  1. A first look at Billy Porter as the Fairy Godmother from the upcoming Cinderella movie has just been revealed. Cinderella will be an Amazon Prime Original from writer-director, Kay Cannon, who wants to modernize the classic tale. The film will be a jukebox musical, using pop songs to fill out its soundtrack. Singer Camila Cabello will play the titular role with Nicholas Galitzine playing Prince Robert. Pose's Billy Porter will star as the iconic Fairy Godmother. Porter intends to reinvent this role by providing a fresh take on the classic character. In this new film, his persona will be known as the Fab G. Cannon specifically cast Porter to help modernize the character and says that she wrote the role specifically with the actor in mind. Porter is known for his lavish, gender-bending fashion and colorful personality. Therefore, the Fab G is likely to be the same. START NOW RELATED: How Cinderella Broke A Common Disney Princess Trope Now, EW has shared a new image of what Porter will look like as the Fab G in the upcoming film. The costume is very extravagant and makes a bold statement. It looks like something Porter himself would actually wear on the red carpet, which is likely the intent, since the role is based on his real-life personality. Check out the first-look photo below: There have been a number of Cinderella movies over the years starring celebrities from Brandy, to Hillary Duff, and now to Camila Cabello. This version looks to be quite different from the others, since it will be relying on established pop music. This will also be the first time the Fairy Godmother will be played by a man, as the role is typically given to a woman. It is these differences that may make this movie something special and unique, which is a benefit since there have been so many Cinderella stories released already. Cinderella was originally going to be a theatrical release, but it was recently changed to be a Prime-exclusive, which means people will only be able to watch it on the streaming service. This film could possibly add to Amazon's growing list of high-quality original offerings in an effort to increase the number of Prime subscribers. If this film turns out to be a hit, there could be multiple sequels announced in the very near future.
  2. Indiana Jones 5 is rounding out its cast with Logan and The Resident stars Boyd Holbrook and Shaunette RenĂ©e Wilson. Ford first starred as the bullwhip-wielding archaeologist in 1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark, but he most recently reprised the role for the disappointing Kingdom of the Crystal Skull in 2008. While many were delighted to see Ford return to his iconic role after a nearly 20-year absence, the latest installment starring Shia LaBeouf failed to recapture the spirit of the original beloved trilogy. Following Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm in 2012, a fifth Indiana Jones movie was announced four years later, but the project got stuck in development hell for years. Multiple writers worked to hash out a script and Steven Spielberg handed the directing reins off to Ford v Ferrari helmer James Mangold. However, the cast has been shaping up nicely as Indiana Jones 5 prepares to begin production this summer ahead of its release in 2022. MCU alum Mads Mikkelsen and Thomas Kretschmann are on board to co-star opposite Ford, along with the dry-witted Phoebe Waller-Bridge of Fleabag fame. Currently, all roles are undisclosed. START NOW RELATED:Indiana Jones 5: Ford's Return Needs To Be Like Blade Runner (Not Star Wars) Now, two more actors are coming on board the project. According to Deadline, Indiana Jones 5 is rounding out its cast with Boyd Holbrook and Shaunette RenĂ©e Wilson. Holbrook, who broke out on Netflix’s Narcos, has starred in a number of tent poles recently, including The Predator in 2018 and Mangold’s own Logan. On the other hand, Wilson is best known for her small-screen roles on Showtime’s Billions and Fox’s medical drama The Resident, though she did have a small role in Black Panther. While the third Indiana Jones movie in 1989 was titled The Last Crusade, Indiana Jones 5 will more than likely be Ford's last crusade as Indy, as he will be an octogenarian by the time the film is released. After wanting out of Stars Wars, it seems Ford is becoming less and less interested in being tied down by franchise roles in his older age. Considering that John Williams, whose iconic score is associated with Indiana Jones just as much as Ford, will be 90 years old by the time his work on Indiana Jones 5 is complete, there is a good chance this is the last time the legendary Star Wars composer lends his chops to another Lucasfilm franchise. Similar to every other casting announced thus far, there are no details as to who Holbrook and Wilson will be playing. However, fans of the long-running franchise are likely just happy to hear the project is chugging along smoothly. Hopefully, Indiana Jones 5 will provide a proper sendoff for one of the screen's most iconic heroes.
  3. Sony Pictures has unveiled a new teaser from the upcoming Hotel Transylvania 4, subtitled Transformania, announcing a full trailer is set to arrive on Monday. The fourth installment in the Todd Durham-created franchise will also be the last for the animated fantasy comedy hit. After seeing numerous changes in its release schedule, Hotel Transylvania 4 is now set to hit theaters on July 23. On the heels of the third film scoring the best box numbers of the franchise so far, Sony Pictures Animation greenlit a fourth film's development in February 2019, though series director Genndy Tartakovsky confirmed that October he wouldn't return to direct the movie. Jennifer Kluska and Derek Drymon were instead brought on board, with Tartakovsky writing the script. Though the majority of the cast are returning for the final outing, it was recently revealed that star Adam Sandler would be replaced by Brian Hull as Dracula, though it's still unclear as to the reason why he left. RELATED: Every Upcoming Adam Sandler Movie Sony took to the Hotel Transylvania Twitter account to announce a trailer for Transformania will be arriving this upcoming Monday. To celebrate, the studio also unveiled a brief snippet of footage of Hull's Dracula, Andy Samberg's Johnny, and Selena Gomez's Mavis. The teaser can be viewed below: Since its debut in 2012, the Hotel Transylvania series has been one of the most consistently surprising family-friendly franchises out there. Though not reaching the same highs of Sony's Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs series, the films also don't hit the lows of some other Sandler-starring efforts or some recent family fare including Warner Bros.' Tom & Jerry. The teaser doesn't offer much insight on Hotel Transylvania 4's story, but it point towards more giddy and colorfully-animated adventures. Plus, with a brief bit of audio from Hull's Dracula showing a faithful recreation of Sandler's voice work on the character, it appears the franchise will go out with a bang despite one star's absence. Even for those who aren't devoted fans of Hotel Transylvania, it should come as a bit of a sad surprise that the films are coming to an end. With an impressive ensemble voice cast and the involvement of a legendary animation director, it seemed like the sky was the limit for the franchise. Though it's certainly made the most of its characters, some were likely hoping for future installments. For now, audiences will have to wait and see how the monster-filled series comes to an end when Hotel Transylvania 4 hits theaters this July.
