  1. New footage from Michael Bay’s upcoming movie Ambulance shows how a bank robbery goes wrong for Jake Gyllenhaal and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. Directed and produced by Bay with Chris Fedak writing the script, the action-thriller is based on the 2005 Danish film of the same name. It focuses on the characters of Gyllenhaal and Abdul-Mateen as they steal an ambulance occupied by a paramedic (Eiza González). The project has been in the works since 2015. At one point, Patriot Games director Phillip Noyce was set to lead the film. That version of the movie never went into production, however, and Ambulance was revived in November 2020 with Bay signed on to direct. But while Ambulance is still months away, audiences now have a better sense of what it will consist of. Slated for a theatrical release by Universal Pictures in February 2022, new footage of the action-thriller has been revealed at CinemaCon. The footage begins in Los Angeles, focusing on a character named William (Abdul-Mateen). Viewers see William’s wife and child in the background, and it’s established that William and Gyllenhaal’s so far unnamed character are brothers. William, who served in the military, needs money for his wife’s surgery. Gyllenhaal’s character doesn’t have the money for William to borrow. He does, however, offer William a cut of a planned $32 million bank robbery. They initially argue, but ultimately agree. You can read the rest of the description of the Ambulance trailer released at CinemaCon below. Scenes of them casing the bank, including one of William robbing the vault. A cop knocks on the bank’s front door. Gyllenhaal answers, and the cop asks, “Why are you closed?” Cop and Gyllenhaal joke around; Gyllenhaal allows him inside, and one of the bank tellers goes about her job, serving the cop - all the while the cop doesn’t know the bank is being robbed. Things go sideways, and Gyllenhaal takes the cop hostage. All the robbers exit out the back and get in a shootout with the cops, and SWAT in another scene. Next scene is of Gyllenhaal and William trying to escape, but they get into an altercation with the cop they took hostage. William shoots the cop to save Gyllenhaal, when Gyllenhaal and the cop get in a fight. They leave the cop on the ground and run. Another officer arrives and calls for an ambulance, which arrives with Eiza Gonzalez as the medic. After a few quick action shots, Gyllenhaal and William hijack the ambulance. Next come scenes of LAPD patrolling the area for them, as they try to escape in the ambulance. Police ultimately find them in the ambulance and chase them. Then they attempt to help save the cop’s life so they don’t go to jail for murder. When the medic asks Gyllenhaal to help, he yells, “This looks like a f–king Atari game. I don’t f–king know!” Several scenes follow featuring the ambulance trying to escape the police, with Gyllenhaal verbally fighting with the police dispatch. A couple of signature Michael Bay explosions follow. The trailer ends with the ambulance running into a few police cars and causing a massive explosion. The footage indicates that Ambulance will likely begin as an emotional story between two brothers, and a man struggling to provide for his family. Then, gradually, as the film progresses, the action takes over. Ultimately, there may be uncertainty as to whether William and Gyllenhaal’s character will even survive their ordeal. The thriller is also notable for featuring Gyllenhaal’s return to a classic leading role, as the actor has generally favored more antagonistic and satirical characters recently in films like Velvet Buzzsaw and his turn as the Marvel villain Mysterio in Spider-Man: Far From Home. Looking at the success that Bay has generated, with a list of credits that include 1998’s Armageddon, 2001’s Pearl Harbor, and the Transformers movie franchise, the projects that he has directed and produced have grossed more than $7.8 million worldwide. For those concerned about the future of moviegoing, and whether the box office will go back to boasting big numbers on a regular basis, there’s sure to be a lot of hope that Ambulance becomes a hit when it premieres next year.
  2. Drake has landed four nominations for this year's Urban Music Awards. The 34-year-old rapper is up for the Most Creative Artist 2021 award at the UMAs, which celebrates its 18th anniversary next month on the 20th of September in London, but he will face strong competition from Kanye West, Vade, Jason Derulo, Soulja Boy, T-Pain, Shae Universe, and ENNY. Drake will also take on Soulja and several others - including Megan Thee Stallion and Doja Cat - in the Artist of the Year (USA) category, and he has a nod for Best Collaboration after 'Seeing Green', which he worked on with Nicki Minaj and Lil Wayne, was nominated. Doja and SZA's 'Kiss Me More' is also up for the accolade, as is Beyonce, Shatta Wale and Major Lazer's tune 'Already', which also has a nod in the Best Single category. Drake has his eye on that prize, too, after his song 'Wants and Needs' received a nomination, alongside the likes of former 'Love Island' star Wes Nelson's 'See Nobody', which also features Hardy Caprio. As well as her two battles with Drake and others, Beyonce is up for the Best Female Act gong against the likes of Dua Lipa, Lianne La Havas and Koffee. Dua will also be hoping to taste success in the Artist of the Year (UK) category, where she faces competition from acts such as Jorja Smith, Aitch, and Ed Sheeran. What's more, AJ Tracey has nods in both the Best Male Act and Best Album categories, and he is up against Dave and Headie One for both prizes. Launched 18 years ago, the Urban Music Awards now has annual versions in North America, the Caribbean, Africa, Asia, and Europe. Public voting is now live via the official UMA website. 3. Joni Mitchell has been named as the 2022 MusiCares Person of the Year. The eight-time Grammy Award winner is to be honoured by executives at the charity, which provides music professionals health and human services across a spectrum of needs. The MusiCares Person of the Year ceremony is one of the most prestigious events held during Grammy Week, and will include a dinner and tribute concert, featuring renowned musicians and other artists paying tribute to Mitchell. "I'm honoured to be chosen as Person of the Year by this great charity," the Big Yellow Taxi singer stated. "I look forward to being part of this gala that will help MusiCares continue their inspired work in providing a support system for those in need." Mitchell joins a prestigious list of recent MusiCares Person of the Year honourees including Fleetwood Mac, Dolly Parton, and Aerosmith. The event will be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center on 29 January, two nights before the 64th annual Grammy Awards. "We are so excited to bring together an amazing line-up of artists to celebrate the musical legacy of Joni Mitchell," added Laura Segura, executive director of MusiCares. "She is being honoured not only for her iconic music and lyrics, but for her trailblazing spirit and the inspiration she's brought to so many artists."
