After years of teasing us with screenshots, gameplay videos and developer interviews, the team at Insomniac Games has finally revealed the release date and purchase options for their upcoming game, Marvel's Spider-Man. Get ready to swing into action on Sept. 7.

An official listing for Spider-Man finally went live on the PlayStation Store yesterday afternoon, slating the game for a Sept. 7 release date. The big takeaway here is that Spider-Man will be ready to roll early this fall, launching exclusively on the PlayStation 4 in just five months.

The image at the top of this story is actually pulled directly from the game's official box art, featuring a rather straightforward look at the iconic Marvel superhero. There are no crazy explosions happening in the background or extra characters, scenery cluttering up the background; just Spidey swinging into the foreground against a field of red.

Given the timing of this reveal, we're feeling more confident than normal that Spider-Man will actually hit its launch date. It's not uncommon for big games to get pushed back these days, but that typically happens when said game was given a launch date a year or more out from the big day. If Insomniac thinks the game will be ready in September, it'll probably be ready in September.

As for your purchasing options, this is a modern game, so of course you have a few. The standard edition will set you back the usual $59.99 and just includes the game. There's also a Digital Deluxe Edition for $79.99, which includes the full game, additional story chapters that will be released as DLC, a collection of new suits, a Spider Drone Gadget to use in the game and, if you pre-order this version, a limited edition collectible pin that will be mailed to you directly. As for that DLC, the whole package is being called "The City That Never Sleeps." It boasts three new chapters, each with its own new missions, villains, characters and Spider-Man suits. So it doesn't sound like it will be story-driven DLC that completes the story so much as "more adventures starring Spider-Man." That's a good thing. Oh, this version of the game will also net you a Spidey PS4 avatar and theme.

On the physical front, there's also a Collector's edition available for $149.99. This set includes everything from the digital set, as well as a Steelbook case, a mini art book, some stickers and a Spider-Man figurine.

To be clear, even if you only pre-order the standard edition, you'll still get the game's digital goodies, including the suit pack, gadget, avatar and theme.

Insomniac is promising more details will roll out as we get closer to launch and, call it a hunch, but we wouldn't be surprised if Spider-Man was playable at this year's E3 showcase.
