  1. Big news for tabletop roleplaying fans rolled out this past week, as the folks over at Paizo Publishing announced an upcoming testing phase for the Second Edition of their hit RPG, Pathfinder. https://youtu.be/UlBP0lEQ1Qo In the above video, Paizo's Erik Mona and Jason Bulmahn lay out all of the details pertaining to the upcoming open playtest for Pathfinder: Second Edition. As you likely noticed, I said "open playtest," which means anyone and everyone who wants to help shape the final version of the game is invited to do so. The Pathfinder Playtest book will be available on Aug. 2, with folks able to play the game to their heart's content and then report back to the team at Paizo with their findings. If you don't like the way a rule works, notice confusing explanations or contradicting guidelines, this testing phase will be the time to make your concerns heard. The plan is to take all of that player feedback and finalize the core rulebook, which Paizo aims to have ready to roll for the series' tenth anniversary in 2019. This is actually a pretty common practice for big RPGs like this, which Paizo actually utilized back in 2009 for the first edition of the game. If you haven't heard about Pathfinder yet, you're likely new to tabletop RPGs. That's not a knock against anyone, just a comment on how popular the game has become over the years. Go to any tabletop store and you will likely find a massive shelf full of Pathfinder books. While Dungeons & Dragons has enjoyed a resurgence in success following the launch of Fifth Edition, things weren't always so sunny for the granddaddy of RPGs. You see, fans loved the game's Third Edition, as well as the updated version, 3.5. When Fourth Edition came out, though, a lot of folks felt the game had strayed too far from what made it so fun to play in the first place. That's actually where Paizo comes in. They took those 3.5 rules and reshaped them into their own system, which eventually became Pathfinder. But while many fans have grown to love the streamlined, player-friendly version of Dungeons & Dragons' Fifth Edition. Many still prefer the crunchier, more rules-heavy version of adventuring offered by Pathfinder. Still, every system could use some refining, which is where the upcoming Second Edition comes in. The game has been out for 10 years, more than enough time to find out what works, what people like and what areas could use some TLC. Since Paizo Publishing launched Starfinder last year -- a sci-fi take on Pathfinderfeaturing refined rules and systems -- we figure this new version of Pathfinder will make a lot of those same adjustments. It'll be exciting to see how the community receives those changes and, following the open testing, how that same community will help shape the final game.
  2. Charlie Puth's hit song We Don't Talk Anymore was inspired by a nasty bout of food poisoning. The 26-year-old singer enjoyed worldwide success with the smash hit track, which featured Selena Gomez, in 2016. But opening up about the motivation to write the tune, Charlie admitted that it was an unusual situation that gave him the idea for the song. "I was overseas one time and got this horrible stomach pain just from this undercooked food," Charlie said during an Apple Music Beats 1 clip on Monday (14May18). "As I was moaning in bed in my hotel room, I came up with this really good song idea. And that song idea was We Don't Talk Anymore, which is kind of strange." Elsewhere during the interview, as Charlie answered questions from fans, he was asked to name the songs that make him cry. "All By Myself by Celine Dion, the David Foster arrangement," he replied. "Before the third chorus, she's singing in A-major and it's all a capella and you're like, 'Are they gonna do something?'" Last week, Charlie released his new album Voicenotes, which he is hoping will be another hit for him. The record has significant jazz influences, which the star is hoping his younger fans will enjoy. "The whole album is jazz disguised as pop music," he told reporters at a press conference recently. "I've established a vibe where my music, it might lean adult in a way, but I still have 12-year-olds, teenagers, pre-teenagers - they are all singing the music. "And that makes me the happiest guy ever because I'm secretly 'edumacating' them, whether they like it or not."
