Leicestershire's white-ball captain Colin Ackermann has penned a new three-year deal with the county, one that'll keep him at the club until the end of the 2023 season. The 28-year-old Dutch cricketer was rewarded with a new contract after a productive white-ball season that included his world-record seven-fer in a T20 game against Birmingham Bears.

"I am very pleased to have extended my contract by another three years," Ackermann said. "I have really enjoyed my time here at the Fischer County Ground over the last three years so long may that continue."

Ackermann has been a constant performer for the side this season, despite the team itself finishing at the bottom of the standings in each of the three formats. Ackermann made 675 runs at 35.52, and took 12 wickets in the County Championship. His ODI returns were even better as he aggregated 428 runs at 61.14. In the T20 Blast he added a further 342 runs at 28.50 and took 12 wickets at 6.04, which included the historic 7 for 18 Fischer County Ground.

Ackermann remains confident that Leicestershire can turn around their fortunes in 2020, with as many as five other players - Dieter Klein, Harry Swindells, Sam Evans and Harry Dearden - of the team's core extending their deals. "We are a young squad and it is fantastic to see the local and younger guys to have that opportunity to make a name for themselves," he said.

"It is obviously not all going to come together right now but, in a year, or two's time with the likes of Harry Dearden and Sam Evans having another year under their belt - it bodes well for the future."
