  1. Hearthstone's latest expansion is just over a month old, and with a significant tournament event behind it Blizzard is prepared to start adjusting the balance. In a set of changes announced today on the official blog, the company is targeting several dominant decks with feather-touch tweaks aimed at allowing them to still be viable, but not quite so overwhelming. Three of the most popular decks in Standard were hit hardest. Control or Cube Warlock are losing some healing power with Dark Pact, which will only restore 4 health instead of 8. Likewise, Possessed Lackey is going up to a 6-mana cost minion. Taken together, these changes make it harder to tease out big late-game demons quite as early, and make Warlocks exercise more care over their life total. Paladin decks in general have been strong in the current meta as well, thanks in part to the Call to Arms spell. That spell is now going to cost 5 mana instead of 4--in part to remove its inclusion in so-called "Even Paladin" decks that are built around the odds and evens mechanic introduced in The Witchwood expansion. Finally, the already once nerfed Quest Rogue saw new life with some of the tools in Witchwood, so it's getting hit again. The final result of the spell will make all minions into 4-attack and 4-health, instead of 5 of each. A more general utility card found across several deck types, Spiteful Summoner is getting a cost increase to 7-mana. Since it summons a random minion to match a spell cost, players were using it almost exclusively in decks that only packed big spells. Increasing the cost gives opponents more opportunity to respond to the big threats. Along those same lines, Naga Sea Witch has been exploited heavily in Wild to create a flurry of giants very early in the game. It's getting the most dramatic change, from 5-mana up to 8-mana, to address the problem. It's the oldest card in the bunch, having already rotated out of Standard, but Wild players have been requesting a change for some time now. As usual these changes are being made entirely to older cards that weren't part of the new Witchwood expansion. Blizzard tends to let newer cards stick around unaltered for a while before making any major changes, and focuses its balance tweaks on older cards--usually ones that are being combined with the new set in creatively dangerous ways. This will also be the first major balance patch announced since the game director left the companylast month. No timeline has been announced for the patch but Blizzard assures it's coming soon.
  2. Microsoft continues to expand Xbox One's backwards compatible library little by little. Major Nelson announced on Twitter today that one more Xbox 360 game is now playable on the current-gen console: EA's fast-paced boxing sim, Fight Night Champion. Originally released in 2011, Champion is the fifth and, to date, most recent installment in the Fight Night series. It features a variety of modes, including a full story campaign that follows Andre Bishop, a professional boxer working his way back to the circuit after serving out a prison sentence. EA's boxing sim earned an 8.5/10 in GameSpot's original Fight Night Champion review. Critic Justin Calvert said, "Fight Night Champion is a great game that has a lot to offer. The story-driven Champion mode is an entertaining addition to the series, and once you get into the Legacy mode you might find that it's hard to put down your controller even after you've spent dozens of hours using the same fighter." If you still own a physical copy of Fight Night Champion, you can now insert the disc into your Xbox One's disc drive and begin playing. Conversely, if you own the game digitally, it will appear automatically in the Ready to Download section of the My Games & Apps tab. You can also purchase a digital copy of the title from the Xbox Store for US $20 / £20 / AU $29.95. Xbox One has amassed an impressive library of backwards compatible games since Microsoft first introduced the feature back in 2015, including a selection of original Xbox games. The most recent batch of those arrived last month and included The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, Jade Empire, and Panzer Dragoon Orta, among other popular titles. The program has also proven to be quite popular with players. Microsoft recently touted that Xbox One players have collectively logged almost 1 billion hours playing BC games on the console, and around half of all Xbox One owners have used the feature. You can find the full list of Xbox One BC games here.
  3. Rockstar has rolled out another batch of content for Grand Theft Auto V. Along with a new selection of in-game bonuses and discounts, the developer has introduced a new, battle royale-inspired Adversary mode for GTA Online called Trap Door, which is available to play now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Trap Door pits teams against each other on a floating platform that is shrinking "rapidly" throughout the match. Each time a player is killed, they are transported to the red zone, where they're given only a few seconds to escape to the main platform before the zone disappears and dumps everyone within into the ocean. To commemorate the launch of Trap Door, everyone who participates in the new mode in the next few days will receive extra bonuses. From now until May 21, Trap Door is paying out double the usual amount of GTA$ and RP. You can jump into the mode either from the boot screen or by setting a waypoint to the Featured Adversary mode. In addition to Trap Door, players will earn double GTA$ and RP for Biker Business Sell Missions, while Smuggler's Run missions will pay out double GTA$ this week. Those who also participated in last week's Business Week event will now find their bonus money waiting in their Maze Bank accounts. On top of the aforementioned bonuses, players can save 30% off of Executive Office Garages in GTA Online this week. An assortment of "fan favorite" vehicles and weapons are also on sale; the full list of discounted items can be found below. You can read more about this week's GTA V discount on Rockstar's official website. This Week's GTA Online Discounts Vehicles Mammoth Hydra -- 40% off (Buy It Now & Trade Price) Declasse Hotring Sabre -- 25% off Vapid GB200 -- 25% off Vulcar Fagaloa -- 25% off Ubermacht SC1 -- 25% off Coil Cyclone -- 25% off Lampadati Viseris -- 25% off Vapid Caracara -- 25% off Weapons & Tattoos All Ammo (including Mk II) -- 25% off All Assault Rifles -- 25% off All Sniper Rifles -- 25% off All Shotguns -- 25% off Doomsday Heist tattoos -- 25% off
  4. When a big new game comes out, it often takes months before we see a significant price drop. The PS4 exclusive God of War launched less than a month ago, but you can already get it for $47--that's more than 20% off. It's a good deal on a game that's received incredibly high marks from both critics and players. All you have to do is click here to get it from Newegg via Ebay. The discount appears when you add the game to your cart. The most common way to get 20% off new games is to pre-order them with Amazon Prime or to be a Gamers Club Unlocked member through Best Buy. The problem is, those subscriptions cost money. They also only get you 20% off, which would bring the price down to $48. This deal saves you an extra dollar and doesn't require a paid membership. That's a win-win. On the fence about buying God of War? Judging by its 94/100 score on our sister site Metacritic, you probably don't need to worry. The user score is also high at 9.2/10, indicating people who bought it tend to agree with reviewers. From GameSpot's God of War review: "In many ways God of War is what the series has always been. It's a spectacular action game with epic set pieces, big-budget production values, and hard-hitting combat that grows more feverish and impressive as you progress. What may surprise you is how mature its storytelling has become. Like Kratos, God of War recalls the past while acknowledging the need to improve. Everything new it does is for the better, and everything it holds onto benefits as a result. Kratos is no longer a predictable brute. God of War is no longer an old-fashioned action series. With this reboot, it confidently walks a new path that will hopefully lead to more exciting adventures to come." If that sounds good, get it while it's on sale. There's no indication of when the price may go back up to $60, so the sooner the better.
