  6. Meek Mill and Prime Video announce a six-part documentary series that will follow Meek and his fight for exoneration while exposing flaws in the US criminal justice system. In collaboration with Meek and executive producers Shawn Carter, Eli Holzman, Aaron Saidman, Paul and Isaac Solotaroff, and produced by Roc Nation and The Intellectual Property Corporation (IPC), the series will give viewers unprecedented access to the star’s life, career, and criminal justice odyssey, while demonstrating the negative effects long tail probation is having on urban communities of colour. The series is expected to premiere in 2019 exclusively on Prime Video in more than 200 countries and territories. Meek Mill commented: “I’m grateful for this unique opportunity to share my story and I look forward to collaborating with Amazon Prime Video, Roc Nation and The Intellectual Property Corporation on this incredible series. Not only will this documentary give viewers an unprecedented look at my life, but it will also allow me to use my public platform to highlight the need for criminal justice reform.” “We’re thrilled to be working with such a talented group of producers to bring Meek’s life story to light,” said Heather Schuster, Head of Unscripted, Amazon Originals. “Meek’s story of being incarcerated needs to be told and we will have incredible access that takes Prime members beyond the headlines and into his world.” “Every day of Meek’s adult life has been lived under the threat of incarceration, if not actually behind bars,” said Eli Holzman, CEO of IPC. “With our partners at Roc Nation and the incredible team at Amazon Studios, we are privileged to take on the responsibility of crafting the definitive documentary on Meek’s story, the corrupt system he continues to navigate to ensure his freedom, and the larger issue of long-tail probation in our country. Hopefully Meek and the millions like him won’t have to wait for justice much longer." In November 2017, Meek Mill, born Robert Rihmeek Williams, was sent to county lockup for two to four years after he was captured popping a wheelie in an Instagram video. It was the third time Judge Genece Brinkley sent Meek to prison for violating his probation. But this latest sentencing caused widespread outrage as being too severe and triggered a series of investigations, which will be explored in this documentary series. Many advocates see Meek’s sentence as evidence of the inequalities in the US criminal justice system where African-Americans are incarcerated at nearly six times the rate of whites. This explosive investigative series will follow Meek and his supporters as they attempt to uncover the different facets of corruption that kept him under the thumb of Philadelphia’s criminal justice system for over a decade, while revealing his life post incarceration. Each hour-long episode unravels Meek’s past - from the childhood trauma that shaped him as an artist, to the vast conspiracy behind his latest imprisonment - while following present day developments in his legal battle, personal life, and music career. The series will also feature Meek’s original music. The series is produced by The Intellectual Property Corporation in partnership with Roc Nation, investigative journalist Paul Solotaroff, and documentary filmmaker Isaac Solotaroff. For IPC the executive producers are Holzman and Saidman.
  7. Taylor Swift surprised an eight-year-old fan in hospital after she was unable to go to one of the singer's concerts. Isabella McCune hoped to see the Shake It Off hitmaker kick off her Reputation tour in Arizona on Tuesday (08May18), but after suffering severe burns in an accident in March, the youngster was told she's unable to leave the hospital due to her injuries. The eight-year-old recorded a video to Taylor earlier this month, and credited the singer for helping her to get through treatment for her injuries. Isabella also asked Taylor to stop by the Arizona Burn Center in Phoenix before her opening tour date at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale. "I heard you were here, and I wanted to visit you but maybe you can come and visit me. So maybe that can happen," Isabella said in the video. Just days after the plea was made, the 28-year-old singer took a break from her tour rehearsals and arrived at the hospital to surprise her biggest fan. She posed for photos with Isabella, her parents and brother Zachary, and also treated the youngster to a big bag of merchandise from her tour. “Taylor took time out of her busy, busy schedule and sat down on the bed next to Isabella,” her mother, Lilly McCune, told People. “She said she had to meet her because she was so inspired by her story and honoured that her music helped her.” Isabella has undergone 11 operations, including skin grafting on 50 per cent of her body, after she was severely burned in a fire pit explosion on St Patrick's Day (17Mar18). Lilly also revealed that the singer brought along her parents on her hospital visit, and invited Isabella to attend any of Taylor's tour dates once she was better. "(Isabella) was so shocked! She was speechless. She was so happy,” she said. “(Taylor's) parents came too and they were the sweetest people, and it meant so much to my husband and me as parents. We have so much respect for them and how they raised her.” And when Taylor left the hospital, she gave Isabella a lasting gift. “When she was leaving, my daughter asked for a hug and Taylor turned around and said, ‘Absolutely - I didn’t want to hurt you,'” Lilly said. “They hugged and it was so heartfelt. I knew it meant a lot to Isabella.”