  4. Lizzo and Niall Horan sent their fans wild by flirting with each other during a TV interview. On Tuesday's episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the 33-year-old singer discussed her latest single, Rumors, with the night's guest host and former One Direction member, and Horan gushed over the rapper's achievements, saying she was his "beautiful woman". "With success comes fans and you know you've made it when your fans have their own name. Your fans go by what?" he asked before Lizzo laughed, "The Lizzbians." The 27-year-old joked he wanted to rename his fans the "Horan Dogs." Lizzo was quick to respond to the raunchy joke, saying, "I think you're giving me a one erection, baby." When asked about whether Drake had heard the Rumors lyric where she denies sleeping with him, the Truth Hurts hitmaker quipped, "Okay, so the original line was, 'No, I ain't f**k Niall yet.' The label said it was a little bit provocative. So I changed it to Drake, a safer bet." The singers ended the interview with a compatibility test, noting their fans had tried to pair them up before. Discussing prenup agreements to flatulence, Horan called Lizzo "the best guest ever" and they signed off by telling each other, "I love you." This is not the first time the singer has gotten flirty with fellow stars. Earlier this month, Lizzo joked on TikTok that she was pregnant with Captain America star Chris Evans' child, with the actor joking back that his mother "would be so happy."
  5. Cher has opened up about her lasting friendship with ex-boyfriend Val Kilmer. In a touching essay for People, the 75-year-old singer discussed falling "madly in love" with the actor after they met in the '80s. "He's like nobody I've ever known," she began. "He is exasperating and hysterical. Thrilling and funny, and doesn't do what anyone else does. I don't know how we stayed friends, we just did. We didn't try. We just were." Writing about when they met at a party hosted by mutual friend Meryl Streep, the entertainer reflected on how their 14-year age difference was a big deal at the time. "He was so young. Was he 22? What was I? I don't know. Thirty-something. It was a bigger deal back then," she recalled. "The truth was if I hadn't gone out with younger men, I would have never had a date. Younger men weren't intimidated by older women. But older men in my age category, they weren't having it." The Believe hitmaker wrote about how their sense of humour was key to maintaining their relationship, romantic or not. She revealed how the couple used nicknames for each other - Valus Maximus and Cherus Reprimandus - and that the actor always put an effort in with her kids. Val, the recently released documentary on the actor's life, shows his six-year battle with throat cancer. Cher shared the message she sent to him after she'd finished watching the film: "I said, 'Valus Maximus, I'm sorry if I did anything to p**s you off or hurt your feelings. I love you and your documentary was all things... I love the things that p**sed me off, the things that made me hysterical, amazed, hurt, astonished, etc. You are brave and beyond brilliant.'" The singer concluded by calling Kilmer a "Renaissance man", noting that the documentary shows "even the worst things" about his life and diagnosis because "he wanted to show you who he was".
  6. The one and only Elton John joined Fitzy & Wippa on Thursday morning. And nothing was off limits as the music legend addressed a controversial rumour involving a party he once threw on Sydney Harbour, involving Molly Meldrum. “There is an urban myth here in Australia, and I’d love to know if you can remember this. We want to know about one night where you threw and hosted a party on a huge boat in Sydney Harbour,” Fitzy began. “Now, we’ve heard that Molly missed the small boat to get out to the large boat – and the story goes that Molly couldn’t get to the party, and all of a sudden the water police come past and go, ‘Molly Meldrum! Oh my god, what are you doing?’ “He then said, ‘Oh I’ve missed my boat, there’s a party out on the Harbour that Elton is hosting.’ They said, ‘Jump on board, we’ll take you out!’ The water police then took Molly out to the boat, and as they approached… there may have been some things that were thrown off the side, seeing that the police were there.” Elton responded: “It sounds like something from my past, absolutely! Those of you who saw the film Rocketman, crazy things happened [back then] and I’ve done so many crazy things with Molly Meldrum.” “It sounds like Molly and it sounds like me – but I can’t confirm it because I can’t remember it. It doesn’t seem fictional to me, at all.” Meanwhile, Elton also revealed he recently went out for lunch in LA with The Kid LAROI and listed his favourite Aussie artists. “I love Amy Shark very much. I have a big soft spot for Winston Surfshirt, and of course Tame Impala. I’ve had Kevin Parker on my show, Amy, Tones and I,” Elton listed. “You watch them grow and… The Kid LAROI, I had on my show quite a long time ago now and he’s just become so big now. He’s such a great kid, I went for dinner with him recently in LA and we just had the best time.”
