightfall. He's about to blow up rather bigger. Cage will first appear in A.K.A. Jessica Jones before his own series airs. "Viewers will meet him and experience why he is such an important superhero in the Marvel mythos," says Marvel's head of television Jeph Loeb. "Fans have longed to see Luke Cage and in Mike we've found the perfect actor." "Mike embodies the strength, edge and depth of Luke Cage,” adds executive producer/showrunner Melissa Rosenberg. “We're excited to have him bring this iconic Marvel character to life." Cage’s superpowers are the result of an experimental procedure. In Cage’s case, the result was supposed to produce immunity to all illness, but he emerged from the operation with steel-tough, bulletproof skin, super-dense muscle, and massively enhanced strength and stamina. As Power Man he became a “Hero For Hire”, eventually teaming up with Iron Fist. In the comics he has team affiliations with the Defenders and the New Avengers, and an ongoing romantic dalliance (and a baby) with Jessica Jones. As evidenced by yesterday's new stills, Daredevil is first off the blocks in Netflick's Marvel onslaught, debuting sometime next year and followed sometime thereafter by A.K.A. Jessica Jones. Luke Cage will be third, with Iron Fist completing the collector's set and leading into the full-blown Defenders show. So now all we need is a Danny Rand...
  2. Kevin Hart's 2014 brought us the not inconsiderable roster of Ride Along, Grudge Match, About Last Night, Think Like A Man Too and Top Five. And while his 2015 isn't looking quite so crowded, it will at the very least unveil Ride Along 2, The Wedding Ringer and Get Hard. To prepare you, the latest trailer for the latter has just arrived online. Be warned: you will see Will Ferrell naked. Cursory inspection of Get Hard suggests similarities to the woeful Rob Schneider vehicle Big Stan(con undertakes a toughening-up programme prior to a stint in jail) and to that unfortunate recent series of films that use the trope of middle class white people getting black people to teach them to be criminals (Horrible Bosses, Tower Heist). Thankfully, however, Get Hard reveals, even in its trailer, that there's more going on here. The premise is Ferrell's own mistaken assumptions about Hart's character, who has never committed a crime or set foot in a prison in his life. Etan Cohen, the writer of Idiocracy, Tropic Thunder and Men In Black 3, penned Get Hard's screenplay and has also made it his directorial debut. He's currently deep in post-production, and we'll see the results of his labours in the UK on March 27.
  3. Continuing his recent trend of looking unrecognisable from one film to the next, this new still fromEverest reveals a more hirsute Jake Gyllenhaal than we're used to. Josh Brolin, Jason Clarke and John Hawkes also star in the moutaineering disaster drama, directed by Baltasar Kormákur (Contraband, 2 Guns). The story is of the 1996 events, made famous by Jon Krakauer's book Into Thin Air (already filmed as a TV movie with Christopher McDonald as Krakauer), in which three separate Everest expeditions ran into tragic difficulty in a sudden storm. Eight climbers died. This version of what happened is drawn from more sources than just Krakauer however, including other books and new interviews with the survivors. The screenplay is by William Nicholson (Gladiator, Les Misérables) and newcomer Justin Isbell. Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner of Working Title are producers, and Keira Knightley, Robin Wright, Emily Watson, Clive Standen, Michael Kelly, Sam Worthington also number among the impressive cast. Shooting took place in Italy and Nepal earlier this year, and Everest will be in UK cinemas on October 2, 2015.
  4. The Woman In Black: Angel Of Death is almost upon us, and should you need a refresher on the mythology, Hammer have just released this handsome motion comic as a primer. Jeremy Irvine, who plays mysterious airman Harry in the follow-up to James Watkins' 2012 original, narrates the terrible tale of Jennet Humfrye and Alice Drablow... The new film takes place decades after Daniel Radcliffe’s ill-fated visit to Eel Marsh House. The Second World War is raging in Europe, and teachers Eve (Phoebe Fox) and Jean (Helen McRory) have been tasked with evacuating a dozen Blitz orphans from London to the isolated North-Eastern coastal village of Crythin Gifford, and specifically to that isolated house on the causeway, uninhabited for years apart from the malevolent shade of a certain Jenette Humfrye stalking its hallways. Also new to the area is RAF bomber pilot Harry (Irvine), posted not far from the teachers and the children. But he has a secret... Tom Harper (Peaky Blinders) is the director, working from a screenplay by Jon Croker. The Woman In Black: Angel Of Death is out in the UK on January 1.