  8. The Spice Girls are heading for another reunion this week (beg07May18), according to singer Mel B. The Wannabe hitmakers stunned fans earlier this year (18), when all five came together for a business brunch meeting at Geri Horner's home in Britain to discuss their legacy and a few new projects. The girls never discussed what was being planned, but Victoria Beckham has shot down rumours of new music and a world tour. And now another meeting has been set up, with Mel B sharing a throwback photo to the group's 1997 Rolling Stone magazine cover shot on social media and adding the caption: "Can't wait to see my girls next week yipppeeee #girlpower #friendshipneverends..." The bandmates are rumoured to be voicing characters based on themselves in an upcoming animated movie, while reports suggest there are also plans for the quintet to launch a global TV talent show to seek out a new girl power band. Meanwhile, Mel B and her ex-husband Stephen Belafonte have reportedly been hit with a tax demand to the tune of over $274,000 (GBP202,000). Last month (Apr18), officials at the State of California's tax board filed a lien against the Spice Girls star and the producer, accusing them of owing back taxes from 2016, according to The Blast. The tax woes will bring the feuding ex-couple back together as they battle for custody of their biological daughter and Mel's child from her fling with Eddie Murphy, who Belafonte helped raise. The pair divorced last year (17), but they're still fighting in court.
  9. Rita Ora has slammed new reports suggesting she was the inspiration behind the "Becky with the good hair" line in Beyonce's cheating track Sorry. The singer previously shot down rumours of an alleged affair with JAY-Z that rocked his marriage, and now she's fighting the claims all over again. And, as fans continue to question who the mysterious Becky is in Beyonce's tune, Ora's name has come to the forefront again. In a new interview with Britain's Sunday Times, Rita insisted there was no affair with her former record boss, and she's not Becky, joking, "If I were Becky with the good hair, wouldn't I actually have to have good hair? Look at it. It's all weave and extensions." And she suggested she has far too much respect for Beyonce to even consider stealing her man: "Nobody can ever say anything wrong about that woman in front of me. I get emotional just talking about it." Rita formed a close bond with JAY-Z when she was signed to his Roc Nation record label a decade ago, but she has since quit the company and teamed up with bosses at Atlantic Records. In the interview, the Anywhere singer suggested the feud with Roc Nation may have been different if she were a man. "I want to find the right word here, and maybe this is my interpretation, but I do feel I got discriminated against because I was a woman," she mused. "I almost felt - maybe this is just my interpretation - I could have had a better chance if I’d been male." While she's back on civil terms with JAY-Z, calling him "very cordial" when she bumped into him recently, she's now made her older sister Elena her business manager - with the pair sharing similar views of how they see her future in the industry. "To be honest, I’d always wanted to become a household name (not just a pop singer), that was my dream,” she explained. "My sister and I, we argue like crazy all the time, but we’re very proud of what we’ve done up to this point."
  10. JAY-Z's mum Gloria Carter thanked her family for supporting her after she came out as gay during her acceptance speech at the GLAAD Media Awards. The rapper's mum was chosen as the recipient of the Special Recognition Award by officials of the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) for coming out publicly as a lesbian on her son's track Smile last year (17). She picked up the honour in New York City on Saturday (05May18) and praised her nearest and dearest for their support in a moving acceptance speech. "I accept it with pride and joy on behalf of my son and myself. Thanks to my family for loving me unconditionally, no matter what," she said. "Thanks to my partner, for loving me and helping me free myself from being in the shadows. Thanks to you, to all the people whose lives I touched, for your support, by just telling my truth." She explained that Smile, in which JAY-Z raps, "Mama had four kids, but she's a lesbian", came about because she finally spoke to her son about her sexuality - even though other people already knew. "This was the first time that I spoke to anyone about who I really am. My son cried and said, 'It must have been horrible to live that way for so long'... My life wasn't horrible, I chose to protect my family from ignorance. I was happy but I was not free," she continued. Gloria recalled how she met someone who made her "heart sing" and it gave her the courage to reveal her secret "that wasn't really a secret." "Here I am, I'm loving, I'm respectful, I'm productive, and I'm a human being who has a right to love who I love. So everybody, just smile, be free. Thank you, and God bless," she concluded. Other winners at the Media Awards included Ava DuVernay, who took home the Excellence in Media Award and Samira Wiley, who won the Vito Russo Award. Meanwhile, Call Me By Your Name was named Outstanding Film and Halsey was honoured with the Outstanding Music Artist gong.