  4. Mary Elizabeth Winstead is an assassin in Kate movie first look images. Winstead portrayed the crossbow-wielding killer Huntress in Birds of Prey, and must’ve really enjoyed the experience of taking lives on screen, because she’s next set to star as an assassin Netflix’s Kate. But Kate is not in fact just a run of the mill assassin movie. The twist this time is that Winstead’s titular Kate learns while on a job in Tokyo that she has been injected with poison, giving her just 24 hours to live. Being an assassin, Kate sets out to find the person who poisoned her and kill them before her own ticking clock runs out. Winstead is joined in the movie’s cast by Woody Harrelson, who plays Kate’s handler. The film also stars Japanese actor and musician Miyavi, along with Miku Martineau, Tadanobu Asano, Michiel Huisman, and Jun Kunimura. It’s directed by Cedric Nicolas-Troyan (The Huntsman: Winter's War) from a script credited to Umair Aleem (Extraction). START NOW RELATED: All 27 2021 Netflix Movies Explained Netflix plans to release Kate worldwide in fall of 2021 but audiences can get an early taste via some first look images from EW. As the pictures show, things get pretty rough and bloody for Winstead’s character as she races against the clock to find her own killer (not a surprise for a movie written by the same person who penned the wildly violent Extraction). See the images in the space below: As if the ticking clock working against her character weren’t enough, Winstead reveals that Kate sees her assassin being joined by an unlikely ally who changes the stakes. As Winstead herself explained, “Along the way, [Kate] forges this bond with this teenage girl named Ani (Miku Martineau), and they end up taking on this mission together. It's a heartfelt, brutal, assassin story!" Winstead is obviously no stranger to action after starring alongside Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn in the aforementioned Birds of Prey. But though Winstead's Huntress was certainly a memorable character in that movie, she was very much placed in a supporting role to Quinn. Kate however sees Winstead taking the driver’s seat in a very female-centric film that sounds like it will be loaded with lots of action and violence. The handful of first look images featured above certainly show Winstead looking cool and angry and ready to take some lives as she seeks to take down the person who poisoned her. The ticking clock element should indeed give the film extra suspense. It will be interesting also to see how the character of Ani changes the mix as Kate goes about her bloody business. Fans of female assassin movies certainly have a lot to look forward to thanks to Netflix, as Kate is joined on their roster of upcoming releases by the Karen Gillan-led assassin film Gunpowder Milkshake.
  5. Disenchanted director Adam Shankman teases a huge update is coming this week. Disney's beloved 2007 live-action/animated hybrid Enchanted is finally getting a sequel, and anticipation is steadily building. The original movie starred Amy Adams as princess-to-be Giselle who, on the day of her wedding to Prince Edward (James Marsden), falls through a magical portal and lands in modern day New York City. Enchanted was a critical success, with many praising how it tackled Disney's typical fairytale formula, and it helped turn Adams into a bona fide movie star. A sequel has been in the works for years now, but it's taken quite some time to come to fruition. Real progress finally kicked into gear late last year, when Enchanted 2 was formally announced and titled at Disney's Investor Day event. The film will be a Disney+ exclusive, and it will feature the returns of original stars Adams, Patrick Dempsey, Idina Menzel, and Marsden. Newcomers to the world of Andalasia/NYC include Maya Rudolph, Jayma Mays, and Yvette Nicole Brown. Continue Scrolling To Keep ReadingClick the button below to start this article in quick view. START NOW RELATED: Disney+: Every New Movie & TV Show Coming In May 2021 With Disenchanted, Shankman takes over from the first movie's Kevin Lima as director. This past weekend, Shankman posted a picture of himself on set and shared his enthusiasm for being back at work. Most excitingly, he wrote that there is "huge news coming this week on #disenchanted and #hocuspocus2 to discuss and we will lean into it all." While he couldn't say what said news will be, he added it's "all REALLY REALLY good." You can see Shankman's full post down below. Dempsey had previously said Disenchanted was looking to film in the spring, and it looks like work is officially underway. As for what this week's news could be, there are many options. Footage from Disenchanted seems unlikely, but an official image of, say, Adams back in character as Giselle isn't out of the question. There could perhaps be additional casting news as well, or even a release date. Right now, Disenchanted doesn't have a time frame, but Disney might be willing to release something now that production has begun. An Enchanted 2 has been a long time coming, but it's finally happening now. There are still many questions surrounding the project, such as whether any other familiar faces from Enchanted will return or what the plot will be. After years of virtual radio silence, it's actually refreshing to have several new updates arriving within the past few months, with another one on the way this week. Should it be a release date, fans might finally know exactly when they can expect to see this next chapter in Giselle's story. Provided production just started, Disenchanted might not get to premiere on Disney+ until early next year. In that case, fans will already have something to look forward to going into 2022. Stay tuned for more updates this week.
  6. New footage from the upcoming Jurassic World VelociCoaster attraction at Universal Studios Orlando shows muzzled raptors in action. The ride has been scheduled to officially open on June 10, and fans of the franchise – which, in recent years has gained a new degree of momentum from the Jurassic World films, still love raptors after all these years. There’s been a significant amount of buzz in the lead up to the VelociCoaster, due primarily to the fact that the ride isn’t some half-hearted tie-in with the franchise. The release of the third and final film in the Jurassic World trilogy, Jurassic World: Domination, is still a year off, but based on what’s been seen of the VelociCoaster so far, the ride will thrill even those who have never seen any of the Jurassic films. Reaching speeds of up to 70mph and taking on a stunning 155-foot drop, the VelociCoaster allows guests to race through the jungle, alongside raptors - one of the most popular breeds of dinosaurs in the film series. In fact, upon arriving at the attraction in Universal Orlando’s Islands of Adventure, guests will be able to keep an eye on the raptor paddock as they prepare to board the VelociCoaster. RELATED:How Jurassic Park's Future Can Fix Its Biggest Dinosaur Mistake With the opening of the Jurassic World VelociCoaster now less than a month away, Universal Studios Orlando has posted a short but impressive video of a muzzled raptor via the official Universal Orlando Instagram account. The animatronic raptor – the likes of which are apparently visible throughout the attraction, can be seen struggling slightly with the muzzle, its eyes alive and blinking as its reptilian flesh rises and falls with each breath. It’s an impressive bit of animatronics for a rollercoaster, further hinting at a highly unique experience for guests and Jurassic fans alike. Check out the video below: Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, theme parks have faced some pretty restrictive measures to their business model over the past year. This isn’t especially unique compared to other businesses that have suffered greatly throughout the pandemic, but while Universal Orlando’s sister park in Hollywood only recently reopened this past April, Universal Studios Orlando has managed to stay open in some capacity since last June. This is great news for those diehard fans who feared that the VelociCoaster’s opening date could end up being pushed back as a result of Covid’s unpredictability. As things currently stand, Universal Studios Orlando appears to be completely prepared for the ride’s June 10 opening, and that is great news for all. Everything that has been seen so far of the Jurassic World VelociCoaster offers glimpses of a rollercoaster that not only works to incorporate the speed and thrills of the raptor with the recognizability of the famed film franchise, but also seems to take the very concept of a rollercoaster to all new heights. Fans of the Jurassic World films may feel slightly cheated that this won’t be the summer that Dominion hits theaters, but hopefully Universal’s VelociCoaster will be a suitable substitution for the time being.