  7. ABBA are set to release new music next week with a new hologram comeback tour on the way. The 'Dancing Queen' hitmakers - made up Bjorn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, Agnetha Faltskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad - will drop their first new material in 39 years as they make a long-awaited comeback including a special show called 'ABBA Voyage'. An insider told The Sun newspaper: "ABBA are finally making their comeback and plan to release their first new music in 39 years next Friday — it’s huge.” Meanwhile, the 'ABBA Voyage' will include a documentary-style film following their return from working on new songs to creating a special purpose-build venue in East London for their Holograms show, which is due to open in May 2022. The performances will feature so-called 'ABBA-tars' as images of the musicians will be beamed onto the stage and perform their timeless tracks. The source added: "“Bjorn, Benny, Agnetha and Anni-Frid will all be there on the opening night. And they will finally unveil their ABBA-tars, which are like holograms of themselves. “The show will feature the ABBA-tars performing and speaking to the audience. It will be like taking a step back in time for those watching. "Fans should hold on to their hats because this is going to be one wild ride.” They've collaborated with 'Pop Idol' creator Simon Fuller on the plans, which they've been working on since 2019. The insider said: "Bjorn, Benny, Agnetha and Anni-Frid have been waiting for this moment for so long, they’re pinching themselves.” Bjorn himself confirmed new music was on the way from the 'Mamma Mia!' legends. Back in May, he said: "There will be new music this year, that is definite, it's not a case anymore of it might happen, it will happen.” The group went their separate ways in 1982, and performed together for the first time in decades in 2016 at a private event, which marked the 50th anniversary of the first meeting between songwriters Bjorn and Benny.
  8. Limp Bizkit have revealed new songs are set to drop "in rapid succession". The 'Rollin' hitmakers have reiterated that they have cancelled all performances this month, adding that the band are "all fine" while teasing new material in an update on their upcoming album. On their official Instagram Story, the group wrote: "To be more clear as some promoters are a bit behind on keeping you updated. "All of our scheduled performances were cancelled weeks ago (yes, we are all fine, thank you). "New songs will begin to leak, one after the other in rapid succession, very soon. Soon thereafter our new album will be released." The group haven't released a new album since 2011's 'Gold Cobra' and guitarist Wes Borland previously admitted frontman Fred Durst being a "perfectionist" has played a big part in the delay. He said: "He’s so talented, and I love him so much as a brother, but if he’s not ready to do it, he’s not ready to do it. "My whole thing is I force things, but I’m happy to make mistakes and get embarrassed and go, 'Oh, I shouldn’t have done that.' "But I just like to put stuff out. But he’s a perfectionist, so we’ll see when he’s ready to do it." The 'Break Stuff' group confirmed earlier this month that their live performances for August had been cancelled due to coronavirus concerns. They said in a statement at the time: "Out of an abundance of caution and concern for the safety of the band, crew and most of all the fans, the Limp Bizkit show this Monday and the remaining August tour is being cancelled. “Refunds are available at their points of purchase. All tickets purchased online will be automatically refunded.”
  9. Lil Nas X is finally letting fans in on the release date for his debut album. The rapper shared a trailer for his long-awaited LP, Montero, across social media on Wednesday - revealing it will be released on 17 September. "Creating this album has been therapy for me," the Old Town Road hitmaker wrote in the caption on Instagram. "I've learned to let go of trying to control people's perception of who I am, what I can do, and where I will be. I've realized the only opinion of me that really matters is my own." Nas, born Montero Lamar Hill, had recently said in an interview with Variety that the 15-track album will be much more "personal" than his debut EP, 7. The promo, which references his and Jack Harlow's prison-themed Industry Baby music video, shows the 22-year-old dressed up as a news anchor on MNN - Montero News Network. Nas pokes fun at the outrage surrounding the provocative hit. "Breaking news: power bottom rapper, Lil Nas X and his Caucasian friend led a prison escape this morning. This comes just months after the talentless homosexual was sentenced to five years in prison," he reports, wearing a white bowl-cut wig. "Investigators say anyone who comes into contact with the power bottom should contact authorities immediately," the anchor shouts, before it cuts to the rapper wearing his hot pink Industry Baby jumpsuit. An unreleased song plays as Nas drives out of a town named Montero in a teal convertible.
  10. The Wombats frontman Matthew 'Murph' Murphy is "full of fear" about the return of live music. The 'Let's Dance To Joy Division' hitmakers are set to play at Reading & Leeds Festival this weekend, and with the singer living Los Angles it means they haven't actually been on stage together since before the pandemic. Speaking to the Daily Star newspaper's Wired column, Murph said: "I'm simultaneously really excited and full of fear about the whole thing. "We haven't played for a while so we have had to do a lot of rehearsing. "It's going to be great, but I'm so aware of how close everyone is going to be at a festival." And while he's looking forward to being back on stage with bandmates Tord Øverland Knudsen and Dan Haggis, he hopes everything goes smoothly so he can return home. He added: "I definitely don't want to get the Delta variant and not be able to come back to the US. "So I'm excited but feel like I'm walking into some sort of apocalypse as well." The Wombats will release their fifth studio album 'Fix Yourself, Not The World' in January 2022, and they'll be promoting the record with a full UK arena tour including a huge headline show at The O2 in London in April. Murph said: "We've held off on touring for so long because of COVID. So doing the O2 in London is amazing. "I'm proud we are playing there because it hasn't been a straightforward path for The Wombats." Meanwhile, the upcoming 12-track album was recorded remotely, with Murph in Los Angeles, bassist Tord Overland Knudsen in Oslo and drummer Dan Haggis in London, while they worked with top producers including Jacknife Lee (U2, The Killers), Gabe Simon (Dua Lipa, Lana Del Rey), Paul Meaney (Twenty One Pilots, Nothing But Thieves), Mark Crew (Bastille, Rag'n'Bone Man) and Mike Crossey (The 1975, The War on Drugs, Yungblud). It's the first time the trio have created an album without being in the same room, which resulted in them experimenting even more with their sound. On what fans can expect, Dan previously said: "We're so excited for people to hear this new album! We've explored new genres and pushed ourselves further than ever musically. It will always stand out for us in our memories from our other albums as we recorded it across three cities during lockdown, and we weren't all in the same room at the same time!"