  5. The recent trend of movie and TV projects forgoing traditional channels and heading straight for streaming platforms continues this morning with the news that Pee-Wee Herman's comeback movie will debut on Netflix. In the works since at least 2010, Pee-Wee's third big adventure will be produced by Judd Apatow. Not much is yet known about the film, but last we heard it was taking a road movie format, with Pee-Wee's alter-ego Paul Reubens working on the screenplay with Paul Rust. Should you be unaware, Herman was big news in the US in the 1980s, with the Saturday morning show Pee Wee's Playhouse running on CBS from 1986 until 1990. It was mad. Laurence Fishburn was in it. Tim Burton's Pee Wee's Big Adventure (and its non-Burton sequel Big Top Pee-Wee) followed, but then there was the unfortunate incident in the disreputable Florida movie theatre, and suddenly Reubens was no longer a children's entertainer... In recent years though, he's been having a bit of a renaissance. There was a one-man show on Broadway; sell-out festival screenings of Big Adventure; and Pee Wee's Playhouse, The Pee-Wee Herman show and the two movies are already playing to enthusiastic audiences on Netflix, making the platform a sensible-looking home for further instalments. "Let's face it," said Apatow when the project was first announced, "the world needs more Pee-Wee Herman. I am so excited to be working with Paul Reubens, who is an extraordinary and ground-breaking actor and writer. It's so great to watch him return with such relevance." A Netflix spokesperson has said the deal isn't quite done yet, but it's looking pretty likely. There's no director in place either, but Reubens/Herman says he hopes to be shooting by February.
  6. We saw the first trailer a couple of months ago. Now here's a trio of new Focus posters and a brand new trailer (see below) to answer all your run-up-to-Christmas Will Smith and Margot Robbie needs. The caper sees Smith playing a con artist getting romantically involved with Robbie's novice grifter, only for the partnership to sour. Flash-forward in time, and our hero is setting up an elaborate heist in Buenos Aires when the owner of an international racing team (300's Rodrigo Santoro) hires him to help gain an edge over the competition. But when Robbie shows up again, both men compete for her affections and the love triangle’s sharp edges start to cut… Crazy, Stupid, Love directors Glenn Ficarra and John Requa wrote the script and are once again behind the cameras, this time in New Orleans and Buenos Aires. Focus is scheduled for release on February 27.
  7. With the franchise-hungry Hollywood machine demanding more sequels, the '2' key is one of the most well-worn on studio execs' keyboards. Occasionally, though, comes a film that lends itself so naturally to a second instalment that we almost want to wish it into existence. Considering the unique demands it placed on its cast and creator, Boyhood may well not turn out to be that film, but when Empire met Richard Linklater recently, he definitely didn't rule it out. "There is kind of this parallel world we’ve created through these fictional characters," he reflected on the potential for a Boyhood 2 (Manhood, perhaps?). "So you never know, you never know. The twenties are interesting though. There are lots of unrepresented areas of development you go through. If you think about cinema representation, you know usually it’s like maybe college, you get a degree, and then it’s always like you’re right into marriage, kids — and the twenties can be this netherworld of still figuring out who the hell you are. So maybe there’s something there. But I don’t know. Way too soon. Way too soon!" Of course, with a cast partly made up of non-professional actors, including Ellar Coltrane and Lorelei Linklater, and Linklater himself wrapped up with college comedy That’s What I’m Talking About and a myriad of Oscar functions, the very notion of another multi-year commitment seems far-fetched. But... but... if life teaches one thing - apart from the thing about not giving us bumpers - it's that you don't rule anything out. "No, you don’t," agrees Linklater, "because [boyhood] is so close to life". He applies to the same answers to the idea of a fourth instalment of the Before story. "You know, if I’ve learned anything from the Before trilogy, it’s that you never know. And b), it’s too soon. I mean, those films, I go five years, Ethan (Hawke), Julie (Delpy) and I go five years just recovering from the last one, what it takes to do those, before we realise that Jesse and Celine are at a new phase of life. And I don’t know, it could be the same with these family members, you know? It’s hard to say." Boyhood is out on DVD and Blu-ray on January 19.
