Australia and Melbourne Renegades all-rounder Sophie Molineux has decided to step away from the game to focus on her mental health and wellbeing. The 21-year-old will not travel to Ballarat for the Women's Big Bash League fixture against the Melbourne Stars on Saturday.

Molineux is the latest Australian cricketer to take time off cricket for mental health reasons. Before her, Glenn Maxwell, Will Pucovski and Nic Maddinson have done the same in recent weeks. Cricket Australia has said that they will work closely with Molineux to ensure her support and help her transition back when she's ready.

"Sophie has made the decision to take a break from cricket and we are providing her with the support she needs," Australia Women's Team Doctor Pip Inge said. "The welfare of our players is a priority and we are proud of the brave decision by Sophie to step away from the game."

Makinley Blows has been named as Molineux's replacement in the Renegades squad for this weekend's match.

"Sophie knows her teammates and the Renegades coaches and support staff are always there for her," Renegades coach Tim Coyle said. "We'll give Sophie the time, space and any support she needs."