  11. Reading & Leeds Festival is offering COVID-19 vaccines at both sites this weekend. The annual dual site event - which takes place this year on August 27-29 and boasts headliners Liam Gallagher, Biffy Clyro, Catfish and the Bottlemen, Stormzy, Disclosure and Post Malone - is set to offer jabs to punters as part of the NHS' vaccination programme, which is currently focused on giving the vaccine to 16 and 17-year-olds across England. Organisers have confirmed there will be pop-up clinics are both Reading and Leeds - as well as a "vaccine bus" at the southern site - while they have promised fans will be able "to pick up a jab as easily as a beer or a burger". For Reading, COVID-19 vaccinations will be offered from 9.30am until 5pm today (26.08.21) through to Sunday (29.08.21), and then from 9am until 1pm the following day. For Leeds, the dates are the same but the times run 10am until 4pm and 8am to 11am respectively. It's noted that anyone under the influence of alcohol or drugs won't be allowed to have the vaccine. Dr. Nikki Kanani - a GP and deputy lead for NHS England’s vaccination programme - commented: “Thanks to the hard work of NHS staff and volunteers, more than half a million young people aged 16 and 17 have had their first dose as teams across the country have worked tirelessly to get their communities protected, vaccinating at convenient pop-up clinics in the park, at places of worship and stadiums, and now at Reading and Leeds. “It is great to see the return of live music and performances, and as festival-goers head to the main stage this weekend to see their favourite headliners, I am also urging anyone who hasn’t to add the ‘vaccine tent’ to their festival itinerary to get that lifesaving vaccine as the best protection we can get from coronavirus.”

  14. The Walking Dead season 11 is officially halfway finished filming. Season 11 will of course be the final go-around for AMC’s long-running drama set after the zombie apocalypse. Luckily for TWD fans that eleventh and final season is set to be extra-long, running for a total of 24 episodes. The first few of those 24 have indeed already been thoroughly teased, so fans know things are about to go down between Maggie and Negan, while Eugene and his party get into their own situation as captives of The Commonwealth. The Reapers are about to arrive too, and they’re going to be a problem for Daryl, as was teased by a recent season 11 image release. There’s a good chance Daryl is about to be reunited with his long-lost girlfriend Leah as well. Season 11 is indeed setting up to be the biggest and craziest ever for The Walking Dead. It will be quite some time before fans see it all play out, but as for the creative team behind the show, their work on season 11 has now reached a milestone as the show is officially halfway through filming the final season. TWD director of photography Duane Charles Manwiller made the announcement on Instagram along with an appropriate image. It’s of course momentous that The Walking Dead is finally set to end over ten years after entering the pop culture landscape. But that doesn't mean TWD is going away obviously. Fear the Walking Dead and The Walking Dead: World Beyond are both still playing out. And more spinoffs are coming including a Carol and Daryl show, the anthology show Tales of the Walking Dead and even a comedy take on the TWD universe. Fans have also been promised not one but three Rick Grimes movies that fully wrap up the story TWD kicked off all those years ago. Indeed, everything currently going on in the Walking Dead universe is seemingly just set up for those movies. Unfortunately progress on the further adventures of Rick Grimes is not exactly speeding along. In fact with the Rick Grimes movies still a long way off it’s been speculated that Rick himself could cameo at some point during The Walking Dead season 11. If that cameo does happen, it will likely take place well toward the end of the 24-episode run. So if Andrew Lincoln is coming back as Rick one last time on the show, it’s likely that cameo was not filmed as part of the now-completed first half. But no doubt a lot of shocking things were filmed, including the possible death of Maggie as teased by a recent Walking Dead trailer. Fans can find out how season 11 plays out when The Walking Dead returns to AMC on August 22, 2021.
