  1. Dil Juunglee Movie Review Rating: 1/5 Star (One Star) Star Cast: Taapsee Pannu, Saqib Saleem, Nidhi Singh. Director: Aleya Sen Dil Juunglee Movie Review What’s Good: Taapsee and Saqib’s fresh pair & the way they portray it, Nidhi Singh’s outrageous yet entertaining presence. What’s Bad: Everything apart from what’s mentioned in ‘What’s Good’. Loo Break: That’s the best thing about this film, you can leave it anytime midway, all you’ll miss will be just some another uncalled for sequences. Watch or Not?: Watch only if you’ve haven’t seen a bad rom-com since long time, this could be the one. User Rating: 21 Votes Dil Juunglee is a confused and cliched love story of a girl who has this fear of staying single forever. Her name is as strange as her thoughts, Koroli (Taapsee Pannu) and she is the underwritten desi version of Ginnifer Goodwin from He’s Just Not That Into You. She meets Sumit Uppal (Saqib Saleem) who is an aspiring writer struggling his way to get into Bollywood. They both plan to get married rescuing away from their parents as the girl is Manglik (Story writer, was that even necessary?). They face an uninvited trekking trip on the way where differences start brewing between them. When Koroli thinks everything is a fairy tale between them, her love story takes a u-turn. Rest of the story is all about whether or not they’ll come back and if yes, what will bring them together. (How many times we’ve been through this route?) Dil Juunglee Movie Review Dil Juunglee Movie Review: Script Analysis The script is penned by the director herself and is the biggest reason why this movie will remain a trashy rom-com for me. First of all, many sequences are half-baked and are never explained properly. For example, we never got to know the reason why Taapsee is so disdained by her father and because of this you never feel for the characters. The love track between them, though cute, never gets fully utilized as both get on and off from each other for the entire film. The second half of the film takes a leap of 7 years and gets shifted to London all of a sudden. Though the movie is of just 2 hours, after a point of time I got so bored I was listening songs with my earphones on. If you watch the movie, please tell me did I miss something important, I’ll revise my rating if I did (Caution: I’m not advising anyone to watch the movie). Also, honestly, this also is one of those movies which you try hard to like but it breaks your heart in the end. Dil Juunglee Movie Review: Star Performance Saqib Saleem as an aspiring actor come in as too loud and tumultuous. He surely is charming and makes a great pair with Taapsee but his character is very lousily written. His comic timing is good at times but unfortunately because of the script he never gets any chance to shine. Taapsee Pannu, though looked cute in her glasses, also fails to rise over the abysmal script. She plays the role of a loner and still did not evoke any emotion in any single scene. You know the film is really bad when you waste a talent like Taapsee Pannu. Nidhi Singh surprises with her little-extended appearance. She’s loud and entertaining and has worked a lot on her accent. The only silver lining of this dark could. Dil Juunglee Movie Review: Direction, Music Coincidentally two of three movies this week have two debutante directors and both are from ad background – Arjun Mukherjee (3 Storeys) and Aleya Sen (Dil Juunglee). The direction is average and could’ve been better with a good story but the damage was already done. Apart from Dil Jaane Naa, Bandeya not a single song leaves any impact. Background score is passable too and doesn’t help in many anything better for the film. Dil Juunglee Movie Review: The Last Word All said and done, Dil Juunglee is one of those films you give someone a dare to watch. Sad for Saqib Saleem, Taapsee Pannu, and Nidhi Singh – they could’ve done so much better. Skip this one and thank me later! One Star!
  2. Hate Story IV has taken a fair opening at the Box Office, what with 3.76 crore coming in. The numbers are actually fine for this genre which has seen diminishing audience, especially during last one year. Since the budget of the film is controlled, even sustained collections during the weekend would be reasonable enough to take it past the safety mark. Outside of the Hate Story franchise, director Vishal Pandya’s last release Wajah Tum Ho had collected 2.86 crore on its opening day and Hate Story IV numbers are better than that. Box Office – Hate Story IV, Dil Juunglee and 3 Storeys – First day collections Dil Juunglee was much lower and the collections were under the 50 lacs* mark. Romcoms have traditionally not been collecting much at the Box Office and the multiplex audience for the genre has reduced as well. While the film does feature Taapsee Pannu in the lead who had managed to pull off much better numbers with Naam Shabana and Pink (albeit with support from Akshay Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan), one now waits to see how the film sees a turn for the better over the weekend. 3 Storeys was always meant to be a low affair as far as its opening was concerned and word of mouth was meant to play a major role in the footfalls registered. The film’s promo did give an impression of being an intriguing drama but still the look and feel was on the lines of festival cinema. The opening day numbers have stayed under the 50 lacs mark as well and though there hasn’t been much visibility around the film, it would now boil down to critical acclaim and audience feedback to better its prospects.