  5. We're nearly halfway through May, which means the first batch of this month's free Games with Gold on Xbox One won't be available for much longer. Xbox Live Gold members only have a little more time to grab a couple of titles at no charge before they return to their regular price. Gold members can still download the first of this month's two free Xbox 360 games: the Sega classic Streets of Rage. Like all other Games with Gold, it is also playable on Xbox One through backwards compatibility. Additionally, one holdover from April's Games with Gold lineup--Assassin's Creed Syndicate--will also return to its regular price on May 15. Those two will be replaced by a new pair of titles beginning May 16. On the Xbox One side, Gold members will be able to grab the last mainline installment in the Metal Gear Solid series, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, while Platinum Games' cult favorite shooter Vanquish will be the second free 360 title available this month. Both Metal Gear Solid V and Vanquish will be free to download through the end of May, and the latter is likewise also playable on Xbox One thanks to backwards compatibility. Gold members can also still grab the newly released Super Mega Baseball 2 for free until May 31. You can see the full list of this month's free Games with Gold below.
  6. Rage 2 is a real game. After Bethesda decided not to deny a recent leak of the game, it's officially announced the game is indeed in the works with its first trailer. Unfortunately, it doesn't showcase any gameplay, but that's just around the corner. Subsequently, an official website has provided us with a few more details--including one of the developers. Rage 2's first trailer is comprised almost entirely of live action. A variety of characters who wouldn't look out of place in Mad Max's world can be seen fighting, wielding weapons, and... lifting weights. It doesn't provide any real indication of what to expect from the game, though it does seem to suggest the possibility of a somewhat lighthearted tone (or as lighthearted as can be in a post-apocalyptic world). It features the Andrew WK song "Ready to Die." Bethesda said that a gameplay trailer will follow soon after this one; that video is due out on Tuesday, May 15. That's set to drop at the same time that this one did, at 7 AM PT / 10 AM ET / 3 PM BST (12 AM AET on May 16). The company didn't share anything more, including a release date or platforms, though PC, PS4, and Xbox One seem like fair assumptions. The official Bethesda website has been updated with an area devoted to Rage 2, and it reveals a bit more than the trailer. Answering the question of what Rage 2 is, it states, "Dive headfirst into a dystopian world devoid of society, law, and order. Rage 2 brings together a true open-world FPS experience where you can go anywhere, shoot anything, and explode everything." Additionally, the footer of the site notes that it was developed "in association" with Avalanche Studios, the studio responsible for the Just Cause series. It also developed 2015's Mad Max game. A recent leak on Walmart Canada's website seemingly spilled the beans on games that many assumed were planned for E3 2018 reveals. It's unclear if that's the case with Rage 2, but Bethesda opted not to take the usual route of declining to comment. Instead, Rage's Twitter account jokingly made suggestions about problems with the listing, and Bethesda's account began sending out numerous teaser images. Bethesda's E3 2018 press conference is set for Sunday, June 10. The company recently teased that it might be its longest one ever, although beyond Rage 2's inevitable appearance, we know little else about what will be included.
  7. Mafia 3 developer Hangar 13 is setting up a new studio office in Brighton, UK, to be headed by Split/Second director Nick Baynes. Baynes makes something of a reunion for the studio, as he worked at Black Rock Studio with Andy Wilson, who is now VP of development at Hangar 13. The new team will work alongside the existing offices in California and the Czech Republic to collaborate on projects. For the time being, that current project is an unannounced AAA game for 2K. The announcement promises that the studio will be scaling up its various locations to keep pace with development. The studio's sole credit, Mafia 3, received a mixed reception on GameSpot sister site Metacritic. The GameSpot Mafia 3 review was similarly lukewarm, hailing its excellent characterization and memorable story missions, but finding the core gameplay feeling dated and plagued with technical issues. It was a big-budget freshman attempt, though, and managed to set records for 2K at the time. The developer was hit with layoffs earlier this year regardless, but given that it's currently on a project and announcing plans to ramp up during production, that may have simply been the sunsetting of one project and moving onto the next.
  8. Chicago Fire ended Season 6 on a rather wild note, as series regular Gabby Dawson got into a fight with her husband Casey over their potential future children, and then shipped off to Puerto Rico to volunteer. With contract negotiations happening behind the scenes for all the core cast members, the finale gave actress Monica Raymund a potential easy exit, and now it looks like fans have actually seen the last of Gabby on Chicago Fire. Raymund announced she's moving on with the next chapter in her life by penning a thankful letter to her fans. The note seems to officially mark the close of Monica Raymund's six-season runon Chicago Fire, and we're assuming that means the end of Gabby Dawson on the series. Fans on Twitter were understandably upset by Raymund's decision, although more of the expressed concern appeared to be pointed at Chicago Fire, rather than the actress herself. Many who responded expressed that the series wrote Dawson off in a poor way, and that it really did a disservice in not resolving the ongoing storyline between her and Casey. Rumors of Monica Raymund's impedning departure started swirling before the Season 6 finale of Chicago Fire. Sending Dawson off to Puerto Rico in the midst of a heated argument with her husband Casey may not have been the best storyline, given Raymund's contract was set to expire at the season's end. Chicago Firealmost definitely won't be recasting the role, so the goal now will be to craft the best explanation possible for Dawson's lack of a return, assuming Raymund's note indeed means she's moving on from the series for good, without any plans to return for a final appearance. Chicago Fire could just keep up with the pretense that she's off doing volunteer duties throughout Season 7, relatively ignoring the problem. Another option involves the finale reveal that Dawson has an aneurysm that made giving birth a potentially life-threatening act; it's always possible the show could kill the character off using that as the excuse. The latter option would at least provide some finality to the relationship between her and Matthew Casey, however depressing it may be. Plus, that outcome could give Chicago Fire some potential paths to take his character down in Season 7. Jesse Spencer, who plays Casey, signed a one-year extension on his contract with the show, so he'll need a great storyline to earn more seasons. Chicago Fire will return to NBC for Season 7 on Wednesday nights at 9:00 p.m. ET. For a look at what else NBC has scheduled for its fall programming, check out their schedule right here. For a list of shows that are coming to television much sooner than that, head on over to our summer premiere guide.