  8. In preparation for the masked vigilante’s 2015 Netflix debut, two new images of Daredevil have been delivered by Santa to tide you over until the new year. Coming courtesy of Entertainment Weekly, the images see Charlie Cox’s Man Without Fear in and out of costume: first in his civilian guise as legal eagle Matt Murdock, then cleaning up the streets as his crime-fighting alter ego. If you’re wondering why the latter outfit is a little more ‘Dread Pirate Roberts’ than Daredevil fans are used to, this is the prototype costume Murdock dons in his early days (and indeed the Frank Miller Man Without Fear run), before busting out the more iconic burgundy leather devil suit. In addition to the stills, Marvel’s Jeph Loeb dropped a couple of further hints about the show. “There aren’t going to be people flying through the sky; there are no magic hammers,” he said. “We’ve always approached this as a crime drama first, superhero show second.” Excited yet? Excellent. Marvel’s Daredevil will debut on Netflix in the new year.
  9. Those who attended this year’s San Diego Comic-Con got a look at some elements from Guillermo del Toro’s new gothic horror Crimson Peak, mostly props and chunks of the set. Now we have a proper glimpse at one of the main characters, with a shot of Jessica Chastain in costume provided by The Film Stage. Crimson Peak finds Mia Wasikowska as author Edith Cushing, who is freshly wed to the charming, heroic Sir Thomas Sharpe (Tom Hiddleston). She moves to live with him in the titular massive, crumbling family pile in Cumbria. But soon after she arrives, she discovers that her husband is not who he appears to be, and the house itself has some very dark secrets. That she didn’t realise this when she learned it was called “Crimson Peak” is, frankly, her own lookout. Chastain plays Lady Lucille Sharpe, Sir Thomas’s sister, a woman who no doubt carries her fair share of dangerous mysteries swirling about her. She certainly doesn’t dress like someone who is all about a warm welcome. With Charlie Hunnam, Burn Gorman, Doug Jones, Leslie Hope and Jim Beaver aboard, Crimson Peak will haunt our cinemas on October 16 next year.
  10. Though it was initially thought that American Sniper might generate some fresh awards chatter around Bradley Cooper, who threw himself into the central role, so far the film, about US Navy SEAL shooter Chris Kyle has largely picked up only a couple of gongs – and those either for the film or director Clint Eastwood. Still, the reviews from the US have been mostly positive. The latest trailer is online. Jason Hall adapted Navy SEAL Kyle’s book, subtitled The Autobiography Of The Most Lethal Sniper In US Military History. That recorded Kyle’s career as a Texas-born shooter who notched the highest number of recorded kills for an American. But his dedication to his sights and his SEAL mates has an impact on his relationship with his wife (Sienna Miller), especially when he returns home to the States suffering what is eventually diagnosed as post-traumatic stress disorder. And, as the story explores, it impacted some of his fellow vets even more profoundly... American Sniper will be out here on January 16.