  3. Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety has been ruling the box office since it’s release. The movie has been unstoppable at the box office because of its amazing reviews and word of mouth promotions. The movie is in its 3rd week now and it stands with a total of 77.98 crores at the box office. The film starring Nushrat Bharucha, Kartik Aaryan, and Sunny Singh is flying high at the box office. By looking at the success of the film, we can definitely say that these actors have worked hard for this one. Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety Box Office Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety is Luv Ranjan’s fourth film with Kartik Aaryan and Nusrat Bharucha, after Pyaar Ka Punchnama, Akaash Vani and Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2, which also starred Sunny Singh. Let’s take a look at the overall collections of the movie: Week 1: 45.94 Cr Week 2: 29.77 Cr Week 3 (Friday): 02.27 Cr Total: 77.98 Cr
  4. BBC One is teaming up with New Line and former Doctor Who producers, Julie Gardner and Jane Tranter, to make an initial eight-part series adaptation of Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy, perhaps better known by The Golden Compass (Northern Lights, in the U.K.), The Subtle Knife, and the Amber Spyglass. The latest news? According to Deadline, Logan star Dafne Keen has been cast as Lyra in the TV adaptation, with Lin-Manuel Miranda cast as Lee Scoresby. This is... excellent casting. The article also reports that Les Miserables director Tom Hooper has signed on to direct the series. His Dark Materials TV Show Cast The repetition of Dafne Keen as Lyra and Lin-Manuel Miranda as Lyra and Lee, respectively, seems to bear repeating. What about the original Lyra? When the His Dark Materials TV show was announced back in 2015, Dakota Blue Richards, the actress who played Lyra in the 2007 film The Golden Compass, announced via Twitter that she "would so love to be part of" the new adaptation. In January, she spoke with Digital Spy, to elaborate on what that might mean... In some ways, I wish I'd never said anything about it. I'm wary of what I say about it, because I don't want to give the impression that I am [in it] and then I'm not ... There's been talk, but it's out of my hands, really. I'd love it, but I'm not holding out for it. If it does happen great and if it doesn't happen, I've got my own stuff going on ... I can't imagine that they'd actually want me involved. I think they want very much to do their own thing, which is understandable. If I was in their position, I would probably feel that way too. That being said, it was a very long time ago and I don't feel like I'm the same person now — so personally, I don't see any reason why I couldn't be at least considered for any of those roles, just in my own right as an actor. But also know that a lot of people see me as 'the girl from The Golden Compass' and as great an experience as that was, that's always something that will be hanging over me throughout my career. Richards is very gracious about the whole thing. It seems worth noting that Richards had a starring role on Skins as Franky in the third generation, though Jack Thorne, who is penning the His Dark Materials TV show, wasn't on the writing staff at that time. His Dark Materials TV Show Release Date Producer Jane Tranter plans for pre-production on the series to start this autumn, but there is no current start date for the show. His Dark Materials writer Jack Thorne spoke to Radio Times last month about where the TV show is currently at, saying: "It’s at an exciting point where we’re just throwing things at the page and trying to work out what works and what doesn’t." Thorne also said that whether or not there will be major changes from the book is "not something I can tell you about yet," though the narrative room a TV show gives the story as compared to the feature film would allow more of the source material to be presented. (Notably, the feature film changed the ending of the first book. It was a terrible decision, completely gutting the thematic power of the book.) Thorne elaborated: I mean, the most important thing is being loyal to the books, and trying to tell those books as well as we possibly can,” he said ... The advantage of television is we can slow down. In the film and on stage they had so much plot to get through, so much plot to churn through, whereas we’ve got the luxury of having time to get to know [lead character] Lyra, and spend time in her world. His Dark Materials TV Show Writers Last November, Variety reported that the new His Dark Materials series will be produced in Wales, and marks the first commission from Gardner and Tranter's production company, Bad Wolf, as well as New Line's first foray into UK television. The adaptation will be penned by Jack Thorne, the man behind the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child play and the upcoming Star Wars: Episode IX script, as well as The Fades, The Last Panthers, and the This is England TV series. (Learn more about Thorne's previous work, here.) Sufficed to say, Thorne has experience successfully adapting other people's work in original and satisfying ways. Thorne released a statement on what drew him to the adaptation that certainly gives fans of the book hope that the trilogy will be adapted in a way that capture the imagination and darkness of the stories better than the 2007 New Line effort did: It is such an honor and a privilege to be given this opportunity to delve into Philip Pullman's world. What I always loved about Bad Wolf's intentions with this project was the notion of sounding every note. The His Dark Materials trilogy are vast and glorious books full of beautiful characters and I'm going to work as hard as I can to try and do justice to them. Pullman's trilogy, comprising The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife, and The Amber Spyglass, takes place in a universe of "daemons," polar-bear warriors, witches, magical instruments, and theological philosophy. It's previously been adapted for film, radio and theatre, but this will be the first TV version of the world of its singular hero, Lyra Belacqua. Philip Pullman had this to say: In recent years we've seen how long stories on television, whether adaptations (Game of Thrones) or original (The Sopranos, The Wire), can reach depths of characterization and heights of suspense by taking the time for events to make their proper impact and for consequences to unravel. And the sheer talent now working in the world of long-form television is formidable. For all those reasons I'm delighted at the prospect of a television version of His Dark Materials. I’m especially pleased at the involvement of Jane Tranter, whose experience, imagination, and drive are second to none. As for the BBC, it has no stronger supporter than me. I couldn't be more pleased with this news. His Dark Materials TV Show Episode Guide The first series will comprise eight episodes, with the expectation to continue into further series. In fact, a report from Walesonline states that: "The deal will see forty episodes shot across five series." This suggests that a multi-series deal has been reached to tell the entirety of Pullman's story. Sounds great to us. His Dark Materials Synopsis Here's the official His Dark Materials synopsis from the BBC... His Dark Materials is one of the supreme works of imaginative fiction for both children and adults published in the 20th century. Northern Lights [The Golden Compass, in the U.S.] introduces Lyra, an orphan, who lives in a parallel universe in which science, theology and magic are entwined. Lyra's search for a kidnapped friend uncovers a sinister plot involving stolen children, and turns into a quest to understand a mysterious phenomenon called Dust. In The Subtle Knife she is joined on her journey by Will, a boy who possesses a knife that can cut windows between worlds. As Lyra learns the truth about her parents and her prophesied destiny, the two young people are caught up in a war against celestial powers that ranges across many worlds and leads to a thrilling conclusion in The Amber Spyglass.
  5. PHILIP Pullman's new series, His Dark Materials, is set to air on the BBC. It promises to be an epic show, but who's in the cast, who's playing Lyra Belacqua, and when does it start? Let's get the lowdown. Dafne Keen takes on the role of Lyra Belacqua When does His Dark Materials start on BBC? His Dark Materials - which has already become a cult phenomenon for millions of readers around the world - is yet to be given a transmission date, but it's expected to start airing later this year. The series will be based on the trilogy of fantasy novels - which consists of Northern Lights, The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass. The series follows Lyra Belacqua as she travels through various parallel universes, meeting a host of fantastical creatures including witches and armoured polar bears. The BBC's official synopsis for the series states: "Northern Lights introduces Lyra, an orphan, who lives in a parallel universe in which science, theology and magic are entwined. Lyra's search for a kidnapped friend uncovers a sinister plot involving stolen children, and turns into a quest to understand a mysterious phenomenon called Dust. "In The Subtle Knife she is joined on her journey by Will, a boy who possesses a knife that can cut windows between worlds. As Lyra learns the truth about her parents and her prophesied destiny, the two young people are caught up in a war against celestial powers that ranges across many worlds and leads to a thrilling conclusion in The Amber Spyglass." Dafne Keen is one of the few confirmed stars of the series.