  9. The drama surrounding former Lethal Weapon star Clayne Crawford's public ousting hit an eye-opening new level thanks to a flurry of accusatory social media posts from current co-lead Damon Wayans, whose on-set feud with Crawford has been the subject of much reporting. In a series of now-removed tweets, Wayans fully addressed the controversy surrounding the injury he suffered during the Crawford-directed Season 2 episode, and also shined a brighter light on how widespread and recognized Crawford's alleged behavior was around the set. First, Damon Wayans posted a video of the special effects explosion which led to a piece of shrapnel hitting him in the head. The actor's reason for posting is that while the explosion happened to his right, it was the left side of his head that got struck. He followed the video up with a goofy conspiracy theory-esque post about there being a "second shooter" to his left that "accounts for what he heard from his left side," but the humor shouldn't take away from the star's sincerity. This incident going public was one of the first times that Wayans and Crawford's tension boiled over and reached viewers' attention spans. Check out a screenshot of the post (via Deadline). Claiming that he got no apologies from Clayne Crawford for the injury, Damon Wayans was using these posts in an attempt to balance the massive fan backlash that followed Crawford's firing and the replacement casting of Seann William Scott as co-lead. Which Wayans was able to do now that Fox has confirmed Lethal Weapon is returning for Season 3. Whenever the reports had first surfaced about Crawford's misconduct, the actor's response was largely tied to issues of on-set safety, where he painted himself to be a beacon of protection. So Wayans chose to attempt to debunk that side of things first. Many fans who aren't aware of the full situation slammed the producers and the network -- which itself passed the buck on to production company Universal TV -- for disrupting the core pairing that basically defines Lethal Weapon. But with another post, Wayans revealed the most specifically damning claims yet against Clayne Crawford.
  10. Warning: This story about the Season 3 finale of Lucifer is dark and full of SPOILERS. Do a careful jig away from it until you've watched the episode! Fans of Fox's Lucifer have been going crazy for the past few days upon hearing that the supernatural police procedural had been cancelled after Season 3. Well, a couple of days ago showrunner Joe Henderson revealed that those same fans would likely be very disappointed by the season ender, because while it would wrap up Season 3, it would also tease some major stuff for Season 4, which is now unlikely to happen. And, he wasn't kidding. After being tricked into an ambush by Pierce and his rather large goon squad once the team realized that he was responsible for Charlotte's death, Lucifer and Pierce fight. Of course, our Morningstar hero wins, managing to stab Pierce in the chest with the demon blade he had tried to kill Lucifer with. And, as Pierce is dying, Lucifer's Devil face finally comes back...just in time for Chloe to come in and see him in all his fiery, scary, red-faced glory. The episode ends with Chloe muttering about how everything Lucifer has been telling her for years has been true, as the camera rests on a wide shot of the two lovebirds facing one another. So, how would Season 4 have handled the reveal? Here's what Joe Henderson had to say about Lucifer's Devil face returning right as he killed Pierce: One of the big things we established in this finale is you control your own fate, and that includes angels. You are what you make of yourself. Part of [the cause] is the actual murder, and part of it is in doing so, what Lucifer seeshimself as. That's a big thing we wanted to unravel in Season 4 --- why did my Devil face come back in that moment? Is it because I killed a man? Is it because I likedit? Obviously, by the time Lucifer kills Pierce, he deserved to die, but it sounds like Season 4 would have dealt with the repercussions of that act on a much deeper level. Even if someone needs to die, should you actually enjoy killing them? And, since Amenadiel seems to be correct that they are in control of their gifts, does Lucy getting his Devil face back mean that he now sees himself as an actual devil in the larger sense, even though he was starting to become a better person because of his love for Chloe? Henderson also spoke to TVLine about how Season 4 would have handled Chloe finally being forced to believe the truth about Lucifer after all this time. There's no going back. We wanted to back ourselves into this corner, so there was no way we couldn't stick with what we did. This is the end of an act, and the beginning of the next one is Chloe knowing the truth and having to deal with both the fact that her partner was actually the Devil, but also the man she has grown to love. That's what we wanted to explore in Season 4. Yeah. After a couple of years of believing that Lucifer was speaking in metaphor every time he talked about heaven, being the devil, angels, immortals and the like, Chloe is going to have one hell (haha) of a time reconciling the truth she's finally seen with her own eyes with the idea that she's fallen in love with the actual, realdevil. Not to mention the fact that everything he's said to her about his past is real, and she's going to have to deal with all that new knowledge, as well. So, basically, Lucifer had some seriously solid plans in place for Season 4 storylines, especially considering the relationship between Lucifer and Chloe. Let's hope that we can get another season somewhere to wrap this cliffhanger up. Until we find out if Lucifer can be saved, be sure to check out our summer premiere schedule to see what you can watch in the meantime.
