  11. Squid Game's finale shows the recruiter smile when he sees Seong Gi-hun again, and here's why he was happy to see Gi-hun again after the games. Squid Game's ending includes the recruiter and Seong Gi-hun having a brief reunion, and here's why the recruiter smiles when he sees Gi-hun again. The setup for Netflix's new hit show has people in great debt recruited to take part in a series of children's games with deadly twists for a chance to win 45.6 Billion won. Squid Game tells this story with Seong Gi-hun as the main character and shows him go from a broke gambler, lazy son, and absent-minded father to the winner of the whole competition. Once Gi-hun won Squid Game, his life doesn't prove to be as wonderful as someone with billions of won would expect. This eventually leads him to give all his money away and plan a trip to see his daughter. However, the events of Squid Game unexpectedly interfere with these plans. When Gi-hun is on his way to the airport to leave South Korea, he sees the recruiter who originally brought him to the games in the train station. The recruiter is in the process of getting another victim, which upsets Gi-hun. However, the recruiter has a very different reaction to seeing Gi-hun and his red hair and cracks a smile at the sight of him through the passing train. The recruiter smiling at Gi-hun at the end of Squid Game is curious but something that makes plenty of sense after thinking through his situation. This recruiter is presumably one of hundreds stationed throughout Korea and could've been involved with the competition for years. The train station is clearly his usual recruiting spot, but this is likely the first time he's ever seen one of his recruits again. As a recruiter, he knows that the person he convinces to join Squid Game has low odds of winning the games and returning to the real world at all. There is an even smaller chance that the recruiter would see any former winner again, so Gi-hun could be the first one he's ever seen after the games. On top of the low odds that a recruiter has of seeing a Squid Game recruit again in the real world, this recruiter's smile at Gi-hun's presence is an obvious sign that he's happy to see Gi-hun survived the deadly competition. There was a chance that Gi-hun could've decided to not return to the Squid Game after the original competition was canceled due to the player-wide vote too. This decision might have led the recruiter and Gi-hun to cross paths again in the future. However, this is a rarer encounter as it comes a year after Gi-hun returned and won the games. The recruiter might not know that Gi-hun won before, so this sighting could be the first confirmation he had of Gi-hun's survival. Although the recruiter seems happy to see Gi-hun again, Squid Game doesn't give them a chance to properly reunite. The recruiter runs away from the scene to avoid Gi-hun and likely plenty of questions about the games. There's a chance Squid Game season 2 could bring them back together again. If Gi-hun happens to see the recruiter for a third time, it'll be fascinating to see how that reunion plays out.
  12. Squid Game creator and director Hwang Dong-hyuk has revealed which storylines he would like to explore in a hypothetical season 2 on Netflix. Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has revealed which plotlines he’d like to explore in a hypothetical season 2 at Netflix. After taking the world by storm and becoming Netflix’s biggest original series ever, Squid Game season 2 seems like an inevitability. Season 1 leaves plenty of story threads hanging for further exploration, creating many different possibilities for where Squid Game season 2 could go. Neither Hwang nor Netflix could have possibly anticipated Squid Game becoming so popular globally, and the idea of a Squid Game season 2 seems to have only come up in the wake of the show’s success. Hwang has said that he intended for the end of Squid Game season 1 to be fully functional as the end of the story, with some storylines intentionally left unresolved. But now that the show has smashed records around the world, Netflix will surely want to keep the Squid Game story going. In a recent interview with THR, Hwang discussed the success of Squid Game and what he’d like to explore in season 2. He said that one of the main plotlines he’d like to return to is the relationship between detective Hwang Jun-ho and his brother Hwang In-ho, who is revealed at the end of season 1 to be the Squid Game Front Man. He also said he’d be interested in exploring more about the recruiter who finds Gi-hun, and in returning to Gi-hun’s own story as he contends with the organization behind the games. Read Hwang’s full quote below. “So I thought that might be a good simple, but ambiguous, way to end the story for Gi-hun. But there are some other stories in the series that have not been addressed. For example, the story of the police officer and the story of his brother, The Front Man. So if I end up creating season two, I’d like to explore that storyline — what is going on between those two brothers? And then I could also go into the story of that recruiter in the suit who plays the game of ddakji with Gi-hun and gives him the card in the first episode. And, of course, we could go with Gi-hun’s story as he turns back, and explore more about how he’s going to navigate through his reckoning with the people who are designing the games. So, I don’t know yet, but I’ll just say there are a lot of possibilities out there for season two storylines.” Any or all of the three plotlines mentioned by Hwang would be great to see explored in Squid Game season 2. The obvious choice would be to continue following Gi-hun, as he has been the primary protagonist so far, but a heavier focus on the shadowy organization could be a fun change. Many viewers have theorized that Jun-ho is still alive, and with In-ho now likely running the games after the death of the founder, there relationship could get even more interesting. Following the Squid Game recruiter would perhaps be the least obvious direction for Squid Game season 2 to take, but that doesn’t mean the idea doesn’t have promise. Following the recruiter could be the perfect way to reveal new things about the nature of the games and the people behind them. Building out the biggest parts of the Squid Game story that have yet to be revealed. It may be some time before Squid Game season 2 actually hits Netflix, but it sounds like Hwang has plenty of great ideas for when it does.
