  1. Calvin Harris and his girlfriend, Aarika Wolf were involved in a serious car crash in Beverly Hills this afternoon. The producer was in the passenger seat while Aarika was driving a car which appeared to be stopped on the side sudden swerved out in front of their Range Rover. The sudden swerve did not give Aarika enough time to hit the breaks and she collided with the sedan. Details Emerge Initially, TMZ reported the crash was Aarika and Calvin's fault as they spoke with the two women who were in the sedan. An hour or so after their initial story was posted, a source close to Calvin reported the true facts behind the story, forcing them to update their article. The two women in the sedan are claiming to be in pain and plan on filing a police report. They went on to say they were upset that Calvin or Aarika did not check if they were okay. Nobody was transported to the hospital, and all involved seemed to be mostly okay. Still a dramatic afternoon for Calvin Harris today! See photos of the crash below.
  2. Experimentation is one of those fickle beasts within any creative scene. With subjective meanings juxtaposed against industry standards, as well as the ever-present search for acceptance and “cool”, it is an approach to creation that frequently gets lost in an interconnected system of artistry and promo. Many an artist (and brand) have found themselves on the cusp of experimentation, only to yield to the financial pressures of sponsorship, branding, and template, ultimately killing any artistic approach that once allowed for the very platform off which they once thrived. Mostly a result of financial stability, and the sirens call of corporate influence, it is few and far between those who buck the face of the “norm” and do so with longevity. With that, this month’s Lente Kabinet (now, weekender) Festival has invited several experimental acts to perform across its two day event. As the “little sister” to the, always experimenting, Dekmantel Festival, Lente Kabinet may even one up that event in terms of experimentation given its intimate focus and envelope pushing lineup across genre without the constraints of the former’s eponymous brand awareness. At this event there will be several acts who can be (in my opinion) categorized within a blanket term “experimental” context, however, given the differences in everything from genre, performance style, origin location, age, and more, I wondered how each defined this term and how those definitions shifted from artist to artist. Here, three of Lente Kabinet’s acts, from the dub pop psych duo from Los Angeles, Peaking Lights [DJ], to the Philadelphia post punk stylings of Crash Course in Science [live], as well as the multi-aliased Frenchman, Black Zone Wolf Chant [live], went in conversation with me, providing their subjective impressions on a standard set of questions touching upon definitions, approaches, sustainability, and the affect of capital within the artistic space, these three acts each provide a total and complete look into the world’s of the “artist’s artist”.
  3. After the announcement today that The CW’s drama Life Sentence had been canceled after one season, the network’s military drama series, Valor, has met the same fate and will not be returning for a second season. Valor debuted on The CW’s fall 2018 schedule but did not receive a back order. Its first season ended in January 2018, averaging a total of 958,000 viewers and a rating of 0.21 in the Adult 18-49 demo. The CW has so far renewed 11 series for the 2018-2019 television season, including Supernatural, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Jane the Virgin, Black Lightning, The Flash, Supergirl, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Arrow, Riverdale, The 100, and Dynasty, which was actually beat by Valor in the ratings – Dynasty averaged 697,000 total viewers and a .19 in the demo. Valor stars Christina Ochoa (Animal Kingdom), Matt Barr (Sleepy Hollow), Charlie Barnett (Chicago Fire), Corbin Reid (How to Get Away With Murder), W. Trè Davis (Shades of Blue), Nigel Thatch (Selma) and Melissa Roxburgh (Star Trek Beyond). Valor came from CBS Television Studios and Warner Bros. Television and was executive produced Bill Haber (Rizzoli & Isles), Anna Fricke (Being Human), and Kyle Jarrow (Lost Generation) and Michael Robin. The series explored how the boundaries between military discipline and human desire are tested on a US Army base that houses an elite unit of helicopter pilots trained to perform clandestine international and domestic missions. The drama unfolds in the present as well as in flashbacks to a failed mission involving one of the first female pilots in the unit, ultimately uncovering layers of personal and government/military secrets, and leading to a season-long plan to rescue a group of
  4. In leading up to a decision on whether or not to renew the buddy cop series, network FOX and producing partner Warner Bros. Television are currently looking for a replacement for actor Clayne Crawford in the lead role of Martin Riggs if Lethal Weapon is to earn a third season, according to TVLine. This news comes after almost two weeks since Crawford addressed the controversies involving him on set of late, which have included two reprimands, the first involving an angry outburst against an assistant director on an episode, the second involving an on-set accident during an episode he was directing in which an unnamed actor, allegedly co-star Damon Wayans, was injured. In his address, he also apologized to all of the cast members, producers and crew for his behavior and asked for forgiveness in hopes of keeping the show going and working together.
