LG V40 ThinQ receives camera-focused software update before it's even released

The LG V40 ThinQ is a pretty impressive high-end cameraphone... on paper, offering “more ways to capture every story” with a grand total of five shooters. Unfortunately, our in-depth review of LG’s latest Android powerhouse found the triple lens system at the back lacking in a number of key areas compared to a few top-tier rivals.

Because the hardware is certainly state-of-the-art, combining a “standard” 12MP f/1.5 snapper with a 12MP OIS telephoto lens and a 16MP super wide-angle sensor, you have to figure the imaging software is a big part of the problem.

Don’t get us wrong, this is not a bad device by any stretch of the imagination, but at over $900, it needs to be better to take on the likes of Samsung’s Galaxy Note 9 and Apple’s iPhone XSpeeds.eu">XS.

Fortunately, it seems even the earliest LG V40 ThinQ adopters will be getting a substantially improved camera experience than the one provided on pre-launch review units. A software update is currently rolling out for at least one device already in circulation, with actual pre-orders yet to open.

Thus, odds are the enhancements included in this over-the-air goodie pack will come to V40 buyers right out the box, which means low light image quality, low light HDR, AI Camera image quality, white balance and brightness in outdoor conditions, and general Auto Focus performance are all due for a Day 1 upgrade. It remains to be seen just how much of a difference these improvements will make.