  13. Batwoman season 3 will feature many classic Batman villains terrorizing Gotham city, including Killer Croc, Professor Pyg, and Poison Ivy! Several classic Batman villains will be making their Arrowverse premieres in Batwomanseason 3. This is surprising yet welcome news, given that Warner Bros. has been seemingly reluctant to allow the CW series to utilize many of the more infamous villains who menace Gotham City on a regular basis. Presumably, this was due to the character rights being tied up in the upcoming movie The Batman, but with production on the film having come to a close, Batman's rogues gallery may once again be free for adaptation elsewhere. Batwoman season 2 ended in triumph for the new Batwoman, Ryan Wilder (Javicia Leslie), who succeeded in her quest to bring her adoptive mother's murderer to justice and rescued a brainwashed Kate Kane from captivity. Kate officially passed the Batwoman mantle to Ryan, as Luke Fox (Camrus Johnson) took up a heroic identity of his own, Batwing. Despite this, Batwoman season 2 also ended on a foreboding note, with the weapons of many of Batman's greatest enemies having been stolen by Black Mask and finding their way into the Gotham City underground. The plot of Batwoman season 3 will center around the recovery of these villainous artifacts, while Batwoman, Batwing, and their allies contend with a cornucopia of classic Bat-foes. While some of the weapons in question will find their way into the hands of new wielders, many of the original rogues have been confirmed as still being active and will be making their first appearances in the Arrowverse. Here is a rundown of every Batman villain confirmed to be a part of Batwoman season 3. Mad Hatter Several criminals have used the Mad Hatter name over the years, but the most infamous is Jervis Tetch. A scientist who was obsessed with the writings of Lewis Carroll (particularly Alice in Wonderland and Alice Through The Looking Glass), Tetch developed advanced mind control technology that allowed him to enthrall others into obeying his commands or trap them in their own personal Wonderlands. Tetch's trademark top hat, which was the source of his powers, was briefly seen in the final episode of Batwoman season 2, floating downstream to parts unknown. The title of Batwoman's season 3 premiere, "Mad As a Hatter," makes it plainly clear that the Mad Hatter's hat will be the first of the Bat Trophies to emerge. However, the Mad Hatter that tests Batwoman and her allies appears to be a new villain; he is identified in the episode credits as Liam Crandle, which is not the name of any previous incarnation of the Mad Hatter in the comics. Played by Amitai Marmorstein, it seems likely that Crandle is the "Alice admirer (who) stumbles upon one of the missing Bat Trophies" described in the story summary of "Mad As a Hatter." Killer Croc The victim of a congenital medical condition that gave him scaly skin, Waylon Jones had a rough childhood, which culminated in his wrestling alligators in a Florida sideshow under the name Killer Croc and eventually turning to crime. Originally a brilliant but fearsome-looking crime boss, Croc was later infected with a virus that transformed him into a truly reptilian monster with regenerative abilities and enhanced strength. The Arrowverse Killer Croc was established as existing in an earlier episode of Batwoman; however, based on the episode synopsis of Batwoman season 3, episode 2, "Loose Tooth," which mentions "a new incarnation of Gotham's swamp slumming Killer Croc," it seems likely that the virus that transformed Waylon Jones has infected another unfortunate soul. Mr. Freeze While many Batman villains were born of tragedy, Dr. Victor Fries may be the most sympathetic. A cryogenics expert, Fries found his life's work put to the test after his wife was diagnosed with a terminal illness and he was forced to put her in cryogenic suspension. Unfortunately, Victor's employer was more concerned with profits than saving lives and tried to shut down Victor's lab. The violent altercation that followed left Fries unable to survive outside a sub-zero environment. Arming himself with a freeze ray, Victor turned to crime to finance his research and save his beloved Nora. Mr. Freeze's existence in the Arrowverse was confirmed both before and after the Crisis on Infinite Earths event. Nothing has been said about his current whereabouts, but Batwomanseason 3, episode 3 is telling titled "Freeze." The episode synopsis also says that "cryogenics is the name of the game" and makes mention of an unfortunate incident in downtown Gotham, suggesting that Mr. Freeze's (or someone using his technology) will be on the loose. Nora Fries While normally a passive figure, Nora Fries has taken an active role in some comic storylines. Prior to the New 52 reboot, Mr. Freeze bargained with Nyssa Al Ghul and was allowed access to a Lazarus Pit that might restore his wife's health. Unfortunately, the