RAA email account hacked, affecting data of 600 customers

AN email account at the RAA has been hacked, giving hackers access to information belonging to 600 customers, including “sensitive” data.

RAA senior membership manager Catherine Humphreys-Scott said an unauthorised third party accessed a staff email account at the association’s Marion shop.

“On Friday we informed the Australian Information Commissioner that a staff email account at our Marion shop had been accessed by an unauthorised third party,’’ she said.

“Our initial investigation has indicated that the unauthorised access is contained to this single email account.

“We have reviewed the content of that email account. Approximately 600 customers were affected, and a small number of these had provided sensitive information.”

She said the RAA had attempted to make contact with all of these individuals affected “so that they can take action”.

“We are in the process of notifying all remaining individuals who had information in that account via email or mail,” she said.

“We are continuing our investigation, and will continue to keep those individuals and the relevant regulators informed.”
