  1. Video game developer Capcom is announcing that the rampant rage quitting problem currently associated with Street Fighter V is set to be addressed before the end of the month when the company is aiming to deliver another update for the game. The information comes from a message from the official Twitter account associated with the series, but no information is offered at the moment on how the developers are planning to accomplish this goal. Capcom is also not saying whether this new major update for Street Fighter V will also contain tweaks to gameplay and other new features or if it is designed only to deal with rage quitting and the negative effects that it has on the community. At the moment, the game is trying to isolate all those who have a high disconnect rate, without making a distinction between those who drop out of a match before they are losing and those who have legitimate connection issues. They also lose some of the League Points, a system designed to keep them in the match by making it slightly more interesting to get through a defeat than simply quit when victory is out of reach. The new system will probably seek to make sure that rage quitters are paired with one another in Street Fighter V to make sure that they do not affect the rest of the player community. Street Fighter V is set to get more content in the coming months Rage quitting has been a problem in the new fighting game from Capcom since it was launched and many fans were annoyed to see that the developers delivered such a title without thinking of a way to deal with one of the biggest problems affecting the online side of the genre. Since launch, the studio has also introduced a new training mode, giving players more information about how the moves of each character work, and has added a new combatant while also enabling the shop, although real world money transactions are not yet live. According to Capcom, the plan is to launch a new major update in May that will improve Street Fighter V even more, and during summer the plan is to introduce bigger story modes for all characters while also adding more fighters to the roster. The company also has big competitive plans for its new release and says that it wants to keep delivering updates for years.
  2. Video game developer The Coalition and publisher Microsoft are ready to confirm that they are planning to feature microtransactions in the coming Gears of War 4, allowing players to use them to get access to a range of cosmetic items that are optional and are not required for progress in any mode. Rod Fergusson, the leader of the team, tells Gamespot that the items have no effect on gameplay and that the plan is to make them interesting to the most dedicated fans of the franchise and the new characters. The game maker adds, "I feel like that paradigm of cards is really clear to understand for collectibles, like the ability to collect things. We had weapon skins and character skins, so that idea of collecting cards is just easily understood. It felt like it added some engagement regarding its not the, 'Oh, I like Tiger Stripe. I bought Tiger Stripe. I'm done. I don't need to engage with that system anymore. There's no need for me to hang around'." The option to pick up weapon skins for real world money was included in both the new Ultimate Edition remake for the series and in Gears of War 3. Apparently, all the card packs offered in the official store can also be obtained by playing the shooter and by performing well in multiplayer. Gears of War 4 will focus on JD Fenix Other than cards, The Coalition has offered almost no details about the structure of the multiplayer in the Xbox One version of the shooter. We know that the company aims to keep the core third-person shooter with cover elements structure and to introduce some other elements that gamers will have to take into account during engagements, including the speed and direction of the wind. The single-player story of Gears of War 4 will center on the son of Marcus Fenix, who is investigating a string of weird occurrences alongside two friends while working outside the areas controlled by the government. The entire narrative will take place during a 24-hour period and will involve the introduction of a horrific new threat called The Swarm. Gears of War 4 will be launched on October 11 only on the Xbox One, and gamers can take part in a beta for the title starting on April 18, if they played the Ultimate Edition of Gears and one week later for all other interested fans.