  3. Singer/actress Willow Smith has shocked her mother Jada Pinkett Smith by confessing to self-harming during the height of her struggles with fame. The 17-year-old has previously opened up about the difficulties she experienced emotionally after the huge success of her Whip My Hair hit in 2010, but in a new chat, Willow reveals she was so depressed, she lost her "sanity" and ended up cutting her wrists. The young star went public with her personal trauma during a recent episode of Red Table Talk, the new Facebook Watch show she hosts with actress Jada and her grandmother Adrienne Banfield-Jones, and the family matriarchs were stunned by the revelation. "It was after that whole Whip My Hair thing and I had just stopped doing singing lessons and I was kind of just in this grey area of, 'Who am I? Do I have a purpose? Is there anything I can do besides this?'" Willow recalled, going back seven years to when she was 10, as the three women discussed what they considered to be their "greatest loss". "After the tour and the promotion and all of that, they (label bosses) wanted me to finish my album," she continued. "And I was like, 'I'm not gonna do that'. And after all of that kinda settled down and it was like a kind of lull, I was just listening to a lot of dark music. It was just so crazy and I was plunged into this black hole, and I was cutting myself." Clearly shocked by the revelation, Jada asked, "What? When were you cutting yourself? I didn't see that part. Cutting yourself where?" "On my wrist," Willow replied, as she showed off the fading marks. "I mean, you can't even see it but there's still a little something there... (I) totally lost my sanity for a moment there. I never talk about it because it was such a short weird point in my life. But you have to pull yourself out of it." The teen, whose father is Will Smith, only shared the extent of her troubles with a close friend, and now admits she quickly put a stop to her method of pain relief when she realised it was "actually psychotic". Still shocked by her daughter's heartbreaking secret, Jada said, "Willow, I had no idea. I never saw any signs of that."
  4. Rita Ora has opened up about her relationships with men and women while apologising for offending fans with her bisexual anthem Girls. The 27-year-old singer has teamed up with Cardi B, Charli XCX and Bebe Rexha on the tune, which features the chorus lyrics "Sometimes I just wanna kiss girls, girls, girls/Red wine, I just wanna kiss girls, girls girls", and boasts about how "open-minded" the singer is. She sings: "I'm 50/50, and I'm never gonna hide it." Following the release of the track, Rita was asked if she is bisexual, but she declined to label herself, stating, "I think the way... If people look at it like that, it's very narrow-minded, and I don't think that's what this record is. I don't think that that even matters." However, she has now revealed she has been in relationships with men and women in an apology letter she posted on Twitter on Monday (14May18), after some fans and fellow artists, including pop singer Hayley Kiyoko, criticised the song's "tone deaf" lyrics as "dangerous" because they "completely belittle and invalidate the very pure feelings of an entire community". In her apology, Rita explains the tune "was written to represent my truth and is an accurate account of a very real and honest experience in my life". "I have had romantic relationships with women and men throughout my life and this is my personal journey," she adds. "I am sorry how I expressed myself in my song has hurt anyone," she continues. "I would never intentionally cause harm to other LGBTQ+ people or anyone. Looking forward, I hope that continuing to express myself through my art will empower my fans to feel as proud of themselves as I'm learning to feel about who I am. I have strived to be a contributor to the LGBTQ+ community throughout my entire career and always will be."
  5. Pop star Pink has no qualms about turning her back on touring if her children ever tire of life on the road. The Just Give Me a Reason hitmaker is currently in the midst of her Beautiful Trauma World Tour, with her husband Carey Hart and their daughter Willow, six, and son Jameson, 16 months, joining mum on the tour bus. However, Pink insists she wouldn't hesitate to drastically scale back her live performances if the hectic schedule is no longer fun for her family. "When touring stops working for the kids, if they decide they just want to be home and have a normal life, whatever that means, I'll stop because they are by far the priority," Pink explains to Redbook magazine. However, the singer admits she is proud to show her kids what mum does for a living. "I think it's cool that they get to see their mum be the boss and work really freaking hard to realise a dream," she continues. "I'd say it's 95 per cent (of touring) positive." For now, Pink is happy to juggle her personal life with her professional commitments, because she has found the perfect balance. "When I left (for the Truth About Love Tour in 2013), Willow was 14 months, and I would come offstage and breastfeed her," she recalls. "That was our bonding time and some of my favourite moments. Jameson is now doing the same thing." And the busy star is adamant enduring all the ups and downs of life as a working mum without much outside help has been key to her personal and professional growth. "If I had nannies raising my kids and just wanted to be a rock star and party all the time, I wouldn't be successful and I wouldn't be happy," Pink shares. "I've never juggled so many damn plates in my life, but it's because I want to. I enjoy it." "I have my two kids with me," she adds. "I'm working my butt off and feel really focused. I feel seen and heard and like the things I'm saying and showing are the right things. I just feel really proud of this journey."