  15. The What We Do In The Shadows season 3 trailer contained some major plot reveals for the highly rated mockumentary. Based on the 2014 film of the same name by series creators Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi, What We Do In The Shadows was recently renewed for a fourth season ahead of the season 3 premiere due to its enduring popularity. Released on Friday, August 13th, the official FX Networks trailer proved very lucky for fans expecting to see more character progression for their favorite Staten Island vampires. What We Do In The Shadows season 2 ends with Guillermo saving Nandor, Lazlo, Nadja, and Colin at the Nouveau Théâtre des Vampires, slaughtering many of their kin as a result. One of the big questions left unanswered at the end of the season was how the group would interact with Guillermo in WWDITS season 3's plot, with his successful rescue attempt juxtaposing that he has become a skilled vampire hunter. The new season preview teased some big changes for Guillermo and his vampiric roommates. These include elevated levels of power, new supernatural sports, and even a vacation for the group. Kayvan Novak, Matt Berry, Natasia Demetriou, Harvey Guillén, and Mark Proksch return, with Kristen Schaal additionally appearing to take on a bigger role as The Floating Woman. Here's every major reveal from the What We Do In The Shadows season 3 trailer. Guillermo STILL Won't Be Made A Vampire. Nandor opens the season 3 trailer by announcing that Guillermo will be "a fully-fledged member of the team," but when Guillermo dares to ask if that means he will be made a vampire, he is ridiculed by the rest of the group. It looks as if, despite his heroics as a vampire hunter in season 2, Guillermo is no closer to his ultimate goal of being bitten than he was in the pilot episode. Whether or not his dream ever comes to fruition, Guillermo's standing in the group is certainly changing, with his prowess as a vampire hunter shown several times in the trailer to be no longer hidden from the vampires. He is seen instinctively throwing stakes with precision at The Floating Woman, as well as wielding a hockey stick as a weapon before being lassoed off-screen. With season 2 of What We Do In The Shadows ending specifically on Lazlo, Nandor, and Nadja's reaction to Guillermo slaughtering countless vampires, it will be fascinating to see how the group dynamic shifts over the coming season. There Is A Power Vacuum In The Vampire World. One of the biggest reveals from the What We Do In The Shadows season 3 trailer is that Nandor, Lazlo, and Nadja have been elevated to the new leaders of the Vampiric Council. This event would have seemed unfathomable in season 2, given their lowly standing in the vampiric hierarchy of New York. Still, with Guillermo seemingly killing the previous vampiric council, it seems that the group has inherited the role. However, it is revealed that there is only one throne, and in later frames, the group is shown fighting over the seat of power. In particular, Nadja and Nandor are portrayed in the trailer as coveting the role of Supreme Leader and scheming against each other in the process, which will surely lead to hilarity and friction in equal measures as the season progresses. There Will Be Lots More Kristen Schaal In Season 3. Before season 3, Kristen Schaal only appeared in one episode of What We Do In The Shadows: The Trial. Initially an emissary for the Vampiric Council, Schaal's the Floating Woman is seen several times throughout the new trailer, introducing the vampires to the council throne as well as catching Guillermo's stakes at the house. With the well of characters surviving the Nouveau Théâtre des Vampires massacre looking very dry, giving the comedic class act of Schaal additional screen time is a smart move from the showrunners. Expect teleportation, transfiguration, and sarcasm from the Bob's Burgers regular throughout the new season. A New Twist On An Old Sport. Werewolves are introduced early in What We Do In The Shadows: they debuted in season 1, episode 3's 'Werewolf Feud.' In the episode, Lazlo is enraged to find werewolves have urinated on his topiary garden, sparking an investigation with shades of What We Do In The Shadows' spinoff, Wellington Paranormal. Nandor settles the feud by besting the werewolf leader in combat, but it seems the vampires have found a new arena to compete with the local Lycans: Kickball. Lazlo is shown hitting the ball at a werewolf with incredible force in the season 3 trailer, so it is likely there will be an episodes' worth of supernatural sporting shenanigans to enjoy. Atlantic City Is In The Cards. One of the most prominent segments of the season 3 trailer features the quintet living their best lives in Atlantic City. With the excitement shown by Lazlo, Nandor, and Nadja, it is a fair assessment that this is most likely the first excursion to a casino resort by the ancient vampires. Lazlo suffering during a chapel wedding (and likely feeding season 2's strongest vampire Colin) is as hilarious as it is clever. At the same time, Nadja's exclamation that an escalator feels like flying is surely only the tip of the iceberg as far as the group's gambling adventures go. If nothing else, the vampires are sure to find luck in Atlantic City, with several quick cuts in the preview showing them feasting in a hotel room. Nandor Is Having A Septcentennial Crisis. Living for 758 years, it is fair to say Nandor looks to be going through some significant ideological changes in the season 3 trailer. Nandor unsuccessfully flirts with a spa attendant in the Atlantic City segments, prompting him to admit he has not dated since he was the leader of Al-Quolanudar some 700 years ago. Towards the end of the highly-rated FX show preview, he is also shown contemplating his place in the world, asking Nadja, "do you ever wonder if there is more to life than this mindless killing and bloodlust?". While Nadja mocks him for his philosophizing, Nandor may seriously be considering his current reality. As the group's de-facto leader, Nandor's emotions hold great sway and may well spell big changes for the What We Do In The Shadows story as a result.