  3. There are two major virtual reality devices on the market at the moment for the PC, and one of the biggest problems is that both have exclusive releases that cannot be experienced on the rival device, despite the fact that both could use an expansion to their library. Now a programmer is showing a way to use proprietary software that he has created to run video games that are exclusive to the Oculus Rift on the Vive device. CrossVr is the nickname of the developer, and so far, he has managed to get both Lucky’s Tale and Oculus Dreamdeck working using his solution, although he says that, for the moment, he needs to use an Xbox One controller for both. He explains on the GitHub page for his cross-compatibility virtual reality solution that, "It works by reimplementing functions from the Oculus Runtime and translating them to OpenVR calls. Unfortunately, Oculus has implemented a Code Signing check on the Runtime DLLs, therefore the Revive DLLs cannot be used unless the application is patched." All those interested in trying out the VR solution that allows for Oculus Rift content to run on the Vive can go to the site and follow the steps, which are not too complicated. In the coming weeks, the solution will get support for more titles, new features, and support for OpenGL and DirectX 12. The PlayStation 4 is coming later in the year Neither of the two virtual reality companies has issued a statement about the Revive concept, but they might try to shut down the program because it eliminates one of the competitive advantages of their platforms, the fact that they have exclusive titles. So far, neither the Oculus Rift nor the Vive is in the hands of too many users, and both companies have been having trouble shipping all the devices that have been pre-ordered by enthusiasts before launch. At some point in the future, both the devices will be able to run each other's experiences as their developers become aware of the fact that a solid install base for virtual reality is an advantage for both. Sony is planning to launch its own PlayStation VR solution in October of this year, and it will only be compatible with the PlayStation 4 home console. It is unclear whether a simple program or patch can be used to make PS VR titles run on the Vive or the Oculus Rift.
  4. Final Fantasy XV is one of the biggest video games set to arrive in 2016, but when the current director working on the Japanese role-playing game at Square Enix took over leadership of the team, the intellectual property was apparently dying and was considered to be past its peak. The information comes from Hajime Tabata, who tells Game Informer that new fans were not attracted to the franchise and that the image associated with the game was not clear. The game director of Final Fantasy XV adds, "One thing I've felt from fans is that they are disappointed in the current state of Final Fantasy, but still have hope regarding where the brand could go." Hajime Tabata says that, since then, his studio decided to settle on its willingness to change the status quo as a core idea for the franchise. Moreover, it also decided to create a video game that offers an exception experience and to employ cutting-edge tech to use the power of hardware associated with the new home consoles. Apparently, Final Fantasy XV is the first video game in the franchise to deliver on all these concepts since Final Fantasy VII, which was launched way back in 1997. The new JRPG aims to improve both gameplay and narrative Hajime Tabata has said that his team has used the extensive development time for Final Fantasy XV to introduce some new ideas to the series, which should appeal both to those who loved for years and to those who might try it out for the first time. The Active Cross Battle system is designed to give players more control over the actions of their characters, making sure that they can choose from a range of moves by using the buttons on the controller rather than a menu system. The world of Final Fantasy XV will be pretty similar to that of Earth, featuring cars and other tech advances, but magic is also part of the setting, and Noctis is one of the few people who can control it and use it to save his kingdom. Square Enix is also planning to launch an anime associated with the game and a Kingsglaive movie to deliver extra lore about the universe. Final Fantasy XV will be launched in September 2016 on the PlayStation 4 from Sony and the Xbox One from Microsoft, and Square Enix has been saying that it might consider working on a PC port once the first two versions are out.
  5. Earlier, April 13, 2016, Google has promoted the Chrome 50 web browser to the stable channel for all supported operating systems, including GNU/Linux, Mac OS X, and Microsoft Windows. The final release of the Chrome 50 web browser (technical version number is 50.0.2661.75), which has been in development for the past few months, comes a few hours after Google pushed the same version to the Beta channel but then decided that it was stable enough to be sent to users' computers as an OTA (Over-the-Air) update. "The Chrome team is delighted to announce the promotion of Chrome 50 to the stable channel for Windows, Mac and Linux," said Krishna Govind in the announcement. "Google Chrome 50.0.2661.75 contains a number of fixes and improvements - a list of changes is available in the log." Push notification improvements, Wayland support for Linux As expected, Google Chrome 50 is based on the latest stable version of the open-source Chromium web browser and brings with it assorted improvements and security fixes, promising to offer users a more stable, faster, and reliable tool that they can use to surf the Internet all day long. Some noteworthy features of the Google Chrome 50 web browser are push notification improvements, declarative preload for faster loading of web pages, and as initially spotted by Michael Larabel from Phoronix, support for the next-generation Wayland display server for GNU/Linux operating systems. Of course, Google has also managed to patch a total of 20 security issues and award those who helped discovered them. You can download Google Chrome 50 for GNU/Linux, Mac OS X, and Microsoft Windows operating systems right now via our website, or simply update to the new version using the browser's built-in updater functionality.