chemicals that preserved her had an unexpected effect on the Lazarus Pit, transforming Nora Fries into a deranged, heat-radiating being who called herself Lazara. In the DC Rebirth reality, Mr. Freeze made a similar bargain with criminal mastermind Lex Luthor, who was able to cure Nora's illness while leaving her with the same condition as her husband. Nora took up the name Mrs. Freeze, and briefly joined her husband's criminal enterprises as he searched for a way to make them both normal again. Sadly, Nora decided to leave Victor and strike out on her own, having grown to love the power granted by her new life after years of feeling weak. Nora Fries was confirmed to have been frozen by her husband on Earth-Prime in the Arowverse, thanks to one of the trivia questions asked by the Cluemaster in the Batwomanseason 2 episode "I'll Give You A Clue." Before Crisis on Infinite Earths, she briefly appeared during the Elseworlds crossover event, played by Cassandra Jean Amell, the wife of Arrowstar Stephen Amell, and was depicted as an inmate at Arkham Asylum who was desperate to keep cool for some unexplained reason. While nothing has been said about Nora's fate or state of mind in the Arrowverse, there is a chance that a villainous version of her could show up in Batwoman season 3, episode 3, "Freeze" or Batwoman season 3, episode 4, "Antifreeze." Professor Pyg A sinister surgeon who became obsessed with his own twisted ideas of physical perfection, Professor Pyg is one of the most frightening villains to terrorize Gotham City. Performing surgery without anesthetic or permission, Pyg lobotomizes his patients at the same time he permanently attaches new faces to their flesh. The professor made his live-action debut in a horrifying episode of Gotham. Professor Pyg's Arrowverse premiere was confirmed by the title of Batwoman season 3, episode 5, "A Lesson From Professor Pyg." Poison Ivy Possibly the single most powerful of the many supervillains Batman has battled over the years, Dr. Pamela Isley is notable for having worked with the Dark Knight almost as much as she's fought against him. Connected to the Green, the force which connects all plant life in the universe, Dr. Isley has devoted her life to protecting the Earth from humanity under the title Poison Ivy. It has been confirmed that actress Bridget Regan (Dottie Underwood in Agent Carter) will be playing Poison Ivy in Batwoman season 3 and it is suspected that she will be the primary villain of the season's chief storyline.
  14. No Time To Die had a chance to undo the revelation that Blofeld is actually 007's adopted brother, making the character scarier in the process. No Time To Die spells an end to Daniel Craig’s time as 007, but the upcoming blockbuster should undo the worst twist of its predecessor Spectre. Repeatedly delayed due to the ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic, No Time to Die is Craig’s fifth and final movie playing suave super-spy James Bond, and the much-anticipated Cary Joji Fukunaga film could also spell an end to the tonal reinvention the franchise underwent during Craig's era. Critics have been largely wowed by his Bond tenure, despite the imperfections of his second outing in the role, 2008’s Quantum of Solace. Craig’s debut with 2006’s Casino Royale offered a dark and grounded backstory for his version of Bond, while his third outing Skyfall saw Craig’s 007 movies increase their focus on backstory and franchise lore. During Craig’s era, viewers have learned the backstory of Moneypenny, seen Bond’s ancestral home, and even witnessed one M actor killed in action and replaced by another, all of which were firsts for the long-running franchise. However, 007’s long-time nemesis Blofeld revealing he was in fact Bond’s secret adopted brother was a reveal that went too far for most viewers. However, No Time To Die should have undone this unintentionally goofy twist by revealing Blofeld was just making up their shared history to psychologically torture Bond (while also literally physically torturing him). This reversal would have been a far better twist, giving Blofeld back his shadowy unknowable villain status and making the character’s origins a mystery once more. The revelation that Blofeld would appear in No Time To Die, alongside the movie’s new villain, Rami Malek’s Safin, came as a surprise to few fans of the franchise. But No Time to Die didn't undo the reveal of Blofeld being Bond's adopted brother, with M telling the spy that it's "lucky he's not really your brother," keeping that little fact a part of the narrative. It's a reveal that also played a role in Bond's confrontation with Blofeld in No Time to Die. And while the film could have changed it so that Blofeld was messing with Bond, the film doubled down on the reveal instead of offering another twist. Christoph Waltz’s version of the character is an important figure in the Craig Bond movies with Spectre