  7. Chris Hemsworth shares a very low-budget Thor: Love and Thunder poster featuring him and director Taika Waititi. Marvel Studios gave the god of thunder a tonal makeover with Thor: Ragnarok by bringing Waititi aboard. After two Shakespearan and more serious solo films, the writer/director injected Thor's movies with an overwhelming comedic nature, a crazier story, and more zany visuals. This led to Thor: Ragnarok saving the franchise and Marvel Studios quickly working to bring Waititi and Hemsworth back for another go-around. Hemsworth and Waititi have been hard at work on Thor: Love and Thunder since the beginning of 2021 when production kicked off in Australia. It didn't take long for set photos to surface showing Thor and the Guardians of the Galaxy on a new adventure and sporting new looks. However, Marvel Studios has done a fairly good job of keeping additional looks at the highly anticipated MCU blockbuster under wraps. Fans are now patiently waiting for some official Thor: Love and Thunder marketing materials to arrive, and Hemsworth has delivered a very low-budget, unofficial first poster. Waititi is directly behind his right shoulder striking a pose for the poster. According to Hemsworth, this Thor: Love and Thunder poster has a clear message that there will be plenty of love and thunder in the movie. Check out the photo below: This first "poster" is another example of how Hemsworth and Waititi continue to have fun during their second collaboration. It is clear that the two of them are loving working together in the MCU again. Not only is Waititi directing Hemsworth and having fun in that regard, but he is also reprising his role as Korg in Thor: Love and Thunder. This should put Hemsworth and Waititi on set filming scenes together once more, and we can only imagine the type of shenanigans that take place when they become screen partners. As for when Thor: Love and Thunder's marketing will actually begin, fans should be prepared to wait a while longer. The movie isn't even done filming at the moment. There are also five MCU movies that will be released prior to Thor 4's theatrical release. Marvel Studios' marketing focus will be on those movies, plus all of the MCU Disney+ shows, for the time being. Instead, the marketing campaign for Thor: Love and Thunder will likely begin by the end of 2021, given its May 2022 release date. Perhaps the first trailer will be released ahead of Eternals' release in November
  8. Director James Gunn reveals that he receives daily threats online due to confirmation that an unspecified number of characters will die in the upcoming film, The Suicide Squad. A standalone sequel to David Ayer’s Suicide Squad, the film centers on the titular group of eccentric and dangerous criminals as they attempt to fulfill a series of life-threatening tasks for government director, Amanda Waller. A few familiar figures have returned from the prior installment, including Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman), and Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney). However, the updated ensemble cast promises to introduce other iconic characters from the comic books, such as Peacemaker (John Cena), Savant (Michael Rooker), King Shark (Sylvester Stallone), and Bloodsport (Idris Elba). Although it is currently unknown who, exactly, will die during the bloody mission in Corto Maltese, theories have abounded online. RELATED:The Suicide Squad Could Be DC's First Film To Kill Every Hero On Twitter, Gunn shared one of the violent threats he received on social media regarding the possible deaths of characters in the film. When a commenter commended the director for continuing to make popular films despite the likelihood of negative online attention, Gunn acknowledged that he tries to keep perspective about the overall situation. He noted that the majority of his messages are positive, while only a few are negative. He ended the thread by writing, “I try not to get bogged down in either & stay focused on what I love to do.” Check it out below: At this time, Gunn’s candid disclosure that many members of the Suicide Squad will not make it to the end has certainly fanned the flames of anticipation for its premiere. Despite the daily threats he receives, Gunn remains active on Twitter, commenting cryptically on the film’s contents. When Screen Rant posted an article theorizing that seven villains would die, he tweeted, “This is overly optimistic to say the least.” When it comes to press for The Suicide Squad, Gunn’s response certainly ensures a plot heavy with carnage, which is par for the course in light of the wild antics of the villainous group. Harley Quinn’s survival is one that has been hotly debated online, with many commenters arguing both for and against the likelihood of her demise. At the end of the day, this is a conversation that will only be resolved in the summer. Even then, who lives and who dies will likely spur its own hotbed of conflicts in the realm of social media
  9. A new F9 video highlights the fearless women of the Fast & Furious franchise. Universal's adrenaline-fueled franchise has been male dominant from the very beginning, but Fast & Furious has always made sure to include some strong female characters. Letty Ortiz (Michelle Rodriguez) and Mia Toretto (Jordana Brewster) have been with the series from the beginning and are both returning to action for F9. The continued popularity and expansion of the franchise means that plenty of other women are along for the ride too. The cast of F9 brings back the usual testosterone-heavy crew of Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel), but the cast also features several other new and returning female characters. Ramsey (Nathalie Emmanuel), Cipher (Charlize Theron), and Queenie (Helen Mirren) are all back after appearing in previous franchise installments. F9 also features the debut of new characters played by Anna Sawai and Cardi B. Some of these women have already been featured in previous marketing materials, but now Universal has brought them all together in a single video. RELATED: F9'S Car Magnet Explained: How Possible Is It? Universal Pictures released a new promotional video for F9 titled "Fast & Fearless - The Women of Fast & Furious 9" that puts the women in the spotlight. It includes some brief moments of new footage, the first tease of Cardi B's character, and clips from interviews with Rodriguez, Brewster, Theron, Mirren, Emmanuel, and Cardi B. Check it out below: The emphasis on the female power in F9 comes after some of the franchise's female stars criticized the series' use of its women characters. Michelle Rodriguez was the most vocal of the group and even suggested she wouldn't return if things didn't change. Since she is back for F9 and the movie features more prominent female characters than past entries, it appears that those differences were resolved. Letty and Mia's team-up could be one of the positive outcomes of this, as the characters haven't shared a single scene alone before F9. This F9 video and the movie itself won't be the last time the Fast & Furious franchise highlights its female characters. Universal has been developing a female-centric Fast & Furious spinoff movie for the last few years. Diesel previously announced that Nicole Perlman, Lindsey Beer, and Geneva Robertson-Dworet are involved with the movie, but there haven't been any additional updates on it since then. Many fans want to see the spinoff utilize some of the F9 female stars, introduce new characters, and bring back prior stars like Gal Gadot and Eva Mendes. Hopefully, there is set up for the Fast & Furious female spinoff in the upcoming blockbuster

  11. Chris Rock, the star of the new movie Spiral, gives a monologue about Forrest Gump in the movie that was inspired by the 1992 film Reservoir Dogs. Rock plays an undercover detective Ezekiel “Zeke” Banks in the ninth installment of the Saw film franchise series, starring alongside Max Minghella, Marisol Nichols, and Samuel L. Jackson, about an investigation into deaths that replicate those of the deceased Jigsaw Killer. The horror film is a first for Rock, who has spent a long career in stand-up comedy, appearing as a main cast member of Saturday Night Live, going on to later star in numerous comedy films like Head of State, I Think I Love My Wife, and The Grown Ups movies. START NOW Throughout his career Rock has continued to lend his comedy talents on the screen, voicing the character of Marty the zebra on the Madagascar film series and hosting the Academy Awards twice. But Rock over the years has expanded his horizon, appearing on Broadway in the dramatic play The Motherf**ker with the Hat by Stephen Adly Guirgis and his recent starring role in Fargo season 4. Regardless of the genre or the medium, Rock still provides comedic moments and ideas with his projects he is involved in. RELATED: Spiral Cast & Character Guide Per IndieWire, Rock was inspired by Quentin Tarantino's first feature film, Reservoir Dogs, to help create a humorous monologue in Spiral about Banks mentioning Forrest Gump from the film title of the same name. The line comes in the character's opening scene where Banks talks about Forrest's childhood friend and love interest, Jenny, being an antagonist in the movie and not sleeping with Forrest until she is diagnosed with a terminal illness. In an interview, the director of Spiral, Darren Lynn Bouseman, reveals that Rock came up with the idea from the opening diner scene of Reservoir Dogs, where a group of gangsters argue about the meaning of Madonna's hit song "Like A Virgin". Bouseman went on to state: “Originally the script has Chris’ [sic] introduction very different. He was introduced busting a weed dispensary. He came to me maybe five days before shooting and said, ‘I gotta do better, it’s the introduction of my character.’ Chris is a big fan of ‘Reservoir Dogs’. This was like his homage. He came to me the next day after we talked about the opening, handed me his pages, and said, ‘It should be something like this.’ What’s great about Chris is that he’s very opinionated and will make off-handed comments about movie characters that make you go, ‘Fuck, he’s right,’ Jenny is a villain!” The opening scene of Reservoir Dogs is not only one of the movie's best, but it is also one of the most memorable scenes due to its introduction to the eight gangsters discussing a casual topic, painting them as regular people before the violent and tragic events of the movie. It is a great way to present characters' thoughts and mindsets, which is what Rock was trying to do with Banks in Spiral. The comment about Jenny from Forrest Gump does offer a different perspective on the character than how the movie presents her, but the scene more importantly offers insight into Banks' thought-process. The inspirational idea shows the importance of collaboration on a film project, with people offering different ideas to make it the best it can be. By helping to craft his character's introduction, Rock has found yet another way leave his mark on the successful horror franchise. Time will tell if Spiral is regarded as one of the franchise's better installments, but in casting Rock, the filmmakers got talented collaborator in addition to performer.