  6. The official Twitter app for Windows 10 launched recently on PCs and smartphones with a completely overhauled look and feature lineup, thus becoming one of the pioneers of Microsoft’s universal app concept. And today, the company has rolled out a new update for the official client, aiming to continue improving it even more on both PCs and smartphones running Windows 10. A change log is not available for this release, but the first change you should notice after downloading the new update is the changed splash screen. Twitter launched on Windows 10 with a dark splash screen, but it’s now blue to bring the app in line with its siblings on other platforms. Furthermore, it appears that the Twitter app is now much faster than before, especially when loading, so it goes without saying that this update should be installed by everyone on Windows 10. Other performance improvements and bug fixes are expected to be part of this release, but without a change log, it’s hard to tell if anything else has changed. As usual, the update is delivered through the store on both PCs and mobile devices, so fire up the Windows Store and look for the new version right now if you’re an avid Twitter user. By default, the store automatically updates apps, so if you haven’t changed the default configuration, the new Twitter app should already be there.
  7. We’ve known for a while that Microsoft is bringing its super awesome Word Flow keyboard that’s built into Windows Phone on iPhones too, and it turns out that development is advancing quite nicely and the software giant is ready to advance to the next step. Redmond has officially started a closed beta program of Word Flow on iOS, allowing users to register and try out the keyboard before it’s released to the store. Previously, the app was only available for select testers, but Microsoft is now giving interested users the chance to try it out on their devices too. “Thank you for your interest in Word Flow for iPhone, a Microsoft Garage Project! Our app is currently in a closed beta release, which means we want to get it JUST right before we open it up to everyone. Please enter your email address below, so that we can send you an invitation as soon as the Word Flow for iPhone app is ready,” Microsoft says on the website for the new beta program. Exclusive features on iOS It’s no secret that bringing Windows Phone apps on iOS has been received with criticism from the Windows community, but here’s something that could make it even worse. Word Flow arrives on iOS with two exclusive features that will make the app even more advanced than it currently is on Windows Phone. Microsoft will allow iPhone owners to customize the background of their keyboards with their own photo or one of the built-in themes, a feature that’s not yet available on Windows phones. Furthermore, there’s a new one-handed mode that makes it easy to type with just one hand by moving all keys to the side of the screen in an arc shape. Microsoft is expected to release the app in the store in the summer, with some sources claiming that June could be the month when Word Flow will land on iPhones. https://youtu.be/RlcE1334_ew
  8. Our favorite time-wasting and productivity killer game Solitaire is now available with a special promo on Windows 10, allowing users to try out the premium version completely free of charge for one week. Supposed to be more of a trial that would allow Windows 10 users to discover the advantages of a premium subscription, the limited-time Solitaire offer requires a Microsoft account and begins from the moment you sign into the game for the first time. In case you’re wondering why on Earth someone would want to buy a premium subscription for Solitaire, there are several reasons to do so. First of all, the premium version of the game comes with no advertisements and commercials, and also brings double coins in Daily Challenges, a wild card or extra deal in each game of TriPeaks and Pyramid. “When your free week ends, you will still retain all the benefits of being signed in like saving your games in the cloud, achievements, and access to exclusive upcoming features. And you will be able to purchase the Premium Benefits at any time,” Microsoft explains. The latest version of the game needs to be installed in order to receive the one-week trial, and you can get it from the store. If you’re already on version 3.8.4092.0 or later, you should see the offer when launching the game.