  6. Is there Dust in the air or is it just me? The latest news about the BBC’s long-gestating His Dark Materials TV mini-series adaptation nearly brought tears of joys to this fan’s eye. According to Deadline, The King’s Speech director Tom Hooper and Logan star Dafne Keen have signed on to the adaptation of Philip Pullman’s critically acclaimed His Dark Material novels for BBC One. Hooper will helm the series and Keen will play the lead role of Lyra Belacqua. The Daily Mail‘s Baz Bamigboye also claims that Hamilton‘s Lin Manuel-Miranda has joined the cast as the hot air balloon-piloting aeronaut Lee Scoresby. The series, produced by Doctor Who veterans Jane Tranter and Julie Gardner of Bad Wolf, will run for eight episodes and was written by National Treasure scribe Jack Thorne. The series, first announced in 2015, is expected to commence production in wales in the near future, which means that further casting details are inevitable. For those of you who haven’t read one of the greatest book series of all time, His Dark Materials is comprised of a trilogy of fantasy novels: Northern Lights (also known as The Golden Compass), The Subtle Knife, and The Amber Spyglass. The first novel in the series, Northern Lights, was published in 1995, and tells a sprawling coming-of-age story of two children–Lyra and Will, who find themselves caught up in a wild, harrowing adventure that takes them across space and time into parallel universes. The trilogy offers up a heady blend of theoretical physics, philosophy, theological pontification, as well as some truly wild stuff like armored bears, flying witch covens, and a knife capable of cutting through subatomic particles. In other words, it gives you a lot more to chew on than most young adult literature. Stay tuned to Nerdist for even more on this mini-series as it develops and thank your lucky stars that we’ll finally have something to wash the taste of that truly abysmal movie adaptation out of our mouths once and for all. In the meantime, why not read Pullman’s new sidequel novel in the His Dark Materials universe, The Book of Dust?
  7. A six-episode series about the 1990 Scandinavian Star ferry disaster will be produced, in a collaboration between Nordisk Film and Danish Documentary, it was announced in a press statement on Friday. The series will tell the story of the ferry accident as the focus of a Scandinavian modern history spanning three decades. It is expected to be broadcasted by state broadcasters DR, NRK and SVT in the three Scandinavian countries - Denmark, Norway and Sweden respectively - in 2020. That year marks the thirtieth anniversary of the disaster, which occurred on the night of April 7th, 1990. 159 people of the ferry's 383 passengers and 99 crew died after a fire broke out on the ship, which was en route from Oslo to Frederikshavn. Many of the passengers were on their way from Norway to Denmark for the Easter holidays. Information later emerged revealing sub-standard safety aboard the ship and that the fire had been set deliberately. The case remains unsolved today. The television series will shed light on the incident, with producers describing it as 'Scandinavia's biggest murder mystery'. Personal stories of survivors and families of the victims will be an important element of the series, as will attempts by authorities to investigate the case, political intrigue and three decades of speculation over passengers, crew, and the ship's owners and insurers. Politiken journalist Lars Halskov, who wrote the well-received book Branden - GĂĽden om Scandinavian Star (Fire: the Scandinavian Star Mystery) has been brought in to work on the series, as have documentary director Mikala Krogh and script writer Nikolaj Scherfig, known for his work on popular crime series The Bridge.
  8. Netflix aims to offer as much as possible to its members and in so doing, the streamer’s vast variety of series, films and documentaries has been the subject of many an article. With an $8 billion content budget this year, Netflix is consistently adding new original and licensed titles from around the world into the mix. In an effort to keep the appetites of binge-watchers satiated, and for planning purposes, Santa Monica-based digital media company TV Time polled its more than 12 million registered users, averaging in age from 17- to 34-years-old, and ranked the most followed Netflix foreign language shows from its community. Millions of TV viewers from around the world use the TV Time app to track their favorite shows and connect with other fans. To date, the TV Time community has tracked more than 7 billion episodes of TV and users check into the app more than 37 million times per month to track and react to their favorite TV shows. Based on the data from tens of millions of show-follows for Netflix programming in the TV Time app, these are the top 10 foreign language TV series Netflix members deem as binge-worthy, ranked in order of most follows in the app: 1. La Casa de Papel (Spanish) 2. Dark (German) 3. 3% (Brazil, in Portuguese) 4. Cable Girls (Spanish) 5. Suburra (Italian) 6. Marseille (French) 7. Devilman Crybaby (Japanese Anime) 8. Erased (Japanese) 9. Ingobernable (Spanish) 10. Club de Cuervos (Spanish) Netflix recently announced its expansion into new regions, including the Middle East. One new project is Jinn, a contemporary supernatural thriller about a group of teenagers whose lives are disrupted when a Jinn, in the form of a teenage boy, appears to them in the ancient city of Petra. The six-episode series, expected to launch to all Netflix members globally in 2019, is Netflix’s first Arabic original series from the Middle East and second project in the region. Netflix’s first project, the Arabic stand-up comedy Adel Karam: Live from Beirut, launched March 1st. There are also several new original projects from India, ranging from scary to supernatural, including these recently announced titles: Leila, Ghoul and Crocodile. In addition, there are also 50 new and returning productions in various stages of development this year in Latin America, including Diablero, and 19 stand-up comedy specials. In fact, many of the streaming giant’s most popular shows didn’t originate stateside. With its slate of top-rated international originals, the list of global titles at Netflix is growing quickly, crossing cultures and languages. These shows are proving highly successful to the streaming giant. For example, Netflix's first original German Series Dark has a viewership that is 90% outside of its country of origin, even though the show is in German. In other recent Netflix news, the streamer signed Hasan Minhaj to host a weekly comedy talk show set to debut later this year. Netflix has committed to a 32-episode order, making Minhaj the first Indian-American host of a weekly comedy talk show that will explore the modern cultural and political landscape. Known for his work on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Minhaj earned rave reviews last year for his one-hour Netflix comedy special Hasan Minhaj: Homecoming King and for his performance hosting the 2017 White House Correspondents' Dinner. Here are 12 anticipated international originals coming, and returning, to Netflix soon: 1983 (Netflix just announced its first original series from Poland) The Rain (First original series from Scandinavia) Fauda (Second season of this Israeli series premieres May 24; excluding Israel and France) Paquita Salas (Comedy series from Spain returns for a second season) Elite (Second Spanish series set for 2019) Bardo (From Taiwan, this is the first-ever Chinese-language Netflix series; no premiere date set) Sacred Games (From India, this is the first original series in Hindi-English) Kingdom (First original Korean drama series) Terrace House: Opening New Doors (Original Japanese reality series premieres March 13) Ingobernable (Mexican series returns for Season Two) Edha (First original series from Argentina premieres March 16) The Mechanism (From Brazil, this premieres March 23) The streamer’s efforts to attract a more international audience are paying off. Netflix’s numbers continue to grow year-over-year. Last quarter, Netflix added more than 8.3 million new subscribers (2 million in the U.S. and over 6.3 million internationally). These shows are proof that good storytelling knows no boundaries. Netflix has more than 117 million members spanning 190-plus countries. Members stream more than 140 million hours of TV shows and movies per day, including original series, documentaries and feature films, adding up to more than one billion hours per week.