  11. Spoilers ahead for Episode 18 of Supergirl Season 3, "Shelter from the Storm." The main conflict of Supergirl Season 3 has revolved around Supergirl and the Worldkiller known as Reign. In the last few episodes, however, another conflict has developed between a pair of characters who were once the best of friends. Kara and Lena aren't quite on the same page any more, and Lena is arguably one of the most dangerous characters on the show thanks to her intelligence, her resources, and her ruthlessness. "Shelter from the Storm" ended on a scene that may have hinted that Lena has figured out that Kara and Supergirl are one and the same, and that could be very bad for everybody. The trust between Lena and Supergirl was damaged as soon as Supergirl learned that Lena was harboring and experimenting on Sam/Reign, and Supergirl felt compelled to ask James to break into Lena's lab and check for any spare kryptonite. For her part, Lena understandably felt betrayed when James 'fessed up that Supergirl wanted him to sneak behind her back. The conflict only escalated in "Shelter from the Storm" when Lena informed Supergirl that she'd learned the formula for creating kryptonite and had created some specifically designed to take down Reign. Supergirl didn't back down from her stance that she and she alone should have control over the kryptonite on Earth, and Lena didn't agree to hand over her formulas and stash. Supergirl seemed willing to bury the hatchet by the end of the hour after Lena's kryptonite was instrumental in capturing Reign, but Lena wasn't quite so willing to forgive and forget, and her final conversation with Kara (not as Supergirl) may have been a clue that Lena knows the truth about Kara. The two former BFFs met up in an elevator on the way up to visit Ruby, who was dealing with the fact that her mom was the supervillainess Reign. Lena started chatting about how she and Supergirl aren't getting along and that it's never a good idea to meet your idols. Lena was clear that she believes she can never trust Supergirl again, citing the fact that Supergirl tried to use Lena's personal relationship with James against her and arguing that Supergirl just isn't who she seemed to be. When Kara tried to protest that Supergirl must have had a good reason, Lena gave her some looks that didn't just seem like those of a friend venting to another friend. Lena's expression seemed more like that of somebody who knew a very big secret and was giving Kara the chance to come clean. All things considered, it would make sense if Lena had figured out that Kara is Supergirl. For one thing, Kara looks exactly like Supergirl if Supergirl wore glasses, and the two are never in the same place at once. Lena grew to count both as friends, and she's a brilliant woman. If anything, it's been difficult to believe that Lena hasn't figured out that Kara is a Kryptonian. The events of "Shelter from the Storm" combined with Katie McGrath's performance in the elevator scene mean that it wouldn't be completely out of the blue if Supergirl reveals that Lena knows the big secret. If Lena truly has figured out that Kara is Supergirl, Kara is going to need to come clean to Lena if she wants to salvage the friendship and perhaps stop Lena from embracing her Luthor side and going full villain. Lena will never trust her again if she doesn't tell the truth. Admittedly, Lena might be a dangerous person to trust with the Supergirl secret at this point, but she deserves to know the truth. Even if Kara is the hero of the show and has always had the best intentions in her interactions with Lena, she has lied to her friend from the very beginning. If Lena does end up going full villain, we can probably trace her passing the point of no return to "Shelton from the Storm." New episodes of Supergirl air on Mondays at 8 p.m. ET. Supergirl may have already gotten the renewal order, but not all shows have been so lucky. Check out our list of big network TV cancellations for the shows that have already gotten the axe, and be sure to check back with CinemaBlend's rundown of TV renewals and cancellations. Our schedule of TV season finales is worth a look, as is our summer TV premiere schedule for what you can watch in the not-too-distant future.
  12. The X-Files was one of the first shows in the recent wave of revivals and reboots when it returned to Fox back in 2016 for Season 10, and Season 11 aired early this year. While Season 11 didn't end on a cliffhanger quite like Season 10, fans have naturally been wondering if the show will return, especially after leading lady Gillian Anderson revealed that she's not looking to come back as Scully. Fox CEO Gary Newman has revealed that there are no plans for another season of The X-Files at this point, and some folks online have called Anderson out as the cause for the show ending. Well, Anderson had a response, and it was pretty hilarious. Check it out! Gillian Anderson added a pretty hilarious comment after she retweeted an articlethat connected the lack of an order for Season 12 to her decision to exit the series. According to Anderson, the drop in viewership for The X-Files in Season 11 was the real reason that the show won't be back for another round, at least any time soon. Sure, longtime fans might have a hard time imagining a Season 12 without Anderson as Scully, but would Fox really hold back from more if the ratings and viewership were killing the competition? Besides, The X-Files creator Chris Carter revealed back in February that he could see the show continuing with or without Gillian Anderson, despite earlier comments to the contrary. Carter believed that there are more stories to tell in The X-Files universe; he might have been on board for a Season 12 even if Gillian Anderson remained firm in her determination not to reprise the role of Scully beyond the Season 11 finale. Unfortunately for any viewers who would have been interested in a Scully-less Season 12, the ratings and viewership simply weren't there to justify another season. The X-Files revival was a smash hit when it first hit the airwaves in 2016, but it just wasn't as successful when it returned in 2018. The absence of a killer cliffhanger in the finale may mean that it's better for The X-Files to end now rather than continue to stretch the search for the truth even further. After all, the finale ended with a whole bunch of WTF twists, not the least of which was that Scully -- who is not supposed to have any ova left in her body -- is pregnant. Quite aside from the fact that The X-Files would have to try and find a way to explain Scully's pregnancy since there's no way the Cigarette-Smoking Man could have creepily impregnated her against her will this time around, a Season 12 would have had to deal with impending parenthood for the dynamic duo. Even if Season 12 was just Mulder soldiering along while a pregnant Scully was in hiding in a reverse of Season 9, the baby bombshell from the finale might have overshadowed everything. Yes, at this point, it may be best to remember The X-Files as it was rather than try to find ways to bring it back yet again. Even if The X-Files won't be back for Season 12, you can relive the first 11 seasons streaming on Hulu now. For more of what you'll be able to watch in the not-too-distant future, take a look at our summer TV premiere guide. Be sure to check back with CinemaBlend for the latest in TV renewals and cancellations, and don't forget to swing by our list of big network TV shows that have already been cancelled.
  13. The X-Men franchise is a sprawling landscape of characters, but Deadpool and Wolverine are the two solo acts who dominate the series. Fans have been dying to see a crossover between Wade Wilson and Logan ever since the two first crossed paths (albeit unsuccessfully) in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and even Ryan Reynolds is keen on making it happen as well. Alas, it looks like Hugh Jackman's retirement is the thing standing in the way. In a recent interview at the premiere of Deadpool 2, Reynolds concluded: You know, that's a long-standing dream of mine. Y'know sadly it's Hugh Jackman that's the skin-covered speed-bump on the road to that sort of happiness. We'll see. He hung it up. So, we'll see. Ryan Reynolds has made no secret of the fact that he wants to see a proper crossover between Wade Wilson and Wolverine. The smartass actor behind the Merc with the Mouth has routinely pleaded with Hugh Jackman for a crossover between their two R-rated X-Men properties, but that process hit a major roadblock last year when Jackman retired from the franchise with Logan. Per his comments to Variety on the matter, Reynolds still remains open to the possibility of getting the Australian actor in on a crossover, but the ball is very much in Jackman's court at this stage of the game. These pleas have not gone unnoticed by Hugh Jackman in recent days. In fact, the retired Wolverine actor recently addressed Ryan Reynolds' desire to see this crossover during a recent TV appearance, and he humorously shut down his friendand former co-star about the possibility of seeing it happen. So at this point, the odds of it actually coming together seem relatively slim. Of course, even without the presence of Hugh Jackman or Wolverine in the Deadpool franchise, it looks like the Merc with the Mouth is doing just fine on his own. Deadpool 2 received great reactions from fans on social media after its initial screenings, and the reviews of the film have been largely positive ahead of its release. Getting Hugh Jackman to sign on for a cameo or a full-blown crossover would obviously be a huge win for the Deadpool franchise and fans alike, but it's also clear that the series could easily continue to simply make its current Hugh Jackman/Wolverine jokes and thrive on its own merit without an appearance by Jackman as the adamantium-clawed badass. Either way, the fans would win. Deadpool 2 finally premieres in theaters later this week on May 18. Check out David Leitch's highly-anticipated X-Men franchise spinoff when it debuts, and then head over to our movie premiere guide to see what other films are set to debut this year!
