Netflix has renewed Castlevania for a third season, just a few days after season two dropped on the streaming service.

The animated series, based on the classic video game franchise, launched Oct. 26, marking a faster-than-usual pickup for a Netflix series. The company typically waits a few weeks before making a decision on a show.

Castlevania centers on Trevor Belmont (voiced by Richard Armitage), the last surviving member of a disgraced clan that is trying to save Eastern Europe from extinction at the hands of Dracula himself, Vlad Tepes (Graham McTavish). The cast also includes James Callis, Alejandra Reynoso, Emily Swallow, Theo James, Adetokumboh M'Cormack and Jaime Murray.

Season three will run for 10 episodes, with comics legend Warren Ellis writing and executive producing. Adi Shankar, Fred Seibert and Kevin Kolde are also executive producers; Sam Deats directs.

The renewal of Castlevania comes amid an animation boom among TV providers, with Netflix and CBS TV Studios both recently launching in-house animation arms and more than 10 new series orders for animated shows aimed at adults launched so far in 2018.

"You can do five animated shows for the price of one live-action drama," animation exec Katie Krentz, now at CBS Studios, told The Hollywood Reporter. "The hope is one of those animated shows pops and becomes a big success with not only viewers but also merchandising."