  12. Cheerleader franchise, Bring it On, is getting a slasher horror movie spinoff on SyFy. The 2000 cheerleading film, Bring it On, starred Kirsten Dunst, Gabrielle Union, Eliza Dushku and Jesse Bradford. The teen movie was a hit upon its release, grossing over $90 million at the box office, and went on to spawn five direct-to-video sequels and a Broadway musical. Each sequel contained a new cast and storyline, with stars like Hayden Panettiere and Ashley Benson in the leads. The first Bring it On followed two rival high school cheer teams as they prepare for a national cheer competition. Cheer drama ensues when Rancho Carne High School Toro's new captain, Torrance Shipman (Dunst), finds out that their former captain stole all of their routines from the East Compton Clovers, headed by Isis (Union). The film is beloved for being ahead of its time and featuring fun and impressive cheer routines. Most of the films that followed in the franchise followed the formula of rival cheer teams preparing for a competition, though the original 2000 film still remains the most successful of all the movies. Now the seventh film in the franchise is coming, and it's going to look a lot different than the previous movies. The official synopsis reads, "Held down by restrictive rules, an embattled cheerleading squad seeks the freedom of a creepy, closed school gym to practice for regionals, but when members of the squad start to disappear, the cheerleaders must unmask their assailant to save themselves." Bring it On: Halloween is produced by Universal 1440 Entertainment and will be released on non-theatrical platforms next year. While this is the latest installment in the franchise, Union confirmed last year that a Bring it On sequel will happen with the original cast. Dunst and Union also participated in a virtual Bring it On reunion, along with writer Jessica Bendinger and director Peyton Reed, where they spoke about the film's impact 20 years later and what the sequel would look like whenever it comes out. While not much more is known yet about Bring it On: Halloween, such as cast details or an exact release date, it's clearly taking a much different turn than its successors. It's also the first film in the franchise that will not be a comedy, instead more in the teen-slasher genre. It will be interesting to see how this movie will look, but it seems like it could work as there have been past cheer horror movies like 1988's Cheerleader Camp and 2001's All Cheerleaders Die. It's certainly a new and creative take on the franchise.

He said, "being on a Bond film is just hard." As with most globe-trotting spy thrillers, it can be an arduous undertaking, or as Bautista put it, "a long and slow process." However, Bautista just landed a role in Rian Johnson's in-development Knives Out sequel, which promoted an enthusiastic response when it came to working with Craig again. Bautista said: "Yes, I am excited to be working with Daniel again. And I’m excited that it will be in a much, much less stressful environment because being on a Bond film is just hard. It’s just stressful. It’s just long days. Logistically, it’s a nightmare. You’re just moving from country to country to country. It’s just a long and slow process. I think Spectre shot for almost a year. My role wasn’t extensive, but I was on the film for eight months. So it’s just a long, long process." With an ever-expanding acting resume that includes the Guardians of the Galaxy films, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and Blade Runner 2049, Bautista is no stranger to massive film productions that span months. If that weren't enough, Bautista spent eight years on the road with the WWE as a professional wrestler. The WWE travels around the world with events in new cities every week and the added demand of being in top physical condition throughout the duration. With a background like that, his comments about the shoot of Spectre carry weight. As Bautista continues in his career, he's sure to take on more challenging shoots. He even spoke recently about personally campaigning for the role of Bane in a Batman film, and he wouldn't be a bad choice for the part. However, he may be showing some fatigue with large productions as he's also made comments recently about stepping away from the role of Drax in the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Guardians of the Galaxy 3. Whatever roles he decides to tackle next, he's built up a loyal fan base that will be eager to check it out. His next project, Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead, is slated to hit Netflix on May 21st.
  14. Tomb Raider 2's first draft reveals a potential title for the sequel. Iconic action heroine Lara Croft debuted in the first Tomb Raider video game way back in 1996. Croft then became a movie character played by Angelina Jolie in a pair of action-packed films, the first coming in 2001. But of course Tomb Raider has undergone quite a significant evolution over the years since it began life as a PlayStation video game and then a very of-its-time action film. Today’s visually stunning entries in the long-running gaming franchise indeed barely resemble the crude early editions in the series. And ever since 2018’s Tomb Raider reboot, the character of Croft belongs not to Jolie but Alicia Vikander. Despite the 2018 film’s decent worldwide box office take of $274 million, MGM seems in no hurry to make a sequel. However, things are slowly going forward on Tomb Raider 2 as in January it was announced that Lovecraft Country creator Misha Green had been hired to write and direct. Continue Scrolling To Keep ReadingClick the button below to start this article in quick view. START NOW RELATED: Why Tomb Raider Is Better As An Animated TV Series Than A Movie Several months after Green tweeted her own confirmation of the news that she’s taking on the task of making Tomb Raider 2, the writer-director again got on social media to tease the project. In the process, Green may have revealed the new movie’s title, though she makes it clear that nothing is decided yet. According to the tweet, the now-finished first draft of Green’s script is entitled Tomb Raider: Obsidian. See the posting in the space below: “Obsidian” may at first glance just seem like a cool-sounding word to put in the title of a movie, but the volcanic glass does have some significance to the Tomb Raider series. Firstly, obsidian blades are an obstacle Lara Croft frequently encounters in the tombs she is raiding. Also, “obsidians” are the collectibles Croft must find in a section of the puzzle-based game Lara Croft GO. Lastly, there’s an obsidian blade that’s an important item in the game Shadow of the Tomb Raider (a game Green herself has professed to be a fan of). It remains to be seen if the presence of the word “obsidian” indicates some direct connection between Green’s script and something from the games. If the word is being used in the title, it’s likely that it does have some significance, even if it doesn’t refer directly to anything gamers would immediately know. For instance, it could be the name of some treasure Lara Croft is trying to find in the story. Or it could be the name of some secret organization she finds herself up again. Or the name of a character or a place. The important takeaway from Green’s tweet of course is that she’s finished the first draft, meaning things are moving along in the process. But Green herself cautions that this process is still a long way from over, meaning fans have a lengthy wait ahead of them to find out what she has in store with Tomb Raider 2.