  14. The Gambit movie can't seem to catch a break. It's had one hell of a time keeping a director long enough to go into production, but now the Cajun superhero may be eyeing a start date to actually begin filming. Simon Kinberg, one of the producers involved in all of Fox's Marvel projects has revealed that the script for Gambit is ready, and the project should have a new director very soon. Once all of that is ready, the film could begin shooting as early as the end of this summer. According to Kinberg... We have a script that's extraordinary, that we love, that Channing loves, Channing Tatum. And we've met with a bunch of directors in the last couple of weeks and we're hoping to actually pick one in the next couple of weeks and shoot the movie maybe the end of this summer. To be fair, Simon Kinberg tells Variety that "maybe" the movie could be filming this summer, so even he doesn't seem 100% convinced that it will happen that soon. Still, you can't blame the guy for hedging a little considering how much this movie has gone through. If filming actually starts this summer a lot of people will be surprised, though pleasantly so I'd imagine. Numerous directors, from Gore Verbinski to Doug Liman to Rupert Wyatt have been attached to the Gambit movie over the years, but all have left for various reasons. With every delay due to director issues came a delay in the release date. The movie is currently set with a June 2019 release, but it was once eyeing an October 2016 release window, which gives you an idea just how rough a go of it this movie has had. Certainly, to keep the June 2019 release date, production on Gambit needs to begin this summer, but with the history this film has had, I'll have to take an "I'll believe it when I see it" attitude. Still, the fact that Gambit is even still an active concern at all means that there's a lot of will behind making the movie happen. Part of that is likely simply because it's a comic book superhero movie in an era when that particular genre is insanely popular, but the character of Gambit has a pretty significant fan base, star Channing Tatum included among them, which has clearly made this particular project one that people didn't want to just let go. Hey, there was a time when a superhero passion project that seemed like it was never going to happen turned into a massive hit franchise. I'm not saying Gambit is the next Deadpool, but it certainly wouldn't be so bad if it was.
  15. One of the most discussed issues in Hollywood today is the gender pay gap, and the fact that male stars often make more than their female counterparts for the same job. This is not exclusively a Hollywood problem, as pay inequity exists across society to varying degrees and is therefore not the kind of thing that is fixed quickly or easily. Instead of waiting for the problem to fix itself, some are putting their money where their mouth is and forcing the issue. One such actor is Doctor Strange himself, Benedict Cumberbatch, who recently said he would turn down a role if his female co-star isn't paid the same as him. The actor explained his reasoning saying: Equal pay and a place at the table are the central tenets of feminism. Look at your quotas. Ask what women are being paid, and say: 'If she's not paid the same as the men, I'm not doing it. Benedict Cumberbatch is a stalwart feminist, so this goes to show that he doesn't just espouse his beliefs, he lives by them. Perhaps that means passing on great jobs or big paydays, but the actor is practicing what he preaches to combat the issue of pay inequity. While this won't solve the pay gap everywhere, the actor is doing what he can to ensure that he and his films are not part of the problem. Cumberbatch's suggestion that actors like himself take an active role and do the same is a bold approach, and one that any studios looking to book the actor for a film should be prepared for. Benedict Cumberbatch is also living up to his feminist ideals by using his new production company SunnyMarch (which is made up of primarily women) to back female-focused dramas. As he told Radio Times, the actor is able to do this and get such films financed and made because of the strength of his name in the industry. His ultimatum approach is an admirable one, and could definitely work for he and other actors with similar star power. Of course, not every actor is as in demand or has the clout of Benedict Cumberbatch. An actor with less name value and more in need may find himself without a job if he gives such an ultimatum. Therefore, larger institutional changes will need to be made to correct for the issue in the industry as a whole. Similarly, many female actors don't always have the luxury of demanding equal pay. Struggling actresses cam either want or need a job bad enough, and therefore take these jobs regardless. The pay gap also disproportionately affects women of color, but people are now aware of this issue and pay inequity does not go unnoticed. Recently, there was an uproar over Claire Foy getting paid less than Matt Smith on Netflix's The Crown, a show that she is the star of. The industry is changing though with some taking a proactive approach like HBO's Westworld paying Evan Rachel Wood the same as her more famous male co-stars. You can currently see Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange in Avengers: Infinity War on the big screen and catch him as a less magical, but no less prickly character in Patrick Melrose, airing now on Showtime.
  16. Of all the films on the current DC slate, one of the most exciting of the bunch is Chris McKay's Nightwing movie. The LEGO Batman Movie director will bring us our first live-action silver screen Dick Grayson since the Joel Schumacher years, and fans have wondered who will eventually step in for the titular role. One name that has been thrown around is none other than Baywatch star Zac Efron, but it looks like there's not much truth to those rumors. When asked by a fan whether or not Zac Efron had been confirmed as the latest incarnation of Dick Grayson, Chris McKay took to Twitter and wrote: Those rumors of Zac Efron stepping in as Dick Grayson have been greatly exaggerated. Though he definitely has the physique, charisma, and on-screen presence to portray someone as badass as Nightwing, Chris McKay wants all of us to know that the Neighbors star has not been signed for the film just yet. Of course, Chris McKay's tweet doesn't provide much information beyond his decision to refute the Zac Efron rumors. We still have no idea who is actually in the running to portray Nightwing in the DCEU, and casting rumors have run rampant as the movie has developed. For all we know, Zac Efron could technically be in the running for the role; he just hasn't been confirmed yet. At this point, we're just going to have to wait and see what happens. Chris McKay has made no secret of the fact that he wants to perform an exhaustive search for Nightwing in his development of the young hero's movie. He has regularly kept fans updated on the status of the project in recent months, noting that everything needs to be perfect in order to "blow your mind." In layperson's terms: he's taking his time with the film, and he doesn't seem overly eager to announce any casting yet. With all of that said, what we do know about Nightwing has us very excited about where the DCEU could go from here. Chris McKay has spoken passionately about the film since signing on as its director last year, and he has promised insane action and a deep dive into Dick Grayson's past. Given the amount of depth he was able to add to The LEGO Batman Movie, we feel inclined to believe that he could do the same with the grown-up Robin. CinemaBlend will bring you more information related to the development of the Nightwing movie as new details (particularly details related to casting) become available to us. Until then, make sure to keep an eye on our 2018 movie premiere guide and start gearing up for the first solo adventure of Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa) later this year when James Wan's Aquaman premieres on December 21.