  9. The 'Infinity War' release date shift not only helps spare audiences from potential spoilers, it also signals Disney is seeking to further capitalize on the 'Black Panther' phenomenon. Further cementing the idea that the summer movie season is no longer confined to the actual season of summer, Marvel surprised a lot of people Thursday by announcing that Avengers: Infinity War would be opening a week earlier than expected in North America, on April 27 instead of May 4. There are, no doubt, a handful of possible reasons that drove this shift: Marvel is still riding the wave of deservedly good publicity for the wildly successful Black Panther, for one. This shift suggests, even more than before, that Marvel is the top dog in the industry and everyone else is running to catch up. Of course, as has become standard for a lot of big-budget fare, Avengers: Infinity War was always slated to open in late April, just not in the United States or Canada. First, the film was going to open in international markets such as India on April 27, before opening elsewhere within the following week. While it’s become the norm, as opposed to an exception, for a studio to internationally stagger the release of a blockbuster, Marvel might have been wary about the unavoidable spread of spoilers. Even those who try their best to avoid plot details might have had a challenging time in the week between when Infinity War opened around the world and when it opened in the States. Opening day-and-date makes the most logical sense (arguably the case for any blockbuster, not just this one); while some people may not be able to see the film on opening day, making it accessible around the world, as opposed to a chunk of the wider audience, is ideal. But more than the fear of spoilers leaking, Marvel must have been driven by the phenomenon of Black Panther. Not six weeks ago, box-office tracking suggested the film might be lucky to have an opening weekend take of $120 million, before doubling that over the four-day President’s Day weekend. While the month of March will offer enough competition from other studios to take T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman) off the top of the chart, Black Panther already represents a resounding creative and financial success. Over the last two weeks, Black Panther has broken box-office records left and right; by the end of this weekend, it will likely have grossed around or above $500 million domestically, and it may well end up making more than The Avengers, the first big team-up with the Marvel superheroes. Marvel’s decision— presented as part of a Twitter thread with Robert Downey, Jr., but no doubt made a few days or weeks ago internally — may have been inspired by a few factors. But Black Panther’s dominant stance at the box office was probably the biggest of all. This, in effect, is awfully similar to what happened with DC after Wonder Woman performed so well with audiences last summer. Justice League was an exceptionally messy film, but the new marketing foregrounded Diana Prince (Gal Gadot), shifting expectations to suggest that it might be more accurately titled Wonder Woman Plus A Few Other Heroes You Might Recognize. Though the Marvel Cinematic Universe is full of much more well liked heroes, don’t be surprised if the new Infinity War ads emphasize the presence of T’Challa, Shuri (Letitia Wright) and other Wakanda favorites. Marvel is also helping push the goalposts of what constitutes the summer-movie season. Though that descriptor has long been elastic — last year alone, movies like Get Out, The Fate of the Furious, and Beauty and the Beast hit big at the box office opening in the early months of the year— placing Avengers: Infinity War in April just allows the studio, and Disney as a whole, to dominate the box office each month of the year. This shift means that Disney will have a major release in 9 of 12 months this year alone, leaving aside the massive dump of release dates they unveiled yesterday through 2023. Marvel’s choice to push Avengers: Infinity War is another way to emphasize to the rest of the competition that they’re unshakable, at least for now. A couple weeks back, a story made the rounds detailing how close Sony came to owning the rights to what we now know as the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With hindsight, we can read this story and laugh at what seems like poor decision-making on the part of the Sony executives who thought owning characters like Iron Man and Black Panther was a waste of money. But 20 years ago, Marvel was far from a sure bet. Now, the tables have turned radically. Now, Marvel can achieve some of its biggest box-office success with a character who had never been as big of an all-audience favorite on the comic book pages as Spider-Man, and they can decide to shake up the release calendar as they like. If that larger calendar of releases is any hint, we can expect a lot more shake-ups in the future if that’s what Marvel and Disney want.
  10. Marvel and Disney recently brought the Avengers: Infinity War release date forward, so the movie is coming out earlier than previously expected. While that's exciting for those of us eager to see Iron Man, Captain America, Black Panther, and the gang take on Thanos, it also means there's less time to get caught up on everything that has happened so far. Watching every MCU movie that has been released thus far sounds like a mammoth task, but since it's all been building up to this, we reckon it's one worth undertaking. To make things a little easier, and to give you the best catch-up experience you could have, GameSpot's very own Dave Jewitt has put together a handy watch order. You might think that you don't need a watch order and that you can simply see them using the order they were released and, yes, you can do that, but there's a better way. Since some events in the MCU take place in parallel or reference each other, there's actually a more ideal chronology. Dave has also done a little extra work and suggested the best Marvel One-Shots to watch too. These are shorter mini-movies that were available as part of the home releases on DVD, Blu-ray, and digitally. While not essential to the overall MCU, they're well worth checking out as they provide a little extra colour to the MCU and some deeper insights into important characters. If you'd prefer to see a list of the movies in Dave's suggested order instead of hearing the lineup delivered in his dulcet tones, take a look below. Captain America: The First Avenger Marvel One Shot: Agent Carter Iron Man The Incredible Hulk Iron Man 2 Marvel One Shot: A Funny Thing Happened on the way to Thor's Hammer Thor Marvel One Shot: The Consultant The Avengers Marvel One Shot: Item 47 Iron Man 3 Marvel One Shot: All Hail The King Thor Dark World Captain America: The Winter Soldier Guardians of the Galaxy Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Avengers: Age of Ultron Ant-Man Captain America: Civil War Black Panther Doctor Strange Spider-Man: Homecoming Thor: Ragnarok Avengers: Infinity War will bring together the MCU to take on Thanos. Along with the core Avengers cast that we know and love, the misfits from Guardians of the Galaxy and characters introduced in Black Panther and Thor: Ragnarok will join the fray, along with a few others. Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters on April 27.
  11. The Marvel Comics adaptation X-Force has been in development at 20th Century Fox since at least as far back as 2013, years before Deadpool finally proved that X-Men spin-offs could be a success. But what exactly is X-Force? Well, as you've already guessed, it's an X-Men spin-off – a team of young mutants who tend to resort to more violent and underhand methods to get things done. The groundwork for this movie will be put in place in Deadpool 2, which will arrive this summer. Here's what you need to know about what will follow. X-Force movie release date © Marvel Comics Fox is yet to announce X-Force's release date. The latest reports claim that the movie will begin shooting in October 2018. The same report claims that three X-Men films will be released in 2019, and the speculation is that X-Force will be one of those. X-Force movie cast © 20th Century Fox Ryan Reynolds is confirmed to star as Wade Wilson – that's Deadpool to you – in the movie. Cable (Josh Brolin) is returning after his Deadpool 2 debut – he's a militaristic, time-travelling mutant cyborg, in case you aren't familiar. © 20th Century Fox The first trailer for Deadpool 2 also revealed that a group that looks a lot like an X-Force iteration (with a bit of the terribly named mercenary group Six Pack thrown in for good measure) will be making an appearance in that movie. It's only an educated guess at this point, but the team appears to consist of GW Bridge (played by Terry Crews), Shatterstar (theorised to be Lewis Tan), and perhaps Garrison Kane. © 20th Century Fox Domino is also there, who is played by Zazie Beetz. Domino is another character with a long history with X-Force, so it would make sense for her to be returning in the movie. She has 'luck powers' that alter probability, which come in pretty handy when it says 'soldier of fortune' at the top of your CV. The film was originally announced in 2013 with Kick-Ass 2 director Jeff Wadlow on board. At some point he dropped off the film and it is now being directed by Cabin in the Woods and Daredevil's Drew Goddard.