  11. Sony will release two new Yakuza-themed custom PlayStation 4 consoles in Japan alongside the new Yakuza game, the company has announced. There's the Kazuma Kiryu Edition and the Mashima Goro Edition, both of which feature dragon artwork inspired by Yakuza tattoo design. Sony's selling them as special consoles, but the fancy design bits are laser-engraved HDD covers. They each come in either the console's Jet Black or Glacier White version and will cost ¥41,980 (which is about $350) when they're released on March 12, 2015. The special edition console will give buyers a small discount on the upcoming Yakuza Zero, a prequel to the open world crime-themed series that takes place in 1988, seven years before the events of the first Yakuza game. During its PlayStation Experience event earlier this month, Sony and Sega announced that Yakuza 5 will finally get a Western release, coming to PlayStation 3 via PSN in 2015. Sega and Sony also recently madeYakuza 4 and Yakuza: Dead Souls available to download. So far, Sony and Sega didn't announce plans to release Yakuza Zero and the special edition PS4s outside of Japan. The companies also haven't said whether Yakuza: Ishin, the first PS4 game in the series, will get a Western release.
  12. New content is now available for the over-the-top Xbox One action game Sunset Overdrive in the form of the Mystery of Mooil Rig expansion, which you can buy now for $10 through the Xbox Store. The expansion is set on an oil rig that's completely surrounded by water, and it introduces a number of new, water-based traversal options such as momentary gliding and diving. There are "several hours" worth of new story and side missions, developer Insomniac Games writes on the Xbox Wire. You'll also find new weapons, amps, vanity items, and another Chaos Squad mission and Night Defense base. On top of that, Insomniac teases that you'll face off against a "multi-story monster" boss at the end of the expansion, though no further details were provided. Sunset Overdrive's Mystery of Mooil Rig also includes more achievements to collect, including one called "Beat the Dev." Take down a developer in the Chaos Squad mode, and you'll earn the achievement (worth 25 gamerscore), as well as an in-game shirt and a gas mask icon that will be featured next to your gamertag. Mystery of Mooil Rig is also available through the Sunset Overdrive DLC pass, which you can buy for $20. For more on the expansion, check out the image gallery below. Looking for even more Sunset Overdrive content? A new soundtrack, Sunset Overdrive: Volume 2 -- The Fizzco Sessions, is now available to buy. You can hear some sample tracks in our recent story.
  13. An enterprising New England-based physics professor is studying black holes using video game hardware. Dr. Gaurav Khanna, a black hole physicist at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, has strapped together PlayStation 3s, around 200 of them, to build a "supercomputer" that he's using to research and study vibrations in space-time called gravitational waves. His work at the university's Center for Scientific Computing and Visualization Research began in 2007 when he linked 16 PS3 systems to model black hole collisions. Now, he's going further, using the 200 PS3s to build a supercomputer capable of handing large numbers of processes. Khanna explained in an interview with The New York Times that "science has become expensive," and building a supercomputer out of PS3s made sense due to the console's technical capabilities (they can also run custom operating systems) and low cost relative to more traditional options. Sony Computer Entertainment America is a supporter of Khanna's enterprising research methods, even donating four PS3s to aid in his research. Khanna's PS3-powered supercomputer network uses the Linux operating system. The consoles he's using must be early models, as Sony disabled the PS3's "Install Other OS" feature in May 2013, citing security concerns. This isn't the first instance of a PS3 supercomputer. In 2011, scientists at the Air Force Research Labnetworked 1,716 systems to create what they at the time called one of the world's largest, fastest, and least expensive supercomputers. We may not see as many PS3-powered supercomputers in the future, however. Due to the system's memory limitations, future supercomputers are likely to be powered by PCs with beefy graphics cards, Khanna explained. "The next supercomputer we're going to build will probably be made entirely of these cards," he explained. "It won't work for everything, but it will certainly cover a large set of scientific and engineering applications, especially if we keep improving on it." The author of The New York Times story, Laura Parker, is a former GameSpot editor.
  14. What's next for Temple Run, the endless runner that's already been downloaded 1 billion times? Virtual reality, that's what. Developer Imangi Studios on Tuesday released the next Temple Run game, a version of the hit mobile game built for specifically for virtual reality called Temple Run VR. The free game is available today for $200 Samsung Gear VR Innovator Edition, an early version of the Oculus-powered VR headset that was released earlier in December. You can download the game today from the Oculus Store. Just like the original game and its sequel, Temple Run VR tasks you with running for your life to escape from demon monkeys. But this time you're in a snowy setting. This new version, of course, puts the experience into first-person, challenging you to dodge snow and ice, cross dangerous bridges, and vault over objects in your path from an all-new perspective. For more on Temple Run VR, check out the image gallery below. Be sure to click each image to see a full-size version.