  5. FOX has given a series order to the Mark-Paul Gosselaar (Nobodies) vampire drama The Passage, based on the bestselling book trilogy by Justin Cronin. FOX bought the film rights to the original novel before the work was published, but now they’re planning a small screen project. The Passage, an “epic, character-driven thriller,” stars Gosselaar (Pitch, Franklin & Bash) as federal agent Brad Wolgast, who is charged with protecting a young girl named Amy (Saniyya Sidney) who’s the test subject for a new government virus. According to the official description, the virus “could either cure all disease or cause the downfall of the human race.” In Cronin’s trilogy, the virus triggers an outbreak of vampire-like beings that overrun the planet. The Passage is written by Elizabeth Heldens (Friday Night Lights, Mercy) who will also serve as executive producer alongside film directors Ridley Scott (Alien: Covenant, The Martian) and Matt Reeves (Let Me In, The Batman). The supporting cast includes Vincent Piazza (Boardwalk Empire), Brianne Howey (The Exorcist), Jamie McShane (Bloodline), Caroline Chikezie (The Shannara Chronicles), and Emmanuelle Chriqui (Entourage).

  9. AMC‘s Fear the Walking Dead Episode 4.04, titled “Buried,” explored the day that everything changed when a number of key characters reveal decisions that were made in the past that ultimately lead to the loss of Nick in last week’s episode. As the mystery begins to unfold, a shocking reveal and another death puts one of our characters on a new path. Check out the promo — and a sneak peek — for Fear the Walking Dead Episode 4.05, titled “Laura,” in the player below, as well as some behind-the-scenes looks at Episode 4.04! In last night’s episode, Alicia, Strand, and Luciana decide to share part of their story with Al as she documents them each describing decisions they made on one particular fateful day that they think ended up costing Nick his life. As John and Morgan sit in the front of the SWAT van, Al records the three grieving people who have just lost a friend, a lover, and a brother — his corpse lying between them and Al — and we learn that on that particular day in the past the group decided to fight for their way of life at the stadium. But that choice didn’t come easy. In the past, the group is desperately seeking locations to scavenge that the Vultures, who are still camping outside of the stadium, may not have already picked clean. Splitting up, Strand pairs up with Cole, Nick with Luciana, and Alicia with newcomer Naomi. In the present, Strand tells Al that going on those runs that day was their first mistake. Strand, who has so far tried to keep an emotional distance from Cole, reveals his concern and care for him when they come under attack from some walkers while rummaging through a greenhouse. He tells Cole later that he does have feelings for him, but Cole has no idea who the real Strand is. To prove his point, Strand takes Cole to an abandoned parking lot where he has been stockpiling food and supplies in a car. He tells Cole it’s enough for the two of them and they can leave, essentially abandoning and betraying Madison and the others at the stadium. Cole gets a look at the man Strand is capable of being, and he refuses, just as Strand assumed he would, and drives back to the stadium by himself. In the present, while the four talk in the back, John shares a bit more of his own backstory with Morgan. He tells him that he used to be a cop and he tells a story about an alcoholic he once knew. That alcoholic managed to stay sober for a week after a near-death experience but quickly fell back into the bottle. John then confronts Morgan on whether the man will leave them again. John wants Morgan to meet Laura, the woman he met in the new world and who he is seeking now, and wants her to meet Morgan, too. Morgan explains that he intends to stick around long enough to see Nick buried, but after he’ll go on his way, alone. Catching up with Luciana’s confessional, we learn that she and Nick explored a library. Nick starts gathering books, saying they need to build their own library so that people will have something to stick around for. Luciana realizes that Nick is actually doing it for Charlie, but as we know, since Charlie is the one who ends up shooting Nick dead, they never managed to bring the girl over to their side. A parallel begins to form as we learn that Nick and Luciana, just like Strand, considered leaving the stadium as well. Luciana finds a book of maps and tells Nick they should flip to a random page and wherever it lands, that’s where they’ll go. Luciana tells Al in the present that she “never should’ve opened that book.” As they land on a page, Nick starts to form a plan, telling Luciana that they’re looking at this all wrong. Meanwhile, Alicia and Naomi head to a water park that is littered with bodies of walkers. At the top of a water slide, the two notice