  12. Disney's release slate recently was filled with movies all the way up to 2023 with promises of theaters full of Pixar, Disney Animation, live action remakes, and, most important to this list, Marvel movies. Disney has slated seven untitled Marvel movies for the next few years, leaving fans to speculate just what these titles can be. Phase 4 is anyone's game at this point, but there are some key sequels and titles that are certainly making the game. It's important to note that Avengers 4, for whatever reason, is not included on this slate -- even though Avengers: Infinity War is. The untitled Avengers movie hits theaters May 3, 2019. And we have one official Phase 4 movie on the books. Tom Holland's Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 has a release date of July 5, 2019, making this the first movie of Phase 4. While release dates are always subject to change (as we recently were reminded), we do know a few other Phase 4 movies that are definitely coming. The rest is pretty much speculation, and while Marvel likely won't announce these titles until after Avengers 4, that can't stop us from guessing what's in store for the next few years. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Release Date: 7/31/20 Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is the only Phase 4 movie that's but talked about in any definitive terms, with James Gunn returning to write and direct the third movie in one of Marvel's top franchises. We know that the movie is aiming for a 2020 release date, but not the specific date. While Guardians is big enough to open in May (which usually has a high-tier Marvel movie), opening in July isn't a bad spot. Seeing as how Vol. 3 is likely further along in the development process than other projects, it'll hit theaters sooner rather than later. Honestly, I feel like Marvel is hiding a release date for May 2020, which would be an ideal spot for Vol. 3. Black Panther 2 Release Date: 5/7/21 Oh, you better believe a Black Panther sequel is coming. This movie has dominated in just about every single way and Marvel is probably already doing everything they can to schmooze Ryan Coogler back into the director's chair. It's one of the biggest success stories in Marvel's filmography so they aren't going to be sitting on it for long. The typical waiting period between Marvel sequels is usually three years, so 2021 feels right. Putting the movie in May makes sense given how much it made in February, which used to be viewed as a kind of "off-season" for movies. If it did that well in an off-season, imagine what it could do opening the summer.
  13. New week, new Netflix! The streaming service is adding a bunch of film and TV show titles for members to binge, including one of its most anticipated titles of 2018--the next entry in the streamer's Marvel Cinematic Universe collection. March 8, otherwise known as International Women's Day, saw the Season 2 debut of Marvel's Jessica Jones. The series features the return of Krysten Ritter as the titular hero after she last appeared in Marvel's Defenders. According to GameSpot's review of the new season, the story being told is definitely a slow burn. While the premiere episode may not be as exciting as some were hoping for, there will be plenty of momentum in the installments that follow. Another new arrival on Netflix is F the Prom starring Riverdale's Madelaine Petsch. That film is joined by new episodes of David Letterman's My Next Guest Needs No Introduction and The Joel McHale Show with Joel McHale, as well as Netflix originals The Outsider, Nailed It, Ladies First, and Bad Guys: Vile City. You can take a look at everything arriving on the service this week below. You can also see everything coming to and leaving Netflix in March, as well as Hulu and Amazon Prime Video. Still, while streaming has a lot of great shows, it doesn't have them all. Make sure to check out the shows we are most excited to watch this spring. 15. TV reboots of classic films should be approached with great caution. In recent years the US has produced some serious clangers by dredging up well-respected horror films – Scream: The TV series, for example – but well-received remakes of Hannibal and Bates’ Motel have provided enough cause for optimism for studios to continue to roll the dice. The early signs for US Network Fox’s continuation of The Exorcist – which debuted its first season in the US last year, and is coming to Amazon Prime Video in the UK this October – were promising. First and foremost, showrunner Jeremy Slater – one of the writers behind Netflix’s recent Death Note adaptation – made the canny decision not to re-tell the story from William Friedkin’s 1973 original, but to expand upon it with a new tale set in the present day. He then landed a bonafide star in Oscar-winner Geena Davis (Beetlejuice, Thelma & Louise) as his leading lady. However, the Exorcist is held in such high regard by devoted horror fans – BBC film critic Mark Kermode has seen it over 200 times – that the team behind the show faced an uphill battle in convincing punters of its right to exist. Even one of its stars, Ben Daniels, admitted that he initially turned down the role before reading the script, in the belief that any attempt at recreating the original would be a failure. With this in mind, here’s everything we know so far about the Exorcist TV series. Why has someone made a TV series out of The Exorcist? It’s a film whose resonance has not diminished in the years since its release, despite its visual effects looking rather ludicrous in retrospect (sorry). And, of course, there’s the logic that seems to be behind every remake – that the story worked once and already has a large fanbase, just begging to be tapped into. In fairness to the producers of The Exorcist, they’ve clearly tried to do something a bit different here. What is The Exorcist TV series about? The show revolves around a case of demonic possession over 40 years after the events of the original. Geena Davis stars as the mother of a young girl exhibiting odd behaviour, who calls upon the assistance of two priests, Father Thomas Ortega and Father Marcus Keane. These two troubled men of God – one plagued by doubts about his calling, the other haunted by a previous exorcism – are at the heart of the story, and their journey, along with the possession story, is a good enough reason to stay glued to your screens for the duration of the 10 episode series. Is it any good? By building upon the story told in Friedkin’s masterpiece, the show manages to avoid the pitfalls of most contemporary reboots, such as misrepresenting beloved characters or mishandling a well-told narrative. Critical response in the US – where it is about to begin a new series which will see John Cho join the cast – has been predominantly positive. Check out some of the early responses to season one below. “It doesn’t try to be the movie or outdo it in terms of fright factor, nor does it provide any reasons for mockery. It’s well-made, well-acted television, which is more than can be said for some of the reboots rolling out this fall” – The New York Times. “The Exorcist is actually worth a look if you like scary things and have a penchant for scary familiar things you might want told a little differently and a little more deeply. The hour is scary enough but makes its biggest splash by demonstrating that it has plans to expand the worldview of the movie” – The Hollywood Reporter. “Director Rupert Wyatt (“Rise of the Planet of the Apes”) keeps the pilot chilly and drear, not overdoing the shocks and special effects. (Anyone who finds the going slow I would direct to the Friedkin film, which much of the time is positively mopey.) There are tense and spooky moments, to be sure” – The LA Times.