  16. Kathryn Hahn, who portrayed Agnes/Agatha Harkness in Marvel Studios’ WandaVision on Disney+, calls her character’s ending in the series a nightmare. The Emmy-nominated actress debuted as the titular pair’s “noisy neighbor” in the first MCU Phase 4 television series. As WandaVision paid homage to sitcoms of yesteryear, Hahn nailed every iteration before it was revealed Anges was “Agatha All Along”—a centuries-old witch desperate to known the secret to Wanda Maximoff’s (Elizabeth Olsen) power. Taking place after Avengers: Endgame, WandaVision sees Wanda inadvertently turn the town of Westfield into an isolated, idyllic sitcom reality (aka “the Hex”) in a subconscious attempt to cope with the loss of Vision (Paul Bettany). In WandaVision’s finale, Wanda, now Scarlet Witch, and Agatha went head to head. Thanks to some well-placed runes, Scarlet Witch was able to drain Agatha of her power and trap her within the role/mental prison of the noisy neighbor. Before Scarlet Witch left Westfield, the series deliberately left the door open for Agatha’s story to continue, with the latter saying, “you’re gonna need me.” Wanda seemed to agree with this, telling Agatha, “If I do, I know where to find you.” In a recent interview with The A.V. Club, Hahn spoke on her Emmy nomination for WandaVision and “The Series Finale.” Hahn was asked about telling The New York Times she didn’t necessarily view what happened to Agatha as a punishment but instead a much-needed rest and whether she still felt that way. Read her response below: “I’m glad you brought that up because I actually don’t. I think it’s kind of the worst. I kind of was making a joke when I said that. I actually do think it’s kind of the worst. I mean, to clip her wings and put her somewhere like that with boring people and not have anything to do. It’s the worst, it’s a nightmare. Yeah. I mean, [Wanda] basically lobotomized her.” Before Scarlet Witch “lobotomized” her, Agatha begged her not to. The breakout villain’s future remains somewhat uncertain, but Marvel Studios President has said that Hahn's next MCU gig “can’t come soon enough.” WandaVision’s post-credits scene saw Scarlet Witch experiment with the Dark Hold and hear the voices of her children (presumably from the multiverse). Olsen will reprise her role in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness alongside Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sorcerer Supreme. Given Agatha’s connection to Wanda and her warnings of chaos magic, it would make sense for Scarlet Witch to seek the dark witch’s help in this film. WandaVision's Agatha will likely wake up from her nightmare in Phase 4 as there are several projects she could appear in. This includes everything multiverse-related, from Loki and What If…? to Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. It’s also worth mentioning how Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) is seemingly recruiting people for the Dark Avengers. While Agatha doesn’t seem like the type to work under anyone, she would certainly jump at the opportunity to get one over on Scarlet Witch.
  17. Netflix just released its latest dramedy, The Chair, and here's what to expect for season 2. The series was created by longtime actress Amanda Peet and her creative partner Annie Wyman, and thus far, it's gotten solid critical reviews and a warm audience reception. The series stars Grey's Anatomy and Killing Eve star Sandra Oh as Ji-Yoon Kim, the first-ever woman and person of color to become the Chair of the English department at the fictional Pembroke University. Once a prestigious and renowned school, Pembroke's English department is hemorrhaging students thanks to half its faculty being dinosaurs who refuse to change: Dean Paul Larson (David Morse), who is more concerned about money and optics than actually transforming the school, Profesor Elliot Rentz (Bob Balaban), who has outsized influence, and Professor Joan Hambling (Holland Taylor), who is brilliant but embittered that she's been undermined and passed over for so many opportunities over her long career due to her being a woman. There are a few bright spots in Pembroke's English department, including Ji-Yoon herself, as well as brilliant young professor Yaz McKay (Nana Mensah), who struggles to become the first Black woman to ever gain tenure at Pembroke, and rockstar professor Bill Dobson (The Mindy Project's Jay Duplass), who is beloved by the students and serves as the love interest for Ji-Yoon. Unfortunately, Bill's been an absolute trainwreck ever since his wife died a year ago and a thoughtless moment in one of his lectures he gives while hungover blows up into an enormous PR scandal for the school. Ji-Yoon's new role as Chair quickly transforms into a nightmare as the stresses of the job take hold and she struggles to fix it all while finding time for her adopted daughter, Ju-Hee (Everly Carganilla) and her hen-pecking dad, Habi (Ji-yong Lee). With so much going on, The Chair season 1 covered a lot of ground in one short season, leaving lots of story left to explore in a season 2. Here's what to expect from Netflix's The Chair season 2. The Chair Season 2 Renewal At the moment, The Chair has not yet been renewed for a second season. Initially, it was conceived as a miniseries, which puts context around the first season being so extremely short with just six half-hour episodes. If it only ever gets one season, the storylines were sufficiently closed out for it to be a standalone. But there was also more than enough setup to easily make a second season. As is Netflix's M.O., the streaming platform will likely give it at least a month from The Chair's release before making any decisions regarding a second season, but if they like the numbers they see, there's no reason The Chair season 2 couldn't happen. The Chair Season 2 Release Date Even if Netflix announces a second season for The Chair in a month's time, there's no telling when it will be released. Lead Sandra Oh is likely to be the biggest question mark in regard to when a second season of The Chair might begin production. Currently, she still has to shoot Killing Eve season 4 and she has two movies coming out next year that may take up her time with press tours. But it's entirely possible that, assuming Peet and Wyman have a story for a second season, The Chair season 2 could be filmed in the first half of next year, meaning a release of a second season a year from now, in August 2o22, wouldn't be out of the question. The Chair Season 2 Cast Almost all of the main and supporting cast would be likely to return for The Chair season 2. Since the show hinges upon the blossoming romance between Sandra Oh's Ji-Yoon and Jay Duplass' Bill, they'd certainly remain the focal point of a second season. Likewise, Everly Carganilla and Ji-yong Lee are sure to return as Ji-Yoon's daughter and father. Of the cast who play faculty members at Pembroke, it's likely that most of them also return, including David Morse, Nana Mensah, and Bob Balaban. Holland Taylor most certainly will, as Joan was arguably the tritagonist of the first season and ended it as the new department chair. That said, The Chair season 1 involved older faculty members being urged to retire, so it's possible some of them might depart the series either before or during season 2. The Chair Season 2 Story Even though The Chair season 1 was satisfying, there are some criticisms that it set up a lot of story that went largely unexplored. The Chair season 2 can continue these stories, the most central being, of course, the developing romance between Ji-Yoon and Bill. As he slowly started overcoming his grief, he moved into a role of becoming a father figure to Ju-Hee and got Ji-Yoon's complex and prickly daughter to warm up to her in the Netflix TV show. The constantly falling apart ship that is the Pembroke English department will also be a big focus. Ji-Yoon, Yaz and Bill have big plans to change the department and bring it into the 21st century, but it's left ambiguous at the end of season 1 if there's a chance of accomplishing that. Likewise, Joan's time as the new chair will be addressed as she learns to balance old with new. The question of whether Yaz will get tenure or leave for a better offer at another Ivy League is also up in the air. In all, there's still a lot more story to tell, so if The Chair season 2 gets the green light, audiences will surely tune in.