  9. Microsoft has just filed a lawsuit against the United States Justice Department, claiming that accessing user data stored in the cloud without letting customers know about it is “unconstitutional.” Specifically, the lawsuit filed in US District Court of Seattle, claims that by accessing email and other cloud data belonging to users is not constitutional unless the customer who is being investigated is informed first, according to a report by GeekWire. Microsoft says Section 2705(b) of the Electronic Communications Privacy Act “violates both the Fourth and the Fifth Amendment,” explaining that “people do not give up their rights when they move their private information from physical storage to the cloud. Microsoft therefore asks the Court to declare that Section 2705(b) is unconstitutional on its face.” More than 2,600 secrecy orders in 18 months The aforementioned regulation allows the government to obtain an order that would block companies from letting customers know that their data is being analyzed by law enforcement agencies. The Redmond-based software giant says that federal courts have issued a total of 2,600 such secrecy orders only in the last 18 months. Between September 2014 and March 2016, Redmond received more than 5,600 requests to provide the government with access to customer data or information. Some of these requests had no fixed end date, Microsoft claimed, which means that the company didn’t even know when it could let customers know that their data is being analyzed by the government. “The vast majority of these secrecy orders related to consumer accounts and prevent Microsoft from telling affected individuals about the government’s intrusion into their personal affairs; others prevent Microsoft from telling business customers that the government has searched and seized the emails of individual employees of the customer,” it says. Microsoft explains in the official lawsuit documents that there are indeed cases when tech companies shouldn’t inform customers that their cloud data is accessed by law enforcement agencies. But even so, such a secrecy order must come with a fixed date, after which users should find out about it, Microsoft explained.
  10. Microsoft has just launched what it calls a Windows 10 emulator that’s supposed to show you the advantages of the new operating system and let you see them in action to decide whether an upgrade is worthy or not. Although it’s called an “emulator,” this new website is more of a portal that contains details about Windows 10’s features, showing info and videos that present the most important options in the operating system at work. You can thus get to meet Cortana, find out more about the new Start menu and pretty much everything else about Windows 10 from this page, and Microsoft believes that all of these should help you make a decision on whether you should install the new OS or not. There are 11 topics on the website, and each comes with at least one video, so you should easily figure out what Windows 10 is all about. Of course, a genuine emulator that would actually let you try out Windows 10 in your browser would have been a much better idea, but this clearly involves more work, and Redmond just wanted to go the easy way. 1 billion devices running Windows 10 by 2017 Microsoft has a goal of bringing Windows 10 on 1 billion devices by 2017, so every little thing matters when it comes to its efforts to convince more users to upgrade. Back at Build 2016 developer conference, the company revealed that there were 270 million devices upgraded to Windows 10, and while it emphasized that this is the fastest adoption Windows version ever, it looks quite difficult to reach the aforementioned 1 billion devices goal. Windows 10 remains available free of charge to users of Windows 7 and 8.1 until July 29, and enterprises should also begin the transition later this year, so Microsoft expects adoption figures to continue growing in the coming months.
  11. Google Chrome 50 has been released earlier today with no less than 20 security improvements, but as far as Windows and Mac users are concerned, the launch of the new version also marks an important milestone. Starting today, Google Chrome no longer supports old versions of the two operating systems, and although the browser will continue to run on both just like before, no other updates and security patches are planned. This means that should any vulnerabilities be discovered in the browser, users on the unsupported platforms will not get a patch and can thus become a target for cybercriminals developing exploits for these flaws. Windows XP still running on 10 percent of PCs Specifically, the unsupported OSes are Windows XP, as well as Windows Vista, and Mac OS X 10.6, 10.7, and 10.8, with Google announcing in November 2015 that this decision was made because they were no longer actively supported by Microsoft and Apple. “Such older platforms are missing critical security updates and have a greater potential to be infected by viruses and malware,” Google explained. “Chrome will continue to function on these platforms but will no longer receive updates and security fixes. If you are still on one of these unsupported platforms, we encourage you to move to a newer operating system to ensure that you continue to receive the latest Chrome versions and features.” For Windows XP users, browser choices are becoming more limited, as Google Chrome joins Internet Explorer on the list of apps no longer supporting the platform. Mozilla Firefox continues to offer support for Windows XP, and so does Opera, although it’s just a matter of time until their devs switch focus to newer platforms too. Without a doubt, users still running such old platforms are recommended to upgrade as soon as possible because they could easily become vulnerable to attacks without security updates from Microsoft, Apple and third-party developers.