  16. With the release of Gorillaz’s new album Humanz just hours away, the band is dominating the news cycle, and it doesn’t appear that’s about to change anytime soon. Aside from the fact they’ve got a busy summer of touring ahead of them, they’re also planning an animated television series. In a new interview with Exclaim, Gorillaz’s creative director Jamie Hewlett discussed the forthcoming project. The plan is for a 10-episode run airing sometime in 2018. “I’ll direct the first and the last one, but we’ll have to get someone in to direct the other episodes,” Hewlett explained. “I think even attempting to do it all by myself will kill me.” While Gorillaz’s recent video for “Saturnz Barz” was presented in a 360-virtual reality format with CGI animation, Hewlett said the TV series will be two-dimensional. “They’ll be that way from now on. I think it’s a beautiful style of animation,” he noted. “Everybody does CGI now, and it is great when you’re making backgrounds, like environments and landscapes, but not the actual characters. I’m still very much inspired by the work of Chuck Jones, and I love that animation. It’s art. I’d like to keep the characters in that style for the rest of this campaign. So the characters on the show will be 2D, but everything else is up for grabs.” “It could be real footage with real people talking to the characters,” he added. “We’ll have guest appearances in the series by various artists that appear on the album or whoever we happen to write into the series. Or it could be a mix of collage and photography and a bit of CGI as well.” Beyond the TV series, Hewlett is also working on a Gorillaz-themed clothing line. He told Exclaim, “We also have a clothing company that I’ve designed all of the clothes for, which are being manufactured at the moment.” As for Gorillaz’s music, they’re set to appear on Colbert this evening. In anticipation, the band’s Instagram page has shared video of Damon Albarn and Noel Gallagher jamming out in the studio. (Gallagher appears on the Humanz closing track, “We’ve Got the Power”.)
  17. The most explosive book of 2018 is headed to the small screen. “Fire and Fury,” which author Michael Wolff bills as an exclusive glimpse inside President Trump's White House, is being adapted into a TV series, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Networks will soon have the opportunity to bid on the project, which will be executive produced by Wolff. Wolff's book has sparked huge controversy since excerpts began to emerge earlier this month. The book — which Wolff says he wrote after conducting over 200 interviews with those connected to Trump while spending considerable time at the White House — says those working with the President largely believe he's not fit to lead the nation. Bannon to talk with prosecutors working on Mueller's Russia probe “Fire and Fury” is being adapted into a TV series. (Olivier Douliery/TNS) Steve Bannon, a former special adviser to Trump, provided some of the most controversial commentary in the book, including referring to a meeting involving Donald Trump Jr. and a group of Russians as "treasonous." Bannon later claimed he was referring to former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort. Trump has slammed "Fire and Fury" as untrue and the book led to a rift between him and Bannon, who Trump says "lost his mind" after he was fired last year. Trump said last week he plans to give "a strong look" to the libel laws in America." "Our current libel laws are a sham and a disgrace, and do not represent American values or American fairness," Trump said. "We're going to take a very, very strong look at that. And I think what the American people want to see is fairness."
  18. Starz announced today the greenlight of the network’s next original series, the long-awaited follow-up to the classic horror film franchise The Evil Dead. The project reteams the original filmmakers, director Sam Raimi, with longtime producing partner Rob Tapert and star Bruce Campbell. Titled Ash Vs. Evil Dead, the 10-episode series will see Campbell reprise his role as Ash, the stock boy, aging lothario and chainsaw-handed monster hunter who has spent the last 30 years avoiding responsibility, maturity and the terrors of the Evil Dead. When a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind, Ash is finally forced to face his demons –personal and literal. Destiny, it turns out, has no plans to release the unlikely hero from its “Evil” grip. “Starz first worked with Sam and Rob on Spartacus, and we are thrilled to be back in business with them,” said Carmi Zlotnik, Managing Director of Starz. “With Sam writing and directing and Bruce Campbell returning to the screen, we are certain the show will give Evil Dead fans around the world the fix they’ve been craving.” “Evil Dead has always been a blast. Bruce, Rob, and I are thrilled to have the opportunity to tell the next chapter in Ash’s lame, but heroic saga. With his chainsaw arm and his ‘boomstick,’ Ash is back to kick some monster butt. And brother, this time there’s a truckload of it,” said Sam Raimi. "I'm really excited to bring this series to the Evil Dead fans worldwide - it's going to be everything they have been clamoring for: serious deadite ass-kicking and plenty of outrageous humor,” said Bruce Campbell. “STARZ has always been a great creative partner and we are excited to be working with them on this project,” said Robert Tapert. Raimi himself is set to direct the first episode.
  19. In its quest to launch a hit fantasy series of the Game of Thrones caliber, Amazon has closed a massive deal — said to be close to $250 million — to acquire global TV rights to The Lord of the Rings, based on the fantasy novels by J.R.R. Tolkien. The streaming service has given a multi-season commitment to a LOTR series in the pact, which also includes a potential spinoff series. The LOTR original series, a prequel to Tolkien’s The Fellowship of the Ring, will be produced by Amazon Studios in cooperation with the Tolkien Estate and Trust; HarperCollins; and New Line Cinema, a division of Warner Bros. Entertainment, which produced the hugely successful LOTR movie franchise. No details about the deal were disclosed, but it believed to be dwarfing any TV series pact to date with a whopping price tag attached. Amazon, Netflix and HBO had been approached by the Tolkien estate, who had been shopping the project. It came with an upfront rights payment said to be in the $200 million-$250 million range, and I hear Amazon landed the rights by paying close to $250 million. That is just for the rights, before any costs for development, talent and production, in proposition whose finances industry observers called “insane.” It is a payment that is made sight unseen as there is no concept, and there are no creative auspices attached to the possible series. On top of that, the budget for a fantasy series of that magnitude is likely to be $100 million-$150 million a season. “The Lord of the Rings is a cultural phenomenon that has captured the imagination of generations of fans through literature and the big screen,” said Sharon Tal Yguado, Head of Scripted Series at Amazon Studios. “We are honored to be working with the Tolkien Estate and Trust, HarperCollins and New Line on this exciting collaboration for television and are thrilled to be taking The Lord of the Rings fans on a new epic journey in Middle Earth.” Set in Middle Earth, the television adaptation will explore new storylines preceding Tolkien’s The Fellowship of the Ring. I hear that there are some creative restrictions imposed by the rights holders on what can be done and what can’t be done in a LOTR TV series. “We are delighted that Amazon, with its longstanding commitment to literature, is the home of the first-ever multi-season television series for The Lord of the Rings,” said Matt Galsor, a representative for the Tolkien Estate and Trust and HarperCollins. “Sharon and the team at Amazon Studios have exceptional ideas to bring to the screen previously unexplored stories based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s original writings.” Given Amazon’s mandate to launch a big fantasy series of the scope of Game of Thrones, which comes directly from honcho Jeff Bezos and Amazon’s deep