revealing he had a hand in empowering every villain this 007 faced in earlier films. It’s an effective reveal, but the added twist that Blofeld was actually Bond’s secret (and jealous) adopted brother was a moment that fell flat, and not only because the revelation was borrowed from the third Austin Powers movie, Goldmember, which saw Austin and his longtime nemesis, Dr. Evil, revealed as brothers who were separated as children. The reveal that Bond didn’t discover Blofeld’s identity earlier served less to make the criminal seem ingenious and more to make Craig’s 007 seem incompetent, especially since he had been hunting this Blofeld for years without recognizing him. Granted, the villain faked his death and changed his identity, but Bond was meant to be one of the best spies in the business, so the fact that he missed this information completely made it all the more underwhelming. Moreover, the atmosphere of Craig’s Bond movies has owed more to the edgy, relatively realistic Bourne franchise than the over-the-top antics of Roger Moore’s comical 007, so the campiness of the twist didn’t fit with the franchise’s more serious tone. For Waltz’s Blofeld to be scary once more, and for him to be able to face off against another Bond after Craig's departure, his personal connection to the character should have been revealed to be a cruel mind game all along, with similar psychologically devastating results had Blofeld actually been Bond's brother. Doing that within the story of No Time to Die would have undone the silly Spectre twist altogether. At the very least, Blofeld and Bond's final confrontation was intense, even though Craig's final film as 007 opted to maintain Blofeld's identity.
  15. A missing character from the first trailer for Marvel Studios' Hawkeye, lead some viewers to speculate what happened, until Marvel cleared things up. The first trailer for Marvel Studios’ Hawkeye raised a big question for viewers that the second trailer promptly answers. The upcoming Disney+ series Hawkeye will follow Clint Barton and his new partner and protégé Kate Bishop as they deal with violent criminals striking back at Hawkeye for his brutal bygone days as Ronan. Clint Barton’s wife, Laura, a key character is missing from the first trailer, leading some viewers to speculate the reason behind her absence, but the next promotional video explains it and quells the rumors. The first trailer for Hawkeye shows Clint enjoying Christmas vacation in New York City with his three children, taking them to see Rogers: The Musical. When gang violence forces Clint back into his superhero role as Hawkeye, he sends his kids back home to safety, but Laura is notably missing from the trailer. Some fans speculated that she and Clint were divorced or otherwise separated, and others even suspected she’d died yet again. The second Hawkeye trailer shows Clint on the phone with Laura roughly halfway through its runtime, putting an end to any rumors of the two being separated or Clint being widowed once more. Given the intricacies of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the franchise’s fans’ notorious attention to detail in all promotional materials, it’s unsurprising that wild rumors about Laura’s whereabouts began due to her absence. By now, Marvel Studious is used to this and made the wise move of showing Laura in the next trailer, assuring fans that she’s still alive and married to Clint. Before criminals force Clint to become Hawkeye again, his trip to New York and relationship with his family are back to normal. Thanks to The Hulk’s use of the Infinity Stones, Clint’s whole family was resurrected and Clint was celebrating his first Christmas with them in five years by taking his kids to New York for the holiday weekend. The criminals interrupt what would have been an ordinary, albeit fun, vacation for Clint, and having Laura be dead or divorced would ruin this intended premise. This isn’t the first time that Marvel Studios took note of the internet’s reaction to a trailer and adjusted it accordingly. An early trailer for Captain Marvel had Carol Danvers punch a Skrull who was disguised as an elderly woman. The trailer accidentally made Carol appear to be assaulting an innocent senior citizen, something that the internet used for comedic effect, so the following trailer made sure to add context to the scene, showing that the old woman was, in fact, a Skrull impostor. One of the many reasons why the MCU succeeds is that Marvel Studios pays close attention to its fans and appeals to them without sacrificing its integrity in the process. When plot elements or films themselves aren’t generating enthusiastic interest among viewers, Marvel tends to adjust their strategy. When a trailer accidentally creates a misconception, Marvel clears up the confusion. Hawkeye’s first trailer accidentally sets off a series of rumors by omitting Laura, but Marvel answered this by including her in the next one.