  15. Ubisoft's free game offer that serves as an apology for Assassin's Creed Unity's launch troubles comes with one major stipulation. Those who claim a free game, according to the fine print, are agreeing to never sue Ubisoft over Unity's woes or the now-diminished value of the game's DLC pass. Game Informer spotted the important legal terms, which you can read in full at the bottom of this post. To sum up briefly, it says that by accepting the free game, you're waiving the right to sue Ubisoft or any of its divisions, either through a solo lawsuit or as part of a class-action legal battle. This kind of measure is not uncommon in gaming. In fact,Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, and Steam all have similar legal terms in place that block class-action suits. Unity's launch in November was marred by a long list of technical troubles, most of which, however, havesince been fixed through subsequent patches. Just before Thanksgiving, Ubisoft announced the free game offer, allowing anyone who bought the game's DLC pass to choose a free game from a list that includes some pretty great games. If you didn't buy the DLC pass (and it's since been removed from sale), you're still getting free content in the form of the Dead Kings expansion. This was originally supposed to be included with Unity's DLC pass, which explains why it's also mentioned in the lawsuit waiver terms below. Ubisoft has not yet set a release date for the Dead kings expansion, but when it's released, everyone will get it free. You hereby irrevocably and unconditionally RELEASE, WAIVE, AND FOREVER DISCHARGE AND COVENANT NOT TO SUE Ubisoft Entertainment S.A., and each of its past, present and future divisions, parent companies, subsidiaries, affiliates, predecessors, successors and assigns, together with all of their respective past, present and future employees, officers, shareholders, directors and agents, and those who give recommendations, directions, or instructions or engage in risk evaluation or loss control activities regarding the Campaign (all for the purposes herein referred to as “Released Parties”) FROM ANY AND ALL LIABILITY TO YOU, your assigns, heirs, and next of kin FOR ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, DEMANDS, CHARGES, LAWSUITS, DEBTS, DEFENSES, ACTIONS OR CAUSES OF ACTION, OBLIGATIONS, DAMAGES, LOSS OF SERVICE, COMPENSATION, PAIN AND SUFFERING, ATTORNEYS’ FEES, AND COST AND EXPENSES OF SUIT, KNOWN OR UNKNOWN, SUSPECTED OR UNSUSPECTED, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THE PURCHASE, ACQUISITION, RENTAL, POSSESSION AND/OR USAGE, AND/OR THE INTENT TO PURCHASE, ACQUIRE, RENT, POSSESS AND/OR USE, THE ASSASSIN’S CREED UNITY VIDEO GAME AND/OR THE ASSASSIN’S CREED UNITY SEASON PASS ON ANY AND ALL PLATFORMS, AND/OR RELATED TO THE CAMPAIGN, WHETHER CAUSED BY THE NEGLIGENCE OF THE RELEASED PARTIES OR OTHERWISE.
  16. When Microsoft announced earlier this month that Xbox boss Phil Spencer would be a featured speaker atJanuary's Windows 10 consumer event, some wondered why that might be. Now we know, as Spencer says the presentation will include news/reveals that should appeal to Xbox fans. Asked on Twitter if January's Windows 10 event would feature any noteworthy announcements about theXbox One, Spencer replied: "I think what we will show will be interesting to both Windows and Xbox gamers." Spencer will speak at the January 21 event at Microsoft's headquarters alongside Windows executives Terry Myerson and Joe Belfiore. All three are expected to talk about "the Windows 10 consumer experience" during the presentation, which Microsoft is calling "The Next Chapter." Just last week, Spencer strongly suggested that this Windows 10 event would have gaming news, when he said: "It's time for us to talk about gaming on Windows." In his role as Head of Xbox, Spencer not only oversees all Xbox gaming projects, but also everything to do with gaming inside of Microsoft. This includes PC gaming which, despite Microsoft's demonstrable priority focus on Xbox, Spencer has maintained is "incredibly important." When Microsoft announced Windows 10 in September, it described the OS as "one platform" for all of the company's products. However, we still don't know how Windows 10 might impact Xbox One. It's possible Spencer will talk about this during the Windows 10 event next month. Another possibility is that Spencer and company will talk about the rumored new Xbox App for Windows 10 and Cortana voice-recognition integration, both of which were leaked earlier this month. One gaming-related item we're not likely to see at next month's Windows 10 event is Microsoft's secret game-streaming technology, Arcadia. GameSpot sister site Zdnet reported last week that the technology istoo early on in development for an official reveal in January.