that someone had made a fort and they go up to search for any supplies. Naomi reminisces that she once went to a similar water park in the old world with her family and remembers eating churros. After carefully maneuvering up a very slippery, moss-covered slide — which causes Alicia to lose her knife in the pool — they make their way to the fort. They find a shooter’s nest with an AR stocked with ammunition. Suddenly, walkers attack, causing Alicia and Naomi to fall down the slide, but not before Alicia manages to take the long gun barrel with her. In the present, we see that she is still wielding it as a weapon, though she has sharpened it since first getting her hands on it. After an intense battle with some walkers at the bottom of the slide in the pool, Naomi tries to ditch Alicia, but the car is running on empty. Alicia catches up with her and Naomi admits that she doesn’t want to be with a group she’s about to lose anyway. As a handful of characters struggle with the idea of wanting to leave the stadium, knowing that things are looking grim, Madison spots Mel waving to her and she goes down to have a chat with him. Mel reveals that he and Enis — the man Nick later kills — are brothers who lived on a cattle ranch in the country with some other families. After he tells her that some wildfires kicked up in the area, Madison thinks that Mel and Enis tried to convince the others to leave but no one listened. Madison tells Mel that he can join the stadium’s community and work together, and he says his own offer to join the Vultures is still on the table. They each decline, and Mel reveals that he and Enis had actually convinced the other families at the ranch that they could survive the wildfires in the area but they were wrong. Mel and Enis were the only ones who made it out alive, inevitably changing their perspective on what survival means now. As Alicia helps Naomi find gas, Naomi tells her that she used to be a nurse in the ICU and after some time and experience, she quickly learned which people coming in would live and who wouldn’t. She warns Alicia that the stadium isn’t going to last and that she needs to convince Madison of that. In the end, though, all of the characters return to the stadium. Strand brings back his car of supplies and shows it to Madison, claiming he found it with Cole on the run. Nick and Luciana come back with the book of maps, and Nick tells his mom that he found a location on the map for them to scavenge where they can get seeds and fertilizer to start over, a place where he believes the Vultures haven’t ventured out to. When Alicia and Naomi return, they take Madison aside and we learn that after finding some medical supplies on their run, Alicia convinced Naomi to come back and to start an infirmary. While everyone in the past agrees to stay and fight for their lives at the stadium, in the present, Alicia, Strand, and Luciana say that they should have talked Madison into leaving. After their confessionals on the day that everything changed, without revealing yet what came right after, John stops the van at the burial site for Nick. However, he, Morgan, and Al learn that the others weren’t being entirely honest. They had John drive them to a secret stash of weapons and ammunition they dig up in order to seek revenge on the Vultures. They tell Al that they no longer need her help finding the Vultures because they found a paper on Enis’ body that revealed their meet-up location. They ask Al to join them and help them if she really wants to see how their story ends, but John asks Al to help him find Laura instead. She eventually chooses to go with the vengeful trio, unable to resist learning the rest of their story. Before they take off for revenge, Morgan makes them bury Nick and pay their final respects. After Morgan places a bluebonnet on Nick’s grave, he and John watch as the others load up the SWAT van with all of the supplies they’ve just dug up. John spots a familiar backpack and grabs it, saying that it belonged to Laura. He rifles through it, finding his matching white-handled revolver with his initials J.D. carved into the handle, confirming that it was Laura’s pack. In a surprising twist, it’s revealed that Naomi is Laura, but in an even more shocking turn of events, Alicia tells John bluntly that Naomi is dead. According to Luciana, Naomi didn’t make it out of the stadium. John, trapped between denial and grief, declines to join the others in revenge. Morgan decides to stay with John and tells Al to go. Al promises to find out what happened to Naomi and says she’ll come back for them. As the group drives away, Morgan and John stand on the dark road as John tells Morgan that he was right about how being on your own is better. The promo for next Sunday’s episode, airing on May 13, takes us into John’s past covering the time when he and Naomi, or Laura, first met and how her arrival forced him to change his ways.