  6. Sam Smith is reportedly locked in a legal battle with his former label to prevent the release of music he recorded before he became famous. According to editors at The Sun, the Stay with Me singer is suing Flipbook Music to stop it from releasing two albums which he recorded before he hit the big time. In 2016, Flipbook reportedly announced the release of Sam’s unofficial debut album Diva Boy and released the first single Momentarily Mine, allegedly without seeking his consent, which prompted the star to call in his lawyers. “Sam has worked tirelessly on his pop star image, pouring his heart and soul into two official albums he is proud of and honing his hunky new look," a source told the British newspaper. "Now he fears he will become a laughing stock if these tracks see the light of day." The then-teenage singer recorded the "cheesy tunes" when he started out in the music business as an aspiring singer. “But he had no artistic control and left on bad terms when he refused to let the tracks be released, realising they did not represent him as an artist," continued the source. "That was in 2008, but Flipbook isn’t backing down and Sam is doing everything in his power to block the release." "It’s been tough – things have got very messy," the source added. Sam has achieved huge success in the music business since the release of his debut album In the Lonely Hour and his 2017 release The Thrill of It All, which hit No.1 in the UK and topped the U.S. Billboard 200 album chart. He also won an Oscar for his James Bond theme tune Writing’s On The Wall, from the movie Spectre. A section on his former label's website dedicated to the singer attributed his "overnight success" to "three pivotal years 2007-2010 Sam spent with Flipbook Music where his dreams were nurtured, his talents uncovered, developed and promoted... all of which allowed his current label, Capitol Records, to ‘spot him’."
  7. Rapper Meek Mill surprised fans at the Rolling Loud Festival in Florida on Saturday (12May18) when he returned to the stage for the first time since his prison release. The 31-year-old, real name Robert Rihmeek Williams, was released on bail in late April (18) after lawmakers in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania overturned a judge's decision to keep him locked up for violating his probation linked to a 2008 drug and gun conviction. He had been sentenced to two-to-four years behind bars in November (17). The hip-hop star has made a number of public appearances since regaining his freedom, but this weekend, he joined DJ Khaled onstage during his set at the Miami event to thrill attendees with an unexpected performance. Meek delivered renditions of Dreams and Nightmares, On the Regular, Ima Boss, and 1942 Flows as the audience cheered. He also introduced fellow artist Tory Lanez to the stage for their collaboration, Litty. "It feels good to be back and free in front of the motherf**king people," he told fans. "Thank you to everybody that supported me. They tried to take my freedom, they tried to crush my dreams. But now we're in Miami glowing the f**k up (making a huge transformation). Let's get it!" Meek wasn't Khaled's only surprise guest - the DJ also joined forces with rap mogul Sean 'Diddy' Combs for a special appearance. The news of Meek's festival set comes just days after the MC admitted he was "almost scared to rap" again as the pressure to make a strong music comeback builds following his release from prison. "I ain't rap in eight months," he confessed to New York media personality Angie Martinez. "I ain't write one rap in jail... I can only rap when I feel good. I use beats to write, there wasn't any beats in jail (sic)." Meek is due back in court in June (18). His lawyers are currently fighting to have his original conviction dismissed after two of the police officers who testified against the MC in his decade-old case were named in a local corruption scandal.