  17. The chief executive at The Witcher 3 studio CD Projekt Red has explained that the game was delayed in order to optimize its visuals across all formats. Marcin Iwinski told Nerdacy that the delay will not result in content changes, but instead bug fixes and to ensure the game runs at an optimal resolution and frame rate across all systems. "We are removing the final bugs and still running optimization in various areas. What it will result in is a smoother and more engaging experience and, yes, the game looking better across all platforms," he explained. "The content is locked, so no content changes are being made at this point. The scale of the open world in the Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is unprecedented, so fear not--there is enough gameplay to keep you playing for weeks." These comments come six months after it was rumors that The Witcher 3's resolution on Xbox One and PS4 could be noticably different. At the time, Iwinski said it was "too early" to say whether there would be a difference between the two home console versions. Then, in early December, CD Projekt RED announced it had delayed The Witcher 3 release date from February 2015 to May. At the time, the studio explained that the postponement was necessary in order to fulfil the studio's ambitions. "The sheer size and complexity of The Witcher, key features of the title, have had a decisive impact on production. Now, nearing the end of our work, we see many details that need to be corrected," the studio wrote when announcing the delay. In October, CD Projekt Red responded to rumors that the studio was entering crunch to finish the game on time, and that its public demonstrations were overly flattering. Writing on the games forum NeoGAF, one anonymous user took issue with others praising the Witcher 3, claiming that developer CD Projekt Red has built an "overblown" impression of the game. After the anonymous poster's legitimacy was questioned, a NeoGAF administrator claimed they had been "vetted and cleared," suggesting these were not the words of an outsider. The Witcher 3 release date is May 19, 2015 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. Pictured below: Ciri, The Witcher 3's new female hero.
  18. Microsoft continues its work to improve Xbox One game Halo: The Master Chief Collection, on Monday releasing a new patch, which, among other things, finally adds Halo 4's Spartan Ops mode. Spartan Ops is a multi-mission, episodic co-op mode for Halo 4. Microsoft announced in October that the mode wasn't going to be available at launch in November, saying it would be released in December so that developer 343 Industries could make "technical enhancements." In addition to adding Spartan Ops, today's Master Chief Collection introduces more improvements to the game's matchmaking system, and should bolster overall stability. The patch notes are below, courtesy of 343. 343 also attempted to clear up some confusion about The Master Chief Collection's utilization of dedicated servers. The developer says while the "vast majority" of games are played on dedicated servers, if players cannot connect to a dedicated server, everyone in the lobby stays together and the match is played on a peer-to-peer connection. "Please be aware that you may connect to the dedicated server quickly enough that you won't see the 'connecting to dedicated server' dialog," 343 said. "The absence of that dialog doesn't mean that you’re not playing on a dedicated server." Last week, Microsoft outlined its plans to make up for The Master Chief Collection's launch woes. Among other things, players will receive a free copy of Halo 3: ODST on Xbox One. The Master Chief Collection December 22 Patch Notes: Spartan Ops: Added the entirety of Halo 4's Spartan Ops mode Matchmaking: Made an update to make sure a match only starts when teams are even. Players will now receive a 'loss' when disconnecting before a round has ended. Made an update to include all split screen players in vote tally. Resolved an issue that caused players to become stuck "Joining Session." Resolved an issue where players could be dropped from matchmaking after disconnecting their controller. General Multiplayer Updates: Made additional improvements to Halo: CE hit registration. Made an update