Goldberg spent weeks trying to secure. “I truly think Rick Moranis gave the most underrated and brilliant comedic performance in any ‘80s movie as Dark Helmet,” Goldberg said in a statement. “I’ve been a lifelong fan of his work and became obsessed with having him reprise the role on my show. As an added bonus, maybe this even gets ‘Spaceballs’ back in the conversation, and I can get my dream of helping make a sequel!” Launched in 2013 and based on Goldberg’s childhood, The Goldbergs stars Wendi McLendon-Covey, Jeff Garlin, Sean Giambrone, Troy Gentile, Hayley Orrantia, George Segal, AJ Michalka and Sam Lerner, with narration by Patton Oswalt. Moranis will reprise the role in Adam’s (Sean Giambrone) dreams as he “encounters Dark Helmet storming his bedroom to battle with the Schwartz.” The episode is set to air tomorrow night in the May 9 episode at 8pm ET/PT.

  21. Hulu has given a 10-episode series order to the horror project Light as a Feather. According to TVLine, the series is an adaptation of Zoe Aarsen’s story, Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board, which was originally published on the social networking site Wattpad. The drama follows five teenage girls who play a seemingly innocent game of Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board at a sleepover birthday party. But when the players start dying off in the exact way the game predicted, the survivors are forced to figure out why they’re being targeted – and whether the evil force hunting them down is one of their own. Aarsen has written two more books in the Light as a Feather series — Light as a Feather, Cold as Marble and Light as a Feather, Silent as the Grave — and the first in the trilogy is described as follows: McKenna Brady thinks her junior year of high school is going to be the best ever when she’s welcomed into the elite group of popular girls at Weeping Willow High School led by blond, gorgeous Olivia Richmond. Prior to junior year, McKenna was known in her small town as the girl whose twin sister died in a tragic house fire, and she’s overjoyed at the prospect of redefining her identity. She has a date to the Homecoming dance with Olivia’s handsome older brother, and a good chance of being elected to student council. For the first time since McKenna’s parents divorced, things are looking up. But everything changes the night of Olivia’s Sweet Sixteen sleepover birthday party. Violet, the shy, mysterious new girl in town, suggests that the girls play a scary game called Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board, during which Violet makes up elaborate stories about the future ways in which beautiful Olivia, brassy Candace, and athletic Mischa will die. The game unsettles McKenna because she’s already escaped death once in her life, but she doesn’t want to ruin her friends’ fun. It’s only a game, she reminds herself. But it doesn’t seem like a harmless game a week later when Olivia dies unexpectedly in a violent car crash, exactly as Violet predicted. And something begins haunting McKenna’s bedroom at night, leaving her clues that all seem to point to Violet. McKenna enlists the help of her cute next-door neighbor Trey in finding out exactly what kind of curse Violet has put on all of the popular girls in the junior class. As Violet rises to popularity and seemingly steps into the life Olivia left unfinished, McKenna and Trey know they only have a limited amount of time to bring an end to Violet’s game before more lives are lost. Production on Light as a Feather is set to begin in June

  23. Lucy Hale (Pretty Little Liars, Truth or Dare) has confirmed that her drama series, Life Sentence, has been canceled at The CW. The season one finale, now serving as the series finale, is slated to air on Friday, June 15. Hale left a message on Twitter discussing the cancellation of the series and her feelings about the show: “Just got the sad news that Life Sentence will not be coming back for a second season. I was emotionally attached to this story and to everyone involved so I’m a little shell-shocked right now, but I feel fortunate that we got to tell a really beautiful story. Sometimes things don’t resonate with the audience and shows just don’t work, but I’m so proud of what we accomplished & for the experience I had. Life Sentence was a show that a lot of us needed and I am beyond grateful for those who gave our show a chance. Somewhere in the universe the Abbotts will continue their dysfunctional lives & Stella will continue to be a manic pixie dream girl. That chapter is closing before I want it to, but taking this as a life lesson. Things don’t always work out in our favor & it’s up to us what we do with it. It’s been a helluva last year for me and I want to give a huge thank you to the support I’ve been shown! Love love love to all of you. We created something important and pure an no cancellation can take that away.” Life Sentence follows Stella Abbott (Hale), a young woman dying of cancer who learns that she’s cured and must now face the reality of all the problems her family hid from her during her illness. The cast also includes Elliot Knight (American Gothic), Dylan Walsh (Unforgettable, Nip/Tuck), Gillian Vigman (New Girl), Brooke Lyons (iZombie), Carlos PenaVega (Grease: Live), and Jayson Blair (Young & Hungry). The show — from creators Erin Cardillo and Richard Keith (Significant Mother) and executive producer Bill Lawrence (Cougar Town) — premiered on Wednesday, March 7, before being bumped to Friday nights in late April. Life Sentence is currently averaging fewer than 500,000 total viewers along with a 0.15 demo rating.