  11. Adam Levine's eldest daughter Dusty is "obsessed" with her new sister Gio. The Maroon 5 frontman and model wife Behati Prinsloo welcomed their second daughter into the world in February (18), and are getting used to life as a family of four. And while some parents worry about how their first-born will react to a new arrival, Adam admitted during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Monday (07May18) that 19-month-old Dusty is loving every second of being a big sister. "She's obsessed with Gio, to the point where every morning when she wakes up the first thing she says is, 'Gio, Gio, Gio', and runs into her room - it's really cute. She's totally in love with her," he smiled. However, Dusty hasn't quite grasped the concept of her little sister being somewhat fragile. "She's a little rough with her because she doesn't understand that thing yet, so she'll get in her face and do crazy stuff but it's just so much fun," Adam laughed. "Being a dad is the most fun thing on the planet." The family have a few exciting weeks coming up - with Behati's 29th birthday on 16 May, and Maroon 5's Red Pill Blues Tour kicking off later this month. Behati, Dusty and Gio will be joining Adam on the road for the tour - a prospect he's unsure about but also looking forward to. "I always thought of tours as a bunch of dudes in bunks and it's (like a) sleep-away camp, but now it's going to turn into a totally different thing, so I'm going to have to figure that out - I've never had to think about that," he mused. "So we're probably going to have to have a family bus or something. It will be strange. But yeah, it's going to be fun, touring with the kids is going to be fun because it's an amazing experience for them - they get to see the world."
  12. Rapper Meek Mill is reportedly back to work following his release from prison. The Dreams and Nightmares hitmaker, real name Robert Williams, walked free from jail last month (Apr18) after lawmakers in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania overturned a judge's decision to keep him locked up for violating his probation linked to a crime he committed in 2008. Meek will return to court in June (18), but he is reportedly focused on his music and over the weekend (05-06May18) he returned to a recording studio in Miami, Florida for the first time since his release. “He got permission to fly down to Miami for work, to go into the studio," a source tells the New York Post's Page Six. "I’m sure he’s got a lot to say.” According to TMZ, Meek also celebrated his 31st birthday on Sunday (06May18) at Komodo in Miami, but he is expected to return to Philadelphia to attend the Philadelphia 76ers basketball game on Monday. In addition to recording new music, Williams has also been using his time to speak out in support of criminal justice reform in the U.S. He appeared alongside Governor Tom Wolf at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia last week (ends04May17) to encourage lawmakers to overhaul the prison system for minor drug offenders and focus on rehabilitation. He is also fronting a six-part documentary revolving around his legal issues and the high incarceration rates among people of colour. It is being produced by bosses at JAY-Z's new Roc Nation TV division for Amazon, and is slated to premiere next year (19).

  14. Pop star Jordin Sparks' husband panicked as he helped to deliver the couple's son as the umbilical cord was wrapped around the baby's neck. The No Air hitmaker gave birth to her son, Dana Isaiah Thomas Jr., last Wednesday (02May18) at the Natural Birth Center & Women's Wellness in Los Angeles, where her husband, model Dana Isaiah, helped to deliver the boy. However, Jordin reveals there was a slight complication they hadn't been prepared for. "(The baby's) umbilical cord was wrapped around (his) neck twice," the new mum explained to People.com. "I didn't see it because I was facing the other way." Jordin's man had no idea what to do, but luckily the couple's midwife, Simona, was on hand to jump into action. "He (Dana Sr.) said it almost looked like a scarf - it was wrapped around his neck and bod (sic)," the star shared. "(Simona) got (the umbilical cord) off really quickly, then he (the baby) was good to go. (He) took his first breath and then (Dana Sr.) handed him to me." Recalling the moment she first held her son, the singer/actress smiled, "It was just this incredibly miraculous, beautiful moment that I don't know could ever be duplicated or replicated. Like, you see it in movies, how emotional people get, but until you are actually sitting there, it's beyond anything I've ever felt in my life." Jordin returned to the red carpet just three days later, as she celebrated the Los Angeles premiere of her new film, Show Dogs, on Saturday (05May18), and she can't stop gushing about parenthood. "Everything changed, but almost nothing either, because this is what I was meant to do," she said. "I was meant to bring him into this world, and to be his mum." The child is Jordin's first with Dana Sr. The couple went public with its relationship in July (17), and eloped while on vacation in Hawaii later that month, but kept the news a secret until November, when Jordin and Dana Sr. announced they were married and expecting.