to the Halo 2: Anniversary Career Progress page to ensure achievements are correctly tracked. Fixed an issue where it took a long time to join players that are in a Multiplayer lobby. General UI/Menu Updates: Made additional improvements to Roster update times. Fixed Halo 3 game type text when viewing saved data in My Files. Halo 2: Anniversary Campaign: Fixed an issue where the 'Black Eye Skull' incorrectly prevented players from reaching checkpoints. Campaign Playlists: Fixed an issue where cross-game playlists could fail to progress to the next level. Made several fixes to Campaign Playlist Carnage Reports. Fixed an issue where Halo 3 Cooperative Playlist progress would not save correctly when completing a mission. Made changes to ensure that Competitive Scoring and Timing are tracked correctly in Halo CE and Halo 2 Campaign Playlists. Stats & Medals: Made updates to improve stat tracking. Fixed an issue where the 'Steaktacular' medal would not be correctly awarded in Halo 3. Fixed an issue where the 'Supercombine' medal would be incorrectly awarded in the Halo 4 Campaign. Achievements: Made an update to ensure that the 'Flaming Ninja Anniversary' achievement unlocks when prerequisites are met. Control Layouts: Updated the Halo 2 'Boxer' Button Layout. Updated the Halo 4 'Legacy' Thumbstick Layout. General Stability: Made several updates to improve overall game stability.
  19. Legendary fighting celebrity Bruce Lee, considered to be the father of mixed martial arts though he never actually fought competitively, is now a free character for all EA Sports UFC players. All five version of Lee (see below) are now free to download through January 5, 2015 on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network in North America, while all other regions get him tomorrow. Bruce Lee -- Bantamweight Division Bruce Lee -- Featherweight Division Bruce Lee -- Lightweight Division Bruce Lee -- Welterweight Division Bruce Lee -- Weightclass Bundle (all four divisions) News that Lee would appear in EA Sports UFC for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 broke in April, with some immediately scoffing at the move, pointing out that Lee never fought any real fights. This is true, but his daughter, Shannon Lee, told us in an interview that this doesn't matter because video games are fantasy. EA Sports UFC was recently added to EA's subscription service, EA Access, meaning all members who pay $5/month or $30/year can now play the game as much as they want.
  20. The folks at GadgetLove have put together an impressive GIF that shows off the evolution of Nintendo gaming controllers over the years. It's really mesmerizing--I definitely watched it loop a few times. One reason the GIF is so captivating, as GadgetLove points out, is that Nintendo controllers throughout the years have varied substantially in terms of design compared to iterations of PlayStation and Xbox controllers. An interactive version of the Nintendo GIF is also available through GadgetLove here, allowing you to scroll through the designs at your own pace. The site has also done the same for PlayStation and Xboxcontrollers. This GIF's arrival also comes not long after Nintendo confirmed it had begun work on new hardware to follow up the Wii U, which features a tablet-style GamePad controller. What was your favorite Nintendo controller? Let us know in the comments below!
  21. Halo's Pillar of Autumn, a massive UNSC spaceship, has been recreated in Lego form. Fan Lee Jones writes on this Lego fan creation community site that he spent 3.5 years and $7,000 to build the impressive brick ship. The ship is over six feet long and weighs more than 200 pounds. It's quite an impressive feat overall, though the most impressive part is probably the epic-looking engines, which you can see in the image at left. More images of Jones' Lego Halo ship are available at the Lego fansite. Lego does not make official Halo toy sets, though competitor Mega Bloks offers a range of similar toys for children based on the series. The next core Halo game is 2015's Halo 5: Guardians, which launches next fall on Xbox One. Everyone who bought Halo: The Master Chief Collection can play the game's beta beginning next week or today if you're an Xbox One Preview member. Thanks, Kotaku