  17. Ron Howard is about to release Solo: A Star Wars Story, but it turns out Star Warsisn't the only franchise he's been meeting with Lucasfilm to discuss. 30 years ago Ron Howard directed Willow based on a story by George Lucas, and the director recently revealed that he has had conversations about potentially making a sequel to the cult classic. He even has at least the beginnings of an idea for the story, though his idea would focus on an entirely different character. According to Howard... I don't want to give away too much, but there is a little talk of Willow. We wouldn't call it Willow 2, I think it would focus a lot on Elora Danan, although Willow would have to be significantly involved. It makes a lot of sense. Any Willow sequel that went into production now would almost certainly need to be set decades after the original. At least if it expected to actually include the character played by Warwick Davis it would. As such, that also means that Elora Dana, the character who was as an infant in the first movie, will have grown up. Willow's plot revolved around a baby that was prophesized to defeat an evil queen, and while that has already taken place by the end of the movie, certainly anybody who did such a thing would continue to be an important person in the world. Elora Danan is the Harry Potter of her land, and she'd likely grow up with a lot of people expecting great things from her in much the same way. One also assumes that her connection to the man who saved her life would remain strong, which is why Willow as a character would remain important in a sequel. Any serious fans of the Willow franchise know that there actually were sequels to the film already, in the form of a trilogy of novels written by Chris Claremont with George Lucas back in the 1990s. Those books did continue the story and saw Elora Danan grow up. However, it doesn't sound from what Ron Howard tells Comicbook.com that he's thinking of adapting those novels. This instead sounds like an entirely new idea, though one that simply goes in a similar direction. It will be interesting to see what potentially comes of discussions around a Willowsequel. The original movie wasn't a massive hit, one of the reasons that theatrical sequels were never made, but it has certainly become a cult classic and as audiences have found the movie over time a strong following has built up around it, which perhaps means there are enough people interested in a sequel now that it could happen.
  18. The DC Extended Universe is a tricky place. Still very much in its infancy, the shared universe attempted to do what Marvel did with just a few short movies, to less than ideal results. As such, the future of the DCEU is largely in the air, with only Shazam!and Aquaman having concrete production and release dates. DC has become associated with announcing new and exciting projects, although it's unclear if the films will actually come to fruition. One of these recently announced projects is the Birds of Prey movie, and now we may have an idea when the female-centric team up movie will begin filming. Rumors are always swirling around superhero projects, and the latest report indicates that DC's Birds of Prey movie is aiming to start filming in January of 2019. Considering how early the film is in its development, this makes a great deal of sense. A proper script can be worked on, before offers start going out to cast members. Birds of Prey will bring a bunch of new characters into the DCEU, so the pressure is on to nail down a great cast. News of Birds of Prey's reported January start date, which comes to us from Heroic Hollywood, may be a bit surprising for the hardcore DC fans out there. While the fandom is eager for more exciting DC movies to hit theaters, it's been unclear how real Birds of Prey actually is. Since DC has revealed and backtracked so many big announcements, the fandom is a bit jaded. Plus, we have no idea which characters will be included, or what actors are going to be cast as the iconic characters. But if this report is to be believed, then we may be getting some answers sooner rather than later. Just a few months ago it was announced that director Cathy Yan would be helmingthe Birds of Prey movie. This new team up film likely will bring Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn back to the DCEU, after being one of the only redeeming factors of Suicide Squad. Robbie herself has expressed interest in pairing Harley with more female characters, with Birds of Prey seeming like the perfect choice to do so. Aside from Harley, it's been strongly hinted that Birds of Prey will also focus on Batgirl. Now the question is: which one? In most version of the all-female team, OG Batgirl Barbara Gordon is the team leader. But rather than being on the field, she's commanding as her alter ego Oracle, after the Killing Joke plot line paralyzed the vigilante. Other common members of the team include Huntress, Black Canary, and other villains like Catwoman and Poison Ivy. CinemaBlend will be sure to update you on all things DC. The next installment is Aquaman on December 21, 2018. In the meantime, check out our 2018 release listto plan your next trip to the movies.
  19. The next collaboration between Mark Wahlberg and director Peter Berg looks to take the action and drama of their previous films and amp everything up in a big way. The first trailer for Mile 22 is here and it is full of explosive action that is sure to get the audiences' blood pumping. Check it out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFlZfsIHgpE Mile 22 sees Mark Wahlberg leading a team of elite fighters who work for an organization known as Overwatch. In addition to Wahlberg, the team includes Ronda Rousey and The Walking Dead's Lauren Cohan among others. The trailer informs us that Overwatch exists as a "third option" when neither standard military nor diplomatic options will work. This third option appears to involve a lot of very large guns. Overwatch is supposed to be part of the CIA according to the Mile 22marketing material, but it's one of those parts of the CIA that the U.S. government doesn't admit actually exists. The plot of Mile 22 sees radioactive material go missing and the Overwatch team tasked with getting the guy who knows where it is out of an unnamed Southeast Asian nation in exchange for the information. Of course, the people who don't want him talking are going to go to whatever lengths are necessary to keep him quiet, which leads to the bulk of the movie appearing to be a caravan of our heroes attempting to make it to the airfield, found 22 miles away, to escape while lots of other people try to kill them. Mile 22 marks the fourth collaboration between director Peter Berg and Mark Wahlberg, who previously worked on Lone Survivor, Deepwater Horizon, and Patriot's Day. One thing those previous three films had in common was that they were based on actual events, but Mile 22 is an entirely fictional story, and it's clear that has given the filmmakers license to go a bit more action heavy, not that the other movies were ever really lacking in that department, but Mile 22 certainly comes across as more of an "action movie" than the previous films. Not that I'm saying that's a bad thing. Mile 22 looks like a lot of fun. Mark Wahlberg has shown that he's a solid action actor and with co-stars like Ronda Rousey, who is fairly new to the movie business, but is certainly credible and capable when it comes to action, we can be sure we're going to get some great fight sequences. It's also nice to see Lauren Cohen get a major big-screen opportunity as the actress has built a decent fan base from her work on The Walking Dead. We don't have too much longer to wait to see more of Mile 22. The film will hit theaters on August 3.