coffers, the company was considered the leading contender for a Lord of the Rings series. Bezos has been hands-on involved in the matters of entertainment division Amazon Studios following the purge of its top executives, led by Roy Price, and has been taking meetings and making calls to agents. The Lord of the Rings deal eclipses some big-ticket series commitments Amazon has made during the past couple of years: $80 million for the six-episode Woody Allen show Crisis in Six Scenes, $70 million-plus for Matt Weiner’s eight-episode The Romanoffs and $160 million for two seasons of David O. Russell’s series, which now has been axed after about $40 million spent. (The last two series originally came from The Weinstein Co., which no longer has involvement in The Romanoffs) The Tolkien estate and publisher HarperCollins filed the massive lawsuit in November 2012 against Warner Bros., its subsidiary New Line and Middle-earth Enterprises — a division of Rings’ Hobbit rightsholder the Saul Zaentz Co. — claiming copyright infringement and breach of contract over video games, online slot machines and other digital merchandising. With the $80 million lawsuit settled in July, the two sides have gotten on better terms following the bitter feud. The Tolkien estate shopped the TV series with reps for feps for New Line Cinema. Warner Bros. TV, which would’ve been a logical partner, is not a studio on the LOTR series, which will be produced by Amazon Studios. I hear Amazon wanted to produce the series itself. A LOTR TV series will provide corporate synergy for Amazon, the world’s leading book seller. The Lord of the Rings novels was named Amazon customers’ favorite book of the millennium in 1999. Still, that world already has been extensively explored on-screen with three great Lord of the Rings movies and three Hobbit films. Launched at the 2001 Cannes Film Festival with The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, Peter Jackson’s LOTR trilogy was a global phenomenon. Starring Elijah Wood, In McKellen, Liv Tyler, Sean Bean, Viggo Mortensen, Sean Astin, Cate Blanchett, Orlando Bloom and others, the three films combined to gross more than $2.9 billion worldwide. LOTR: The Two Towers was released in 2002, and The Return of the King arrived the following year, becoming only the second film to top $1 billion worldwide. That third installment won 11 Oscars, including Best Picture, Director and Adapted Screenplay. The previous two combined to win six Academy Awards in crafts categories
  20. The ‘90s were a simpler time. And with the current state of world affairs, wouldn’t it be nice to transport back to the quirky decade for a little escape? Well, thanks to Netflix, you can! The streaming service, filled with some of the best TV shows from the 1990s, is ready to fill you with nostalgia. We made a list of the best series currently available to binge to help you prepare for the perfect flashback weekend. Frasier Kelsey Grammar starred as Frasier Crane for a whopping 11 seasons on NBC’s classic sitcom Frasier. Unlike many comedies that focused on blue-collar families, Frasier took a look at the neurotic lives of the cultural elite. But money can’t buy you peace of mind, and so hilarity ensues as the characters try to find love and a little happiness. Charmed This WB hit told the story of three sisters as they navigate work and relationships in San Francisco. Oh yeah, and they’re witches. Binge all eight seasons now in preparation for the upcoming Charmed reboot currently being cast for the CW. Friends Could there be a show that better encapsulates the ’90s than Friends? Considered one of the greatest sitcoms of all time, all ten seasons of the beloved series are available to stream on Netflix. You may think you already know how things end for Ross and Rachel, but it couldn’t hurt to watch a few (hundred) more times to be sure. Party of Five This Fox drama follows the lives of the Salinger family, a group of five kids who have to lean on each other and fend for themselves after their parents tragically die in a car accident. The series introduced the world to ’90s leading ladies like Neve Campbell and Jennifer Love Hewitt, who would go on to spook us in Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer, respectively. That ’70s Show For a show about the 1970s, That ’70s Show sure does bring back a lot of ’90s nostalgia. That’s because the show about a group of high school friends launched the cast, whose careers were just getting started at the end of the millennium, to superstardom. Cut to the present day, and Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis are married with children. But back then they were just high school kids in love. Freaks and Geeks For a show that only lasted one season, Freaks and Geeks sure has managed to stand the test of time. That’s because creators Judd Apatow and Paul Feig were able to make a coming-of-age show about high school kids who were as relatable as they were awkward. Not to mention it introduced us to some of today’s biggest stars, including James Franco, Jason Segel, and Seth Rogen.
  21. The Dark Tower TV series is in development at Amazon, according to Deadline. While the series was originally planned to tie into the 2017 film, that is no longer the plan, according to Stephen King in an interview with Vulture. "The TV series they’re developing now … we’ll see what happens with that. It would be like a complete reboot, so we’ll just have to see," said King. Glen Mazzara, who previously helmed The Walking Dead season 3, has been brought on as showrunner. Akiva Goldsman, who produced and co-wrote the film adaptation, will executive produce, along with Jeff Pinkner, Ron Howard, and Brian Grazer. Nikolaj Arcel, who directed The Dark Tower movie, and screenwriter Anders Thomas Jensen wrote a script for the pilot and will also executive produce. Of course, it's unclear if Amazon plans to move forward with Arcel and Jensen's script now that the film has turned out to be a failure. That pilot was said to feature Idris Elba, who played Roland in the movie, and Tom Taylor, who played Jake. It's unclear what their involvement will be at this point. Mazzara might prefer to start from scratch completely. MRC and Sony Pictures, who also released the film in 2017, will finance a 10-13 episode first season. Here's everything else we know: The Dark Tower TV Series Release Date EW had confirmed that the TV series would begin filming in 2017, with a potential premiere in 2018. As we've heard little about the show since the release of poorly received film, it's probably safe to say that the release date might be pushed back just a bit. The Dark Tower TV Series Showrunner THR reports that former Walking Dead exec producer Glen Mazzara will serve as showrunner for The Dark Tower TV series. "I’ve been a Stephen King fan for decades and the opportunity to adapt The Dark Tower as a TV series is a great honor," Mazzara told THR. "The events of The Gunslinger, Wizard & Glass, The Wind Through the Keyhole, and other tales need a long format to capture the complexity of Roland's coming of age — how he became the Gunslinger, how Walter became the Man in Black, and how their rivalry cost Roland everything and everyone he ever loved. I could not be more excited to tell this story. It feels like being given the key to a treasure chest. And oh yeah, we’ll have billy-bumblers!" Mazzara's involvement is definitely great news. He's responsible for what is arguably the greatest season of The Walking Dead after taking over for Frank Darabont in season 3. Hopefully, he'll bring a bit of his magic to The Dark Tower. The showrunner has also been attached to a prequel to The Shining called The Overlook Hotel for some time. No news on that front, though. The Dark Tower TV Series Details The show will reportedly flesh Roland's origin story and his first adventure as a young gunslinger from the fourth book in the series, Wizard and Glass. In 2017, MRC released a cool promo that teases the setting of the show. It's a map of the different places in the Barony of Mejis, where most of Wizard and Glass takes place: Roland's instructor, Cort, and his original ka-tet, Cuthbert and Alain, will appear on the show, although none of those roles have been cast yet.