  15. In Screen Rant’s latest Pitch Meeting video, Ryan George takes aims at 2009’s Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Following on from the success of 2007’s live-action Transformers, winner of the Best Movie in the 2008 MTV Movie Awards as well the recipient of multiple accolades for its ground-breaking visual effects, work had begun on the planned sequel even before the first film had hit cinemas. The first sequel in a long-running franchise helmed by Michael Bay, Revenge of the Fallen would eventually become both the last Transformers film to star Megan Fox as well as the last one to be distributed by Dreamworks Pictures. In the sequel, the original film’s Sam Witwicky, played by Shia LeBeouf, is once again caught up in the ongoing conflict between the Autobots and Decepticons, opposing forces of sentient, shape-shifting robots based on the popular line of Habro toys from the 1980s. While production on the film was threatened by delays due to the 2007-2008 writer’s strikes, Michael Bay was able to forge on and meet the film’s intended release window by relying on early script treatments which were handed in just hours before the official strike action began. This lack of a more developed screenplay would eventually be hard to ignore, however, as despite pulling in over $830 million at the worldwide box office, the film came under critical fire for its lack of coherent plot and multiple contradictions to the events covered in the original film. RELATED: What Went Wrong With The Transformers Movies Those complaints and shortcomings provide Screen Rant’s Ryan George with plenty of fodder for his latest Pitch Meeting episode. Offering his version of what happened in those early production meetings, Ryan George hilariously goes for the jugular by narrowing in on the film’s confusing plot and Michael Bay’s reliance on explosions over cohesive storytelling. Check it out below: When looking back at Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, and the issues it faced during production, it is easy to see how a burgeoning franchise so easily flipped from producing an MTV Movie of the Year winning film, to what eventually won the dubious triple honor of Worst Picture, Worst Screenplay and Worst Director at the 2009 Golden Raspberry Awards. Unfortunately, this would not be the only misstep in the big-budget action franchise, and Bay would go on to make three more Transformers sequels which also suffered a range of poor critical reactions, with Transformers: Age of Extinction and Transformers: The Last Knight both scoring lower on Rotten Tomatoes than Revenge of the Fallen’s already dismal 20% rating. It was not until Paramount undertook a soft franchise reboot with 2018’s Bumblebee, directed by Travis Knight, that public confidence in the potential of the franchise began to take hold, and it still ranks as the highest-scoring film in the entire Transformers series. Moving forward, fans can only hope that the next steps in the franchise will more closely follow Knight’s prequel/spin-off. Recent reports have indicated that plans are already well underway for a seventh Transformers film to be helmed by emerging director Steven Caple Jr, and starring Anthony Ramos (Hamilton) and Dominique Fishback (Judas and the Black Messiah). In the meantime, perhaps it might be worthwhile for fans to go right back for a rewatch of the original, Movie of the Year award-winning film.
  16. Thor's mighty hammer Mjolnir has been lifted by several MCU characters to date, but far more characters have tried and failed to wield the hammer. In each case, the characters had established reasons for being classed as unworthy, including the God of Thunder himself, notoriously. Very few of those characters openly confronted the reasons for that unworthiness. Introduced in Thor, Mjolnir remains one of the most powerful artifacts in the MCU, despite its destruction by Hela in Thor: Ragnarok. Such is its iconic appeal that the hammer will play a major part in Thor: Love & Thunder, transforming Jane Foster into the Mighty Thor. It was also, infamously at the heart of one of the single most fan-pleasing moments in all of Marvel movie history, when Captain America caught it in the climactic battle against Thanos in Endgame. In that instance, the hammer's in-built worthiness gauge acted like an amplifier for the audience's goodwill for Captain America, as it had for Thor when he regained his hero status in Phase One. Continue Scrolling To Keep ReadingClick the button below to start this article in quick view. START NOW RELATED: Every MCU Problem Caused By Reversing Thanos' Infinity War Snap But Mjolnir's power works best because it is sparsely used. Vision's surprising use of it was huge at the time because it was so unexpected and Cap's command of it worked so well because it had already been set up in Age of Ultron. And without all of the other heroes who failed to lift the hammer, neither of them would have had that sort of impact. Here's every MCU character who tried to lift Mjolnir and failed, and why they weren't deemed worthy... Tony Stark Like Thor's Phase One arc, Tony Stark's entire MCU story saw the founding Avenger invested mostly in the idea of worthiness. Weighed down by the sins of his father (and of Stark Industries as a whole), Tony was - as Thanos so cleverly accused - "cursed by knowledge", not only of an apocalyptic future, but of his own unworthy past. It took his sacrifices in Endgame (not only of his life but of his family peace) for him to become truly worthy. Back in Age of Ultron, Stark was yet to learn the lesson of over-reaching that made his ego create Ultron in the first place and most of his self-destructive, arrogant and sometimes downright unlikeable character traits were still very much on show. He was arguably the least worthy of all of those who attempted to lift the hammer at that point. Steve Rogers Though there is some debate over Captain America's Age of Ultron moment with Mjolnir, the retrofit logic that he was simply "not trying" to save Thor's embarrassment never made sense. Steve wasn't against impressive feats (and his training included the flagpole gag that saw him break the rules to win a challenge, so he wasn't a total paragon of virtue). More importantly, Steve had also proved with Tony Stark that he wasn't above taking his fellow Avengers down a notch in the name of encouraging humility. More logical is the idea that Steve only became worthy after Age of Ultron before his Endgame hammer catch. Steve was far from flawless, morally speaking, and his refusal to tell Tony about the death of his parents kept him from being truly worthy. Obviously, that was in the name of protecting Bucky - not a crime in itself - so that nuance could explain why Mjolnir shifted slightly. Hawkeye Hawkeye's unworthiness story is more complex than the two keystone Avengers, partly because he was still quite undeveloped as a character by this point in Age of Ultron. Much of what started Clint Barton's MCU redemption came later in the movie after the Avengers are driven into hiding and his secret family was revealed before he became the surrogate battlefield father of the Twins. It is perhaps his Endgame arc that best explains why he was considered unworthy in Age of Ultron, because his time as a murderous vigilante speaks to the anger inside him. Or at the very least, the capacity he has to twist his emotions into something so dark. On top of that, as an assassin, Hawkeye's modus operandi probably wouldn't sit with the Asgardian warrior virtues Mjolnir would be "programmed" to recognize as heroism. Regardless of his prowess, there's something inherently murky about clandestine murder missions. RELATED: Every Upcoming Marvel Studios Disney+ TV Show James Rhodes While Rhodey is initially presented as the antithesis of Tony Stark when he's flirting