  2. Free Leech and some Updates The 2x Upload for the past 2 weeks went quite well, and our Seeder numbers are better than ever. So now we're turning on Site-Wide Free Leech for at least a few days until 2012-02-24 as another thank you. That means every torrent is free, not just the ones with the normal red freebie tag. A big thank you to all the users who donated, and paid for at least the next 4 months! 2012-02-22: We're extending the Free Leech until noon GMT on 2012-03-01! Enjoy! looks like x264 is doing well after that down time during the new years.
  3. The group responsible for the standards that various TV Shows and other videos use have released new information on updates they have made to the old XviD standard for TV Shows. These changes went into effect as of 2012-02-22 16:00 UTC. The change is as follows: the older SD Xvid .avi standard has been replaced with a new SD x264 .mp4 standard. What this means is that as of the current writing of this news post our FAQ/rules are out of date. The .mp4 standard is going to be allowed in the normal category for the TV Show it belongs too and the FAQ/Rules will re-written/updated over the next few days. For Example: The old release group rules would have made the file name: TVSHOW.S01E01.HDTV.XviD-RLG.avi The new release group rules now make the file name: TVSHOW.S01E01.HDTV.x264-RLG.mp4 The codecs used are always evolving and in time changes like this are bound to happen. To see a full version of the new changes follow this Pastebin Link. ***Please DO NOT report the new format as against the rules for this issue. We will have the FAQ/rules updated soon and will remove this notice about out of date FAQ/Rules when we have completed the FAQ/Rules updates.

  8. As some of you know (if you've been paying any attention), we have been working to completely rewrite the site from scratch. we've made a lot of progress and have something that is usable. it supports all the basic features we wanted, and more will continue to be added. our goals with the updates include: *faster and more efficient *less buggy and easier to add and fix things *switch to a tag-based system instead of categories *vastly improved security *remove unnecessary bloat *improve functionality before we can upgrade, we need it to be thoroughly tested. if you're interested and want to help out, you will need to register a new, temporary account. don't worry, when we do the upgrade, your actual account will be copied over and you'll keep the stats you currently have. any user that already had an account on the test site will need to have their passwords reset in order to log in now. 9. A few days ago the SD x264 TV Releasing Standards 2012 were introduced, which means some TV groups will be releasing Standard Definition (SD) releases in x264 instead of XviD. Compared to XviD, x264 is able to provide higher quality and compression at greater SD resolutions. We have created a new category on SceneAccess, TV/SD-x264 which will contain these releases. The TV/x264 category which contained mainly 720p x264 releases, has been renamed to TV/HD-x264 to avoid confusion. You will notice that the TV/DVDR and TV/DVDRip sections have been removed. The regular TV/XviD category will still exist. Some auto-download scripts will have to be updated to work properly with these new changes.

  14. We have changed the way our Featured Torrents work. Before we gave the download bytes back as bonus and therefore upload, but now download bytes on these torrents are not added to your totals. Upload bytes are calculated normally. In other words, we have reverted Featured Torrents to normal freeleech torrents, or "golden torrents" as they're called on other trackers. By doing this we have decided to activate all previous Featured Torrents and keep them free-to-leech indefinitely. We will be adding new Featured Torrents case by case basis, but we won't be adding any news entries about them. To see which torrents are Featured, we have added a new option to the Browse page. They are also colour-coded with light yellow on normal searches. On the torrent page itself, the text "Featured Torrent! Freeleech" will tell you that the torrent is an active Featured Torrent and no download will be counted on it. The FAQ entry on Featured Torrents have been updated to reflect this change. TL;DR: Featured Torrents are now normal freeleech or "golden torrents" (only upload counts). Their mission stays the same.
  15. The censorship of The Pirate Bay, which is slowly spreading to ISPs all around Europe, is designed to reduce the availability of unauthorized media, but the site also allows artists without a corporation-backed delivery mechanism to self publish to the world. However, since blockades are a blunt instrument, their work is being wiped out too. On this basis, the legality of a recent Pirate Bay blockade is now being questioned. During May 2011, the Copyright Information and Anti-Piracy Centre (CIAPC) and the Finnish branch of the music industry group IFPI filed a lawsuit at the District Court of Helsinki. The groups demanded that local ISP Elisa should start blocking The Pirate Bay in order to protect the copyrights of their members. While Elisa initially refused, a subsequent court order in October 2011 forced them to comply and last month it was initiated. The matter is currently under appeal but in the meantime Elisa’s block must remain, which means that no content indexed by The Pirate Bay – illicit or fully authorized – is available to the ISP’s customers. For one Elisa customer, that situation is unacceptable. Antti Laine says that the enforcement order handed down to his ISP was unlawful so he has responded by filing a complaint with the authority that sanctioned the block. His complaint states that under Finnish copyright law, any injunction should avoid collateral damage. Such a wide block fails to consider this responsibility, Laine insists, adding that “enforcement of the decision is based on an erroneous application of law.” His complaint is being made on three grounds. 1. Laine says he has been working on a project and the media created is being distributed via The Pirate Bay. Due to the block, distribution of the content is being affected. 2. As a client of Elisa himself, Laine says that due to the blockade he can no longer download or indeed upload any material that is deemed by creators to be for free distribution. Under copyright law this legal content cannot be a target of the injunction but nevertheless its availability is being threatened. 3. Laine states that the injunction is based on an incorrect application of the law. Service providers can only be ordered to block access to infringing files, but the are huge numbers of other works being affected by the blanket censorship. Furthermore, Laine says that the blockade also affects all legal content uploaded to The Pirate Bay after it was initiated and such preemptive censorship is against Finland’s constitution. In respect of item 3, Laine attached a list of Creative Commons, GPL and Public Domain material affected including content from Dope Stars Inc, titles such as Steal This Film, LionShare and Zeitgeist from Jamie King’s VODO, Rip: A Remix Manifesto, Finland’s own Star Trek parody series Star Wreck and many open source software applications. “No blocking mechanism should block content that’s available legally,” Joonas Mäkinen of Finland’s Pirate Party tells TorrentFreak. “If the proposed methods can’t reasonably differentiate between authorized and non-authorized content, they should never be put in action.” “There is no reason to block even The Pirate Bay’s website itself, as the texts and images there – a whopping 90 megabytes – are definitely not in illegal distribution per se,” Mäkinen adds. Laine seeks a correction of the existing injunction so that it no longer breaches the Copyright Act and Constitutional Law.

  17. Just to let you all know rss was fixed. We know,we had so much to do lately that we forgot about it but now it's alright!
  18. As some of you may have noticed, our donations page currently lists alertPay rather than the normal Paypal you're all used to. This is only a *temporary* change and we expect to have it fixed very soon. The reason for the PayPal omission is that we're currently having a technical issue with our PayPal notification system (the way our site interfaces to PayPal's systems) that's been causing us a bit of grief. We've currently disabled the PayPal option as we work out the few remaining bugs. The bugs don't affect any user accounts or ratios so there's nothing to for you all to worry about. Once we get PayPal back online, you'll have the option to use either PayPal or alertPay. alertPay isn't accepting credits cards as funding sources at the moment, so, unless you already have an established alertPay account, we'd kindly suggest you wait for PayPal to return. For users that were hoping to donate to get credit with Paypal, you'll be able to do so soon. If you're in ratio watch and were relying on donating to get a better ratio, come see us on IRC to fix your account. We'll be happy to. Thank you all for your generous patience. ~ t.bz staff