  22. Well over a decade’s worth of whispers and rumblings surrounding the possibility of a live-action Star Wars TV series have finally been turned into reality. Lucasfilm has formally announced the hiring of Jon Favreau to executive produce and write the new series. It will be Favreau’s responsibility to assemble what Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy calls “a diverse group of writers and directors” to shape new stories in the Star Wars expanded universe. As expected and anticipated, the new series will air exclusively on Disney’s upcoming and as-of-yet named direct-to-consumer streaming platform. It could be used as a launch title or come much later down the road. Favreau is no stranger to Star Wars having professed his love for the Original Trilogy as a child. He’s also lent his voice to Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and has a small role in the upcoming Solo: A Star Wars Story film. First, Favreau has to wrap up post-production on Disney’s ambitious live-action The Lion King film that he’s directing. That film won’t be released until 2019.
  23. In this age of Netflix, it feels like there are new films and series emerging every day, so it comes as no suprise that some of those announcements turn out to be "fake news." But while sometimes those are easy to spot, other times you have to look twice. Too Real to Be Fake The series in question is called Stairs and is the new project from Ross Reedlon, the award-winning director of Sally the Demon Smasher. Sound fake? Not necessarily. Sound familiar? Definitely. This sounds awfully similar to Joss Whedon and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. And instead of Sarah Michelle Gellar, Sally starred Jenna Estelle Greene. But that's not all. One of the lead actors, Amy "A-Hole" Hollister, seems to be a parody of Jennifer "J-Law" Lawrence. First, there's the name, and then there are the YA movies both starred in, and the quirky down-to-earth personalities both have. There are twitter profiles for all of the six lead actors as well as the director, the aforementioned Jenna Estelle Greene, and one for the series. And they are not only empty profiles. Most of them are actually active; tweeting, liking, and retweeting posts and pictures. Apparently Amy (@amy_ahole) is very in your face and over the top, Diego Schmidt (@DiegoJFSchmidt) is an Argentinian who loves his grandmother, and Caroline Bush (@CarolineMBush) is exactly what her name sounds like. Fake Series, Real Fans In spite of the weirdness and the fakeness, these guys have amassed tons of fans. The Holes - which is the ship name of Amy and Peter Hollister - even have a fan account on Twitter. And to be honest, I don't blame them. After all I've read about the project and the cast, I'm almost disappointed it's not real. would actually love to watch it now. Don't get me wrong, though. All that work wasn't for nothing: It was promo material for a play. The play is called "Stairs" just like the series, and seems to be following the production of the sitcom. It is an original project of a German student theater group and is going to premiere soon. Whether or not all the tweets helped promoting the performance remains to be seen.
  24. On March 8, 2019, audiences will finally get to see a female superhero headline a solo Marvel movie. “Captain Marvel” is still one year away, but we already know plenty about the flick. Returning Cast: While this isn’t an Avengers flick, there will be some familiar faces. A pre-eye patch Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and young Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) will be in the movie. Of course, Brie Larson will play Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers, but she is widely rumored to first appear in “Avengers: Infinity War.” New Cast: Larson will be joined by plenty of actors who are new to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Jude Law will play Doctor Walter Lawson, a.k.a. Mar-Vell, Carol’s mentor. Ben Mendelsohn will play a villain. DeWanda Wise will make her film debut as a supporting character (Monica Rambeau is a popular guess). Gemma Chan will play Minn-Erva, a Kree geneticist and spy. Brie Larson will star as Captain Marvel next year. She is pictured above on Jan. 21, 2018 in Los Angeles. Photo: Christopher Polk/Getty Images for Turner Period Piece: This will be Marvel’s first period movie since “Captain America: The First Avenger,” but the Brie Larson-starrer isn’t going that far back. “Captain Marvel” will take place in the 1990s. Villains: A superhero needs a good villain to fight. At San Diego Comic-Con, it was confirmed that Carol would be going up against the Skrulls, and Mendelsohn is rumored to be playing the Skrull leader. Plot: First and foremost, “Captain Marvel” is an origin story. The Marvel movie will show how Air Force pilot Carol Danvers ends up with powers. It will also dive into the Skrull-Kree war. Other than that, Marvel Studios hasn’t revealed much. Creative Team: Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck will direct. Although Nicole Perlman and Meg LeFauve wrote drafts of the screenplay together, Geneva Robertson-Dworet has taken over writing. The female team in front of and behind the camera makes it the perfect flick to release on International Women’s Day. Funny Girl: Robertson-Dworet can’t give away too much about the movie, but she noted that Captain Marvel knows how to deliver laughs. “Carol Danvers is one of the funniest comic book characters,” she told Entertainment Weekly. “She’s so sassy, she’s such a smartass, she won’t take [expletive] from anyone, and the comic books do an amazing job at capturing that voice, and it was important that the entire Captain Marvel creative team [kept to that].” Altered Origin: As previously reported, the origin story isn’t expected to be the same as the comics. Perlman noted that she didn’t want the story to look too similar to Green Lantern’s start, so some changes were made. “There’s a lot of reinvention that needs to happen,” she told the Any Time with Vin Forte podcast in 2016. Green Suit: Captain Marvel won’t start out in her red, blue and gold suit. Set photos revealed that she is in a green outfit. It could be a reference to the original Mar-Vell suit in the comics, or it might be a reference to her alliance with the Kree.
  25. Having starred in his 2006 directorial debut Slither, James Gunn has revealed that he’ll be reuniting with actress Elizabeth Banks on a new horror movie which he is set to produce. “Elizabeth and I have been on the same artistic page since we first met when she auditioned for Slither back in 2005,” said Gunn. “She’s since remained one of my best friends in the world, and I’ve been fighting tooth and nail to work with her again. She’s the perfect partner to Yarvo, the H Collective and myself in creating this very special project.” Gunn, who is busy developing his next Marvel offering Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, will produce the as-yet-untitled horror, while David Yarovesky (The Hive) will direct from a script by Brian and Mark Gunn. Banks is currently preparing to star in Taylor Hackford’s upcoming drama Signal Hill, and has recently completed filming on Brian Henson’s puppet noir The Happytime Murders.