  20. Deadpool 2 isn't even here yet, but we already know what comes next for the fast-talking comic book antihero, a team-up movie with the rest of X-Force. It's something actor Ryan Reynolds thinks will be good for his character. While Deadpool will have led a pair of superhero movies himself by the time we see an X-Force movie, Reynolds says putting Wade Wilson in a team will be good, as it means the movie doesn't need to be about Deadpool, so the story has more freedom. Also, putting Deadpool in a team is sure to bring plenty of comedy. According to Reynolds... I see it being a real ensemble on a lot of levels just because I think it's interesting for Deadpool to kinda function in the way he does in his own universe. You always get to sort of find some way to position him as the underdog or take everything away from him, but for him to function in an ensemble [in X-Force] is a lot of fun. I think there's a real opportunity to not burden the narrative by shattering Wade's life, so then at the beginning our movie you get to have him just be part of the team, which is obviously a very challenging prospect for someone like Wade Wilson. While the Deadpool movies are great (seriously, the second one is even better than the first), it's certainly true that if you continue to make Deadpool the main character, you have to continually find ways to make him the underdog again and again, it has the potential to get repetitive and redundant, something Deadpoolwould probably point out in voice over the third or fourth time this happened. By making the character's next outing a team movie, the story can be something that includes him rather than it being something about him. Ryan Reynolds tells Collider that while there is not a script for the X-Force movie yet, there is a story that has been agreed upon, so while this one won't be jumping into production next week, the movie is certainly moving forward. To talk too much about what might be in store for the film would spoil Deadpool 2, and we won't be doing that here. On the downside, for those who really love the Deadpool movies, it sounds like X-Force, while it will include Deadpool, could potentially be a very different movie. It will be interesting to see not only how the character handles a team, but how the audience handles a movie that treats the character as simply one member of a larger ensemble. We'll find out at some point, though X-Force has no official release date, so we don't know exactly when.
  21. Since The Fast and The Furious: Tokyo Drift, writer Chris Morgan has been the engine behind the storytelling of Fast and Furious franchise. From his pen, characters like Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw have sprung forth with smoking E-brakes, clenched fists, and witty one liners to spare. It's the sort of stuff that the franchise found its footing with, eventually turning it into the eight entry giant that we all know and love. Well, that's about to change, as Morgan is out, and writer Daniel Casey is in for Fast & Furious 9. Coming in off the strength of two scripts, this August's Kin and an unproduced superhero riff entitled The Heavy, Casey has been drafted at a time when Chris Morgan's fellow Fast & Furious stalwart, Justin Lin, is returning to the director's chair for the first time since Fast & Furious 6. Though according to THR, Morgan's departure is more of a lateral move than a total removal. While Morgan may not be working on the series proper, he's going to be producing and writing the Hobbs & Shaw spin-off, which sees Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham's newly forged power duo taking off on an adventure of their own. On the surface, this might give long time fans of the mega blockbuster franchise pause, as the Fast & Furious movies were running pretty strong. With Chris Morgan's hand on the wheel, Dom, Letty, Brian, and Mia have seen some of their best days, their most thrilling moments, and even their most bittersweet scenes. Not to mention, while The Fate of the Furious may have still been a banner success for the series, there's still a bit of fatigue that could be felt in the film's story. With that in mind, Daniel Casey's hiring could also be seen as the thing that these last couple of films are looking for. With Fast 9 and Fast 10 acting as the last two films in the series proper, getting a fresh perspective for those final moments is a really good idea. Considering that Chris Morgan has worked on six Fast & Furious films over the course of 11 years of franchise history, he's already had quite a stretch in a world that lives a quarter of a mile at a time. Any writer, no matter how good they are, knows when it's time to leave the desk and let a new wordsmith take the reins. So letting Daniel Casey bring a new mind to this established canon could push things in a direction that they've never gone in. Like, say, the very sci-fi friendly realm of space. Bringing on Daniel Casey gives the Fast & Furious franchise some fresh oil to the story engine, while having Chris Morgan working on Hobbs & Shaw gives the spin-off a chance to be a long lasting success in its own right. As the sun sets on Dominic Toretto and his band of rogues, this is the best life this intellectual property can be living, as both an explosive finale and an incendiary beginning are both about to kick off. More specifically, we'll see that finale starting on Fast 9'sApril 10, 2020 release date, with Hobbs & Shaw looking like it'll take off on July 26, 2019. So if you were looking to see something other than Deadpool 2 this weekend, you'll have to check our 2018 release schedule to find what's out there.