dangerously with volatility in Iron Man 2, he's actually a lot more like a clone of his best friend. Both are military men, even if Rhodey is a front-line veteran, and both are cocksure, verging on outright arrogance. In fact, Rhodey is boastful and somewhat buffoonish (particularly in Age of Ultron) and there's very much the - somewhat unfair - suggestion that he's only in the hero business for the fame. More crucially, Rhodey is also not established as a leader or even really as an individual: right up to the point that he defies General Ross in Infinity War, he's a military man primarily and he simply doesn't have the same instincts as the other heroes for autonomy. He even only tries to lift Mjolnir in conjunction with Tony, as if to emphasize that. Bruce Banner Banner is the final Avengers member to try his band at lifting Mjolnir, mostly using it as an opportunity for a gag about transforming into his angry green alter-ego. That said, he's still clearly unable to lift the hammer, which comes down to the conflict within Banner that stops him from realizing that the Hulk is very much part of him rather than an infection. Banner may believe himself to be more virtuous than Hulk and his pre-Avengers isolation offering medical support to families in poverty is very worthy, but he's too torn by conflict and invested in the selfish agenda to heal himself, understandably. He's also a reluctant hero, even after stepping up in the Battle of New York, which doesn't fit with the Asgardian warrior spirit. Pietro Maximoff Quicksilver's Mjolnir moment is, fittingly, a fleeting affair as he opportunistically attempts to stop the hammer midflight during the Twins' initial battle against the Avengers in Age of Ultron. Inevitably, he's quickly turned into a passenger, though his touch does cause Mjolnir to slightly deviate off-course for a moment, which perhaps hints at Pietro's misguided but not evil morality. At this stage, the speedster is aligned with Ultron, whose plan amounts to global destruction, so there's little explanation needed for his unworthiness. Interestingly, his sacrifice to save Hawkeye and the child at the end of the movie probably would have made him worthy by the MCU's tenuous rules. Hulk Long before the Avengers gathered for a macho flexing competition in Age of Ultron, Hulk was the first of the MCU's other heroes to try and lift Mjolnir. He did so not out of some misplaced sense of bravado, but out of rage in the heat of battle with Thor. Even Hulk's enormous strength couldn't shift it, naturally, but he was unable to process the issue and continued to try long after anyone else would have. Hulk's unworthiness comes down to the fact that he's too guided by emotions and too volatile to be worthy of the hammer, not least because of the damage he'd be able to do with the added powers and his diminished sense of responsibility. He's also the most selfish of the Avengers, given his battle for existence, and worthiness seems to be tied to altruism. RELATED: Every MCU Character Who Could Be A Nexus Being Thor (When Banished) Thor himself has even been unable to lift Mjolnir in the MCU at one point after Odin punished him for his arrogance and for threatening the peace the Allfather had carefully crafted in the Nine Realms. In hindsight, it appears Odin was trying to stop Thor from following the same path as Hela, and his decision to banish his son was a means for him to learn some humility. That humility and his impulse to sacrifice himself when the Destroyer attacked Earth was what made him worthy again, confirming that was what Odin saw as his failures up to that point. He had been reckless and arrogant and had endangered his subjects - across every Realm - as well as threatening the work Odin had done to reverse the tyranny of his own rule with Hela, and that all stood in defiance of the virtues Odin wanted to encourage in his son. Loki During the same period of Thor's unworthiness with Mjolnir sent to Earth, Loki followed the hammer and curiously tried his own hand at lifting it. Almost casual at first, the God of Mischief showed a flash of his true ambitions as years of what he saw as treatment as an inferior next to his brother curled his mouth into a snarl momentarily. And almost as quickly, he brushes the failure off, as if it doesn't matter to him, despite the audience knowing how much it means. Loki would never be worthy at this point: he was hateful towards his brother, sought vengeance, and had dark ambitions to oust his brother. Though a prodigious warrior - a fact often overlooked in the MCU - Loki was also a villain (no matter what his complex moral compass might later suggest) and that immediately disqualifies him from true MCU worthiness.
  17. Don Cheadle, one of the stars of Space Jam: A New Legacy, dropped some surprising news when he let slip that Michael Jordan will appear in the film, but in an unexpected way. Jordan starred in the original Space Jam film that hit theaters in 1996, where it went on to earn over $230 million worldwide. Space Jam was also hugely successful in the merchandising realm, with an estimated revenue of over $6 billion. In the film, Jordan played himself, and he was tasked with helping the Looney Tunes defeat aliens known as Monstars, who were intent on forcing the Tunes to work at their theme park. In Space Jam: A New Legacy, LeBron James will be playing himself, and just like Jordan before him, he gets the call to action from the Looney Tunes. James will share the screen with beloved characters like Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and the Tasmanian Devil, and he'll be joined by Cheadle, Sonequa Martin-Green, and Zendaya as Lola Bunny. The film is directed by Malcolm D. Lee, and it will release simultaneously in theaters and streaming on HBO Max on July 16. RELATED: Space Jam 2: How Every Looney Tunes Character Compares To The Original In a recent interview with Access Hollywood, Cheadle was asked if Jordan will appear in the new film. Cheadle answered, "Michael Jordan is in the movie...but not in the way you'd expect it." While that news is sure to excite many fans, Cheadle was quick to note that it won't be a normal cameo. He didn't elaborate any further, but he got fans' minds racing with just a few words. Space Jam: A New Legacy is a long-awaited sequel for most fans as it comes 25 years after the original. Fans will be curious as to how Jordan pops up in the new film and how substantial the moment will be, given that Jordan was never interested in doing a sequel. It's possible that the moment will be as simple as a photo in the background, which has happened in other long-delayed sequels. The treatment of Will Smith in Independence Day: Resurgence is a glaring example of this type of cameo. However, most fans are probably hoping for something a bit more grandiose for a legend of Jordan's caliber. If Jordan were up for it, having him show up to help the Tune Squad for a single moment, much like Bill Murray did in the original film, could be a lot of fun. Given that James is animated at certain points in the trailer for the new film, the unexpected way Cheadle mentioned could also allude to Jordan appearing as an animated character. As for how Jordan will show up in the film, though, is anyone's guess. With the film releasing in theaters and streaming the same day, it may not see the same level of success at the box office as the first film. However, rabid fans who have been waiting years are still likely to turn up to theaters in their favorite Tune Squad jersey, and even a fleeting glimpse of Jordan could bring a smile to millions. With the vast array of Looney Tunes in the film and the Space Jam title alone, the movie is poised for success. When Space Jam: A New Legacy drops on July 16th, fans will finally get to see just what Cheadle meant when Jordan pops up on the screen.