  12. Microsoft presented an improved Start menu at the Build 2016 developer conference a couple of weeks back, and the company said that this feature would be part of the Anniversary Update coming in the summer. Obviously, before releasing it to the public, Microsoft wants to let insiders try it out and provide feedback, so rumor now has it that the company has already completed internal testing of the revamped Start menu and is getting ready to release it in preview builds of Windows 10. The next Windows 10 for PC build, which is expected to see daylight next week, is thus very likely to include the overhauled Start menu, according to a report by WinBeta. At the same time, an improved Start screen is expected to be part of the release for the overhauled tablet mode. What the new Start menu is all about Microsoft’s new Start menu adopts an improved layout to make it easier for users to access their apps, so it comes with a hamburger menu hiding information such as user account and settings. The All Apps view is now in the main Start menu, alongside the most used apps, so it’s very clear that Microsoft wants to put apps at the center of everything. The improved Start menu and Start screen will both be part of the Anniversary Update coming in the summer, but Microsoft still wants to collect feedback before rolling it out. The company is actually requesting insiders to vote for the new Start menu, so it hasn’t yet made a decision on whether to release it to everyone or not. It all depends on how it’ll be received by insiders in these Windows 10 preview builds, so it remains to be seen if it’ll make it to retail users too. For the moment, all we know is that the next Windows 10 build will land next week, but a specific day is not yet known.
  13. Microsoft delayed the release of a new Windows 10 Mobile build last week because of a last-minute bug, and the company promised to launch it this week as soon as the issues are being fixed. And despite the fact that the Windows team decided to hold back the release of a new Windows 10 build for PCs, Gabe Aul, head of the Windows Insider program, has said that launching a mobile version is still very likely, explaining that it should land sometime this week. He hasn’t provided any information aside from the fact that it could be build 14322, as this particular version is currently being evaluated internally to decide whether it can be pushed to the fast ring or not. New features in this build Screenshots that have gotten leaked in the last few days have revealed some of the improvements coming in this build, as Microsoft is trying to bring it in line with the latest versions released for PCs. Windows 10 Mobile will get new Windows Update settings, including active hours to prevent the device from installing new updates when you are working on it. At the same time, it’ll also get a custom restart time setting to decide when to install the update despite active hours. Some changes to the Action Center are also expected, as users will be allowed to move quick actions around and rearrange them in the menu using drag and drop. The lock screen will get a new camera icon to quickly launch the camera without having to unlock the phone. Certainly, there will be many more features added in this build, and most should be detailed in the official announcement coming when Microsoft pushes the red button. Keep in mind that this version is part of the Redstone branch and will be available only for devices that received the Windows 10 Mobile upgrade or shipped with it.
  14. Back in January, Microsoft made the fast Windows Insider ring even faster by pledging to release new builds of Windows 10 more frequently than before. Since then, the company has been rolling out new builds almost every week, so it’s no surprise that everyone expected such a release these days too. But as far as this week’s build is concerned, it has just got delayed because of a last-minute bug that Microsoft discovered when internally testing it, so the company has no other option than to hold it back. Gabe Aul, head of the Windows Insider program, has revealed on Twitter that the Windows team came across a bug, and they decided to delay the release until next week. “We hit a problem with our PC build candidate for this week, so looks likely at this point it will be next week for next Fast ring PC build,” he says in his tweet. This is the purpose of the Insider program While many might be upset that Microsoft isn’t releasing a new Windows 10 for PC build this week, everyone needs to understand that the purpose of the Windows Insider program is to provide us with access to early Windows features, but as long as no major bugs exist. Issues are something quite normal in this development stage, but they’re not supposed to be critical and make PCs unusable. If buggy builds are rolled out to users, everyone is upset that the company breaks down their computers, although it’s clear from the very beginning that running Insider previews on a production machine is not recommended. For the moment, the Windows Insider program is advancing quite nicely, and Microsoft can’t be anything but pleased with how this collaboration with users around the world is going. Many features of the OS are based on user feedback, and the same approach is adopted for other products too, including the Office productivity suite.

