Maybe your child loves to watch YouTube videos on your iPhone, but you'd rather they not touch the Phone app or swipe through your emails.

If you're all thumbs with your fingers when using your iPhone, or you want a quick and easy parental control app for iPhone, there is a solution on iOS called Guided Access.

What Is Guided Access on iPhone?

Available through your phone's Accessibility settings, Guided Access disables all taps, gestures, button presses, and other activity on your iPhone outside of those needed for your current app. So you can swipe, gesture, and tap icons within whatever app is on the screen, but any accidental taps, gestures, or button presses won't affect or interfere with the app.

After you enable Guided Access, just triple-press the side button to turn it on and triple-press to turn it off. Guided Access is a handy way to keep you, your kids, and your iPhone focused on a single app. Let's go through the steps needed to enable this valuable feature.

Locating Guided Access

To reach the Guided Access feature on your iPhone, tap Settings > General > Accessibility. Swipe down to the bottom to the Learning section and tap on the setting for Guided Access.

Turn On Guided Access

Turn on the setting for Guided Access. Next, return to your Home screen and open the app on which you want to focus. Press the side button three times. The Guided Access screen appears.

Enter a Passcode

To use Guided Access with the default options, tap on Start. Your iPhone asks you to create a passcode for enabling and disabling Guided Access. Enter a passcode and verify it.

Using Guided Access

Now try using an app. You'll find that the app itself is fully functional. You can tap, swipe, and perform other gestures to navigate and use your current app. However, your Home button and the physical buttons are disabled, which means you can't accidentally cause your app to vanish. No matter what you do, your current app remains on the screen—particularly helpful if you want your kid to remain inside one particular app or game, and not poke around your email and text messages.

To get out of Guided Access mode, press the side button three times. You're asked to enter the passcode you created. The Guided Access screen pops up. You can now tap on End to disable Guided Access.