  18. The director of the A24 film, The Lighthouse, is making a new movie called The Northman, which just got its 2022 release date. The Lighthouse was a critical darling when it debuted in 2019 and was commended for its bold storytelling and strong cinematography. The film starred Robert Pattinson and Willen Dafoe, who both gave award-worthy performances as their characters struggled to battle loneliness at sea. The director, Robert Eggers, was even nominated for Best Director at the Independent Spirit Awards. While not commercially successful, The Lighthouse was well-liked by many film enthusiasts. Now, Eggers is moving on to a new movie called The Northman, which has now been given a 2022 release date. Focus Features has just announced that The Northman will head to theaters on Friday, April 8, 2022. The film is described as, "an epic revenge thriller that explores how far a Viking prince will go to seek justice for his murdered father." Eggers will also co-write the screenplay along with Icelandic poet and novelist, Sjón. The Producers are Lars Knudsen, Mark Huffam, and New Regency. The Northman will be a co-production between New Regency and Focus Features, who also produced The Lighthouse. RELATED: The Lighthouse Ending And Real Meaning Explained The movie has a huge cast full of talented actors. Alexander Skarsgard, Nicole Kidman, Björk, Ethan Hawke, Willem Dafoe, and Anya Taylor-Joy are all set to be in the film. Given Eggers' track record for pulling great performances out of his actors, it is hard to see how he won't do the same with this new cast. With this amount of award-winning talent, The Northman could become an awards contender for next year's Oscar season.
  19. Dave Bautista says it's "terrifying" to be cast in Rian Johnson's Knives Out 2. Fans of the original Knives Out remember the film for its strong characters, smart writing, and the stylistic direction Johnson took to tell the story. Bautista joins Daniel Craig, who portrayed Detective Benoit Blanc, for the film's sequel, which is set to start filming in Greece this June. Ever since it was announced that Netflix secured a deal for two Knives Out sequels, Knives Out 2 has made some major casting updates within the last few weeks. Bautista was able to shine as the character and steal the spotlight with his strong comedic timing in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Avengers: Infinity War. Currently, Bautista is showing his versatility as a performer as he is set to appear in Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead and Denis Villeneuve's Dune in prominent roles. RELATED:James Gunn Responds To Dave Bautista Stepping Away As Drax After GOTG Vol 3 Even with the rising star power behind Bautista, he claims in an interview with Slashfilm.com, that being cast in Knives Out 2 is "terrifying." Bautista expressed how nervous he is about joining the cast and talked about the pressure that comes along with taking on a role in such a popular film loaded with big stars. Read what Bautista said below: It feels terrifying. I’m nervous about it. I’m really nervous. It’s one of those things where now the pressure’s on, because people are expecting things from you. I want to deliver. I take pride in that. I’m a game player. I want to throw a touchdown pass. I know the script is brilliant, I know the director is brilliant, and I know everybody that they’re going to cast – obviously Daniel [Craig] is there, he’s brilliant, and I believe Ed Norton’s been cast as well. So the names are going to get bigger and better, and for me, I can’t get it out of my head that – there’s always going to be a part of me that feels like I’m new to this and I’m still learning, and I want to be able to hold my own. Bautista is hoping for perfection with his performance. As details of the film continue to surface, the depth of his character is yet to be known. Yet if Johnson's writing is as good as Bautista claims and he has faith in the production, there is no doubt he can meet the standard he has set for himself. From his prior performances, Bautista has shown no fear in pushing himself down new paths or attempting interesting characters. However, if Knives Out 2 hopes to live up to the standard the first film set, a lot is to be expected from every party involved. Bautista is very aware of these looming expectations and hopes that he can give the fans what they want, in addition to giving the strong performance the film needs. This mindset can be a double edged sword, as it gives the actor drive and determination while it can also lead to self doubt and second guessing each choice made. Bautista challenges himself to be better with every role, which should give the film whatever it needs to meet everyone's expectations, including his own.
  20. It seems Master Yoda is about to go missing in Star Wars: The High Republic. The Skywalker saga has come to an end, and Star Wars is expanding across other mediums. One of the most intriguing initiatives is Star Wars: The High Republic, a transmedia narrative primarily told by Lucasfilm Publishing, weaving a single story through books and comics. The so-called "High Republic Era" peaked some 200 years before the events of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, a time when the Jedi Order were at their greatest, and the Republic was pressing on to explore the Outer Rim of the galaxy. While the Sith were still active, they were still building power, and the Jedi found themselves facing other threats, ranging from a group of space pirates called the Nihil to ferocious dark side creatures known as the Drengir. As told in IDW's Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures comic, Master Yoda was on the Outer Rim, training Padawans and leading the charge against the Nihil. They've released an exclusive excerpt from Daniel José Older's upcoming middle-grade novel, Race to Crashpoint Tower, which features all the characters from IDW's comic book range. Disturbingly, it seems Master Yoda has gone missing as a result of his investigations into the Nihil - abandoning his students, leaving his fellow Jedi Masters bewildered at his disappearance. It's entirely possible Master Yoda has followed the promptings of the Force, and has gone on a mission he hasn't told anyone about; indeed, perhaps IDW's Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures will chronicle that mission, allowing the rest of its cast to jump into Race to Crashpoint Tower. But it's also possible Yoda has been captured by the Nihil. The Nihil know how to cut Jedi off from the Force, by surrounding them with pain and suffering, and they've already successfully captured one skilled and experienced Jedi Master. Such a development would certainly serve to emphasize just how dangerous the Nihil really are, justifying their role as one of the primary villains of the High Republic Era. Meanwhile, it's exciting to see Star Wars: The High Republic really is a true transmedia story - one in which characters and concepts transition straight from one medium to another. Star Wars was a forerunner in transmedia, expanding from the big screen in a tie-in book published in 1978, but traditionally these have been side-stories that stand separately. This approach is much more carefully structured, and as a result, it has a lot more potential. It will be fascinating to see how Star Wars: The High Republic continues to develop.
  21. Edgar Wright's upcoming documentary, The Sparks Brothers, has received a trailer. Announced by Wright in 2018, The Sparks Brothers delves into the life and legend of cult American pop-rock duo, Sparks. As referenced by the title, Sparks is comprised of brother-bandmates, Ron and Russel Mael, who have released twenty-five albums together since 1971. Wright's first film since 2017's Baby Driver, The Sparks Brothers is also the director's first documentary feature. Now, Focus Features has released the trailer for The Sparks Brothers. The kinetic teaser combines footage of Sparks' legendary live shows, vibrant animated sequences, and a host of other media to dizzying effect. Interviews with the Mael brothers are peppered throughout, as well as sit-downs with some of the many musicians that Sparks have influenced, including Beck, Duran Duran, and the Go-Go's Jane Wiedlin. Check out the full trailer below: RELATED: Why Edgar Wright Didn't Direct Ant-Man After premiering at Sundance in January, The Sparks Brothers boasts an impressive 100% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 43 reviews, suggesting Wright might have a promising future as a musical documentarian. But while the film is Wright's first foray into documentary filmmaking, it's far from his first project to feature music at its core. The protagonists Baby Driver and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World both find meaning in music, and all three films of Wright's Cornetto trilogy - Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and The World's End - are renowned for their expansive classic rock and Britpop-focused soundtracks. Though none of those entries into Wright's oeuvre feature music from Sparks, The Sparks Brothers should more than make up for those omissions when it arrives in theaters on June 18.
