Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross’ ‘Halloween’ theme set for vinyl release

The pair's reimagining of John Carpenter's music from the original horror movie is set for a physical release next week

Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross’ 2017 take on the Halloween theme is set for a special vinyl release next week.

The news arrives ahead of the imminent release of David Gordon Green’s new remake of the original Halloween movie, which John Carpenter both directed and scored back in 1978. The new film and Carpenter’s accompanying score, which has been freshly updated by the musician and filmmaker for the remake, are both out tomorrow (October 19).

Next week, the Halloween celebrations will continue with the physical release of Reznor and Ross’ version of Carpenter’s Halloween theme, which was first released digitally just over a year ago.

A 12-inch vinyl of the track will go on sale on October 26, via Sacred Bones. The label are also behind the release of Carpenter’s freshly-created score for the new Halloween movie, which he made with his regular collaborators Cody Carpenter and Daniel Davies.

Speaking last year about the lasting impact of the movie and Carpenter’s original theme, Reznor said: “I clearly remember my friends and I at 13 years old conning our parents into letting us see Halloween when it came out in 1978. We left the theatre forever changed.

“We were damaged and scarred, with the shit genuinely scared out of us and that theme stuck firmly in our heads. John Carpenter, it’s your fault that I turned out the way I did.”