  21. Netflix's release of the fourth season of House of Cards has turned into a bitter disappointment for fans in dozens of countries. Due to "legacy" licensing agreements, Netflix is not allowed to show its own original programming in countries such as Germany, Switzerland, Spain and Hong Kong, causing many people to turn to pirate sources. Traditionally the movie industry has relied on geographical licensing deals through which movie and TV-show rights are sold to separate parties in various countries. As a relative newcomer to the business, Netflix’s vision is to do things differently. The company’s aim is to make as much content available globally as it can and is developing several movies and TV-shows in-house to advance this mission. With this in mind, one would think that geographical copyright restrictions are no longer an issue for Netflix’s own original programming, but unfortunately this is not the case. Last week Netflix released the latest season of House of Cards, something millions of people were looking forward to. However, Netflix subscribers in dozens of countries are not able to watch it, yet, due to licensing issues. House of Cards fans in Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Hong Kong, Turkey and most of Africa are among those missing out. They can watch the first seasons, but there’s no sign of the new episodes. Even worse, in some countries House of Cards isn’t available at all. Needless to say, the missing House of Cards episodes are being met with a mixture of surprise and anger online. Missing cards TorrentFreak reached out to Netflix for an explanation and we were informed that the company doesn’t have global licences for its drama series House of Cards and Orange Is The New Black. The latter series is entirely absent from Netflix in over 50 countries. “Most of our originals content will be available globally. However, with these two earlier shows, we didn’t negotiate global licenses to the content and so they’ve aired on other platforms in the meantime,” the company states. “We may get them back in some of our new markets. For example, we have Orange is the New Black available in our new countries in Asia, with the title coming to the Middle East and Africa later this year,” Netflix adds. This situation is quite painful since Netflix has repeatedly called on the movie industry to offer its content globally, without artificial barriers. Apparently, they haven’t managed to do this for all of their own content yet. According to Netflix CEO Reed Hastings the licensing issues are a legacy from the last seven or eight years, which they hope to get rid of in the near future. “We’re moving as quickly as we can to have global availability of all the content on Netflix so that there are not regional distinctions. We’re still somewhat a prisoner of the current distribution architecture, we’re trying really hard to get there,” he said. In the meantime, House of Card fans who live in the wrong country must hold their breath, although many are already looking for alternative means to get what they want…
  22. While many VPN providers say they do not log their users' activities in order to protect anonymity, it's not often their claims get tested in the wild. However, a criminal complaint filed by the FBI this week notes that a subpoena sent to Private Internet Access resulted in no useful data being revealed about a suspected hoaxer. With monitoring and spying now a fact of life on the Internet, millions of privacy conscious individuals have taken to protecting their online identities. Many choose to do so by using companies that offer a Virtual Private Network (VPN) service. In layman’s terms a VPN replaces the user’s IP address with one under the control of the company, meaning that their own IP is kept private when accessing services online. However, some VPN companies carry extensive logs which mean that when put under pressure they are able to link a user’s account to specific online activity. This kind of setup is clearly self-defeating from a privacy perspective so in recent years it has become common for VPN providers to disclose their logging practices, as detailed in our annual report, for example. But still, the big question remains: how can a prospective customer be sure that their VPN provider really keeps no logs? In reality the answer to that question is largely a matter of trust, weighed up against the goodwill the company has built up over its time in business. That being said, an interesting case that appeared in a Florida district court this week has seen one provider’s no-logging policy being officially tested. The criminal complaint (here) details the FBI’s suspicions that 25-year-old Preston McWaters had conveyed “false or misleading information regarding an explosive device”. In other words, he made a false bomb threat. The investigating FBI agent goes into some detail on the case, which begins with claims that McWaters stalked former co-worker Devon Kenney by calling her, texting her, sending her messages on Facebook and showing up at her house. In all, it’s estimated that McWaters contacted his former co-worker more than 100 times. In December a number of hoax bomb threats were sent to a variety of locations including schools and airports, generally in the name of Eric Mead or a variation thereof, via