  22. Zack Snyder has revealed what would have happened to John Stewart’s Green Lantern in his cancelled Justice League sequels. The character was meant to appear in the Snyder Cut, and a scene was even shot with Wayne T. Carr playing the role. However, Warner Bros. forced Snyder to keep Stewart out of the film to save the character for potential future projects, and he was replaced in the scene by the Martian Manhunter. When Snyder was first brought on to helm the DCEU, he intended to make a five-film story arc centering on Superman. The first three movies were Man of Steel, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Justice League. The plan was to also make a Justice League 2 and Justice League 3, which would have gone in-depth with the Knightmare timeline where Darkseid conquers Earth, with DC’s heroes eventually undoing that apocalypse and defeating him. However, that plan was scrapped after the original Justice league’s theatrical release, and the success of the Snyder Cut has failed to rejuvenate any interest from Warner Bros. START NOW RELATED: Green Lantern: Why HBO Max Is Right To Avoid Using Hal Jordan And John Stewart Speaking recently with Uproxx, Snyder discussed what would have happened to John Stewart in Justice League 2 and Justice League 3. He revealed that Stewart would have had a major role in the now-cancelled sequels. Read Snyder's full quote below: So basically what was going to happen is he had two roles. One, we would have seen him in the post-apocalyptic world. He was kind of like their scout and kind of like their, you know, ‘join the team.’ And then in the final battle against Darkseid, he would have gotten the Green Lantern Corps and organized them to fight against Darkseid. The Knightmare struggle and the final battle against Darkseid would have been two of the franchise’s biggest moments, had they been made, so it’s interesting to hear how central to both Green Lantern would have been. Of course, for fans of the comics or the Justice League cartoons, it’s no shock that John Stewart would have been at the root of the action. Green Lantern is one of the most popular DC heroes ever, and many consider him a more core member of the Justice League than Aquaman or Cyborg. With that in mind, it would have made perfect sense for him to effectively become part of the team in the Justice League sequels. Sadly, it looks like that story will never be told. A Green Lantern reboot movie rumored to feature John Stewart has been reportedly in the works for years, but the lack of officially information suggests it may be very far off. In the meantime, a new Green Lantern show is in development for HBO Max, which will feature several iterations of the character, including Guy Gardner and Alan Scott.
  23. Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) tells the Jedi Council to “f-ck off” in a hilarious Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith edit. The upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series, which is currently in production, will take place ten years after the events of Episode III. It will likely explore “Ben” Kenobi’s time on Tatooine, protecting Luke Skywalker from the influence of the Galactic Empire. In his isolation, Obi-Wan will undoubtedly reflect upon his failure as a mentor to Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) and a member of the Jedi Council. The Jedi Order was essentially at the height of its power during the Star Wars prequels. Headquartered on Coruscant, the Jedi Council, led mainly by Yoda and Mace Windu, governed the order before the fall of the Republic. The Galactic Empire’s rise is arguably a result of the council’s prejudices. In its arrogance, the order involved itself in politics and even helped Chancellor Palpatine, a.k.a., Darth Sidious, gain power as his ignorant police force. On top of that, their handling of the “Chosen One” exacerbated the birth of Darth Vader. Obi-Wan, while on the council, understands that a Jedi shouldn’t interfere in areas that are not their expertise. If he could go back, he might have some choice words for his fellow Jedi. RELATED:Star Wars: Why The Jedi Council Never Liked Anakin YouTuber Janobot recently posted a video of Obi-Wan interrupting a Jedi Council meeting from Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. The edited scene sees Anakin, who is a Jedi Master but not on the council, inform his superiors of a recent move by Palpatine. Then, McGregor as the titular character from Netflix's Halston, tells everyone else in the room to “f-ck off.” Check out the video below: Though the prequel trilogy is one of the most divisive parts of Star Wars canon, McGregor’s performance as Obi-Wan is beloved. That said, seeing McGregor stick it to the council is cathartic for longtime fans of the franchise. Much of what fans didn’t like about the prequels revolved around its lackluster political intrigue—which begins and ends with mistakes made by the council. Aside from Anakin, and perhaps the audience, the only person who ever went against the council was Qui-Gon Jinn, who passed on an opportunity to sit on the council and never seemed to have any qualms about bending the rules. The biggest criticism anyone can direct towards Obi-Wan is his lack of agency; he wasn’t a maverick like his master and elects to grow old and do nothing on Tatooine before Star Wars: A New Hope. Thankfully, like the prequels deconstructing the Jedi Order’s mythical status established by the original trilogy, Disney+’s Obi-Wan Kenobi series should contextualize Obi-Wan’s time watching over Luke. With Christensen set to reprise his role as Anakin/Darth Vader (flashbacks to the pair’s experiences during The Clone Wars?), fans might even get to see more of the Jedi Council. However, it’s safe to assume McGregor won’t be telling them to “f-ck off.”
  24. Zack Snyder is not being shy about the "torture" Warner Bros put him through during the making of the Snyder Cut of Justice League. Fans and critics have offered praise to Snyder's cut of the film, with many hopeful to one day see more of the director's vision in the DCEU. Whether or not that will ever happen is likely dependent on how long Snyder remembers the treatment he got from the studio this time around. The theatrical cut of Justice League, which was released in 2017, was re-shot and directed by an uncredited Joss Whedon. Following the film's poor reception, many fans, and eventually even cast and crew, joined a growing movement demanding that Warner Bros "Release the Snyder Cut," believing Snyder's original vision would have resulted in a far superior movie. Their collective prayers were answered when Warner Bros. announced work on the project would begin in 2020, and again when HBO Max officially released Zack Snyder's Justice League on March 18, 2021. START NOW RELATED: Justice League: When People Turned Off The Snyder Cut Snyder spoke about his relationship with Warner Bros. during the Justice League Snyder Cut experience in an interview with Uproxx. While he does not regret getting the chance to make the Snyder Cut, he says the studio didn't make it easy for him. According to Snyder, "they’re the ones that have been aggressive, not me. I haven’t done anything." He went on to talk about some of what he dealt with, explaining "Every day they’d turn around and do some weird passive-aggressive thing. So, I don’t know. It’s weird." He continued: “It was cool to do the Snyder Cut of Justice League and that was fun and everything. But Warner Bros. still tortured me the whole time for whatever reason, they can’t help it. I don’t know why I’m such a f*cking pain in their ass because I’m not trying to be, honestly.” Furthermore, Snyder stated that what happened with the studio is "not a normal situation. It's a once-in-a-generation bizarro situation!” From the original experience back in 2016-2017, all the way to the Snyder Cut where Warner Bros was still giving him notes and forcing his hand (such as the insistence on removing Green Lantern John Stewart from the movie), it is not hard to see Snyder's point. Luckily for fans, he loved the project and made sure to say he had a "great time making Justice League" and that he was "glad I got to finish it." The Justice League Snyder Cut had a budget upwards of $70 million and likely would not have occurred if not for the worldwide Coronavirus pandemic that shut down productions in 2020. While Warner Bros. execs may have been shrewd enough to see an opportunity with the Snyder Cut to release something new during the pandemic, they likely were not thrilled at the prospect of more or less giving in to public demand and admitting they were wrong to replace Snyder with Whedon in the first place. Frankly, it should not have been that surprising to get a little hostility from the studio, especially as the state of the DCEU has been such a sensitive subject for DC and Warner Bros. for some time now. The main question that is on the minds of fans who loved the new cut most likely centers around whether or not Snyder and Warner Bros. could ever reconcile, and find a way to continue the Snyderverse.