  22. Last week, our first look at Shane Black's The Predator was something that sent shockwaves through the internet. Unfortunately for Black and 20th Century Fox, the wavelength of that message ranged from "eh" to "meh" on the anticipation meter, which is not very comforting when you take into account that this is the writer/director's return to the franchise he helped start as a writer on John McTiernan's 1988 original. So surely what's good for Arnie should be good for this new crop of warriors, right? Well, that's exactly what we think, and there's one way that Fox can right the ship ASAP: they can cut together and release a red-band trailer for The Predator to show off the new movie's more mature elements. After watching the trailer for The Predator, there was one problem that glared out of the audience like the trademark tracer laser of the titular creature's armor: it doesn't look or feel like a Predator movie in this trailer. Starting with Jacob Tremblay playing with pieces of said armor that cause a Predator ship to crash land on Earth isn't exactly something that screams "time to take Old Painless out of the bag." Mix that with the beats of Olivia Munn's hybridization plotline, and you begin to feel like you're watching a trailer that's more at home in the Alien vs. Predatoruniverse, and not the Predator films of the late 80's/early 90's. Not to mention, this trailer is too clean looking for a Predator film, giving the whole affair an antiseptic sort of air to it. Now how does a red-band trailer fix that? As it turns out, it can do so rather simply. The Predator is part of a franchise where violence and hardcore action are the bread, butter and ammunition of what's going down at the end of the day. So taking out the hybridization aspect would not only give us more room for the violence and profanity-laden cream that this coffee needs, it also would save a nice surprise for the audience that hasn't watched that first trailer already. It's no secret that this new sequel is being made to look up to its destructive predecessors, so why hide all of the fun stuff? The best part about this is that it's not terribly hard based on the material in the first trailer. Making those cuts leaves you with the perfect base for a more mature look into The Predator to work off of. Taking out the more sci-fi aspect of the film leaves room for more dreadful mystery, carnage filled action and earmuff-friendly wise cracks to provide a true R-rated look into Shane Black's latest action masterpiece. To be frank, that's what your main audience for this film is going to be looking for, and there's already a trailer that best shows what truly marketing a film with Black's unique talents should look like. Take a look at the red-band for The Nice Guysbelow and see what we're talking about. There's a lot of stuff that The Nice Guys marketed right that The Predator didn't. It shows Shane Black's poetic usage of profanity and action violence that you wouldn't get away with showing in a standard green-band trailer, with the former shining especially in that trailer. You know that some of these scenes with Holbrook and company are going to have off-kilter dialogue that isn't exactly safe for work, and you especially know that if they brought Black back for a Predatorsequel, he's going to tackle it with the same level of humor and peril he did with that first film. So why not show off some of the fresh, quotable dialogue that the man is going to sell to audiences come this September? Since this is an obvious teaser, it doesn't have to be a lot, but a more substantial taste would do wonders. As for the violence, that kind of ties into a note we had about the current trailer. Now, after his performances in films like Room and Wonder, the fact that Jacob Tremblay is going to be the child lead in this film isn't scary. The young actor clearly knows how to handle himself in movies like this, so it's not like he's going to be the stock "so precocious he ruins the movie" lead. Again, this is a strength of Shane Black's, which is also shown in the Nice Guys red band trailer above. While his character is going to be an important part of this film's story, a more mature trailer could showcase the film's young child lead in some R-rated peril, without betraying his character. There's a hint of this with the moment between Tremblay and Olivia Munn when she protects her young co-star from a Predator's aim, and if there was maybe a little more of a leaning into that scene, it would have helped immensely. Whoever gave notes on this should be given a copy of the original film and made to try again once they've seen what they're truly dealing with here. Fox, if you know your talent and your business, you should be hot on getting a Predator trailer with all of the blood and swears we know and love from this franchise. Deadpool 2 hits theaters this Thursday, and with the notes above, you could have some serious marketing muscle to promote The Predator's September 14th release date. Even if you can't make that date, the sooner you can push this puppy out, the better, because in terms of selling this franchise, this trailer is one ugly motherfucker.

  24. University of Waterloo chemists have found a much faster and more efficient way to store and process information by expanding the limitations of how the flow of electricity can be used and managed. In a recently released study, the chemists discovered that light can induce magnetization in certain semiconductors -- the standard class of materials at the heart of all computing devices today. "These results could allow for a fundamentally new way to process, transfer, and store information by electronic devices, that is much faster and more efficient than conventional electronics." For decades, computer chips have been shrinking thanks to a steady stream of technological improvements in processing density. Experts have, however, been warning that we'll soon reach the end of the trend known as Moore's Law, in which the number of transistors per square inch on integrated circuits double every year. "Simply put, there's a physical limit to the performance of conventional semiconductors as well as how dense you can build a chip," said Pavle Radovanovic, a professor of chemistry and a member of the Waterloo Institute for Nanotechnology. "In order to continue improving chip performance, you would either need to change the material transistors are made of -- from silicon, say to carbon nanotubes or graphene -- or change how our current materials store and process information." Radovanovic's finding is made possible by magnetism and a field called spintronics, which proposes to store binary information within an electron's spin direction, in addition to its charge and plasmonics, which studies collective oscillations of elements in a material. "We've basically magnetized individual semiconducting nanocrystals (tiny particles nearly 10,000 times smaller than the width of a human hair) with light at room temperature," said Radovanovic. "It's the first time someone's been able to use collective motion of electrons, known as plasmon, to induce a stable magnetization within such a non-magnetic semiconductor material." In manipulating plasmon in doped indium oxide nanocrystals Radovanovic's findings proves that the magnetic and semiconducting properties can indeed be coupled, all without needing ultra-low temperatures (cryogens) to operate a device. He anticipates the findings could initially lead to highly sensitive magneto-optical sensors for thermal imaging and chemical sensing. In the future, he hopes to extend this approach to quantum sensing, data storage, and quantum information processing.
  25. We know that Twitter is littered with misinformation. But how good are the social media platform's most active users at detecting these falsehoods, especially during public emergencies? Not good, according to new University at Buffalo research that examined more than 20,000 tweets during Hurricane Sandy and the Boston Marathon bombing. The study, published today (May 11) in the journal Natural Hazards, examined four false rumors -- two each from the marathon and hurricane, including an infamous falsehood about the New York Stock Exchange flooding. Researchers examined three types of behavior. Twitter users could either spread the false news, seek to confirm it, or cast doubt upon it. Researchers found: 86 to 91 percent of the users spread false news, either by retweeting or "liking" the original post. 5 to 9 percent sought to confirm the false news, typically by retweeting and asking if the information was correct. 1 to 9 percent expressed doubt, often by saying the original tweet was not accurate. "To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to investigate how apt Twitter users are at debunking falsehoods during disasters. Unfortunately, the results paint a less than flattering picture," says the study's lead author Jun Zhuang, PhD, associate professor in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering in UB's School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. Even after the false news had been debunked on Twitter and traditional news media outlets, the study found that: Less than 10 percent of the users who spread the false news deleted their erroneous retweet. Less than 20 percent of the same users clarified the false tweet with a new tweet. "These findings are important because they show how easily people are deceived during times when they are most vulnerable and the role social media platforms play in these deceptions," says Zhuang, who is conducting similar research concerning Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma. On a more positive note, the study found that while Twitter users are likely to spread false news during disasters, Twitter and other media platforms move quickly to correct the misinformation. Additionally, Zhuang says it's important to note that the study does not consider Twitter users who may have seen the original tweets with false news and decided to ignore them. "It's possible that many people saw these tweets, decided they were inaccurate and chose not to engage," says Zhuang, who was recently awarded a $392,000 National Science Foundation (NSF) grant to work on additional studies, including understanding what factors prompt Twitter users to ignore certain posts during emergencies, and the best ways to debunk false news.