Twitter and email. Eric Mead is the name of Kenney’s current boyfriend and he denies making any of the threats. So the FBI started digging and in February 2016 two search warrants against Twitter and Facebook required them to turn over information on several accounts. Both did and the criminal complaint makes it clear that the FBI believes that McWaters was behind the accounts and the threats. With McWaters apparently leaving incriminating evidence all over the place (including CCTV at Walmart where he allegedly purchased a pre-paid Tracfone after arriving in his own car), the FBI turned to IP address evidence available elsewhere. “During the course of the investigation, subpoenas and search warrants have been directed to various companies in an attempt to identify the internet protocol (IP) address from where the email messages are being sent,” the complaint reads. “All of the responses from [email provider] 1&1, Facebook, Twitter, and Tracfone have been traced by IP address back to a company named London Trust Media [doing business as] PrivateInternetAccess.com.” By this point in the complaint it’s clear that even without the IP address information the FBI already had enough evidence to pin the threats on McWaters. Nevertheless, they ordered PIA to hand over its logs. “A subpoena was sent to London Trust Media and the only information they could provide is that the cluster of IP addresses being used was from the east coast of the United States,” the FBI’s complaint reads. “However, London Trust did provide that they accept payment for their services through credit card with a vendor company of Stripe and/or Amazon. They also accept forms of payment online through PayPal, Bitpay, Bit Coin, Cash You, Ripple, Ok Pay, and Pay Garden.” In the event the FBI was unable to link McWaters to any payment to the company. However, they did find a payment to another provider. “Although the investigation has not revealed any payment by McWaters to London Trust, he did make a purchase from AnchorFree Inc [HotspotShield VPN] on October 23, 2015,” the complaint notes. While McWaters is yet to be found guilty, it’s a sad fact that some people will use anonymizing services such as VPNs, pre-paid phones and anonymous email providers to harass others. And thankfully, as this case shows, they’ll need to hide a lot more than their IP address to get away with that level of crime. Nevertheless, there are plenty of decent people using services like PIA’s and those users will be comforted that their privacy remains intact. “Our company was subpoenaed by the FBI for user activity logs relating to this matter,” London Trust Media Executive Chairman Andrew Lee informs TorrentFreak. “After scrutinizing the validity of the subpoena and confirming it, we restated as we always do the content of our privacy policy and then we notified the agent that we do not log any user activity. 23. The upcoming Ghostbusters reboot has been nothing if not controversial. Between swapping the gender of the titular team, to accusations of racism against Leslie Jones’ character Patty Tolan, to the simple fact that people don’t want the classic comedy to receive an update, the film has rubbed numerous people the wrong way. The recent trailer did it no favors either, as much of the comedy fell flat and it received widespread panning from the online community. However, according to filmmaker Kevin Smith, that fault lies with the trailer, and not necessarily with the movie itself. Kevin Smith recently issued a statement on his Hollywood Babble-On podcast condemning the quality of the Ghostbusters trailer, but holding out hope for the movie itself: Whoever cut this trailer needs to be sat down, and I'm not going to call for their job to be taken away from them but they need to be scolded. It could've been all men with the same jokes, and it still would have sucked. The trailer's not strong, and that doesn't mean the movie's gonna blow, like again the fucking pedigree of this movie is undeniable. There's no way all these people involved don't make a fucking funny, at least watchable fun movie. We have to give Kevin Smith a fair degree of credit for the way in which he phrased that statement. Unlike many people – who have pretty much panned the trailer as well as the movie – he acknowledges that the trailer’s quality might not necessarily be indicative of the film’s overall quality. It’s a film packed to the brim with some of the most reliably funny actors and filmmakers working today, and as such we hold out hope that the film will actually blow us away when we see it. What some people also need to remember is that filmmakers often do not cut their own trailers. Hollywood is full of companies that specialize in trailer editing, and as such the process is often outsourced to these specialists. Sometimes that works in a films favor, and often times it does not. Paul Feig and all of the women starring in Ghostbusters may very will bring their A-game and deliver an absolutely hilarious movie, but the trailer may not have sold that. 24. The foul-mouthed, murder-happy, fourth-wall-breaking anti-superhero Deadpool, and the Ryan Reynolds-starring movie that bears his name, has been out and roaming free for almost a month now. In that time it has broken records, amassed more than $680 million worldwide, and substantially impacted