  18. New images from the upcoming Disney+ adaptation of R.L. Stine’s horror anthology Just Beyond have been released, revealing a first look at the series. Famed children’s horror author Stine, whose Fear Street books inspired the Netflix trilogy, wrote the middle-grade graphic novel Just Beyond for BOOM! Studios. Disney+ then greenlit a comedy-horror series based on the 4-volume anthology, with Seth Grahame-Smith (The LEGO Batman Movie) writing all 8 episodes and Marc Webb (The Amazing Spider-Man) stepping in to direct the first two installments. Now, Bloody Disgusting has revealed several first look images from the upcoming series. The images, which are from different stories within the anthology, feature members of the impressive cast, such as Mckenna Grace (The Handmaid’s Tale), Nasim Pedrad (Aladdin), Lexi Underwood (Little Fires Everywhere), and Megan Stott (Yes Day) in what seem to be some tense and scary situations. A close look at the images also reveals that one of the characters is wearing a t-shirt that references Goosebumps, Stine’s other beloved horror series for young readers. Goosebumps was adapted into a fan-favorite TV series in the 1990s and is currently in development for a reboot, though details about the project have been few and far between. Between the popularity of Netflix’s Fear Street trilogy, the possibility of another Goosebumps show, and the upcoming Just Beyond, it’s clear that Stine’s books are hot properties right now. Speaking about Just Beyond, Grahame-Smith has described his desire to create a series that the whole family can enjoy together. Considering that R.L. Stine has been appealing to audiences for generations, Stine and Grahame-Smith are a good match and one that could be another winner for Disney+ in an already impressive year. No official announcement has yet been made regarding a premiere date for Just Beyond, but with the Halloween season fast approaching, the fun and creepy new series will likely be released in the next few months.
  19. Bo Burnham has left the role of basketball player Larry Bird on HBO Max's upcoming untitled TV series about the Los Angeles Lakers. The much-hyped project created by Adam McKay, Max Borenstein, and Jim Hecht was announced in 2019 and is based on the book Showtime: Magic, Kareem, Riley, and the Los Angeles Lakers Dynasty of the 1980s, by Jeff Pearlman. Burnham was set to play the Celtics forward during the height of his career, a casting that had basketball and comedy fans alike excited by the crossover. Many had noted the comedian's resemblance to the player and looked forward to seeing HBO take advantage of the opportunity. Variety now reports that Burnham will not portray Bird in the series. An unnamed source says that the actor departed the project because of scheduling issues. The role has already been recast with up-and-comer Sean Patrick Small. Small announced the news to his followers on Instagram in a post that suggests his casting has been in the works for some time: Burnham has yet to comment on his departure, but it's no surprise that the director, producer, actor, and comedian is overbooked. Burnham released his latest musical comedy/standup special Inside on Netflix in May to widespread acclaim from critics and fans. Burnham wrote and filmed Inside over a year of lockdown-induced isolation, an all-consuming creative process he addresses in a meta-commentary throughout the special. Burnham implies that he'll have more free time on his hands upon finishing the project, but it's been reported that he's currently working on a screenplay and involved in Warner Bros.' Sesame Street movie alongside Chance the Rapper and Anne Hathaway. Larry Bird's arc in the Los Angeles Lakers HBO Max series will focus on his ongoing public rivalry with Magic Johnson that began during their NCAA championship faceoff. He will be depicted as a laser-focused player who abhors the fame that comes along with it. Along with Small, the Lakers drama will star John C. Reilly as Jerry Buss, Quincy Isaiah as Magic Johnson, Solomon Hughes as Kareem Abdul Jabbar, and Jason Clarke as Jerry West. The ensemble cast also features Gabby Hoffman, Sally Field, Jason Segel, Adrien Brody, Lola Kirke, Gillian Jacobs, Hadley Robinson, Molly Gordon, DeVaughn Nixon, Rob Morgan, Spencer Garrett, Kirk Bovill, Delante Desouza, Michael Chiklis, Sarah Ramos, and Wood Harris, among others.