  8. Rihanna, Justin Bieber, and Drake were among the stars who showered their mums with love online for International Mother's Day on Sunday (13May18). The Work hitmaker kicked off celebrations for her family matriarch, Monica Fenty, by posting a series of snaps of the pair through the years. "beautiful. sweet. strong. humble. gang. - @monica_fenty Happy Mother's Day to my fav (sic)!!!," she wrote on Instagram. "sending love to all the mothers, the mothers to be, and the ones who stepped in to be mothers to those who can't be with theirs today! God bless you not just today, but everyday for the thankless and selfless jobs that you do! You're greatly appreciated!!" Bieber also shared an old snap of his mother, Pattie Mallette, as he quoted lyrics from Boyz II Men's A Song for Mama in the accompanying caption. Fellow Canadian, rapper Drake, also dug out a picture from his childhood, and wrote, "Thank you mama for the nine months you carried me through... Happy Mother’s Day to all the goddesses world wide." Chance the Rapper saluted the ladies who helped to shape him into the man he is today, taking to Twitter to post, "Happy Mother’s Day to my woman, my mother, my mama jann and all the other women in my life who developed and disciplined me. Thank you for holding me up and holding me accountable". Meanwhile, Reese Witherspoon tipped her hat to "all the mothers around the world", tweeting, "You’re my heroes... You have the hardest job on earth- to care for, nurture and give love to the next generation!" Referencing her own family, she added, "It’s my greatest joy being a mom to these 3 wonderful kids. I share this day with you ALL! #MothersDay". Pink also paid tribute to her fellow working mums, writing, "On Mother’s Day I wanna give a shout out to all the mamas out there busting their butts to put food on the table and love in the hearts of their little ones. I salute you." And Madonna remembered her late mum with a touching Instagram message. "Dearest Mother...........You suffered a lot and were not encouraged to follow your dreams or express yourself freely!," she began. "I hope I have been able to carry the Torch for you and that somewhere you are smiling and proud! Happy Mothers Day to you and all Mothers who have struggled, are struggling and continue to struggle. #nevergiveup #mothers #warriors #queens". Other stars honouring their mothers on social media included Chris Pratt, Jessica Biel, Priyanka Chopra, and Chris Evans.
  9. Jennifer Lopez has "mixed emotions" about walking away from her hit police drama Shades of Blue, because her character had really become a part of her. The superstar has portrayed Detective Harlee Santos on TV since 2016, but last month (Apr18), network bosses at NBC announced the upcoming third season would be its last. Jennifer, who also executive produces the series, has now revealed she made the decision to end the show on a high because she is itching to "move on" to new projects. "It's mixed emotions with it (Shades of Blue ending) because I haven't really done a character that I've stayed with for three years like that in the longest time...," she told breakfast show Today. "This Harlee Santos really became a part of me for three years, and to let it go, and move on to do other things (was tough)." J.Lo explains continuing with another season would have further delayed other ideas she's been eager to develop, so she had to make a choice. "We have so many projects we put on hold during those three years (doing Shades of Blue)," she shared. "Every time, we were like, 'Should we do another season...?' and NBC were into it... and I was just like, 'I can't, I have to go do some other things.'" Likening the move to her previous stint as a judge on American Idol, the singer/actress continued, "It's almost like when I was doing Idol, I was like, 'I have to go tour, I have to go (do other things)...' You know when it's time to move on." Lopez, who is putting the finishing touches to her upcoming Spanish album, is also wrapping up her hugely successful Las Vegas concert residency, and she's excited for the next chapter of her career. "I'm done with Vegas this year, I'm done with Shades this year," she said, "and moving on to a bunch of new projects that we have lined up over the next two years that I'm really excited about - and music, always music." The final run of Shades of Blue, which will consist of 10 episodes, premieres in the U.S. in June (18).