the discussion of comic book movies (the idea of R-rated superhero movies is being discussed much more freely than it was even a few months ago). Only recently was it knocked out of the top spot at the box office, but that doesn’t mean Reynolds and company are finished having fun, and the Canadian actor just released a funny new video to help Deadpool celebrate another milestone, it’s "Monthiversary." It may have been a bit relentless the last few weeks before release, but the Deadpool marketing campaign was kind of perfect and ingenious. Overall it truly captured the snarky, sarcastic sense of humor favored by the Merc with the Mouth, and it was clever, inventive, and the people behind it were obviously having a great deal of fun—they did everything from mock the entire country of Australia to advise men to fondle their testicles, for health, reasons, of course. Even though the movie has been out for a while, it doesn’t look like they want to give it up, as Ryan Reynolds posted this new video to mark the one-month anniversary, like a junior high couple. Gritty, grainy, and looking like it was made from clips lifted off of a series of warped VHS tapes you found in your garage, this video extols the virtues of Deadpool, "the several times in a lifetime experience guaranteed to make your whole family pregnant." It makes sense for Ryan Reynolds to keep pumping Deadpool. After all, this movie was a labor of love for the star, as well as writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, and director Tim Miller. They struggled for years to get it made, and to get it made with an R-rating, which was appreciated by fans of the notoriously violent and potty-mouthed comic. It must be quite vindicating for them to see something they slaved over and fought for become such a huge hit, especially when so many people doubted them along the way. Deadpool is currently the third highest grossing R-rated movie of all time domestically, behind only The Passion of the Christ and American Sniper, and the second highest grossing worldwide behind The Matrix: Reloaded. Because of this success, Deadpool 2 is, of course, on the way, slated to hit sometime in 2017.
  25. The DC Extended Universe has only just gotten started, but a course has already been plotted for where the franchise will take its biggest heroes. After the events of Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice not only explores the aftermath of Superman’s debut and Batman’s distrust towards the Kryptonian, but also introduces the main members of the Justice League (minus Green Lantern). These movies subsequently form an unofficial “trilogy” with 2017’s Justice League: Part One, but the first official team-up adventure with these heroes will adopt a different tone from its predecessor. Having described Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice as being similar Empire Strikes Back or The Two Towers, writer Chris Terrio told The Wall Street Journal that he doesn’t expect Justice League: Part One to quite as dark the previous entry in this “trilogy.” He stated: I expect Justice League will be tonally not quite as dark as Batman v Superman. From that point of view, I felt compelled to go back and try to lift us and myself into a different tonal place because I think when you write a darker film, sometimes you want to redeem it all a bit. Ever since Man of Steel delivered a Superman story that was darker than its cinematic predecessors, some fans have been worried that the DCEU might be going too dark with their storytelling. While the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice previews certainly show that the movie will be intense and emotional, it’s becoming clearer that this won’t be the case for this entire cinematic universe. For instance, The Flash and Shazam will reportedly be more lighthearted, and Terrio’s comments point to Justice League: Part One being brighter than the earlier films. If Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is Empire Strikes Back, then Justice League: Part One is Return of the Jedi. Sure, there will be some dark moments, but they won’t take hold of the entire story. Chris Terrio also mentioned that despite Justice League: Part Two following in 2019, he’s not sure yet if he’ll pen the sequel, noting that writing the first movie has been “the most rigorous intellectual exercise” he’s had with writing. His research for characters like The Flash, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman has included reading about physics, mythology, and even what kind of sealife may exist at the bottom of the Mariana Trench, the deepest part of the ocean. Aside from new characters being added, like Mera and Commissioner Gordon, details are scarce about what to expect from Justice League: Part One, aside from Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Flash, and Cyborg officially joining forces for the first time. Still, it will no doubt be a comfort to many fans that the movie will lighten up a bit in the midst of all the action. So, no matter which villain they’re battling (whether it’s Darkseid, Brainiac, or someone else), these heroes won’t be in a somber-feeling environment, Justice League: Part One hits theaters on November 17, 2017, and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice opens in a few weeks, on March 25.