  20. Rafe Judkins, showrunner for Amazon’s upcoming The Wheel of Time series has revealed why the show’s main characters are older than their book counterparts. Based on the epic fantasy series penned by Robert Jordan, The Wheel of Time is a mammoth tale that spans thirteen enormous tomes and is one of the bestselling fantasy series since J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings. While Jordan himself passed away before being able to complete his series, thanks to the copious notes he had prepared prior to his death, fellow author and fan of the series Brandon Sanderson was able to come in and finish the final two books. Over the years multiple attempts at bringing Jordan’s work to the screen, either as a television series or as a feature-length film, have emerged. Back in 2000, Jordan himself revealed that NBC had approached him for a potential mini-series, and in 2008 Universal Studios had optioned the first book The Eye of the World for a film adaptation. Neither project would eventuate, and again in 2015 Red Eagle Entertainment paid to air a low-budget Wheel of Time pilot, made with the sole intent of holding onto the television rights. Nonetheless, a year later the film rights reverted back to Jordan’s wife and editor Harriet McDougal, and a deal was struck with Sony to begin work on a proper Wheel of Time adaption with Judkins at the helm. After striking a deal with Amazon to distribute the series exclusively via their Prime Video streaming service, filming officially commenced in 2019. With the first season now set to premiere in November, Amazon has revealed their first look images showing a slightly older quintet of lead characters than fans may have expected. When a keen-eyed fan took to Twitter to ask Judkins why Barney Harris’s Matrim “Mat” Cauthon was sporting a beard in the new pics, the showrunner replied: “We aged up the Emond’s Field Five from the books because sometimes TV shows with a bunch of 17 year olds as leads feel more like YA and Wheel of Time isn’t YA”. Check out the original Tweets below: While Jordan’s fans may be somewhat perplexed by the decision to age up the show’s leads from their appearances in the original The Eye of the World book, this certainly isn’t the first time a TV adaptation has made changes to the source material suit the needs of the medium. In 2015 the Syfy channel similarly aged Quentin Coldwater and the leading characters of The Magicians based on the fantasy novels by Lev Grossman, and one only needs to talk to fans of George R.R. Martin to learn about the myriad of differences Game of Thrones made to his Song of Ice and Fire books. While it is nearly impossible for any adaptation to remain 100% faithful to the books, the question is whether those changes serve to help or hinder the final product. With HBO currently hip-deep in preparing their own Game of Thrones prequel series, and Netflix enjoying the enormous success of both The Witcher and Shadow and Bones adaptations, fantasy fans will be keen to see how well Amazon delivers on the enormous potential of The Wheel of Time. With the streamer already greenlighting a second season even before the show has premiered indicates that they are confident the new show will deliver the goods. Amazon’s The Wheel of Time is set to debut on Prime Video in November this year.
  21. Actor Brett Goldstein, who plays the gruff and foul-mouthed Roy Kent on Ted Lasso and also writes for the show, hints at upcoming season 2 storylines for Roy, Keeley, and Nate. Ted Lasso premiered on Apple TV+ in August 2020 and quickly became a TV sensation. The series, which stars Jason Sudeikis as the titular Ted, bagged an impressive 20 Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for Goldstein. Season 1 of Ted Lasso followed optimistic American college football coach Ted as he moved to the U.K. to manage AFC Richmond, an English Premier League team. Viewers were immediately won over by the varied and often hilarious cast of characters that made up the English football team and its management. Among those fan-favorites were Goldstein’s Roy, the angry team captain who eventually starts to soften up, Juno Temple’s Keeley, the model turned marketing maven who learns to step into her own power, and Nick Mohammed’s Nate, the shy kit man who begins to believe in himself. At the end of Ted Lasso season 1, Roy and Keeley had found love with each other and Nate had achieved his dream of joining the AFC Richmond coaching staff. All seemed well. But in Ted Lasso, as in real life, progress is not always linear, and when Ted Lasso season 2 premiered in late July 2021, some cracks in the characters’ happily-ever-afters were already beginning to show. In an in-depth interview with VF, Goldstein shared some insight into what season 2 and beyond may have in store for Roy, Keeley, and Nate. Though he was understandably careful not to give anything away, his comments seemed to hint at difficult times ahead for the beloved characters. Read what he had to say below: “That’s the thing about Roy Kent. I think he completely meant that. He’d play football until he died. The thing that he hadn't planned on was Keeley. Firstly, Ted gets Roy to open his heart a bit. But then the arrival of Keeley into his life is what has kept him on. He's not going to kill himself [now that he’s retired from football], it's not the end of the world. But I think we can already see there's a danger in how much he's investing in his relationship with Keeley versus the rest of his life." "[Regarding Nate] I can't say much because I don't want to spoil anything. I think it's a really interesting storyline. I think there are elements of it that when I saw it all come together in the edit, I felt really proud to be part of this. This is really complicated adult stuff with all the ugliness. I also think that Nick Mohammed is brilliant.” Viewers may not be surprised to hear that Nate will be going through some “complicated adult stuff,” as the first few episodes of Ted Lasso season 2 have already shown a departure from his gentle character in the first season. Nate has been struggling to find his footing in both his personal and professional lives and Roy’s recent decision to join the AFC Richmond coaching staff will no doubt upend his sense of self even more. As for Roy and Keeley, they seem happy and loving for now, though they have had some trouble finding time for one another. Exactly how, when, and if their relationship will hit a rough patch remains to be seen, but with Goldstein pointing out the “danger” of Roy investing too much into Keeley and too little elsewhere, it seems likely. One of the complaints about Ted Lasso has been that it’s too saccharine and fluffy, but as Goldstein himself is quick to point out, Ted Lasso is actually a show with some very dark elements. All of the characters, including Ted, are working through huge challenges, including divorce, toxic and abusive relationships, and complicated family dynamics. Though viewers may not want to see their beloved characters go through any more pain, the creative team behind the show clearly has a strong vision for the series and is telling a very specific story. Considering that Ted Lasso has already been renewed for season 3, which will reportedly end the show, it’s safe to say that Roy, Keeley, and Nate - and the rest of the AFC Richmond family - are still heading into the complicated middle part of their journeys and will continue to face challenges in the episodes ahead.
